The University of Delhi has released a list of 6,100 <keyword id="21977691" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vacant-seats" source="keywords">vacant seats</keyword> for the second round of undergraduate <keyword id="19962926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="admissions" source="keywords">admissions</keyword>, following the conclusion of the first round. Vacant seats have been displayed on the dashboards of the candidates. With 91.98 per cent (65,843) of seats already filled, candidates have been provided the opportunity to re-order their (college and course) preferences from August 22 to 23. The university aims to begin the <keyword id="20248930" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="academic-session" source="keywords">academic session</keyword> on August 29. As many as 65,843 candidates have confirmed their admission to undergraduate courses at <keyword id="19927119" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-university" source="keywords">Delhi University</keyword> in the first round. The total number of <keyword id="22671029" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="undergraduate-seats" source="keywords">undergraduate seats</keyword> in <keyword id="21617246" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="DU-colleges" source="keywords">DU colleges</keyword> is around 71,600. Early this month, the university began the allocation acceptance process, offering 97,387 seats in the first round. To ensure optimal seat occupancy, the administration decided to make extra allocations, targeting an academic session starting on August 29. The university is conducting admissions for 71,600 seats (excluding supernumerary seats) in 69 colleges and departments. There are 1,559 programme-college combinations available for admissions. This year, DU has introduced a feature on the candidates' dashboard, enabling them to view the details of <keyword id="22889419" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cutoffs-and-ranks" source="keywords">cutoffs and ranks</keyword> determining seat allocation based on category and quota. Earlier in the month, the University of Delhi (DU) climbed five spots to secure the 6th position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (<keyword id="20051367" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nirf" source="keywords">NIRF</keyword>) 2024. DU Vice Chancellor Professor Yogesh Singh attributed this achievement to the collective efforts of the university's faculty, students, and staff. In the university category at the national level, DU had previously moved up two spots to reach the 11th position last year. This year, the university continued its upward trajectory, also climbing seven places in the overall ranking to secure the 15th spot.

<ul><li>The University Grants Commission (UGC) has just issued a letter saying that the colleges falling under the university can now apply for an autonomous status using an online portal. </li><li>The autonomous college will be able to design their own courses, fee structure, and admissions. </li><li>Earlier in 2017, the move for privatisation was largely opposed by students and teachers.</li></ul>As colleges under the University of Delhi were considering to seek autonomy for some time, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has just issued a letter saying that the colleges falling under the university can now <a href="http://13.71.18.76:8085/College/Registration">apply</a> for an autonomous status online. The portal is now active on the official UGC site trying to give an impetus to colleges to become autonomous, should they choose to do so. However, these colleges will be affiliated to a university, TOI reported. In a notification, the UGC said it is inviting applications to colleges that want to pull away and be their own thing. This means that the colleges will now be able to roll out their own course structure, admissions, student fees and academic faculty staff. Moreover, the <keyword id="156640" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Autonomous-colleges">autonomous colleges</keyword> will also enjoy the liberty to announce results and issue marksheets as a separate entity. The move may affect students who are planning to enroll in several courses under Delhi University. Back in 2016, UGC had<a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/delhi/six-autonomous-colleges-du-marches-ahead/"> floated guidelines</a> for autonomous colleges, encouraging colleges to apply. Given that, Delhi University had pushed colleges to become autonomous institutions. However, this step towards privatisation was largely opposed by students and teachers, finding the move ‘disastrous.’ According to media reports, this may also lead to lack of fund support from the government as the colleges will only pay for courses they can afford. The application form has been issued on the official website of University Grants Commission (UGC).

The DU-Cut off list is out; and it has set the tone of a tough DU admission race. None of the <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> colleges have kept the ceiling at 100 per cent in their first cut-off list for admission to undergraduate courses. 
 
This is not to say that the cut-offs are low this time, they have just recorded a slight dip from last year. 
 
