Navy control the Goa airport by more than 10% and has started reducing flight movements.<br />

It is a reduction of about five flights per hour from 15 flights per hour allowed earlier," an <keyword id="54875" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airports-Authority-of-India">Airports Authority of India</keyword> (<keyword id="47439" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aai">AAI</keyword>) official, who did not want to be identified, told The <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword>.<br />

Mumbai, Jan 19 () Aviation consultancy firm CAPA has said it expects the second international airport in Goa to be ready for operations in next three years. 
<p> The Supreme Court on Thursday cleared the decks for construction of an international airport by the GMR Group at Mopa in North Goa by lifting suspension on environmental clearance (EC) granted for the project.
</p><p> Immediately after SC's order, the GMR Group said it plans to start work soon for the new aerodrome.
</p><p> The top court had early last year suspended the EC granted for the greenfield airport and had directed the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) to revisit the decision in light of its impact on the ecology there.
</p><p> "Delays in critical infrastructure projects is costly for the economy and the consumer. It is good that GMR Group's Mopa project finally got clearance. We can look forward to new airport in next three years," CAPA South Asia Chief Executive Officer Kapil Kaul told .
</p><p> The state government had initially given September 2020 as the deadline for commissioning of the estimated Rs 3,000 crore airport project after GMR Group won bids for development and operations of the aerodrome in 2016, beating state-run Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Essel Infra-Incheon.
</p><p> However, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said in the Assembly last year that he was expecting the airport to be completed by 2021.
</p><p> Kaul also said that the the delay is likely to push up the project cost, but its impact could be minimised.
</p><p> "There will be cost escalation but GMR has the ability to minimise the impact," he said.
</p><p> GMR had last year said it was incurring a loss of Rs 50 lakh per day on account of suspension of work at the project.
</p><p> The new airport, which under the concession agreement offers 232 acres of land for commercial city side development for a period of 60 years, would have a capacity to handle 30 million passengers annually once fully operational.
</p><p> The existing airport at Dabolim, which was designed to handle 50 lakh passengers per year, has far exceeded its capacity and AAI has already embarked on an expansion plan to increase the capacity to 1.30 crore passengers per annum by 2022. 
</p><p> The concession period for the greenfield project will be 40 years with a possible extension of another 20 years through a bid process.
</p><p> The airport will be built under the BOT (Build Operate Transfer) model.
</p><p> The regulatory regime for the concession will be hybrid till with 30 per cent cross subsidy.
</p><p> Under the hybrid till model, only up to 30 per cent of the non-aeronautical revenues, which include segments like retail, food and beverages and parking, would be used for cross-subsidisation of aeronautical charges.

