Business Insider reached out to author, travel writer, food critic, and columnist, Puneetinder Kaur Sidhu who co-authored several Lonely Planet guides on Chhattisgarh to share her experience. They want to bring these remote areas into the digital era and have already initiated such activities in Chhattisgarh, Injiram and Sukma. In July, it had also launched the first mobile phone tower in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. It also enabled internet facilities, and provided computers to students--a move which was well appreciated by its residents. “Padhega Bastar, tabhi toh badhega Bastar (Education in Bastar will lead to development),” Moses Dhinakaran, Directorate General of CRPF tweeted. The Bastar district in Chhattisgarh is prone to Maoist activities.

It recently provided smart TVs and DTH connections to a girls hostel in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh. The CRPF has deployed over <a href="http://www.newindianexpress.com/nation/2019/jul/21/in-a-first-crpf-to-install-sanitary-pad-dispensers-for-women-in-combat-2007290.html">300,000 personnel</a>, including several employed in conflicted or naxal areas of the country such as Bastar and Jammu and Kashmir.

India’s paramilitary forces organise digital classes in naxal affected areas

New Delhi, Dec 17 () The Chhattisgarh government has extended leases of state-owned NMDC's four mines in the state, to avoid interruptions in iron ore supply to the steel sector.
 As the result of the move, operations of the country's largest iron ore miner NMDC will not be affected in the state and the company will be able to supply raw material to steel makers.
 Earlier, NMDC had to suspend iron ore mining at its Donimalai mine in Karnataka following a decision of the state government to impose 80 per cent premium on the iron ore sales from the mine.
 NMDC Chairman and Managing Director N Baijendra Kumar said iron ore mines have been extended for another 20 years
 "We are grateful to the Government of Chhattisgarh and especially Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and top officials for their support to NMDC in granting extension of lease for the four mines for another 20 years," he said.
 The lease of the mines were due for extension in March 2020, an NMDC official said.
 Last month, the company said the Chhattisgarh government has assured the public sector undertaking of renewing mining leases in the Dantewada district for another 20 years.
 The state-owned firm, which has been in the business of mining iron ore for over six decades, operates three iron ore complexes in the country.
 While one is located at Donimalai in Karnataka, two are in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh contributing 70 per cent to the company's total output.
 Of the NMDC's 33 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) production, Chhattisgarh's two complexes in Bacheli and Kirandul under the Bailadila project contribute about 24 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in 2018-19.
 At the 7-MTPA Donimalai mine, mining operations have been suspended for want of renewal of lease. ABI HRS

 The development assumes significance as NMDC is the country's largest iron ore miner and unlike in Karnataka the company's operations will not be affected in Chhattisgarh and the company will be able to supply raw material to steel makers.
 NMDC had suspended iron ore-mining from its Donimalai mine in Karnataka following the decision of the State government to impose 80 per cent premium on the iron ore sales from the mine.
 "We are grateful to the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and top officials for their support to the NMDC and granting extension of lease for another 20 years," NMDC Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) N Baijendra Kumar said.
 According to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, expiring licences of mines will not be renewed and the mines will be allotted on the basis of fresh auction.
 However, a company official explained that "earlier as per the act the state may renew the lease of a mine if approached by public merchant miner. This meant that a state government can or can not extend the lease. But learning with what happened in Karnataka with NMDC, central government in September 2019, made an amendment to the law and replaced a the word "may" with "shall". Now it means state 'shall' renew the lease of a mine if approached by public merchant miner."
 The public sector mining major, which has been in the business of mining iron ore for over six decades, operates three iron-ore complexes in the country.
 While one is located in Karnataka's Donimalai, two are in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh - contributing 70 per cent to the company's total output.
