New Delhi, Dec 27 () State-owned NMDC on Friday said production from its Donimalai mine in Karnataka will resume soon as discussions at the higher level were underway for extension of the mining lease.
 The Donimalai mine, with a capacity of seven million tonnes per annum (MTPA), was mired in controversy over renewal resulting in the cancellation of lease last year, which subsequently suspended the production from the mine.
 On likely extension of Donimalai mine lease, NMDC Director (Production) P K Satpathy said, "High-level discussions are going on. ...we are hopeful that in the coming future...one month, 15 days it can happen any time. All ground work has been done and logically we are on the right track. So there is no point for state government to withhold our extension of lease." 
 Satpathy was speaking on the sidelines of Mining Summit organised by the CII.
 Stating that the production from mine would be resumed soon, he said that "discussions (on extension of lease of the block) were going on at the higher level".
 "We have been under severe threat because of this lease renewal. In government companies only there is a provision of lease extension. (with regard to) private companies there is no such provision. No lease will be extended in 2021. They will be auctioned. But in government companies there is provision for extension of lease," he said.
 The public sector mining major, which has been in the business of mining iron ore for over six decades, operates three iron-ore complexes in the country.
 While one is located in Karnataka's Donimalai, two are in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh - contributing 70 per cent to the company's total output. SID MKJ

Raipur, Jul 1 () With 81 new COVID-19 cases, Chhattisgarh's overall count increased to 2,940 on Wednesday, while the fatalities rose to 14 after a 62-year-old patient, a retired forest officer, succumbed, a health department official said. Also, 53 patients were discharged from different hospitals following recovery from the disease, taking the numbr of such cases to 2,303, he said. Of the new cases, 31 were reported from Raipur, 18 from Rajnandgaon, eight from Dantewada, five from Balod, four each from Kabirdham and Koriya districts, three each from Bilaspur and Kanker districts, two from Balodabazar, while one case each came from Narayanpur, Bijaspur and Mungeli districts, he said. A retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer. who had tested coronavirus positive, died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Raipur, he said. The deceased, who was suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis and bilateral, was admitted to the AIIMS on June 29 with complaints of breathing difficulty and fever, a PRO of the institute said. His COVID-19 sample tested positive following which he was shifted to the ICU. The patient developed cardiac arrest on Tuesday late night. "Despite all resuscitative efforts, his condition deteriorated further and he succumbed at 12.40 AM on Wednesday," he added. Meanwhile, the state health department has asked people who had travelled on a Raipur-bound flight from Delhi on June 21 to stay in quarantine after one passenger of this flight tested positive for coronavirus. Passengers who landed at the Raipur airport by Indigo6E- 5039 flight on June 21 from Delhi are suggested to remain in quarantine. "One passenger in the flight was detected COVID-19 positive, a departments statement said. The department has also asked all the passengers of this flight to register their details on the helpline number 104, it said. The number of active cases in the state is 623, as 2,303 people have been discharged after recovery while 14 others have died so far, he said. 81 new COVID-19 cases found in Chhattisgarh; elderly man dies

Raipur, Aug 17 () Chhattisgarh reported 372 new COVID-19 cases and six more deaths, taking the statewide tally to 15,993 and the toll to 148 on Monday, a health official said. While three patients died on Monday and two others on Sunday, the COVID-19 report of a man who was brought dead to a hospital here on Sunday was found to be positive, he said. The day also saw the discharge of 363 patients following their recovery from the infection, he said. The state has now 5,247 active cases as 10,598 people have been discharged after recovery while 140 have died, the official said. Of the fresh cases detected on Monday, 170 were reported from Raipur, which is worst-hit by the pandemic in the state, followed by 59 from Durg, 34 from Bilaspur, 20 from Surguja, 14 each from Rajnandgaon and Mahasamund districts, seven each from Balodabazar, Raigarh and Kanker districts, five each from Janjgir-Champa, Dantewada and Sukma districts and four from Jashpur, he said. Three cases each were reported from Balod, Koriya and Bastar districts, two each from Bemetara, Kabirdham, Dhamtari and Surajpur while one case each came from Mungeli, Kondagaon, Narayanpur and Bijapur districts, he said. A woman is among six fatalities reported from the state, he said. A 72-year-old man from Durg district, who was suffering from coronary heart disease and diabetes, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here on August 14 after being tested COVID-19 positive. He died on Monday afternoon, he said. Another man, aged 46, from Mahasamund district, who was admitted to AIIMS on August 13 with complications in breathing and who later tested positive for the viral infection, died in the afternoon, he said. A Raipur based man, aged 55, was declared dead after being brought to AIIMS on Sunday and his COVID-19 report was found to be positive on the day, he said. Besides, two patients, including a woman, from Durg and another from Raipur died of COVID-19, he added. Chhattisgarh, where the infection has spread in all the 28 districts, has recorded over 10,900 cases and 124 deaths just in the last one month, the official said. Oracle to modernise vital IT infrastructure in 112 most backward district, says NITI Aayog

