For menswear, one highlight is the brand's limited-edition shirt with a "year of the horse" crest.</p>

We're Going To Be Seeing A Lot Of Horse-Themed Luxury Goods This Year

The Islamic State, or ISIS, has been taking down swaths of territory in northern Iraq and Syria in recent weeks. Between taking the city of Mosul, targeting the Yazidis (an ethno-religious minority in Iraq), and battling the Kurdish peshmerga, ISIS has moved increasingly towards Kurdistan, the de facto state of northern Iraq's Kurds.

<p class="p1">
	Amid the chaos, U.S. officials and northern Iraqis have fled to Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan. President Obama <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/obama-speech-2014-8">authorized military strikes against ISIS should they threaten Erbil</a>.</p>
<p class="p1">
	With a population of 1.5 million, Erbil is the largest city in Kurdistan. It is also one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, with life in the city dating as far back 6000 BC.</p>
<p class="p1">
	Since the winding down of the Iraq War, Erbil has become a hub for development, leading some to question <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2010/may/05/kurdistan-next-dubai-iraq">whether it could become the next Dubai.</a></p>

	We gathered some photos of the progressive city that ISIS has in its sights.</p>

	This is where Erbil is located on the map. It is far north of Baghdad, but just 55 miles from ISIS-controlled Mosul.</h3>

	Erbil is very liberal city, compared with the rest of the Middle East. As Kurdistan is both largely secular and religiously diverse, Erbil <a href="http://www.kurdishglobe.net/article/3CE2C8BCDF21143E66E97D4F83E36F0E/-The-Other-Iraq-enjoys-a-bustling-nightlife.html">has a busy nightlife scene, with dozens of bars, liquor stores, clubs, and restaurants</a> opening in the last 10 years. Many consider its busy nightlife scene to be rivaled only by Dubai and Beirut in the Middle East.</h3>

This is downtown Erbil, the main hub of development in the city. In 2013, Dubai's Emaar Properties announced that <a href="http://www.thenational.ae/business/industry-insights/property/erbil-now-the-place-to-build-new-hope">it was investing $3 billion into downtown Erbil</a>. The proposed investment would go towards building houses, apartments, offices, hotels, and parks.

Erbil's major tourist attraction is the Citadel, the historical city center of Erbil. It was been inhabited since the 5000 BC and has been a major cultural center numerous different cultures. It <a href="http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1437">is a UNESCO Heritage site</a>.

This is what it looks like closer up. The Citadel is located on a mound that archaeologists think conceals the remains of ancient cultures. It features a continuous wall with 19th century facades, giving it the look of a fortress.

There is a wealth of development at the base of the Citadel. Shar Park features numerous fountains, brick arcades, and a clock tower. It also features numerous cafes and teashops.

The Mudhafaria Minaret is nearly 120 feet tall. It is all that remains of a massive mosque built in the 1100s.

The Quaysari Bazaar in Erbil <a href="http://www.lonelyplanet.com/iraq/erbil/sights/markets-bazaars/qaysari-bazaar">is one of the oldest in the world</a>. It wraps around the entire southern half of the Citadel.

Like other economic hubs in the Middle East, Erbil has recently begun opening mega-malls. The Family Mall Erbil <a href="http://www.familymallarbil.com/">opened in 2010 with over 100 retail stores</a> that carry major Western brands like Zara, DKNY, Rolex, Armani, and Levi's. <p>Though it may not feel like it <em>quite</em> yet, it's officially spring - that means it's time to talk about men's spring fashions.</p>
<p>The majority of men's New York Fashion Week collections were preppy and athletic, with lots of printed pants, jackets, and suits.</p>
<p>Check out the top seven trends to watch out for this season.</p>
<h3>1. Double-Breasted Blazers</h3>

<p><strong>How To Wear Them:</strong> All-white suit combos were popular at a wide range of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week shows, including the edgy Diesel Black Gold, the eccentric Billy Reid, and the preppy Black Sheep by Brooks Brothers collections.</p>
<p>The trick with wearing all white is to make sure textures contrast to keep it from becoming tacky: a white cotton shirt looks good with a linen suit, a white t-shirt balances out a silk jacket, etc.</p>
<h3>5. High-Rise or Rolled Pants</h3>

