DU Admission 2021: All you need to know about the online admission process

DU, expanded as Delhi University is the dreamland for a large number of youth to pursue their collegiate courses. Considered among the high-profile educational institutions in the country, Delhi University has a big charm about it among the learners. Here is a detailed process of admission to DU. Delhi University counseling happens through offline mode. Students can seek admissions in Delhi University for UG, PG and doctoral courses across a range of disciplines. The university organizes entrance examinations to prepare the merit list for the sake of providing admissions to students. Here are the different stages of the admission process. Admission to DU is purely based on merit and the process of admission will take off once the admission list or cut off is released by the university. Students need to choose the course that they wish to pursue and then apply for admission. Students can access the DU Counseling through offline mode. Depending on the seats availability, the counseling is organized in different rounds. The admission process will also consist of GD and PI rounds. DU cut-off is generally released in the 3rd week of June 2019. The university releases independent cut-off lists for science, arts and commerce courses. The cut-off can be defined as the minimum marks that the candidates are expected to score in order to successfully get through the entrance test and qualifying examination. When the Honourable <keyword id="15204227" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shri-Hardeep-S-Puri" source="Orion">Shri Hardeep S. Puri</keyword> wrote to me about his plans to publish an anthology to celebrate the centenary of <keyword id="6360099" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-university" source="Orion">Delhi University</keyword> and invited me as a celebrated alumnus to write a few words on this magnificent occasion, I wrote back and told him that I was the wrong person to be asked to do this. I did not believe that I fell into the category of 'eminent personalities' he had given reference to, as my years at the university (1958-61) were an academic embarrassment to me. If I were to write something, it would all be rather frivolous and not in keeping with the grace and intent of the anthology, I told him. But he persisted, and I relented. The DU (North Campus) where I sought admission and studied was, perhaps, patterned along the lines of the Cambridge and Oxford universities in the United Kingdom (UK), where several colleges stood side by side at one prominent location, many sharing common boundaries - not just of the physical built environment but also of a deeper educative ethos of imparting the requisite attitudes, values and knowledge to build generations of leaders. This is shared situatedness imbued immense camaraderie among the students. We would stroll into each other's colleges, mix with fellow students, relax at each other's canteens, travel in the same university bus to our home locations, become bitter rivals at intercollegiate competitions, and immediately forget all that animosity to join our voices in cheering for the university when it played against another. This was 1958, and I was at Kirori Mal College pursuing the BSc General course, from which I just about graduated in my final year. Academically, it was the wrong decision to take up Science, but the years spent there were an education in many other spheres, which has proved to be invaluable in my life. Looking back at the influence of my education on my career, I realize that it is the amalgamation of diverse disciplines that inspires every form of creative activity. For instance, where would writers be without a printing press, stage thespians without a proscenium and lights, painters without pigments and canvas, and, in my case, film actors without a camera? Education engenders myriad symbiotic opportunities in the spheres of technology and humanities. Chances are very high that I would not have been in cinema or in any other creative aspect of life without a grounding in education-education which is in consonance with the belief that 'what sculpture is to a block of marble, education is to the human soul'. Before leaving the hallowed grounds of university, we sculpt our identity; we strengthen and fortify our convictions in a manner that we do not fall into a trap-the trap of being swayed by the prejudices of caste and creed, and race and religion. During my days at the university, classes were held at the main university building, while the subsidiaries and practicals were conducted at the various individual colleges. It goes without saying that there is a palpable nostalgia as I think back on the hours spent at the Coffee House, or at the bus stop outside Miranda House (yes, always outside Miranda House), or on the sports field that would host intercollegiate and inter-university cricket matches, and, of course, in the classroom where regular attendance paid its dividends when it came to term-end examinations. If I may be permitted to stroll down memory lane a little more, it was at DU that I received my first serious encouragement as an actor. The tall and imposing Mr Frank Thakurdas of the dramatics club paid me my first compliment when I performed in a stage production of Maxwell Anderson's "Winterset". He recommended me to the USIS drama company to play the part of Abraham Lincoln, and chose me for the part of Zeus in Benn Levy's "The Rape of the Belt", staged at Miranda House. Mr Thakurdas remains a part of me. So does Dr Swaroop Singh, a messianic educationist who was the principal of Kirori Mal when I was studying there and later became the university's vice chancellor. Without saying it in so many words, he made us realize that we needn't aspire towards a graduation degree merely because of peer or parental pressure. He reminded us that we should aspire to become graduates because we feel the desire to be complete with the advantage of formal education. For argument's sake, some may opine today that education isn't mandatory any more, with the proliferation of what some may call 'unconventional' jobs and vocations. Some may wonder about the relevance of a degree if one cannot apply it later in one's profession. To my mind, these arguments are superfluous. To be sure, it is a bonus if we can use our education directly in our everyday work-in fact, that would be ideal. However, even if that weren't to be the case, the years spent on campus serve a much more vital purpose-they broaden our knowledge about the world around us, besides aiding personality development. Clearly, initiative in reading at the library, participating in cultural events, and asking more of ourselves and of our educationists, add up to making us aware and concerned citizens. As the proverb goes: Whatever is good to know is difficult to learn. Moreover, no one can argue against the fact that campus life is the formative stage in every individual's life; that is when we 'remove the shackles', as it were. Suddenly, from a regimented life, we are free to make our decisions and heuristically zero in on the subject we want to study or the vocation we want to take up. It is a key period in any young person's life - one of choice. My father taught English and poetry, and he expected me to opt for Arts in college. When I didn't, he was accommodative and understanding. Certainly, the youth of today - in fact, of any day and age - does not want to be preached at. As time goes by, they become more clued-up and more aware of their needs and aspirations. They can see which route to take on the highway of the future. But, believe me, that is not enough. They must also know their speed limits, when to turn and when to apply the brakes. The <keyword id="151282" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="university-of-delhi" source="Orion">University of Delhi</keyword> was absolutely essential in that regard. Time sped its way along, and then one fine day, almost 50 years after I joined Kirori Mal, I was informed that Delhi University was decorating me with an honorary doctorate. The first sentiment was to express my limitless gratitude. Who would have thought that an ordinary student graduate would someday be accorded such an overwhelming homecoming? My immediate response after that was to ask myself if I deserved an honour of such magnitude. Was I worthy to be honoured by my university, my very own family, which gave me some of the most wonderful years of my life? This was the same institution that inculcated in me the values and principles of life that I cherish deeply and will abide by to my dying day. Among all the accolades that I have been extremely fortunate to have received, it is, perhaps ironically, being bestowed with this honorary doctorate that I regard as one of the highest honours. A lifelong debt is owed to the University of Delhi. I feel it is only fair that I reciprocate the tremendous faith and honour the university has shown me. This anthology, edited by Shri Hardeep S. Puri ji and including some fascinating entries by other more deserving alumni of the DU family, allows me to pay my respects. Indeed, it was a privilege to be at the nation's premier seat of learning-one which has always championed the cause of education since its inception a hundred years ago. The Delhi University is going to offer 56,000 seats for UG courses and 9,500 seats for PG courses under non-EWS quota. According to the media reports, the admission process will probably last till 30 May 2019 and the first cut off list will be announced on 14 June 2019. The proposals awaiting decision include special deprivation points to students from government school or rural background, increase in ward quotas for teaching and non-teaching staff and taking Hindi into consideration for exams along with English. Last year, the admission process began on May 20, 2018. Here’s how to fill DU Application Form 2019. Delhi University admissions: Process will not start the until the third week of May

