<div class="image-container float_right"><div class="image">Deadline Hollywood's <keyword id="1858114" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nikki-Finke">Nikki Finke</keyword> gave a candid interview to the WSJ about owner Penske media, "he issue is whether this shared vision is still intact."</div></div>
In 2009, Nikki Finke sold her online entertainment magazine <a href="http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/">Deadline Hollywood Daily</a> - famous for its original scoops - to Mail.com Media Group, an Internet company controlled by <keyword id="1043859" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jay-Penske">Jay Penske</keyword>, for a whopping <a href="http://www.jewishjournal.com/hollywoodjew/item/nikki_finke_sells_deadline_hollywood_for_14_million_20090624">$14 million</a>. 
But when Penske also purchased Finke's competitor, Variety, last year, she wasn't happy.
Despite being owned by the same company, Deadline recently mocked Variety for its "humiliating loss of readership and influence."
Apparently, Finke was peeved that 34-year-old Chairman and CEO, Jay Penske, didn't give her a leading role at Variety, which is a direct competitor and has been around for longer than Deadline.
And now Finke wants out of Penske's <a href="http://www.pmc.com/company/" target="_blank">media empire</a>.
"Jay Penske shared my vision of what Deadline could be, [but] now circumstances have changed with the addition of Variety and the issue is whether this shared vision is still intact," <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323893004579057311417605016.html" target="_blank">Finke tells The Wall Street Journal</a> in a candid new interview. "One of the most noble things Jay Penske could ever do would be to give me back Deadline." 
If Penske doesn't give Finke her site back, the veteran journalist says she will find an investor to help her buy the site back.
And if neither of those things happen, Finke will just start her own site, <a href="http://www.vulture.com/2013/08/report-nikki-finke-might-start-nikkifinkecom.html" target="_blank">the NikkiFinke.com</a> - which, she says, "would fill a different need for the Hollywood community" than Deadline.
Finke tells the WSJ she believes that in order for the publications to coexist as corporate siblings, they can't be direct competitors.
"It is very clear that our specialty is breaking news," Finke said of Deadline. "I would like to see Variety's specialty be analysis and commentary."
And in seemingly further hopes of keeping the peace, Finke tells the WSJ, "I have confidence that no matter what happens, Jay and I can reach an amicable solution to all of this."
A spokesperson for Penske, meanwhile, emailed the WSJ a flat reply: "We are very pleased with the overwhelming success of the Variety business since our acquisition, as well as <keyword id="1752334" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Deadline-com">Deadline.com</keyword>'s continued growth of audience and revenue." 
While Finke's attorneys have proposed that she should be let out of her contract, which runs through 2016, the Penske rep says the company has "every intent to continue ... our contractual relationship with Ms. Finke through the end of her term."

The host of <keyword id="17242" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Fox">Fox</keyword> News’ On The Record took to her blog today to urge <a href="http://www.deadline.com/tag/fox">Fox</a> to hire <a href="http://www.deadline.com/tag/jay-leno">Jay Leno</a> after he leaves <keyword id="5601" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="NBC">NBC</keyword> after next year’s Winter Olympics.
“FOX BROADCAST (not Fox News Channel) should hire <keyword id="101437" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jay-Leno">Jay Leno</keyword> on February 7, 2014 (of course no one is asking me …),” she wrote.
Deadline reported Friday that <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2013/08/lenos-last-tonight-show-to-air-feb-6-staff-paid-until-september/">Leno’s last night as host of The Tonight Show will be February 6</a>.
Van Susteren went on to scold NBC about letting Leno go while he still wins his late-slot time slot, saying the network is “rolling the dice. If I were a shareholder, I would wonder about that one.”
Her endorsement wasn’t exactly vague: “I think Fox Broadcast should sign him up and compete against his old network,” Van Susteren wrote.
Jimmy Fallon will take over the <a href="http://www.deadline.com/tag/the-tonight-show">Tonight Show</a> hosting duties shortly after the Sochi Olympics end in late February.