This is what the first cut-off list looks like: 
 The highest cut-off for the academic session has been announced by <keyword id="6479792" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ramjas-College">Ramjas college</keyword> at 99.25 per cent for BCom Honours, 98.75 for BCom and 98.5 for Economics Honours. 
 The cut-off for <keyword id="6417880" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="hansraj-college">Hansraj College</keyword> has remained unchanged across stream with Eco(H) being the highest at 98 per cent. 
 
Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), ranked among the best in the country for higher studies in Commerce and Economics, announced its cut off at 98.25 per cent for Economics Honours and 98 per cent for BCom Honours. 
 
Miranda House cutoff for science courses is also same as last year with the highest being for Economics Honours at 97.75 per cent. 
 
Lady Sri Ram College has announced its cut-off for Psychology at (98.50 pc), English (98.25 pc), Economics (98 pc) and Commerce (H) (98pc). 
 
 
Why taking admission in the first list is VERY important 
You may not get the course or college of your choice, but not taking admission in the first list and waiting for the second list is a risk not worth taking. 
 
If you get a college and a course of your choice, there’s nothing like it! However, if you are facing a tricky situation like you can get admission in a course of her choice but not in a college you want to study in, the best bet is to still go ahead! 
 
This is because of two reasons: One that university counselors for years have been saying that students should always opt for course over college because even as there is difference in faculty of various colleges, picking a course over a college will give you an opportunity to study something that you are interested in. If you are considering the reputation of a college, it is only going to help you make an impression for three years and is not a long term benefitting approach. Notably, all colleges in DU follow the same curriculum and teachers are selected based on the same criteria. 
 
Secondly, all DU colleges follow a policy where applicants who were eligible but did not take admission under the first list in a particular college, will not be given consideration in the second cutoff list unless they have seats left. That means if in the second cut off list you do not get a lucrative option, and want to go back to the option in the first cut-off list, there are high chances that it may not be possible. However, if you take admission in a course you are eligible in in the first list, and make it to a college of your choice with the desired course in the second list, it’s a win-win situation because then you can go to the college, make sure you are eligible and then withdraw admission from the first college. 
 
When do you choose a college over course 
The only case in which you should choose a college over a course is of you are totally unsure about the course you want to pursue. 
 
When nothing seems to be working out, this will! 
There are five cut-off lists in total and with each list, the chances of making it to a DU college improves. However, if luck is not in your favour, there’s no reason for you to worry. You can apply to the School of Open Learning as a back-up which has BA (honours) Political Science, English and B Com, BA Programme and BA Programme courses. The admission application process hasn’t started yet, so keep your eyes out on this one!

DU FIRST CUTOFF LIST - Don't
sulk over not making it to your dream college, just get admission to your desired course for now

Delhi's Seelampur Basti could not stop rejoicing when 14 children who grew up here were abe to make their way to the prestigious <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> by the time the second cut-off list was out. 
 
14 students, 12 of whom are girls, have secured admission in popular North campus colleges out of the 78 students who appeared for class XII examination from Seelampur slum area. 
 The highest scorer Saugatha has managed to secure a seat in Urdu Honours in <keyword id="117655" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kirori-Mal-College">Kirori Mal College</keyword> at 86.5 per cent. Her father is a street vendor. 
 
Even as the credit goes to these hard working students who have made their basti proud, significant efforts by an NGO called Asha in educating the slum children and helping them achieve higher education, has been instrumental in helping such bright kids enter Delhi University year-on-year. 
 
Last year, a whopping 114 students guided by this NGO had made the cut. Sandeep, with 94% marks, got the highest score in this group in 2015. He lived in a slum in north Delhi’s Peeragarhi and managed to secure a seat in Rajdhani College for B.Com (Hons). The year before, in 2014, least 150 slum kids got admission in DU. 
 
For these students, the main difficulty was not just to get resources to study, but a larger battle of convincing parents to allow them to pursue education as against using them to start earning and contributing to the family income. For Asha the NGO, there have been such challenges of counseling the family, especially that of girls, before they can start educating and preparing the kid for exams. Their help then extends to dressing them up with new clothes, planning their travel, helping them fill college admission forms, get educational loans for those who wish to study in private colleges. 
 