It's that time of the year again when students are seen heckling each other, harrased, sweating in the sweltering Delhi heat almost struggling to make it to the best DU colleges. It's one of the best universities recognized world over, and every year one gets to witness tremendous competition and what one may call a rat-race. 
 
With cut-offs soaring high each year, DU has never failed to astonish applicants nation-wide. It offers as many as 54000 seats in around 16 faculties and 86 departments spread over North and South Campuses. This year, however, has come with a difference - Admission procedures have gone online! 
 Online registration for 3-year UG courses on cut-off basis will begin June 1 onwards. Apart from regular candidates, applicants from sports and extra-curricular activities also have to apply online. Let's go in-depth on some of the instructions announced by <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> for UG aspirants. 
 
Instructions you should know: 
 
1) Delhi University 2016 application form will be valid for each programmes/courses offered at all colleges including St. Stephen’s College and Jesus &amp; Mary College. However, St. Stephen’s and Jesus &amp; Mary Colleges will have their separate admission criteria. Therefore, it's advisable to fill the Application Form only after ensuring the courses/programmes available in the respective colleges of the Delhi University they are interested in. 
 
2) Candidates will need to register in online mode through the official DU Admissions 2016 link to be available on its website by June 1 for applying to any UG course. 
 
3) Candidates will have to provide basic details including E-Mail, Password and Mobile Number for online registrations. Once Candidates have registered online, they need to provide their Login credentials using Login Id and Password and fill the Application Form. 
 
4) These documents will have to be uploaded online:

5)During the online application process, candidates will need to remit an application fee in the online mode using Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking. Those falling under General/OBC would have to pay RS 100 while those under ST/SC/PWD would have to pay Rs 50. 
 
*It is advised to verify the furnished details in the Application Form of DU Admissions 2016 before submitting the form, else no information will be corrected and changed afterwards and incorrect information may lead to cancellation of candidature. Once submitted, a copy of the same is needed for future correspondences.

