<p>In fact, he wasn't totally convinced that colors actually existed.</p>
<p>But now, Harbisson can sense color.</p>
<p>He still can't see colors. But now he can hear them with a device he helped create in 2004 called the Eyeborg.</p>
<p>The device c<span>an detect 360 colors the human eye can normally perceive. It also detects infrared light.</span></p>
<p>"Hearing colors changes the way you see everything," Harbisson says in a <a href="http://vimeo.com/51920182">Cyborg Foundation video</a>. </p>
<p>Harbisson says he finds the sounds generated by colors in supermarkets "stimulating."</p>
<p>He also turns music, like Justin Bieber's "Baby," for example, into vibrant paintings—translating the sounds of the song back into the colors he's learned to associate with them. </p>
<p>Harbisson says that he is the first legally recognized <keyword id="1079277" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cyborg">cyborg</keyword> in the world, as his passport photo shows him with the Eyeborg attached to his head. </p>
<p><span style="font-size: 13px; line-height: 1.5em;">"It's not the union between the Eyeborg and my head what converts me to a cyborg," Harbisson says. It's "the union between the software and my brain. My body and technology have united."</span></p>

Color-Blind Man Is Now A Cyborg Who Can Hear Color

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>A lot was going on during the week of March 22, 2004.</p><p>"Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed" was the No. 1 movie in the US. "Yeah!" by Usher, featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris, was at the top of the music charts.</p><p>And 21-year-old Neil Harbisson was getting a metal antenna surgically implanted into his skull.</p><p>A total of 4,189 days have passed since that surgery, and not a single one has gone by that Neil, now 32, hasn't spoken to at least one person on the street about the long, curved cable that slopes over his head. Sometimes it's a rude comment strangers spit at him, Neil told me recently. Sometimes they're genuinely curious.</p><p>That has to be exhausting, I say.</p><p>"Yes," he&#xa0;sighs. "But I have to get used to it."</p><p>There is a name for people like Neil, who are part human and part machine.</p><p>Neil is a cyborg.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">As a cyborg, Neil is one of an uncounted, though growing, population of people who hope to extend the paltry five senses we humans are gifted at birth. </span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Generally speaking, cyborgs&#xa0;want to experience a heightened reality. Some put <a href="http://www.popsci.com/swedish-company-puts-rfid-chips-employees">microchips under their skin</a> to replace lock-and-key entries of their homes and cars. <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/07/tech/brain-memory-implants-humans/">Others use brain stimulation</a> to improve their focus.&#xa0;</span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Neil, a British-born, Catalan-raised musician and activist&#xa0;who now lives in New York City, has decided his antenna - known as an Eyeborg - will be his ticket to higher planes.&#xa0;</span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Once simply a tool to help him overcome his congenital color blindness, the antenna has been upgraded over time.&#xa0;The camera on the end picks up nearby colors and converts the light waves into corresponding sound waves, whose frequencies Neil has memorized. </span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Neil still can't <em>see</em> color, but he says the antenna lets him hear and feel it.</span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The most recent upgrade came in 2013, when Neil's sensor got rewired to pick up Bluetooth. Now that he has an internet connection, Neil can sync the sensor with external devices in the same way a smartphone can play&#xa0;music wirelessly through a speaker. He&#xa0;says this enables him to&#xa0;receive color from other parts of the world - or completely outside it.&#xa0;</span></p><p>"There's someone in Australia now that could use his phone and send live images of the sunrise to my head. I'd be talking to you now, but I'd be perceiving a sunrise," Neil says. "With my mobile phone I can connect to NASA's International Space Station and perceive the colors live from space."</p><p>Since I am completely unable to conceptualize that idea, I ask Neil to try and clarify what he means by "perceive."</p><p>"To me, color is not visual," he says. "Color is an inner perception. Depending on the combinations of colors, I imagine something visual. So if I hear specific hues that sound very similar to a supermarket, then I suddenly feel that I'm in a supermarket. Or if someone sends the colors of a sunrise, I can imagine and visualize the sunrise because it has a very specific sound."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Mastering that skill is proving tricky.<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">"It's overwhelming" he explains. "I have to get used to hearing color permanently, even when I sleep, since the colors from space never stop. I have to get used to that, and I think it will take around two years."