But veteran scribe Doug Richardson does. He recently was one of the independent judges on a credits arbitration and blogs that “the awful process” made him <a href="http://dougrichardson.com/blog/fight-or-flight/">recall</a> his most memorable tale of woe. Even though he won. Here he explains why so many writers fight hard for credit besides recognition:
Money. The most obvious of motives are the hefty residuals that can be banked after a hit movie and also the potential for later employment by studios who generally prefer to hire writers with successful track records.
But there’s this other, less discussed, carrot-on-a-stick. It’s this little clause found in most screenwriter’s motion picture contracts called the “credit bonus.” Simply put, if the writer gets credit, the writer shall receive a big-assed bonus. Such is usually a last-minute negotiating giveaway to the writer in lieu of taking less dough up front. And it’s looked upon as funny money by industry lawyers because, by the time the movie gets made–if ever–who the hell knows how many writers might’ve worked on it, let alone how many deserved or could receive credit? Smooth, huh? Especially if it acts as catnip for snubbed writers who see the process of WGA credit arbitration as a potential lottery win.

Why Screenwriters Have To Fight So Hard To Get Credited For Their Work

Oh no, not again. It notched less than $8M in box office with 2011′s Part I and 2012′s Part II combined.
But <a href="http://www.deadline.com/tag/atlas-shrugged/" target="_blank">Atlas Shrugged</a> producers John Aglialoro and Harmon Kaslow somehow raised more cash to funnel into the final installment of the critically panned series. 
Part III is aiming for a summer 2014 theatrical release with a script adapted by franchise writers Duncan Scott and Brian O’Toole, from <keyword id="115232" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ayn-Rand">Ayn Rand</keyword>’s novel.
Production and distribution company Atlas Productions LLC made the announcement today accompanied by another <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2011/02/confusing-trailer-atlas-shrugged/" target="_blank">bizarre promo video</a>:

'Atlas Shrugged' Producers Somehow Raised Enough Cash For A Part III

OpenAI's GPTBot and other AI web crawlers are being blocked by even more companies now

Streaming giant <keyword id="128682" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="netflix" source="Orion">Netflix</keyword>'s co-founder, chairman and co-CEO <keyword id="566177" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reed-hastings" source="Orion">Reed Hastings</keyword> has announced a $1 million donation to an organisation providing emergency relief to <keyword id="6355101" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ukraine" source="Orion">Ukraine</keyword>. "$1m donation on the way for emergency relief to Razom," wrote the Netflix executive, "thanks to @evgeny_director. Every dollar helps". "@evgeny_directora is Russian-born Evgeny Afineevsky, who directed the Oscar-nominated documentary Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom for Netflix in 2015." The film documents the unrest in Ukraine in 2013 and 2014 as student demonstrations supporting European integration grew into a violent revolution calling for the resignation of President Viktor F. Yanukovich, an movement that is not unrelated to the Russian invasion and the stiff resistance it now faces. "These people will not be slaves. They will not go back into the former Soviet Union," Afineevsky told Deadline last week, reports deadline.com. "They have a taste of freedom. They became a part of the European society, and they wanted to go a completely different direction (than Moscow)." "That's the direction that they are fighting toward since Maidana... Believing in their freedom, believing in the freedom for the future of their own kids, it just proves that these people will not put their weapons down. They will be fighting until the last drop of blood." The Ukrainian Revolution prompted Russian President <keyword id="43440" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vladimir-putin" source="Orion">Vladimir Putin</keyword> to seize Crimea in 2014 and then to foment revolt in Ukraine's eastern provinces next to the Russian border. Putin declared those provinces part of Russia shortly before he ordered the full-scale invasion of Ukraine last week. The organisation to which the donation is going, Razom for Ukraine, describes itself as "a non-profit supporting Ukrainian people in their pursuit of democracy with dignity, justice, and human rights". Last week, it posted the following tweet about its work in the country: "Razom, together with about 20 orgs, has created a trusted corridor from the US to Ukraine for the delivery of life-saving supplies. The channel connects two warehouses in Poland and Ukraine, from which supplies can then be delivered further". Today, the organisation retweeted <keyword id="78134" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hastings" source="Orion">Hastings</keyword>' announcement with a photo of Afineevsky and a caption that reads, "This is Razom with @evgeny_director what fees like ages ago. But this picture also represents a great friendship that has sustained throughout the years, and until now, when we're so glad to have Evgeny on our side. Thank you." Last month, Hastings and wife Patty Quillin, who is a producer, donated $10 million to scholarship programs at Tougaloo College and Brown University. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>The oil bust is&#xa0;going mainstream.This fall, ABC will air a show titled&#xa0;"<a href="http://abc.go.com/shows/blood-and-oil">Blood and Oil</a>," which follows a young couple that moves to what ABC calls "The Bakken" in North Dakota in search of riches from the oil boom.&#xa0;The Bakken is a real-life shale formation in North Dakota seen by many as the epicenter of the shale-related oil boom seen in the US over the last several years.&#xa0;<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>The show, which we first heard about via Reuters' energy expert John Kemp, comes at an interesting time for the industry, which boomed over the last several years amid the rise of fracking technology and a huge surge in oil prices but is now grappling with oil prices that are down about 60% from a year ago.&#xa0;In an email on Tuesday, Kemp wrote, "How do you know the oil industry is turning from boom to bust? The first episodes of "<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas_(1978_TV_series)">Dallas</a>" were shown in 1978 as oil prices were climbing to their 1980 peak at $100 per barrel in real terms, but most of the series were aired in the 1980s, in time for the spectacular bust of the Texas oil industry."According to a <a href="http://deadline.com/2012/10/producer-tony-krantz-sells-projects-with-ted-talley-philip-seymour-hoffman-fareed-zakaria-twitters-biz-stone-351273/">Deadline.com report from 2012</a>, the show was picked up but never aired. 'Blood & Oil': The oil bust is about to go mainstream