DU Aspirants, Keep this check-list handy before filling the Online Admission Form to avoid silly errors

New Delhi, Apr 10 () Delhi University (DU) is considering making its entire admission process online to minimise the students' visits to the varsity in view of the situation arising out of the coronavirus pandemic, according to officials. Although the university has put the registration process on hold due COVID-19, its admission branch is working towards strengthening the process. According to the officials, the varsity has begun the process of collecting information from colleges amid a likelihood that there will be a little time left for preparations after the lockdown ends. In a letter to principals of all DU colleges on April 9, Professor Shobha Bagai, Dean (Admissions) said, "There has been a conscious effort to minimise visits of the students for physical verification of the mandatory documents during the admission process". "In the current scenario, it has been recommended that it becomes more imperative to have the complete admission process online, which also includes the online verification of the certificates," the letter said. Bagai also asked the colleges to upload necessary information on their websites and send the link to the admission branch. In the letter, she also directed the colleges to constitute a "strong" admission team for the process. "A team of reasonable number of student volunteers along with a Faculty Mentor be formed. The student volunteers must remain available during the time of admission to answer any related query pertaining to the admissions in the college," the letter said. DU had implemented the first phase of 10 per cent expansion in EWS (Economically Weaker Section) seats in 2019-20 and the remaining 15 per cent enhancement will be completed in 2020-21 academic session, according to the letter. The colleges have been requested to declare the seats in each course, category-wise on their websites. "With respect to certain course-wise combination of subjects, if there were any additional eligibility criteria, the same must be communicated to the admission branch by April 13," the letter said. The colleges have been given a deadline of April 30 for furnishing the remaining information. SLB CK

COVID-19 effect: DU mulls to make entire admission process online

As the results for class 10th and 12th for Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE) and other state boards including Punjab board, Andhra Pradesh Board have been declared, college admissions are the next thing on the minds of students. While this year, the official schedule for registrations in the University of Delhi(DU) has not been announced yet, it is speculated that the registrations will start from 20 May, <a href="https://scroll.in/announcements/922290/du-expected-to-start-admission-process-on-may-20th-cut-off-marks-likely-to-increase">according to</a> media reports. According to the tentative schedule, “the process will go on till May 31,” the Standing Committee of Academic Council reportedly said. The first cut-off list for the upcoming academic session (2019-2021) will be announced on 14 June, it added. The students need to fill and submit the forms before the last date, the colleges will release the cut off for different categories according to the number of seats left in a particular course. The admission for the 2019-2021 batch will enroll students for nearly 56,000 seats for the under-graduate courses. While, for the PG courses, the university has offered around 9,500 seats. Stepping up the efforts, the University of Delhi is considering one percent relaxation for the students from government-run and rural schools. The data of the online book examination shows that less than half of the students have appeared. “End date of physical examination to be placed on record by DU,” ruled the High Court. Highlights of the hearing — <ul><li>The High Court has also directed DU to verify the total number of students with disabilities (PWD students) who would appear for physical examination and can “work out the modalities of their stay.” </li><li>Delhi University will create an email ID to allow students ``to make requests pertaining to issuance of a "request letter" on behalf of DU to foreign universities on delay in declaration of result.” The court has directed DU to create these email IDs within a week and publish them on the official website. </li><li>The High Court also ruled that DU will digitally forward the marksheets of fifth semester law students. </li><li>Delhi High court orders University Grants Commission to issue an advisory against post-graduate colleges seeking provisional certificates for admission before the exams are completed on September 30. </li><li>Delhi University will also record data on answer sheets received through email mode, ruled Court. </li></ul>The court heard the petitions challenging DU's decision to hold online Open Book Examinations (OBE), as per the UGC guidelines, for final year undergraduate courses which will be in long-form exams. DU was supposed to hold final year undergraduate online OBE from August 10-31 and the students who will be left out of online exams were to be given an opportunity to appear in physical examinations, to be held sometime in September. Last week, Delhi High Court granted a week’s time to the visually impaired student to ask the university for study material. Further, the HC also ordered DU to provide provision admission to students in its post-graduation courses through entrance examination. Delhi University to hold physical examination from September 14, rules High Court

Delhi's Seelampur Basti could not stop rejoicing when 14 children who grew up here were abe to make their way to the prestigious <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> by the time the second cut-off list was out. 
 
14 students, 12 of whom are girls, have secured admission in popular North campus colleges out of the 78 students who appeared for class XII examination from Seelampur slum area. 
 The highest scorer Saugatha has managed to secure a seat in Urdu Honours in <keyword id="117655" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kirori-Mal-College">Kirori Mal College</keyword> at 86.5 per cent. Her father is a street vendor. 
 
Even as the credit goes to these hard working students who have made their basti proud, significant efforts by an NGO called Asha in educating the slum children and helping them achieve higher education, has been instrumental in helping such bright kids enter Delhi University year-on-year. 
 
