Facing 'cash for query' allegations, <keyword id="26422" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tmc" source="Orion">TMC</keyword> MP <keyword id="326914" type="General" weightage="90" keywordseo="Mahua-Moitra" source="Orion">Mahua Moitra</keyword> has written to the Lok Sabha <keyword id="297598" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="ethics-committee" source="Orion">Ethics Committee</keyword> that she will appear before it for the hearing on November 2-- the summoned date-- and has asked for permission to cross-examine the alleged 'bribe giver' <keyword id="291429" type="General" weightage="60" keywordseo="darshan-hiranandani" source="Orion">Darshan Hiranandani</keyword> the complainant, Advocate <keyword id="19343373" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jai-dehadrai" source="Orion">Jai Dehadrai</keyword>. The TMC Lok Sabha MP on Wednesday made public her letter to the Ethics Committee Chairman and BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar. Posting the two-page letter on her X handle, Moitra said, "Since the Since Ethics Committee deemed it fit to release my summons to the media I think it is important I too release my letter to the Committee before my "hearing" tomorrow." In her letter, Moitra alleged that Advocate Dehadrai had provided no documentary evidence to back his allegations in either his written complaint and neither could he provide any evidence in his oral hearing. "In keeping with the principles of natural justice I wish to exercise my right to cross-examine Dehadrai," she wrote in her letter to the Committee. "In light of the seriousness of the allegations, it is imperative that the alleged 'bribe-giver' Darshan Hiranandani, who has given a 'Suo-Motu' affidavit to the Committee with scant details and no documentary evidence whatsoever, be called to depose before the Committee and provide the said evidence in the form of a documented itemised inventory with amounts, date etc" she further wrote. "I wish to place on record that in keeping with the principles of natural Justice I wish to exercise my right to cross-examine Hiranandani," she added. Moitra had asked the Committee to answer in writing and place on record their decision to either allow or disallow such cross-examination. Moreover, the TMC MP also raised concerns over the 'double-standards' of the Ethics Committee and highlighted that the panel is adopting a different approach in the case of BJP MP Ramesh Biduri, who she says has a very serious complaint of hate speech. "In direct contrast, a very different approach has been adopted in the case of Shri Ramesh Biduri, MP, BJP who has a very serious complaint of hate speech (which was openly made on the floor of the House) pending against him in the Privileges and Ethics branch made by a Hon'ble member of this same Committee, Shri Danish Ali, MP. Biduri was summoned on October 10, 2023 to provide oral evidence and informed the Committee that he was away campaigning in Rajasthan and would not be attending. No further date of his hearing has been given so far. I wish to place on record that these double-standards reek of political motives and do little to enhance the credibility of the Privileges &amp; Ethics Branch," Moitra said in the letter. The TMC MP also questioned the jurisdiction of the committee in investigating alleged criminality. "There is also the question of whether the Ethics committee is the appropriate forum to examine alleged criminality. I wish to respectfully remind you that Parliamentary Committees do not have criminal jurisdiction and have no mandate to investigate alleged criminality.... This check was specifically created by our nation's founders to prevent even the slightest misuse of Committees by the government enjoying a brute majority in Parliament" the TMC MP wrote. Mahua Moitra is facing 'cash for query' allegations by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Nishikant Dubey, who alleged that Moitra had allegedly taken bribes from Dubai-based businessman Hiranandani to raise questions in Parliament to target the Adani Group. Dubey also wrote a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, titled "Re-emergence of nasty 'Cash for Query' in Parliament", seeking a probe into the matter. He also claimed that Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai had provided him with proof of alleged bribes. The BJP MP and the complainant Dehadrai had appeared before the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on October 26 to provide oral evidence. The Committee, hearing the matter, also asked Moitra to appear on October 31. Later, she requested a hearing date after November 5 citing pre-scheduled programmes but was denied an extension beyond November 2.

Based on the life (and death) of Indian inmate <keyword id="168716" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sarbjit-Singh">Sarbjit Singh</keyword> Attwal in a Pakistani jail, the movie stars <keyword id="16675" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Randeep-Hooda">Randeep Hooda</keyword>, <keyword id="62992" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="richa-chaddha">Richa Chaddha</keyword>, and in what should have been her comeback, <keyword id="6366471" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aishwarya-Rai">Aishwarya Rai</keyword> Bachchan. 
 