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Merger talks between Hasbro and DreamWorks Animation have <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/merger-talks-between-hasbro-and-dreamworks-are-over-2014-11">broken down</a>, and now DreamWorks shares are getting smashed. 
In early trade on Monday, DreamWorks shares were down as much as 15% to around $22, right about where the stock was on Thursday before talks regarding a potential merger <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hasbro-in-talks-to-acquire-dreamworks-2014-11">were first reported</a>. 
Late Friday, a <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/dreamworks-animation-hasbro-end-merger-749215">report</a> from The Hollywood Reporter said that talks between Hasbro and DreamWorks Animation had broken down, with the publication citing the high price sought by DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Reports indicated Katzenberg was looking for a deal valuing DreamWorks at $30-$35 per share.
Late last Wednesday, Deadline.com reported that the companies were in talks on a potential deal, though some in the analyst community were <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hasbro-and-dreamworks-animation-merger-makes-no-sense-2014-11">skeptical</a> of the deal's logic and feasibility. 
This is the second time in six weeks that reports circulated regarding a potential deal for DreamWorks, only for those reports to be promptly reversed.
In late September, The Wall Street Journal <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/softbank-in-talks-to-acquire-dreamworks-animation-2014-9">reported</a> that DreamWorks and Japanese conglomerate SoftBank were in potential merger talks, though less than two days after that initial report, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/talks-slow-between-softbank-and-dreamworks-2014-9">Journal said</a> talks between the two sides had cooled.
Those talks sent DreamWorks shares from about $22 to north of $28, but through early October DreamWorks shares lost all of their gains earned following the deal reports. 
This time around, DreamWorks has forfeited its deal-report-related gains in just one day.

DreamWorks Animation Shares Are Getting Crushed

For months, <keyword id="1858114" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Nikki-Finke">Nikki Finke</keyword> and her publisher, <keyword id="1043859" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jay-Penske">Jay Penske</keyword>, have been at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nikki-finke-responds-to-sharon-waxman-2013-6" target="_blank">very public odds</a> over <a href="http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/" target="_blank">Deadline Hollywood</a> - the entertainment industry blog that Penske <a href="http://articles.latimes.com/2009/jun/24/business/fi-ct-deadline24" target="_blank">purchased from Finke for a seven-figure sum</a> in 2009.
As of this morning, the two have officially parted ways.