<p><strong>How To Wear Them:</strong> By far the biggest trend from New York Fashion Week was men's bomber jackets. Whether they're leather, color-blocked, wool, or athletic, these jackets go with everything.</p>
<p>When you go shopping for one, make sure the sleeves don't hang past your upper wrist, and that the coat has a slim silhouette to keep it from looking too much like a bulky Letterman jacket.</p>

7 Hot Men's Fashion Trends You'll See This Spring

<p>While the fashion world is already looking ahead to Spring 2015, we're here to prepare you for Fall 2014.</p>
<p>The majority of fall menswear collections that were shown at New York Fashion Week last spring had muted color palettes and resurrected past trends, from puffy jackets to fair isle prints. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jogger-pants-are-taking-over-menswear-2014-8">Sweatpants</a> even made their way onto the runway.</p>
<p>Here are eight trends to watch out for this season.</p>
<h3>Down-Filled, Quilted Jackets</h3>

Top designers like Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, and Calvin Klein sent iterations of the down-filled jacket down the runway.</p>
<p>Try to choose a style that is as streamlined as possible so you don't look like a marshmallow (or time traveler from the early aughts), and pair it with slim-fitting jeans and sneakers. </p>
<p>Because it's a sporty look, avoid wearing this style of jacket with suits or fancier attire.</p>
<h3>Shearling Jackets </h3>

<p>While we saw a lot of these on the runway, no other designer was quite as into the shearling look as Belstaff, a brand from designer Martin Cooper that is popular in the motorcycle competition world. </p>
<p>The look is rugged and manly, but also best relegated to your weekend wear or worn on a chilly weekend getaway.</p>
<h3>Flannel </h3>

<p>It's a versatile material that looks good whether it's on shirts, outerwear, or cold-weather accessories. The more flannel the better this fall.</p>
<h3>Big, Boxy Bags</h3>

The runways were chock full of large duffel bags - approximately carry-on sized - being held by models for Bally, Bottega Veneta, Brioni, Burberry, and Gieves &amp; Hawkes.</p>
<p>Whether you're going to the gym or on a business trip, these bags are smart accessories. Pick one that's neither too small nor too big, and opt for a leather version instead of canvas since it will last longer and be more versatile.</p>
<h3>Patterned Knits</h3>

<p><a href="http://www.mbfashionweek.com/">New York Fashion Week</a> coverage tends to focus on the ladies, but men's fashion is a big deal on the runways, too.</p>
<p>The majority of men's collections shown this year were athletic and preppy. There were also a lot of printed pants, jackets, and suits in the mix, hinting that men's style is going to get more flashy in 2014.</p>
<p>The one trend we couldn't stand? All of the baggy pants at <a href="http://www.mbfashionweek.com/photos_and_videos">Michael Kors</a> and - to a lesser extent - <a href="http://www.mbfashionweek.com/designers/marc_by_marc_jacobs">Marc Jacobs</a>. Tailoring should always be in style.</p>

<p>The trick with wearing all white is to make sure textures contrast to keep it from becoming tacky. A white cotton shirt looks good with a linen suit, a white t-shirt balances out a silk jacket, etc.</p>