The story of an Indian farmer Sarbjit Singh, who was accused of being an Indian spy and was locked in Pakistan jails for 23 years, is an emotional one for sure, and it goes without saying that the director would have required the perfect mixture of expressions and emotions for this story to look real on screen, and by the looks of it, Kumar has managed to do just that. 
 
The trailer starts with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Aishwarya-Rai-Bachchan-as-Dalbir-Kaur-in-Sarbjit/articleshow/51209005.cms">Dalbir </a>(played by Rai) frantically looking for her brother in the fields of Punjab, who, unbeknownst to her, has been locked inhumanely in a sweatbox, suggestively in Pakistan. Right then comes the flashback, showing Dalbir in all her glory, living a good life with his happy-go-lucky brother Sarbjit (Hooda), his wife Sukhpreet (Chaddha) and his kids. 
 
In Pakistan, Sarbjit is accused of being a terrorist responsible for five bomb blasts, and is given the name of Manjit Singh, to which he very painfully shouts and disagrees. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Randeep-Hoodas-look-for-Sarbjit/articleshow/50867953.cms">Commendable job</a> there, Hooda. 
 
When Dalbir comes to know that her brother has been sentenced to death, she starts her battle for justice, which goes on for more than two decades, during which Sarbjit is shown to have been tortured, living in a small cell. The scene where he is seen complaining about him having to eat, sleep, and relieve himself all in one place tells us how difficult it is for prisoners like him, who are not even considered to be humans by the authorities. 
 Enters <keyword id="2475899" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Darshan-Kumar">Darshan Kumar</keyword>, who impressed everyone with his role of a selfless husband wanting to see his wife make her dreams come true in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Box-Office-Mary-Kom-Delivers-A-Big-Punch/articleshow/42041970.cms">Mary Kom</a>. Playing a Pakistani lawyer who is willing to take up Sarbjit’s case for the sake of humanity, he fits the role to the T. 
 
Red Fort and India Gate serve as the location where Dalbir sits with her entire family and supporters to protest for her brother’s release. We also get to see the emotional reunion of the siblings in the jail, his tiff with other inmates, and the trailer ends with Aishwarya addressing a Pakistani crowd with anger for being, and having always been, back-stabbers. 
 
Obviously, the movie would not release in Pakistan, but some movies are meant to show the truth, and one has to compliment Rai for breathing life in the role of a brave but helpless sister, who in the end, didn’t get the justice she deserved. 
 
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is considered to be one of the most beautiful women on the planet, has often impressed audience and critics with her acting skills, and when she took a five-year long sabbatical to start a family and raise her daughter Aaradhya, it was only a matter of time that she made her comeback and impressed everyone again. 
 
However, her comeback vehicle <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Jazbaa-Official-Trailer-A-Tad-Too-Dramatic-For-A-Thriller/articleshow/48683042.cms">Jazbaa </a>couldn’t do much to bring her back to the hearts and minds of cine-goers, but this movie will prove to be substantial for her career and might reestablish her image as one of the leading actresses of India.