</span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>Once he has that under his belt, he plans to install&#xa0;</span><a href="http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2011-05/installing-tiny-turbine-bloodstream-could-power-implanted-medical-devices-indefinitely">small turbines in his blood vessels</a><span>&#xa0;so that he can charge the antenna with the energy produced by his own body.</span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>"The sensor has its own evolution," he says.</span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>In the past that has made traveling around the world quiet the hassle.</span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>"In airports it can be a bit stressful because they don't like technology," he tells me. "So if you <em>are</em> technology, then they don't like you."</span></span></p><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>Living in New York City leaves&#xa0;Neil with no shortage of social encounters.</span></span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>&#xa0;People lob insults from across the street, while kids rush up wide-eyed.&#xa0;</span></span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>Quiet&#xa0;social gatherings suddenly find new life whenever Neil walks in the room. Even if the guy with the antenna isn't talking about it, someone else probably is.</span></span></p><p>And right now, that's what Neil wants: a conversation.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">In 2010, Neil co-founded the <a href="http://cyborgism.wix.com/cyborg">Cyborg Foundation</a> with fellow cyborg <a href="http://cyborgism.wix.com/cyborg">Moon Ribas</a>. Moon has a seismic sensor implanted in her elbow that connects to online seismographs. Whenever an earthquake strikes around the world, a vibration lets Moon know.</span><p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Neil admits the Cyborg Foundation's stated goals - of helping people become cyborgs, defending cyborg rights, and promoting cyborgism as an art movement - are still in their infancy.</span></p><p>"Interest is not enough," he says. "What we need are people willing to become cyborgs."</p><p>But Neil is anything but pessimistic. Disruptive technology always makes people uneasy.</p><p>In 1551, Swiss scientist Conrad Gessner <a href="https://ceb.nlm.nih.gov/proj/ttp/flash/gesner/gesner.html">panicked</a> that humanity would suffocate beneath the information overload brought on by the printing press. In his 1909 book <a href="https://books.google.com/books?id=S3_s8UCXKUcC&amp;printsec=frontcover&amp;dq=Are+the+Dead+Alive?&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ei=hBGjU-T9GYX5oASo3YHoBA&amp;ved=0CCQQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&amp;q=Are%20the%20Dead%20Alive%3F&amp;f=false">"Are the Dead Alive?"</a> author Fremont Rider questioned whether the voices people were hearing over the phone were actually ghosts. And only until recently, if you used a hands-free device to talk on the phone you were considered a weirdo. (Some still hold that opinion.)</p><p>There's further evidence of early adopters. Futurist Zoltan Istvan is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/futurist-presidential-candidate-zoltan-istvan-is-driving-a-giant-coffin-across-america-to-defeat-death-and-win-the-white-house-2015-7">running for president</a> as a member of the transhumanist party, and he plans on dropping a "cyborg bill of rights" off at the White House. He told Tech Insider that a key element of his platform is "morphological freedom": As in, you should be able to modify your body in any way, so long as it doesn't hurt anybody, as Neil is doing.&#xa0;</p><p>By the late 2020s, Neil expects that cyborgs like him will be in great company.</p><p>"I will be able to walk out in the street, and it will be normal," he says. "Just as it'll be normal to see someone else with a new body part."</p><p><div></div></p><p>That transition may already be afoot with the advent of wearable technology. Even 10 years ago, if you wanted to keep track of how many miles you'd run that day or how many calories you'd consumed, you needed separate devices and the time to tabulate it all. Now you can store that information in your phone, watch, bracelet, tablet, or computer and have the data available immediately.</p><p><strong>"The next stage of wearable technology will be biologically united with us," Neil says.</strong> The internet won't just be this ethereal force that disappears once we put our devices to sleep. It'll be a direct extension of our existing senses.&#xa0;</p><p>To the uninitiated, that idea could sound totally frivolous. Surely the world is awesome on its own, and tinkering needlessly with what comes stock in the human body is both risky and a waste of time. Neil freely admits, for example, that he doesn't want to live forever - <a href="http://www.techinsider.io/how-immortality-and-life-extension-research-could-help-the-world-2015-8">a common goal of the future-obsessed.</a></p><p>The deeper truth is that Neil's goal of advancing his senses is couched <em>directly</em> in his mortality. He knows he'll die. He just refuses to accept the limits of human perception as it's currently presented.</p><p>"Anything you've already seen or heard - if you add a new sense, suddenly reality becomes new," he says. This Real-Life Cyborg Has An Antenna Implanted Into His Skull

