Seeing the positive response on movie-related campaigns, the platform is confident that 2020 will see them engage with more movies. “In 2020, we aim to lead the sector with substantial integrations from Bollywood and regional production houses and to be the preferred platform for promotional collaborations,” adds Ong. Advertising for revenue Besides live streaming revenues, commercial advertising has become one of the most important means of revenue growth for Likee. Khan and Prabhudheva reunited for this project after Wanted in 2009. Dabangg 3 will launch a fresh face - Saiee -- the daughter of actor-filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar. The budding actress will play the love interest of superstar Salman Khan's character, Chulbul Pandey. In the last ten years, Khan has many superhits tucked under his belt like Ek Tha Tiger, and its sequel Tiger Zinda Hai, Dabangg series, besides Sultan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Both Dabangg and Dabangg 2 have earned as much as ₹100 crores.  Although first Monday collections saw a huge 50% drop in earnings (compared to Sunday) at the domestic <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword>, the movie collected around Rs 13.5 crore as per industry estimates, taking Kick’s four-day total to Rs 97.3 crore (approx.). The flick has also done some good business overseas and grossed around Rs 22 crore at the end of Day 4. “Kick is excellent in USA-Canada and has performed well elsewhere. The business will get a further boost once the Eid festivities begin,” said Adarsh in another tweet. 
 
With Kick hitting the 100 crore mark globally, Salman now has seven <keyword id="2448807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="100-crore-grossers">100 crore grossers</keyword> to his credit. The rest is usual Bollywood histrionics – right from accident to memory loss to melodrama and finally, a predictable climax without an ounce of surprise. But you would better forget the logic and the coherence part. The best thing that happened to this movie is Salman Khan (and the supporting cast) who sizzled all the way with devilish humour, sleek action and smooth romance.

Box Office: Salman’s Kick A Gold-spinner, Delivers Thrills Galore

But when <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> decides to remake a regional flick, it usually provides all the bells and whistles, passion and <keyword id="6355304" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="action">action</keyword>, which the audience is bound to lap up. Is Salman Khan-starrer <keyword id="6593120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jai-Ho">Jai Ho</keyword> (earlier called Mental) woefully lacking in those departments? 
 But before we get to the critical part of it, let us have a look at the <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> figures. The numbers are good and the <keyword id="1952421" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Action-drama">action drama</keyword> seems to be well on its way to enter the coveted <keyword id="6567206" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="100-crore-club">100 crore club</keyword>. According to industry estimates, the flick has grossed a little more than Rs 70 crore in the domestic market after Day 4 (January 27) and the overseas reception has been decent as well – around Rs 22.4 crore in the <keyword id="382940" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="opening-weekend">opening weekend</keyword>. But it has failed to create the kind of dhoom <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Dhoom-3-Breaks-All-Bollywood-Movie-RecordsGives-You-Some-Dumb-Entertainment/articleshow/27853596.cms">action thriller</a> created last year, both at home and abroad. The <keyword id="1839596" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office-collections">box office collections</keyword> of <keyword id="24705" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dhoom-3">Dhoom 3</keyword> stood at Rs 170 crore-plus just after the <keyword id="2034863" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="First-weekend">first weekend</keyword>, with nearly Rs 63 crore coming from the overseas markets. 
 
Made on a budget of around Rs 75 crore, Jai Ho hit about 4,500 screens in India, but flunked on the very first day. It collected Rs 17 crore nett in India on Friday (January 24), according to an official statement. However, business picked up during the <keyword id="2034866" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="R-Day-weekend">R-Day weekend</keyword> and the movie saw 80-100% occupancy at single screens in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and central India. The domestic and overseas theatrical rights of Jai Ho have been reportedly sold for $18 million. 
 