Last year, a whopping 114 students guided by this NGO had made the cut. Sandeep, with 94% marks, got the highest score in this group in 2015. He lived in a slum in north Delhi’s Peeragarhi and managed to secure a seat in Rajdhani College for B.Com (Hons). The year before, in 2014, least 150 slum kids got admission in DU. 
 
For these students, the main difficulty was not just to get resources to study, but a larger battle of convincing parents to allow them to pursue education as against using them to start earning and contributing to the family income. For Asha the NGO, there have been such challenges of counseling the family, especially that of girls, before they can start educating and preparing the kid for exams. Their help then extends to dressing them up with new clothes, planning their travel, helping them fill college admission forms, get educational loans for those who wish to study in private colleges. 
 
Since 2008, Asha has been helping students from the slums to go to university. In the first batch, 20 students had got admission in DU and the numbers have been increasing since then. Although this year the students qualifying to DU are less than last year, its too early to say because three cut-off lists are still awaited.

The portal is now active on the official UGC site trying to give an impetus to colleges to become autonomous, should they choose to do so. However, these colleges will be affiliated to a university, TOI reported. In a notification, the UGC said it is inviting applications to colleges that want to pull away and be their own thing. This means that the colleges will now be able to roll out their own course structure, admissions, student fees and academic faculty staff. Moreover, the <keyword id="156640" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Autonomous-colleges">autonomous colleges</keyword> will also enjoy the liberty to announce results and issue marksheets as a separate entity. The move may affect students who are planning to enroll in several courses under Delhi University. Back in 2016, UGC had<a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/delhi/six-autonomous-colleges-du-marches-ahead/"> floated guidelines</a> for autonomous colleges, encouraging colleges to apply. Given that, Delhi University had pushed colleges to become autonomous institutions. However, this step towards privatisation was largely opposed by students and teachers, finding the move ‘disastrous.’ According to media reports, this may also lead to lack of fund support from the government as the colleges will only pay for courses they can afford. The application form has been issued on the official website of University Grants Commission (UGC).

New Delhi, Jun 24 () Exams for final year students in universities and higher education institutions which were to be held in July are likely to be cancelled in view of the spike in COVID-19 cases, and the commencement of the new session is likely to be deferred to October, according to officials. Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' has asked the University Grants Commission (UGC) to revisit the guidelines issued earlier for intermediate and terminal semester examination, and the academic calendar. According to officials, a panel, set up by UGC and headed by Haryana University vice-chancellor R C Kuhad, has been asked to revisit the guidelines and come up with alternative options. The revised guidelines are expected to be announced by the higher education regulator within a week's time. "The ministry has made it clear that the foundation for revisited guidelines shall be the health and safety of students, teachers staff. The expert committee is of the view that the examinations due in July in most universities as per the revised academic calendar be cancelled and marks for final examination be awarded based on the past performance of each student. "Students who are not happy with the final marks being given to them based on previous examinations, can be given a chance to improvise their scores by taking examinations later when the pandemic subsides," a senior official said. "Similarly, the commencement of the new academic session, which was earlier planned for already enrolled students from August and freshers from September, is also likely to be deferred to October. The deliberations are on and final guidelines in this regard will be announced soon. However, any guidelines framed will be subject to review depending upon the COVID-19 situation," the official added. Universities and schools across the country have been closed since March 16 when the central government announced a countrywide classroom shutdown as one of the measures to contain the COVID-19 outbreak. A nationwide lockdown was announced on March 24, which came into effect the next day. While the government has eased several restrictions, schools and colleges continue to remain closed. The UGC had in April formed two committees to deliberate on issues arising due to the lockdown to avoid academic loss and take appropriate measures for the future of students. One of the committees, led by Haryana University Vice-Chancellor R C Kuhad, was tasked with looking into ways of conducting exams in universities amid the lockdown and work on an alternate academic calendar. The second committee, formed to suggest measures to improve online education, was led by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Vice-Chancellor Nageshwar Rao. Based on the recommendations of the two panels, the HRD Ministry had on April 29 announced the guidelines recommending the exams for final semester students be conducted in July. The commission had said that the universities may decide whether to conduct exams online or offline keeping in view the support system available with them and ensuring a fair opportunity to all students. The UGC had recommended that intermediate semester students may either be evaluated on the basis of internal assessment or in states where the COVID-19 situation has normalised, exams be conducted in July only. The commission had also said the new academic session for freshers may begin in universities from September and for already enrolled students in August while the admission process may begin in universities from August 1. However, due to spike in coronavirus cases, various states recommended cancellation of final year exams. A few states like Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have already announced their plans in this regard. The cancellation is also likely to put to rest the standoff between DU administration and students and a section of teachers over the university's decision to conduct Open Book Examination (OBE) online for final year students.