<p class="drop-cap">I made a lot of questionable purchases as a teenage gadget geek in the 1990s, but the one that made my parents most regret giving me a credit card was the Sony Glasstron. The flimsy head-mounted display (which offered the "stunning" clarity of 800 x 600 pixels), the attached earbuds, and the video cable tether were all mine for the low, low price of $2,599 in 1999 dollars — or nearly $5K today. When the device arrived, delight turned to disappointment, and it was quickly returned. But my obsession with portable displays never went away. To me, it felt inevitable that we were on an evolutionary path toward perfect human-machine interfaces, erasing the separation between the infinite creativity of digital spaces and the limitations of our physical world.</p><p>So when the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/apple-vision-pro-review">Apple Vision Pro</a> arrived, I was giddy with excitement to dive into the type of toy I'd dreamt of since childhood. The long-delayed promise of augmented reality was finally here. But almost as soon as I strapped on these cyborg ski goggles, I wanted to throw them against the wall. Not only was I frustrated, I was terrified. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-vision-pro-returns-set-up-confusion-analyst-2024-2">Apple's nearly $4,000</a> gimmick may be a bit of a flop for the company. But for the rest of us, it's an extremely alarming harbinger of how tech giants are going to know even more about our private lives and radically reshape our communities once again.</p><p>The Vision Pro tries to answer the question of how you can use a computer without a mouse or keyboard. It answers it poorly. When you mount Apple's personal panopticon to your face, an augmented-reality interface appears, using a dozen cameras to map out your environment. It films everything around you, every piece of furniture, every scrap of paper — Post-it notes, bank statements, health-insurance bills — even your choice of recreational beverage to show you a grainy, digitized copy of your world on a screen. It's like seeing a funhouse version of your home, only with lots of apps layered on top.</p><p>My personal laptop doesn't see the handwritten notes I leave loved ones or the passwords I type into other devices. My work computer's webcam sees only the one highly stage-managed corner of my life I show it, the wall of books and awards carefully crafted with the hope my background could one day earn a score on Room Rater. Within seconds the Vision Pro had photographed more of my apartment and body than my laptop saw over the decade I've had it.</p><p>Just setting up the headset turned into a nauseating ordeal. Want to navigate an app? Use your hand to click and zoom. This felt amazing the first time I tried it, but clicking and zooming is no way to type. I can only imagine how it would have looked to someone in my living room, as I tried to hunt and peck letters on a simulated keyboard, constantly cursing in irritation. As I flailed at the imaginary keyboard, it became clear just how little thought Apple gave to one of the most important features of digital life: passwords.</p><p>Apple built this with only the die-hard Apple users in mind, especially those who have stored all of their data in Apple's iCloud. For those of us who don't exclusively use an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook, or who try to protect our privacy with tools outside the Appleverse, this product clearly wasn't for us. That Appleverse lock-in effect, building products to work well with each other and badly with everyone else, isn't a small oversight. In fact, this is at the core of a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-antitrust-lawsuit-justice-department-2024-3">massive new antitrust lawsuit</a> filed last week by the Department of Justice and 16 states, alleging that Apple weaponizes interoperability to maintain its iPhone monopoly. As a privacy professional, I practice what I preach on password security. After the fifth time I tried to peck out the randomized 20-character combination I used for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/disney-plus-password-sharing-crackdown-2024-2">Disney+</a>, I was so filled with sickness and rage I needed a break. As a friend who tried my headset remarked, "It gave me the nausea of a roller coaster without any of the thrill."</p><p>What a major fall from grace for the Cupertino colossus.</p><p>Apple built its brand on sleek seamlessness, making complex tech that normally scares off most users into beautiful, easy-to-use products. The iPod wasn't the first MP3 player by a long shot, but Jony Ive's smooth design is what made MP3 players as a category leap from niche product to ubiquity of modern life.