Now let us come back to the basics. Although not a financial flop, what has plagued the movie in the first place? It doesn’t lack the usual masala, of course. True to the <keyword id="2034869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="R-Day-sentiments">R-Day sentiments</keyword>, here is the <keyword id="1429841" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ex-Army-officer">ex-army officer</keyword> Jai Agnihotri (Salman), who has been chucked out because he was too intense and took too many risks. Back in civil life, he doesn’t change much and beats up the baddies with as much vigour. <keyword id="33178" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Danny-Denzongpa">Danny Denzongpa</keyword> (home minister <keyword id="2034843" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dashrat-Singh">Dashrat Singh</keyword>) and his daughter <keyword id="6508015" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sana-Khan">Sana Khan</keyword> are the root of all evil, but with Sallu Bhai around (what if he is nearing 50), no one can escape a heavy dose of action, whether you like it or no. <keyword id="2034846" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Debutante-Daisy-Shah">Debutante Daisy Shah</keyword> (Rinky) tries to add a bit of romance to the mix, but fails to look hot in spite of her see-through sarees. The rest of the cast could be easily forgotten except for <keyword id="6358125" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tabu">Tabu</keyword> (Geeta) who plays Sallu’s elder sister but has no script to deliver her role. 
 And the same goes for the entire movie. <keyword id="303" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Director">Director</keyword> <keyword id="28494" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sohail-Khan">Sohail Khan</keyword>, Salman’s brother, tried to stash in all the ‘hit’ elements without realising that they should be well integrated with an impressive storyline. Every single character stays painfully one-dimensional and we do miss Salman’s timely humour or the impish traits that made him adorable in many of the earlier hits like <keyword id="29781" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="wanted">Wanted</keyword>, <keyword id="94964" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dabangg">Dabangg</keyword>, <keyword id="518707" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dabangg-2">Dabangg 2</keyword> and <keyword id="638019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ek-Tha-Tiger">Ek Tha Tiger</keyword>. 
 The bottom line: Too much of anything is bad – be it cliché plots, action &amp; gore or the final shirt-ripping, even though you are getting a close view of Bollywood’s fittest star. Unless his character evolves suitably in the future, he may not make the cut in his <keyword id="2034878" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Action-avatar">action avatar</keyword> alone.

But the <keyword id="1943889" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Romance-drama">romance-drama</keyword> from director-producer <keyword id="6358308" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="sanjay-leela-bhansali">Sanjay Leela Bhansali</keyword> has stirred up quite a few controversies and failed to catch up with Krrish 3 or <keyword id="227940" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chennai-Express">Chennai Express</keyword> who reportedly grossed Rs 100 crore just after 4 days. In contrast, <keyword id="1886157" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ram-Leela">Ram-Leela</keyword>’s total <keyword id="182563" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="BO">BO</keyword> collection stood at a little less than Rs 60 crore after Day IV, according to industry estimates. 
 <keyword id="122490" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="film-critic">Film critic</keyword> and analyst <keyword id="107593" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Taran-Adarsh">Taran Adarsh</keyword> is, however, constantly tweeting about how the Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer is doing a great job overseas. Its total screen count in the international arena stands at 550 and the <keyword id="6356021" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="movie">movie</keyword> had a superb start in the UAE-GCC, the US, <keyword id="6356687" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="canada">Canada</keyword> and Australia. 
 
According to Adarsh, the movie has taken the global markets by storm and the overseas business during the opening weekend (Nov 15-17) has been bigger than both Krrish 3 and <keyword id="791377" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Yeh-Jawaani-Hai-Deewani">Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani</keyword>. The opening day was proof enough for that.

In fact, the movie saw around 70-80% occupancy in Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh circuits. That certainly spurred business and it made over Rs 30 crore in just 2 days, with the first day cash haul estimated at Rs 16 crore.