IT'S OFFICIAL: Nikki Finke Leaves Deadline - The Controversial Hollywood Blog She Founded 

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Hasbro is in talks to acquire DreamWorks Animation, <a href="http://deadline.com/2014/11/dreamworks-animation-hasbro-merger-negotiations-in-works-1201282751/">according to a report from Deadline.com</a>.
Deadline reports that DreamWorks and Hasbro are in talks to create a combined family entertainment company that would be called DreamWorks-Hasbro, and says the deal is at least 60 days away from being finalized.
DreamWorks currently has a market cap of about $1.9 billion and is the studio responsible for producing animated films including, "Shrek", "Madagascar", and "How to Train Your Dragon."
Deadline's report said DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg is looking for Hasbro to pay $35 a share for the company, which would be more than a 50% from the $22.37 that DreamWorks shares closed at on Wednesday.
The New York Times, citing a person briefed on the matter, is <a href="http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2014/11/12/hasbro-said-to-be-in-talks-to-buy-dreamworks-animation/?module=BlogPost-Title&amp;version=Blog%20Main&amp;contentCollection=Mergers%20&amp;%20Acquisitions&amp;action=Click&amp;pgtype=Blogs&amp;region=Body">also reporting</a> that Hasbro and DreamWorks are in talks regarding a deal. That report said only that Katzenberg is seeking a deal worth more than $30 a share. 
These reports come about six weeks after The Wall Street Journal <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/softbank-in-talks-to-acquire-dreamworks-animation-2014-9">reported</a> that Japanese conglomerate SoftBank was in talks to acquire DreamWorks, though the Journal <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/talks-slow-between-softbank-and-dreamworks-2014-9">later reported</a> that these talks cooled for reasons that weren't known at the time. 
The Times' report on Wednesday also said it isn't clear why those talks broke down.
Deadline also reported that in a separate deal, DreamWorks is looking to form a joint venture with The Hearst Corporation involving its AwesomenessTV arm. 
DreamWorks <a href="http://ir.dreamworksanimation.com/investor-relations/press-releases/press-release-details/2013/DreamWorks-Animation-Acquires-AwesomenessTV/default.aspx">acquired</a> AwesomenessTV for more than $100 million in May 2013. AwesomenessTV operates a network of YouTube channels. 
Deadline broke the news after 8:00 pm ET, which is when stocks no longer trade in the after hours, but shares of DreamWorks are likely to rise sharply on Thursday following the news.

REPORTS: Hasbro Is In Talks To Acquire DreamWorks Animation

The Scottish Island of Jura has accidentally been wiped off <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> <keyword id="440912" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Maps">maps</keyword>, a problem that the Internet monolith is still trying to fix. 
The tiny island off <keyword id="44181" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Scotland">Scotland</keyword>'s west coast, which is home to more deer than people, disappeared from Google's map view sometime around July 5. It was still visible in the satellite view. 
“That doesn’t sound good!” <a href="http://www.thedrum.com/stuff/2013/07/06/google-sinks-scottish-island" target="_blank">Deadline.com</a> quoted a Google spokeswoman as saying when alerted of the issue. "We are sorry about that. We're aware of the problem, and our engineers are beavering away to fix it," she added. 
Based on our latest search, the poor island of Jura is still a block of blue ocean on Google Maps. The only remaining trace of the island's existence is a thin white line marking a road.
<a href="http://www.jurainfo.com/" target="_blank">Around 200 people live on Jura</a>, who are outnumbered by more than 5,000 deer. It covers an area of about 140 square miles.
This is not the first Google Maps snafu. Last November, geologists discovered that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/australian-scientists-undiscover-sandy-island-2012-11">Sandy Island</a>, a Manhattan-sized island that shows up on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/blackboard/google">Google</a> maps and other charts between Australia and New Caledonia, does not actually exist after they sailed right through it.

An Entire Island Disappeared From Google Maps

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Stocks went nowhere, but still made a record high, on Thursday in a session that saw the averages rally early before selling off to trade nearly unchanged. The big story on Thursday was oil, which continued its recent tumble, falling below $75 for the first time since 2011.