</p><p>Apple's white EarPods, and later its wireless AirPods, quickly leapt from subtle status symbol to de rigueur way to walk outside and ride public transit. Every city today is full of people listening to siloed content, using technology to live parallel, nonintersecting lives, even in crowded spaces. This may seem pedestrian today, but it's nothing short of a remaking of the city soundscape and public spaces.</p>          <p>In 1990s New York, I grew up in a city that shared the same sounds. We overheard conversations and audibly interacted with the strangers around us, and even when we did have music — usually a boombox blasting by — it never fully muffled out the world around us. </p><p>This is what makes augmented reality like the Vision Pro so powerful, and so scary. It and its many successors to come are poised to do to our visual world what noise-canceling headphones and MP3 players did to our auditory realm. Soon, whether sitting in the park, on a plane, or in a waiting room, more and more of the people around you won't see you, won't be aware of you. They'll be steeped in a visual playground only they can see. Apple Vision Pro marks the foundation of a new architecture of total digital <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/loneliness-epidemic-decline-in-third-places-friends-parks-community-2023-9">isolation</a>.</p><p class="drop-cap">I felt that isolation even before I bought the device. Watching a dazzling demo while wearing a display set in the middle of the Apple Store, I was shepherded through photos and 3D movies that suddenly spooled out around me in an effect that was truly transporting. Perhaps the most thrilling part was the moment I adjusted the simulated environment around me. In one movement, the crowded store faded, and a white sand dune came into view, the noise around me faded as I could hear the mock wind. It felt like the first time I had turned on noise-canceling headphones, that magical feeling of an invisible shell cloaking me from the outside world. But the first red flag came a few minutes later when the serenity was interrupted by the voice of an Apple employee, asking a man nearby whether he knew me and the other people testing the Vision Pro, a man who had been filming all of us without our consent. A man I never saw. After a brief argument, their voices faded, but it was a jarring reminder that while I might not have been able to see the world around me, it could still see me, and blinding myself to reality came at a cost.</p><p>This isolation was supposed to be part of what set Vision Pro apart, turning the opaque <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/meta-headset-inception-attacks-trap-users-fake-environment-study-2024-3">barriers of traditional VR</a> — which show a wholly simulated environment — into a translucent membrane that allowed us to sit in both places at once. Once I put on the headset at home, however, that image faded. That first night, I gave up any hope that this device was truly compatible with the real world around it.</p><p>I also quickly found Vision Pro's greatest weakness: walking. With my first step I saw the simulated version of my apartment shutter and shake, accelerating the growing motion sickness I felt when seated. From typing, to the two-hour battery life, to motion blurring, and an array of other malfunctions, it became clear that Apple really hadn't worked out so many of the basics we'd need to make this a serious device, not just a toy. But it's a toy that cost billions to build, and which highlights the path <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/doj-apple-monopoly-claim-laughable-walt-mossberg-threads-2024-3">Apple</a> plans all of us to take in the years ahead.</p><p>This is the part that scares me most, the design philosophy of computing we see seeping into the next generation of devices. The earliest computers were open sandboxes of creativity, where users could tinker and tweak settings to their heart's desire. But later generations of devices, especially smartphones and tablets, are increasingly walled gardens where we're allowed to wander only within narrow, predetermined parameters. The Vision Pro could never replace a desktop or laptop, but it's a looming successor for the iPad, a simulacrum of a computer giving users just enough power to think they're in control, while more and more locking down the tools that wonks like me use to take ownership of our digital life.</p>          <p>For me, this means having to pay a hefty monthly iCloud fee just to access my files. In Apple's vision of the future there is no local storage, no local control, only the company's cloud. And I found countless features failed the moment I took the most rudimentary security precautions, such as using a VPN. Apple touted your ability to use the Apple Vision Pro to connect to your laptop, simulating a screen for your device. But no matter how much I tried, I never found a comfortable way to even write a Microsoft Word document or email while strapped in. When I connected my MacBook to use the display, the lagging cursor constantly threw me off, every disorienting keystroke delayed before it appeared on my simulated screen. Even when I bought a Bluetooth keyboard, I was still able to type out only a couple of short paragraphs before the eye strain became overpowering.