Mumbai, Jun 2 () A day after the demise of singer-music director Wajid Khan of composer duo Sajid-Wajid, their mother Razina Khan tested positive for the coronavirus, a family source said on Tuesday. Razina Khan is admitted to Surana Hospital in Chembur, where Wajid Khan was also undergoing treatment. "She has tested positive. She is doing fine and will remain in the hospital for few more days till her test comes out negative," the insider said. Wajid Khan, 42, tested positive for COVID-19 and died of a cardiac arrest. Popular for collaborating with brother Sajid Khan, on superstar Salman Khan's films like "Wanted", "Dabangg" series and "Ek Tha Tiger", the music composer died early Monday morning in a city hospital here. Please don’t tell me what to do,” declares a popular 21-year-old social media content creator and Bollywood actor in his recent reel, who is followed by 10.3 million fans on Instagram. If you think he received a ‘<keyword id="13467441" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="flying-chappal" source="Orion">flying chappal</keyword>’ later for talking back, you are right. This young man regretted saying no to his mother immediately, but it was too late. Even Bollywood, which often celebrates ‘anushasan, pratishtha and parampara’ (discipline, prestige and tradition), has normalised spanking kids or throwing chappals to ‘discipline’ them in various movies. <div type="image" title="Thappad" msid="90445777" hostid="261"></div> In fact, as a popular dialogue from the movie Dabangg suggests, abuse is so normalised that we are scared of love or feeling seen, not a slap. <div type="image" title="Dabaang" msid="90445783" hostid="261"></div> “Chappal fek ke maarungi” (I will throw a chappal at you) is a threat that could send a chill down your spine if you are a five-year-old kid, instil fear in your fragile mind and force you into doing a task that you absolutely hate. These traumatised kids, by the time they turn nine, are immune to “kaan ke neeche maarunga” (to put it loosely, ‘I will give you a tight slap’) and several other abusive threats they receive from their parents. To these kids, it is just a way of learning how to be a ‘good’ boy or a girl. Tragedy or comedy: What does the audience think of flying chappal reels To call out creators who normalise <keyword id="146441" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="physical-abuse" source="Orion">physical abuse</keyword> with flying chappal reels, Divija Bhasin, a psychologist, a digital content creator, uploaded a counter <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/CXYJw_Upd8O/?utm_medium=copy_link">reel </a>last month urging her audience to think about the long-term consequences on the child’s mental health. Bhasin says that this ‘flying chappal’ content could also be a coping mechanism. “It’s easier to laugh at it than to realise how much it affects us. This is something that is beyond the control of people when they are growing up and humour helps them to ignore the lack of control in this situation. There are many people who don’t see a problem with it because they were brought up that way. Finding it funny is actually a consequence of seeing it happen to everyone around them. It’s the idea that if everyone else is doing it, it must be right,” says Bhasin. Referring to sitcom Friends’ character Chandler Bing, Nikhil Taneja, co-founder and chief executive (CEO) of youth media and mental health platform, Yuvaa, also says that a lot of humour comes from repressed trauma. “You can’t always live in pain so what you do is you start laughing about it because it’s easier to laugh than talk about pain in an honest, vulnerable manner. It's difficult to see it as a tragedy and it's far easier to see it as a comedy.” According to a <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/survey-shows-77-parents-spank-children-at-home/story-zNNnm3jsFKshnpcCKPS0YO.html#:~:text=A%20recently%20conducted%20nationwide%20survey,this%20on%20a%20regular%20basis.">survey </a>conducted by an online community First Moms Club of over 1,790 parents, 77.5% of parents resort to hitting children, with 28% admitting that they do this on a regular basis. Another <a href="https://www.unicef.org/india/media/3776/file/Key-Findings-Parenting-Study.pdf">report </a>launched by humanitarian aid organisation United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in 2020, pinching, slapping, beating with rods, denying food were among 30 different ways Indian parents abused and punished their children. These punishments were doled out to children for perceived infractions as minor as watching television for too long, fighting with siblings or not completing homework or tasks. These punishments leave permanent scars on kids. So, if content creators are trying to reflect on their own pain and journey, a disclaimer clarifying that their content doesn’t mean to promote abuse or normalise violence, could help. “There is a part of the population, which would not like violence-based humour or maybe even get triggered with it, but there are people who may find it de-stressing. Hence, I think there are warnings at the beginning of videos so that people can choose the kind of humour they watch,” says Dr. Hemal Vajani, leading clinical hypnotherapist and homoeopathic consultant. Can small 60 second reels really normalise abuse? In today’s digital world, social media influencers hold a lot of power. A single Tier I creator can reach out to at least 2-3 million people at a time, convince them into buying new products or take another look at deep-rooted conditioning. So, if a content creator casually slaps their friends or kids to elicit laughter, it is not very often that someone in the audience would label it as abuse. “We think it’s “just a reel” but it’s not. It influences us on a more subconscious level because we are watching these not with the purpose of active learning. We take in this information and it changes the way we think because it is so normalised in media, we think it’s okay,” says Bhasin. Suggesting how content creators can talk about abuse, she adds, “If people want to joke about it, they should do it in a way that shows how it is actually abuse. Don’t undermine its effects by turning it into a lighthearted reel. It’s not lighthearted. It’s abuse and always will be (even if we laugh at it).” In the <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/education/2021/may/19/us-children-corporal-punishment-schools">US</a>, if a parent hits their kid, child services intervene. In India, slapping is a part of our ‘discipline’ culture -- so internalised that we laugh at our own pain. Dr. Shweta Sharma, clinical psychologist and founder, Mansa Global Foundation, points out that humourous content around physical abuse, generalises and normalises that behaviour. “When you are promoting anything, you are generalising behaviour. People form an opinion that this is common and we can do it, too. Here, media is so effective because you are using two senses -- audio and visual. While your ‘intention’ is making people laugh, they will perceive it as something that’s normal. Whether it was [the] <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/this-detailed-prezi-shows-how-the-ice-bucket-challenge-went-viral/articleshow/41113543.cms">ice bucket</a> challenge or <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/law-order/the-latest-internet-craze-includes-dancing-alongside-moving-cars-and-surprise-people-are-getting-badly-hurt/articleshow/65187925.cms">Kiki </a>challenge, people observe it from the media and start doing it.” Most young Indians don't even understand what really trauma is, says Taneja, and so many things considered completely normal, are actually trauma. “What [this type of content] does, is it makes a lot of people feel seen. At the same time, I think it does normalise it a little bit in people's heads saying, okay, if I'm not the only one going through it, maybe it is not that bad. So, I wouldn't like to put a lot of all the blame on folks who should do this because I don't even think they realise it. They are not really mining it for humour, they're also expressing that this is what their lives are like. We probably need to have these conversations with them as well and ask them if 'you feel like this is funny, what have you gone through. I feel for you.' At the same time, of course, we need a larger responsible creation ecosystem, where not just this but so many other things are normalised. We need to have tougher chats on that,” says Taneja. Mental health experts who spoke to Business Insider India said that when abusive behaviour is delivered as a joke, the humour decreases the perception that the speaker needs help and it increases our tolerance for violence. Internet users who stay silent are also indirectly endorsing it, becoming a part of the problem, too. However, the time has come to start calling this out for what it is. Abuse.