Since 2008, Asha has been helping students from the slums to go to university. In the first batch, 20 students had got admission in DU and the numbers have been increasing since then. Although this year the students qualifying to DU are less than last year, its too early to say because three cut-off lists are still awaited.

Delhi's Seelampur Basti rejoices as street vendor's daughter, 13 other slum kids make way to DU colleges on Merit

Two years back, a DU aspirant named <keyword id="2254302" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunny-Goel">Sunny Goel</keyword> was denied admission by <keyword id="6542932" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shri-Ram-College-of-Commerce">Shri Ram College of Commerce</keyword> for no fault of his. 

	Goel had sought admission in B.Com (Honours) course after his best-of-four percentage increased from 95.5 percent to 97.5 percent following re-evaluation of his papers by the CBSE. He had moved the High Court after the college denied him admission on the ground that the admission process had concluded on July 7, while Goel had applied three days later, on July 10.
 Goel said he had applied for admission in the college and had also applied for revaluation but there was a delay on the part of CBSE in revaluating his English paper. He contended that students with percentages less than him were admitted to <keyword id="6363378" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SRCC">SRCC</keyword>. 

	The boy says it wasn't his fault that CBSE delayed re-evaluating his papers. Why was he being asked to pay the price for it - something he argued before the court as well. 
 

	The court had considered his plight and said the revaluation facility would be "meaningless and nugatory" if students could not make use of revaluated marks. It also held that re-evaluation of marks by CBSE was not an "exercise in futility" and has to have some "significance and import".
 SRCC was then directed to admit Goel. However, the college challenged the single-judge order and argued that it could not be directed to admit students beyond its maximum capacity as the <keyword id="56459" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="University-Grants-Commission">University Grants Commission</keyword> funding was based on their maximum intake capacity. 

	A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice R.S. Endlaw of Delhi High Court had then rejected these contentions on the grounds that the college could always approach the University Grants Commission for release of additional funds.
 

	"The college (SRCC) is the premium college of commerce in the city and enjoys an enviable position. The same is obvious from the college being the first choice of Sunny Goel. We, therefore, do not find any merit in this appeal, which is dismissed," the bench had said in its judgment which came out in September.
 In such cases, another arrangement can be considered- If the college is not left with any seat, a supernumerary seat should be created by <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> - was the advice given to the college. 

	Keeping in view the fact that the overwhelming majority of students admitted to colleges under Delhi University belong to the CBSE, the court had also directed the CBSE chairman to meet the vice chancellor to ensure that from the next academic year, "students' re-evaluation marks are taken into account while granting admission to colleges of DU".
 

	So, if you're taking admission to Delhi University this year, and your papers are getting re-evaluated or you are facing problems getting inside a college of your choice despite being eligible for a course- DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!

It's that time of the year again when students are seen heckling each other, harrased, sweating in the sweltering Delhi heat almost struggling to make it to the best DU colleges. It's one of the best universities recognized world over, and every year one gets to witness tremendous competition and what one may call a rat-race. 
 
With cut-offs soaring high each year, DU has never failed to astonish applicants nation-wide. It offers as many as 54000 seats in around 16 faculties and 86 departments spread over North and South Campuses. This year, however, has come with a difference - Admission procedures have gone online! 
 Online registration for 3-year UG courses on cut-off basis will begin June 1 onwards. Apart from regular candidates, applicants from sports and extra-curricular activities also have to apply online. Let's go in-depth on some of the instructions announced by <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> for UG aspirants. 
 
Instructions you should know: 
 
1) Delhi University 2016 application form will be valid for each programmes/courses offered at all colleges including St. Stephen’s College and Jesus &amp; Mary College. However, St. Stephen’s and Jesus &amp; Mary Colleges will have their separate admission criteria. Therefore, it's advisable to fill the Application Form only after ensuring the courses/programmes available in the respective colleges of the Delhi University they are interested in. 
 
2) Candidates will need to register in online mode through the official DU Admissions 2016 link to be available on its website by June 1 for applying to any UG course. 
 