</p><p>Vision Pro isn't for creating content. It isn't for interacting with the world. It isn't even for walking around your own apartment. At best, at its core, it's yet another way for us to zone out and watch ever higher and higher definition TV and movies. I've never in my adult life vegged out as much as I did during my time with the Vision Pro. The display made graphics-rich 3D movies better than they had ever looked in my home (where I don't actually have a TV). But as soon as I tried character dramas and off-beat comedies, the virtual theater felt suffocating, and profoundly isolating. This technology is uniquely able to cut us off, even when we're in a crowded space. I imagine a family gathered on the couch, each person watching their own show, completely siloed — it's tragic. If I actually wanted more screens in my life, I'd spend the $4,000 on a cutting-edge projector my friends and I could watch together.</p><p>In the end, I followed the path of so many other Vision Pro early adopters and became an early returner. We won't look back on Vision Pro as Apple's new <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-your-iphone-could-get-worse-doj-antitrust-lawsuit-2024-3">iPhone moment</a>. If anything, it's the spiritual successor to the Newton, the widely mocked 1990s PDA. But just like the Newton, this buggy beta test of a product launch also foreshadows technology trends just around the corner. Carr filmed a scene in his driveway as the iconic superhero. </p><p>"He's an amazing actor, an amazingly kind gentleman," Snyder told <a href="https://twitter.com/TheNerdQueens">the Nerd Queens</a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/wondermeg_">Wonder Meg</a> during the Saturday evening panel.</p><p>"I said, 'Look, there's a chance that this doesn't make it in the <keyword id="6356021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="movie">movie</keyword>," Snyder added, saying, "I'm not 100% sure he thought it was real, legit."</p><p>And that's exactly what happened. </p><h2>Carr's Green Lantern wasn't allowed in the final cut of "Zack Snyder's <keyword id="254726" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Justice-League">Justice League</keyword>"</h2><p>After about three years of fan rallying, HBO Max released the "Snyder cut" of 2017's "Justice League" on its streaming service on March 18. Though the film <a href="https://www.insider.com/harry-lennix-zack-snyder-justice-league-vision-diverse-heroes-2021-3">restores a few diverse roles</a>, including a trimmed-down Cyborg and Martian Manhunter, Snyder had planned on introducing a new Green Lantern.</p><p><keyword id="14846" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Warner-Bros-">Warner Bros.</keyword> wouldn't allow it.</p><p>"We did have a Green Lantern scene in the movie that the studio asked me to take out that I did also shoot here in the driveway with an amazing actor who was going to play John Stewart," Snyder told <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-tuoaVIh3k">Sean O'Connell, Jake Hamilton, and Kevin McCarthy of the ReelBlend podcast</a>.</p><p>"Then the studio, when they saw the movie, and they saw that I had done every single thing that they had asked me not to do, we had come to a bit of a loggerhead," Snyder added.</p><p>There are many iterations of the Green Lantern. He's awesome," Snyder said. </p><p>The director then looked at some of Carr's clips before calling him up on the phone a few times to talk about what the role might entail. </p><h2><strong>John Stewart would have appeared at the very end of 'Zack Snyder's Justice League' with another Green Lantern</strong></h2><p>Carr's Green Lantern would have appeared at the very end of "Zack Snyder's Justice League," meeting Bruce Wayne in place of Martian Manhunter.</p><div type="image" title="snyder cut justice league martian manhunter" height="1452" width="2374" msid="82125496" hostid="261"></div><p>"We had made him a CG suit and because it was COVID and we couldn't really do a real suit," Snyder said when asked whether or not a suit was made for Carr. "The mandate was to make it look as physical as possible."</p><p>The Green Lantern scene was supposed to play at the very end of the film. He was supposed to be one of two Green Lantern characters who Bruce Wayne interacted with, not the Martian Manhunter. (Snyder said at Justice Con the other Lantern would have been Kilowog.)</p><p>When the studio asked Snyder to remove Green Lantern, <a href="https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/amp35886906/zack-snyder-cut-justice-league-interview/">part of Snyder's compromise was to add more of Martian Manhunter into the movie</a>. He also got the <a href="https://www.insider.com/justice-league-snyder-cut-how-joker-scene-was-made-2021-3">Batman versus Joker scene</a>. </p><p>Both the extra Martian Manhunter and Joker scenes were filmed in Snyder's driveway and backyard, respectively.