Sarbjit, not Jazbaa, should have been Aishwarya Rai’s comeback

Their three-game winning streak snapped after a loss to Punjab Kings, five-time champions Mumbai Indians will look to address their poor death over bowling when they take on a resurgent Gujarat Titans in their IPL match here on Tuesday. After a familiar poor start, MI enjoyed a hat-trick of wins but their impressive run was cut short by Punjab Kings with a 13-run win on Saturday. Mumbai were let down by their death over bowling as they conceded 96 runs in the final five overs to allow PBKS post 214 for 8, and they will have to sort out their bowling ahead of the GT clash. It was the pace quartet of Arjun Tendulkar, Jason Behrendorff, Cameron Green and Jofra Archer who were put under the pump as all of them conceded more than 40 runs in their quota of overs. The experienced Piyush Chawla and his spin bowling colleague Hrithik Shokeen, however, have been on the money as they restricted the flow of runs, with the former snapping two wickets as well. MI's batting unit has looked formidable with the top and middle order being among runs. While Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have given a good start to the team on most occasions, Suryakumar Yadav's return to form is a big positive for MI, who have been served well by the overseas duo of Cameron Green and Tim David. In fact, Green and Suryakumar had almost won them the match against Punjab Kings with a 36-ball 75-run stand before being done in by Arshdeep Singh's magical overs at the death. Things are not going to be any easier for the MI batters as the Titans too possess a strong bowling attack. Criticised for not being able to defend totals this season, GT showed how to do it with a master class at the death overs to strangle Lucknow Super Giants' chase in their previous match. The star of GT bowling was comeback man Mohit Sharma, who walked away with the player of the match award after using his variations to telling effect against the Lucknow side. GT were in a dire situation with LSG cruising at 105 for 1 in 14 overs while chasing 136 but the bowlers, led by Mohit, denied them as he defended 12 runs in the final over. While Mohit has been a revelation, veteran Mohammed Shami too has been among the wickets. However, skipper Hardik Pandya hasn't really fired with the ball, having picked up only one wicket so far. Led by Rashid Khan, Gujarat's spin department looks potent with fellow Afghan wrist spinner Noor Ahmad and Jayant Thakur delivering under pressure against LSG. If Jayant conceded just seven in his last two overs, Noor took two wickets for just five runs in his final two overs to set up the win for GT the other day. GT batters have chased down totals but they have been sometimes guilty of not being able to push the score in middle overs. While <keyword id="6355643" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="wriddhiman-saha" source="Orion">Wriddhiman Saha</keyword> and Shubman Gill have scored runs at the top and Hardik top-scored in their last match, GT were about 10-15 runs short against LSG, mainly due to their slow batting in middle overs, something the team will need to address. Also, GT might need to give their top overseas batter David Miller more time in the middle by promoting him up the order. India is leapfrogging the US with ambitious renewable energy goals - and it's achieving them.Following the US' departure from the Paris accord, countries like India, China, and the EU have "stepped up to fill the void the US left behind" John Coequyt, the Sierra Club's global climate policy director, told Business Insider on Monday.India <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/dec/21/india-renewable-energy-paris-climate-summit-target">wants</a> to get nearly 60% of its energy from non-fossil fuel sources by 2027, and the country is <a href="http://www.climatechangenews.com/2017/05/15/india-china-track-exceed-paris-climate-pledges/">on track to exceed</a> the goals it set in its commitment to the Paris deal."India in particular has made huge progress in terms of not only meeting but actually being on track to exceed its Paris commitments," Coequyt said, "and as the cost of solar energy and other renewables continues to fall globally, we're only going to see that trend accelerate."So how did India, infamous for its sometimes choking pollution in major cities, cut back its emissions faster than anyone predicted? One word: coal.India has been unabashedly shutting down its coal plants. For example, The Independent reported last week taht Coal India, the world's largest coal company that's responsible for 82% of India's coal, announced it was <a href="http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/coal-india-closes-37-mines-solar-power-sustainable-energy-market-influence-pollution-a7800631.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">closing 37 mines</a> due to the economic non-viability of the fossil fuel. Indian economic coal imports are falling, and <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-04-25/india-s-energy-minister-wants-to-cut-coal-imports-to-nothing">Bloomberg reported</a> the India's energy minister announced the government wants to do-away with coal imports entirely.Dropping coal isn't a new phenomenon in India. From July 2015 to July 2016, India's "coal plant pipeline" fell by 40 gigawatts, according to <a href="http://coalswarm.org/trackers/a-shrinking-coal-plant-pipeline-mide-2016-results-from-the-global-coal-plant-tracker/">Coal Swarm</a>. And under its <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/dec/21/india-renewable-energy-paris-climate-summit-target" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">draft National Electricity Plan</a> from December 2016, the country isn't planning on building any new coal power plants.By virtue of adopting renewables with such gusto, about 25,000 remote villages in India <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/india-villages-leapfrog-to-renewables-2016-3">could never</a> use fossil fuels. They'll sail right past coal and start using solar, hydropower, and biomass as their first sources of electricity.Some in India might be seeing renewable electricity before places in the United States.