The Chhattisgarh government has said schools in the state will continue to remain closed till further orders in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, a move welcomed by many parents. As per the Centre's guidelines, state governments can take decision about reopening of schools after October 15. However, the Chhattisgarh cabinet on Thursday decided that in view of the pandemic situation in the state, schools will continue to remain shut. Hailing the move, Chhattisgarh Parents' Association (CPA), a state-level body, has demanded that the central and state governments declare this academic session as "zero year" for students till Class 8 and promote them to the next class. "Safety of children is the priority of every parent and sending them to school in the present peak situation of the virus outbreak will put their life at risk," CPA president Kristopher Paul told . "The government should declare the 2020-21 academic session as zero year for classes from nursery till 8 and promote the students to the next class," said Paul, whose son is in Class 6 in a private school in Rajnandgaon town. He said students of classes 9 to 12 should be given assignments and projects for their final evaluation, but schools should also not be opened for them till the COVID-19 situation is under control. Echoing similar views, Pradip Dongre, a sub-engineer with the irrigation department in Dantewada, said the current situation is not conducive for physical classes. "Why would parents like to allow their children to go out and expose themselves to the virus? It would be difficult for a school to identify which child's family members are infected by COVID-19," he said. Dongre said his son and daughter, who are in Class 8 and 12, respectively, are comfortable with online classes. Till Saturday, the state reported 1,40,258 COVID-19 cases and of these, over 80,000 cases were detected in the last one month. Though parents remain concerned, students of senior classes are disappointed with prolonged closure of schools as they are finding it difficult to understand topics clearly online due to internet connectivity issues. Shatabdi Rai, a Class 11 student of Career Public School in Korba, said online classes have changed the style of learning. "It is hard to understand topics clearly and get our doubts resolved online. Poor network is also an issue. Online classes cannot match normal classroom learning," she said. Annu Dubey, a Class 12 student of Maitri Vidya Niketan school at Bhilai (Durg district), said she not only misses seeing her friends, but also school sports. "I miss my friends and being in school as it is my last year of school education. We are becoming used to virtual classes, but they are not good as they create confusion a lot of times. Everyone starts asking questions together or sometimes internet connectivity gets disrupted," she said. In the wake of the pandemic, many government and private schools in the state have undertaken online classes to continue with the academic session. The state government's online academic portal, called 'Padhai Tuhar Duar', (learning at your doorstep), has proved beneficial for students and is being appreciated across the country, a government statement said on Friday. The portal was launched in the early stage of the nationwide lockdown to provide hassle-free and non-stop learning to children, it said. Till now, 39.57 lakh online classes have been successfully conducted by 1.43 lakh teachers, imparting education to 3.77 lakh children via smartphones, it said. Offline classes are also being conducted under the Padhai Tuhar Para (learning at your locality) initiative in remote and forested regions, which lack internet connectivity. As part of the initiative, 23,643 teachers are helping over 7.48 students via 35,982 centres, the release said. The offline classes are being conducted mostly in villages in collaboration with locals, it added.

But there are some polling booths, which are still marred by the blood stains caused by left-wing extremism. The voter turnout in Bastar was 59% in the last general elections five years ago. India’s red corridor reflects the eastern, central and southern districts that have been most affected by the Naxalist-Maoist insurgency. While Bastar is the “most sensitive” constituency voting today, Bihar too has been under high security. The bombs which were placed near a government school were defused. Security has also been beefed up in Telangana. In the state alone, over 5,749 polling stations have been marked as highly sensitive. As per an Economic Times report, Modi would be travelling to Dantewada in <keyword id="43945" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chhattisgarh">Chhattisgarh</keyword>'s Bastar region on May 9. This will be his first visit to the Naxalite-affected state as the Prime Minister. 
 He will launch two mega projects in Chhattisgarh. Modi will inaugurate work along with <keyword id="5269" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chief-Minister">Chief Minister</keyword> <keyword id="65641" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raman-Singh">Raman Singh</keyword> on the 140 km Raoghat-Jagdalpur railway line to improve connectivity and sign a memorandum of understanding for an ultra mega steel plant in Dilimili village.  Modi did not visit Dantewada for many years. He last visited the region during his election campaign as the <keyword id="58687" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword>’s prime ministerial candidate. His visit was preceded by a major attack by the Maoists. Modi’s visit comes a month before the arrival of monsoon season when the Maoists prepare themselves to make their presence felt in dense forests. 
 He will also address a rally in Dantewada and visit Javanda, where the <keyword id="51011" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-government">state government</keyword> has established an educational centre with residential schools and colleges for 5,000 students. These institutions are for those whose studies have been hampered by Maoist attacks. 
 Modi will visit a livelihood college that helps students get jobs. He will also address a rally in Naya <keyword id="45327" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Raipur">Raipur</keyword>, before leaving for Kolkata. Modi will inaugurate a low-cost housing project and a new wing of a private hospital in the new city adjacent to the state capital Raipur.

Globetrotting Modi to now visit the heart of India’s red corridor, Chhattisgarh

RAIPUR: Maoists ambushed a team of security personnel in tribal Bastar region on Friday, killing seven security personnel including a <keyword id="42808" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sub-inspector">sub-inspector</keyword> near Kuakonda in Dantewada district of <keyword id="43945" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Chhattisgarh">Chhattisgarh</keyword>. 
 Quoting preliminary reports, police said a sub-inspector <keyword id="562831" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Vivek-Shukla">Vivek Shukla</keyword> was among the dead. The security personnel were part of a road opening party (ROP) when the rebels attacked them. 
 The incident took place in Shyamgiri hills, under <keyword id="289665" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kuakonda-police">Kuakonda police</keyword> station limits, in Dantewada district. The <keyword id="6361689" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Naxalites">Naxalites</keyword> set ablaze motorcycles, belonging to the security personnel, and also looted their weapons. 
 
Two security personnel, who were injured in the encounter, have been evacuated and are now being shifted to the hospital at Jagdalpur. 
 
Police said encounter was still on as the forces retaliated fire. 
 
Additional security reinforcements have been rushed to the spot to carryout search and combing operations to flush out the rebels.

However, students of <keyword id="17605" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword> will not be able to listen to Narendra Modi's address as the state government has ordered closure of all the schools in view of heavy rain and floods. 
 
Interestingly, Narendra Modi will also take questions from some students across the country through video-conferencing. Analysts believe the move will strengthen the bond between the Prime Minister and millions of students of the nation.