Hyderabad beats Mumbai, the home of Bollywood, for the number of movie lovers in 2019

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/48098043.cms" /> <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>, the eldest child of screenwriter Salim Khan and his first wife Salma, was born to be in <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword>. Even Salim Khan wanted to be an actor but resorted to writing after he failed to make it big in acting. 
 
Blessed with boyish looks that were a fad in the early 90’s, Salman Khan entered the industry as a humble beginner, in the 1988 movie Biwi Ho To Aisi. However, it was only in his next movie, Maine Pyaar Kiya that he swept girls (and women) off their feet and became the quintessential good boy of Bollywood. 
 
Continuing his acting spree all through the 1990s with hits like Saajan, Andaz Apna Apna, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Karan Arjun, Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, he ruled the hearts and the box office for years at a stretch. This was the time that Salman came to be known as one of the most stylish and good looking actors of Indian cinema. His good physique and a bare-bodied scene in every movie became his identity, along with the lover boy image that he always carried. 
 
Come the 2000s and Salman continued with the same, lover boy image, but with some wrong choices like Kahin Pyaar Na Ho Jaaye, Yeh Hai Jalwa, and Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge, he suffered some setbacks. In his personal life as well, he went through a much-publicized breakup and some pending court cases, which further slowed down Salman’s pace. 
 
There came a time when Salman’s career took a backseat and he struggled for a hit which could bring him back to the mainstream. Any which way, Bollywood in itself was not going through a good period at that time, but things changed when Salman, in his long locks and leather jackets, turned into the bad boy Radhe in the 2003 movie Tere Naam. The movie was a massive hit and brought Salman back in the limelight, but only for a small period of time. 
 
There was a series of flops like Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?, Lucky: No Time for Love, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa, Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar, Saawan... The Love Season, Jaan-E-Mann, Hello and Heroes, but despite these continued flops, Salman remained one of the most sought after stars in Bollywood, because of the unending loyalty his fans had for him. He always had fans, but for his bankability, producers needed hit films, and with a line of films like Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Dabangg 2, and Kick, Salman Khan has broken the record of the maximum super hits, and has became the most bankable star of Bollywood. 
 
Bajrangi Bhaijaan releases tomorrow, but has already made a huge buzz in the industry. It is surely going to be a massive opener, given the strategic timing of its release, just after the holy month of Ramadan, the golden time that Salman is enjoying, and as we said above, the unending loyalty his fans have for him.

Bajrani Bhaijaan releases tomorrow: How Salman Khan has reinvented himself over the decades

With the Shah Rukh starrer Raees already gaining traction on social media, this action-thriller by Rahul Dholakia would see King Khan romancing Pakistani belle Mahira Khan. 
 
On the other hand, Sultan by Ali Abbas Zafar would reportedly see Salman playing a wrestler. The film female lead is still top secret.

Today, the ‘Lootera’ girl has decided to voice out a concern also, through her photos and a series of tweets, which is banning Jallikattu. 
 
She has urged Union Minister Prakash Javadekar to ban Jallikattu, a bull taming sport played in Tamil Nadu to celebrate Pongal. 
 
Even though the Supreme Court has banned the sport, it is still practiced in many parts. 
 
Sonakshi loves posting pictures on instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Recently, she created ripples through a number of Dubsmash videos and Salman Khan also made a debut Dubsmash with her. She was also quite active while posting candid moments and photos of IIFA 2015.