7 Hot Men's Trends Straight From The Runways Of New York Fashion Week

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Brands who want to find fashion-obsessed millennials should look no farther than VFILES, the fashion social-network-cum-retail-space that relaunched today with mobile-friendly design and more capability for users to connect.</span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>Since being founded in September 2012, VFILES was a place where fashion insiders and wannabes could follow each other's profiles and also shop, like Pinterest with an ecommerce component. </span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>With today's update, VFILES will enable users to comment on each other's posts, @ mention each other like they do on Twitter and Instagram, and shop from their phones.</span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span><span>"What makes fashion social media different [from mainstream social media] is fashion people like to do specific things," Quay said. "Yes, we do like to shop. We want to be able to buy things. We want to be entertained. We want to see what's going on in our little world."</span></span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><br /></span></span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The site has 85,000 registered users, which seems paltry compared to larger networks like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. But because of VFILES' niche focus on upstart fashion professionals and the people who want to follow them, the network's reach is much more targeted to a specific customer. For example, 90 percent of users are under 35.</span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Also, users who shop on VFILES spend an average of $175 to $200 per transaction, according to the company.</span></p><p class="embed-spacer"><span>The site's 85,000 registered users are all actively interested in fashion, and their activity results in 18 million monthly social media impressions with 1.5 million pageviews per month. &#xa0;</span></p><p>The site hosts 4,500+ young designers; 3,000+ models; 7,000+ stylists, hair and makeup artists, and creative directors; 4,000+ photographers; and 4,000+ DJs and producers. The remaining 62,000 users are "highly engaged fashion enthusiasts and professionals," according to the company.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">VFILES functions through a series of interconnected profiles, or content hubs, from models, designers, artists and more. Users are free to search hashtags and usernames in order to find the content they want to see. There's also a shopping tag where users can buy or sell their work. The site's focus on community and trendsetting <a href="http://www.complex.com/style/2015/04/vfiles-julie-ann-quay-interview-complex-april-may-2015">led it to birth the healthgoth and normcore trends.</a>&#xa0;</span></p><p>The first brand to be offered for sale on VFILES was Hood By Air, the New York upstart whose founders <a href="http://www.graziadaily.co.uk/2015/04/dkny-appoint-dao-yi-chow-and-maxwell-osborne-as-creative-directors#.VUpmp9NViko">were just named creative directors of DKNY</a> - a stamp of approval that means they've truly arrived as fashion industry mainstays and don't need to worry about losing their status as the hot new thing anymore.</p><p>Quay says some VFILES users have been noticed by modeling agents thanks to their presence on the platform. Designers' entire outfits are snapped up by the likes of Kanye West and Rihanna, who are always looking for something new and can find it on VFILES.&#xa0;<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Below, Rihanna wears a T-shirt by VFILES designer Hyein Seo.</span></p><div><div></div></div><p class="embed-spacer"><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The startup also recently <a href="http://wwd.com/fashion-news/fashion-scoops/vfiles-opens-soho-showroom-8227647/">opened a flagship store in downtown New York City</a>. They also host a fashion show each New York Fashion Week. Users compete on the platform for the chance to show a collection of their own designs at the </span><a href="http://www.style.com/fashion-shows/fall-2015-ready-to-wear/vfiles">VFILES Made Fashion show</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">.</span></p><div><div></div></div><p class="embed-spacer">One of Quay's main goals is to "take the stodgy feeling out of fashion."</p><p class="embed-spacer">"Look at the Met Ball," she said. "Everything is about, 'Oh, are you going?' And it's arrogant in a way, because it's like, 'You can't come.' And it says all the wrong things about fashion."</p><p class="embed-spacer">"VFILES becomes a place where you can communicate with others, communicate with fashion or pop culture at large," Quay said. "You can be part of a movement and it sounds really corny, but that's what life is about right now. It's about identifying with something and being a part of it."</p><p class="embed-spacer">The company also works with established brands, promoting campaigns or products within the community while collecting revenue from these partnerships. They recently worked with Aldo on promoting an AIDS campaign, and Calvin Klein is a mentor in their Fashion Week program. They've also partnered with Aveda, Oribe, Nordstrom, Harvey Nichols, Red Bull, Perrier and more.</p><p class="embed-spacer"></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p class="embed-spacer">Revenue for VFILES also comes from their shop in New York City, and their wholesale business providing product from their designers to more than 30 retailers globally, Quay said. The startup is self-funded now, but actively fundraising for the first time.</p><p class="embed-spacer">The startup also has a music incubator program known as VFILES Loud, which launched in 2014. They were one of the first to feature iLoveMakonnen with a live performance. The artist collaborated with Drake around the same time and was later nominated for a Grammy for his first single.</p><p class="embed-spacer">Next, VFILES will focus on making it possible for users to shop directly from uploaded photos. This would be a boon to the startup, as many in the fashion industry have complained that Instagram (the industry's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/anna-wintour-and-katie-grand-on-instagram-2015-5">hands-down favorite app</a>) would be much more useful to brands if it had external links or links that enabled people to shop others' accounts.</p><p class="embed-spacer">"Fashion brands right now are trying to work out where we fit into their life cycle," Quay said.