But the very first day, the long and arduous bus travel from Goa’s Dabolim airport to our AirBnB in Palolem wringed out every bit of our zeal for adventure from our bodies.<br /><br />It was dark, raining cats and dogs and we could not see a thing on our two-wheeler journey from the bus stop to our AirBnB. Only our strong desire to find a mattress (hopefully dry) to rest our weary backs on got us to our destination.<br /><br />It was 10 PM when we reached our homestay and it was still raining, giving us a real taste of the Goan monsoon we were so eager to experience. The caretaker was nowhere to be found, but our host assured us via WhatsApp that all had been taken care of and that we just needed to get the keys from the security guard stationed outside the gated community.<br />  <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="112809655" title="Hosts have ruined Airbnb with excessive fees, high demands, and bad customer service, travel experts say" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br /><h2>Struggles at the Goa AirBnB<br /></h2>Soaked to our bones and shivering, we were quick to follow his bidding. As the key turned in the door, I was already thrumming with excitement at the prospect of a hot bath and warm blankets. However, as we stepped inside, the musty scents of mould and rotting wood hit our nostrils. Still optimistic, we warily ventured inside, reassuring each other that the room just needed a little bit of airing out.<br /><br />Peak monsoon was still in its last vestiges and the place had been closed for a long time, it was only normal for the place to smell musty, we comforted each other. But once we’d taken care of our sodden selves and equally sodden luggage, we got a closer look at our accommodation — the one we had booked after much deliberation and thoroughly going through the reviews. The place didn’t just reek of mould, the black stuff was everywhere and the smell wasn’t going anywhere.<br /><br />One asthmatic looked to the other, knowing that staying here for the entire duration of our trip was out of the question. Amongst them, the socially awkward one told the people-pleasey one to speak with the host and inform him of what was going on. When we texted our “superhost”, he offered to shift us to another property he owned in the same building. But lo and behold, that flat was just as bad, if not worse.<br /><br />We finally made the tough call of possibly upsetting our host and asking for a refund so we could find another property. Simultaneously speaking with him and AirBnB <keyword id="19925749" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="customer-support" source="keywords">customer support</keyword>, we shared why we couldn’t continue our stay there and attached a bunch of pictures — clearly displaying the mould and dust.<br /><br />The response was pleasantly surprising!<br /><h2>Experience with the customer service</h2>The customer service executive immediately agreed to cancel our reservation and our host agreed to refund all of our money as well. In the meantime, we were panicking about finding another accommodation in the short window of time we had. Every passing moment felt like we were inching closer to a night stranded in the storm.<br /><br />Our refund was guaranteed, but there was a twist! The hosting platform said that it would need about 2 weeks to process our refund. And since we were overly confident about our meticulous planning, we didn’t have enough cash to book a whole other property without the refund.<br /><br />We communicated the same to our hosting partner’s customer service and they turned out to be empathetic to our situation. After much back and forth, mostly to get a better understanding of our situation, and which location we wanted to shift to, we finally went to bed at the same property, hoping for amicable resolution in the morning.<br /><br />Within a few hours, the AirBnB asked for our preferences for relocation. We also spoke with our potential new host to make sure their place was mould-free. Soon, customer service got back to us saying that they had reserved the new accommodation for the rest of our week-long trip and also gave us a “one-time courtesy” coupon for the same amount that the new place would cost us.<br /><br />It slowly dawned on us that this meant that our stay would be practically free! All the hopelessness from starting the trip full of rain and rot turned into glee and we wasted no time packing up our bags and riding off to our new destination — which turned out to be much cleaner, mould-free and in a much better location!<br /><h2>Takeaway</h2>Our main takeaway from the whole experience was that you cannot research a place enough! When looking at reviews, firstly make sure that there are enough of them, and then ensure that they’re recent. Read between the lines and ask your potential host very specific questions. Most importantly, document any issues that you’re having immediately because Airbnb generally sides with the guest <em>if </em>there’s clear evidence, as per reports.<br /><br />Have a few alternative listings saved in case something goes wrong, especially during peak travel times or in popular locations and keep some extra funds handy for emergencies, like needing to book a hotel for a night while sorting out an issue with Airbnb or the host. Around 1,550 Israelis left stranded in India due to 21-day nationwide lockdown since March 24 midnight have flown back home over the week in seven flights, a diplomat said on Wednesday.<br /><br />"We have flown about 1,550 Israelis home (Tel Aviv) in seven rescue flights from New Delhi, Mumbai and Goa (Panjim), Isareli consulate deputy consul-general <keyword id="7291644" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ariel-Seidman">Ariel Seidman</keyword> told IANS here.<br /><br />The Israelis, including tourists, flew in two Israeli airlines El Al and Arkia and state-run Air India.<br /><br />In the last rescue flight from Dabolim airport in Panjim on Monday night, 105 Israelis, including 95 stuck in north India, and 10 from Karnataka, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu flew in the chartered plane to Tel Aviv.<br /><br />"The last batch of 105 Israelis boarded an Arkia chartered plane on way to Tel Aviv from <keyword id="6357117" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="bangkok">Bangkok</keyword> with 65 Israelis who were also stranded in Thailand," recalled Seidman.<br /><br />All the Israelis who flew from India paid for their airfare.<br /><br />"The 10 Israelis drove to Panjim in cars on Monday after staying overnight in Bengaluru," said the diplomat.<br /><br />Of the 10 from south India, a couple of them are in their mid-40s and one aged above 70.<br /><br />The deputy consul thanked the Karnataka and Tamil Nadu police for facilitating the tourists' drive to Panjim, 590km northwest of Bengaluru.<br /><br />"The tourists had police escort all the way from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to Goa," noted Seidman.<br /><br />Karnataka deputy police commissioner M. Ashwini supervised the tourists escort through the state border to Goa.<br /><br />The country is under a lockdown till April 14 to contain the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> spread, with all domestic and international flights, train and bus services suspended for three weeks since March 25.<br /><br />"Most of the Israelis were backpackers touring India after their army assignment in the <keyword id="343197" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Israeli-Defence-Forces">Israeli Defence Forces</keyword>," Seidman pointed out.<br /><br />The tourists came to India during February and fanned out across the country.<br /><br />"Though they (Israelis) were not tested for coronavirus in India, they are under a 14-day quarantine in Israel," added Seidman.<br /><strong>SEE ALSO: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/data-of-coronavirus-patients-state-wise-in-india/articleshow/74669748.cms">Coronavirus cases in India state wise</a><br /><a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/topic/coronavirus">Coronavirus News and Updates</a> </strong><br />

1,550 Israelis stranded in India evacuated amid lockdown

A <keyword id="6358200" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jet-Airways">Jet Airways</keyword> flight carrying 161 passengers veered off the runway at Goa Airport while taking off.<br />

The Mumbai-bound flight skid off the runway at 5.30 am at Dabolim airport, resulting in minor injuries to passengers during evacuation.<br />

"Jet Airways regrets to inform that its flight 9W 2374, from GOI - BOM of today, with 154 guests and 7 crew, veered off the runway while aligning for takeoff. All guests and crew have been safely evacuated. Few guests have sustained injuries during the evacuation process and medical assistance is being coordinated by the Jet Airways team and the airport authorities," the airline spokesperson said.<br />

Flight 9W 2374 which had arrived from Dubai and was bound for Mumbai, was about to take off when it skidded off the runway.<br />

When the evacuation was on, the aircraft tilted forward, an eyewitness said, triggering panic among passengers. Navy sources said 15 people suffered "minor injuries and fractures" in the process.<br />

"When people were getting down the plane, it suddenly tilted forward triggering panic and chaos," a passenger told a PTI reporter.<br />
<br />
The airline is closely working with the local airport authorities to resume normal operations. The airline is making alternate travel arrangements for its guests to and from Goa in order to minimise inconvenience.