1. Crude oil got <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/crude-oil-tumbles-november-13-2014-11">completely slammed</a>. Again. West Texas Intermediate crude fell more than 3.5% on Thursday to well below $75 a barrel, its lowest level since 2011. WTI crude is now down about 30% from its highs earlier this summer, and in a note to clients <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/brent-crude-will-drop-to-70-2014-11">economists at Capital Economics</a> wrote that they expect Brent crude prices (which are used as the global benchmark and are currently around $78), to fall to $70 a barrel by 2016, four years earlier than the firm had expected. 
2. The latest report on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/weekly-initial-jobless-claims-nov-13-2014-11">weekly jobless claims</a> showed claims rose about 12,000 last week to 290,000, though this level is still near 13-year lows. Following the report, Ian Shepherdson at Pantheon Macro said that, "absent any shove from tighter policy, claims can remain close to their current trend for an extended period." 
3. The BLS also released its latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jolts-report-november-13-2014-11">JOLTS report</a>, which showed there were slightly fewer job openings in September than in August, though job openings are still near multi-year highs. The biggest piece of data from the report, however, was the quits rate, which showed a 2% quit rate from workers in September, up from 1.8% the previous month. The report showed 2.8 million workers left their job during September, which a number of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/markets-chart-of-the-day-november-13-2014-11">Wall Street economists</a> took as a positive sign for the labor market, with the idea being that workers are more likely to leave their job if they are confident they can find another one. 
4. New York Stock Exchange legend Art Cashin <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/art-cashin-traders-are-passing-around-singers-letter-2014-11">highlighted comments</a> from hedge fund manager Paul Singer in his morning note on Thursday, including Singer's recent commentary that "There is a current set of delusions that is powerful and dangerous: that monetary debasement can be infinitely pursued without consequences." The New York Times' Paul Krugman <a href="http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2014/11/13/rage-of-the-traders/?module=BlogPost-Title&amp;version=Blog%20Main&amp;contentCollection=Opinion&amp;action=Click&amp;pgtype=Blogs&amp;region=Body">isn't so sure.</a> 
5. Warren Buffett is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/berkshire-hathaway-acquiring-duracell-2014-11">buying batteries</a>. Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway announced on Thursday that it would acquire the Duracell brand from Procter &amp; Gamble, with P&amp;G getting $4.7 billion worth of its own shares currently held by Berkshire. The deal is expected to close in the second half of next year. 
6. DreamWorks Animation shares <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/dreamworks-shares-rise-on-hasbro-deal-talks-2014-11">gained more than 10%</a> on Thursday after reports from both Deadline.com and The New York Times said the company is in talks with Hasbro regarding a potential deal. But Business Insider's Kirsten Acuna, highlighting comments from analysts at Sterne Agee, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/hasbro-and-dreamworks-animation-merger-makes-no-sense-2014-11">reported</a> that some in the investment community don't think the deal makes any sense. Hasbro shares fell more than 4% following the news. 
7. Twitter shares fell more than 5% on Thursday, retracing most of their gains from Wednesday, as S&amp;P <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/sp-twitter-credit-rating-bb--november-13-2014-11">assigned</a> the company's debt a 'BB-' rating, which is considered "speculative grade" or "junk" by the bond market. 
8. Apple shares gained more than 1% on Thursday, rising to a new <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-has-rocketed-to-a-new-all-time-high-market-valuation-2014-11">all-time high</a> and pushing its market cap to its highest-ever level of $663.2 billion. 
9. Alibaba <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/alibaba-to-issue-bonds-2014-11">disclosed</a> that it plans to sell debt to US investors, in a deal that Bloomberg said could be worth $8 billion. 
10. Baker Hughes shares exploded higher late in the day Thursday after a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/report-halliburton-considering-buying-baker-hughes-2014-11">report from The Wall Street Journal</a> said Halliburton is in talks to acquire its oil-field services rival. The report made no mention of a potential price, but shares of Baker Hughes, which were halted for volatility after the news, logged gains of more than 15%.