3) Candidates will have to provide basic details including E-Mail, Password and Mobile Number for online registrations. Once Candidates have registered online, they need to provide their Login credentials using Login Id and Password and fill the Application Form. 
 
4) These documents will have to be uploaded online:

5)During the online application process, candidates will need to remit an application fee in the online mode using Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking. Those falling under General/OBC would have to pay RS 100 while those under ST/SC/PWD would have to pay Rs 50. 
 
*It is advised to verify the furnished details in the Application Form of DU Admissions 2016 before submitting the form, else no information will be corrected and changed afterwards and incorrect information may lead to cancellation of candidature. Once submitted, a copy of the same is needed for future correspondences.

The University of Delhi also abbreviated as DU is a public central university created in 1922. DU offers a wide range of courses in the under graduation, graduation, doctoral levels besides many diploma courses across a diverse range of fields like humanities, science, commerce, management, law, and engineering. Here we discuss how to get admission to the DU for the various graduate programs. Entry into Delhi University Admissions to DU are based on merit. The candidates seeking admission to the various courses need to clear an entrance examination conducted by NATA. For management courses, the scores of the CAT examination will be considered. For providing admissions to the dental and medical courses, NEET scores will be taken into account. Eligibility criteria for admission While seeking admission to the various courses in DU, students must ascertain if they satisfy the eligibility criteria specified by the university. Students of any age can seek admission to the various courses excepting in courses where the regulatory authorities including MCI, BCI, DCI and AICTE have specified the age limit. For taking admission to the various graduation courses the students must have completed 10+2 education in their school level with the main subjects related to the courses they wish to pursue in the graduation level. In addition, admission criteria to each of the courses specify a minimum percentage of marks for admission for which the details are available in the DU website. Entrance examination pattern The entrance examination pattern of the DU consists of multiple choice questions excepting in case of admission to language courses. The total duration of the entrance examination will be two hours. The students will have to take the entrance tests on computer-based mode. For UG courses, each question carries four marks with one negative mark for a wrong answer. The syllabus for the entrance tests for the UG courses will be based on the topics students studied in their plus 2 levels in their respective streams. The way to score well in the DU entrance exams for graduation courses includes becoming familiar with the exam syllabus, mastering the exam preparation materials available in the market, and practicing the previous year question papers. Admission process after the entrance examinations The results of the various entrance exams will be announced online in the month of July. For each of the categories, a separate merit list will be prepared by the university. The students are required to take a print out of the results for moving ahead with the subsequent admission process. For admission to the various merit-based UG courses, the university will announce the cutoff. The same will be published on the official website of the DU. The cut off will vary year on year depending on the demand of the seats in the given course. Candidates scoring the marks specified in the cut off can apply for admission. Scanned copies of the required documents will have to be uploaded online and once the admission is approved, the candidates will have to pay the admission fee online.

As many as 130 students received job offers at SRCC. “We haven't seen an overall impact of the slowdown in placements. The number of companies coming has more or less remained the same since last year, however the number of students that were made an offer to have increased,” Kanika K Ahuja, placement in-charge at LSR told ET. The students who get admission to these Delhi University-affiliated colleges have to score over 95% in the 12th grade — due to high cut-offs. Among the top recruiters were Gartner, EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, Samsung and Accenture. On the other hand, <keyword id="311892" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shaheed-Sukhdev-College-of-Business-Studies">Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies</keyword> (SCBS), which is ranked as the second best undergraduate b-school in India, bagged 106 offers at an average compensation of over ₹7 lakh. The highest offer stood at ₹18 lakh per annum. The average compensation at other DU colleges fluctuated between ₹6 lakh to ₹10 lakh per annum. While the overall average salaries in India went up by 45% for undergraduate students. This is despite the economic downturn in the country. The growing trend of summer placements The growing trend of summer placements and pre-placement offers too might have had an effect on the increased interest of recruiters. Companies like Deutsche Bank, Citi Bank are also banking on summer placements to assess talent, thereby extending pre-placement offers. At SCBS, Goldman Sachs visited the campus to hire interns for their investment banking division. Students also received PPOs from companies like KPMG, RocSearch and Grofers.