</p><h2>Fans already guessed that Carr was Snyder's Green Lantern</h2><p>On Saturday, Snyder confirmed what many fans had already surmised. </p><p>On April 1, production designer Jojo Aguilar revealed four pieces of concept art they worked on with Snyder for the film. Included in the artwork shared were images for Granny Goodness, Martian Manhunter, Joker, and Green Lantern. </p><p>From there, fans started theorizing Carr may have been the mystery person Snyder hired to play the role of John Stewart in his four-hour cut.</p><p>Not only did fans notice a resemblance between the two, but Carr joined Twitter shortly thereafter and <a href="https://twitter.com/WayneTCarr/status/1379290079877681154">tweeted in support of the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse movement</a>.</p><p>During Justice Con, Snyder said he was speaking with Carr the other day about the finished film.</p><p>"He loved the movie and he was super excited for everyone and the reception the film has gotten," Snyder said. Casual fans or people who didn't care or know much about the "Snyder cut" previously during efforts to bring the film to screen are now not only taking interest in the film, but are also interested in sequels.</p><p>The #RestoretheSnyderVerse movement is growing. Fans predict it will only continue to grow. </p><p>If WarnerMedia and HBO Max think they have satisfied a social media campaign, they may find in the coming weeks that they are mistaken.</p><div type="image" title="zack snyder justice league bts" height="2652" width="3976" msid="81640651" hostid="261"></div><p>"It sounds weird to say they wish to make fans happy, but will not even consider continuing [the] Snyderverse despite clearly massive demand and positive reception," Nana of "The <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT7oB1xxV5sUNR9s-tp0Tpw">Nerd Queens</a>," two longtime friends and members of the #ReleasetheSnyderCut campaign, told Insider via email. </p><p>Nana said WarnerMedia's decision to not carry forward with sequels makes them "want to push harder for the SnyderVerse to be restored."</p><p>Nana and Cole, who prefer to keep their last names private, are in the process of hosting a virtual fundraiser, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmbXef0QoqdIfcXUMj_DD7A">Justice Con 2021</a>, discussing the "Snyder cut" the weekend of April 16 with Zack and Deborah Snyder, Ray Fisher, and more. Their inaugural Justice Con, held last summer, raised around $7,000 for the <a href="https://afsp.org/">American Foundation For Suicide Prevention</a>. </p><p>Original plans for Snyder's three-part "Justice League" trilogy are currently <a href="https://www.dmagazine.com/arts-entertainment/2021/03/ahead-of-justice-league-release-att-opens-the-snydercut-in-downtown-dallas/">on display in an official exhibit in Dallas, Texas</a>. </p><p>Snyder's trilogy plan, teased in the past online, would have ended with Ben Affleck's older Bruce Wayne <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2021/03/zack-snynder-justice-league-ending-explained">sacrificing himself to save the world</a>. </p><p>If we never see Snyder's complete "Justice League" saga play out on screen maybe Snyder will team up with <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2021/03/zack-snynder-justice-league-ending-explained">DC's Jim Lee</a> to, at the very least, finish his original vision in a graphic novel or book.</p>

WarnerMedia exec says they have no plan to deliver sequels to 'Zack Snyder's Justice League'

The event brought together Snyder and some cast and crew of "Justice League" while raising awareness for the <a href="https://afsp.org/">American Foundation for Suicide Prevention</a>. </p><p>Snyder stepped down from "Justice League" in 2017 after the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/zack-snyder-steps-down-justice-league-deal-family-tragedy-1006455">death of his daughter by suicide</a>. His wife, Deborah, was a producer on the movie.</p><p>Fans rallied for Snyder's cut of the film for years using the hashtag <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ben-affleck-gal-gadot-call-justice-league-snyder-cut-release-2019-11">#ReleasetheSnyderCut</a>. Zack Snyder says his 'Justice League' won't incorporate any Joss Whedon footage: 'I would destroy the movie'

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Punit Paranjpe</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>Every now and then, a scientist comes along who is so dedicated to their work that they decide to experiment on themself.</p><p>Phil Kennedy is one of those scientists.</p><p>As MIT Technology Review's <a href="http://www.technologyreview.com/news/543246/to-study-the-brain-a-doctor-puts-himself-under-the-knife/">Adam Piore reported</a>, the neuroscientist who pioneered the technology used to connect the human brain to a computer decided to get his own brain implant in 2014.</p><p>Brain computer interfaces, or BCIs, are devices that record the the electrical activity of hundreds of brain cells and translate them into signals that can be used to control things like computers or robotic limbs.</p><p>Some BCIs are noninvasive, like electroencephalography (EEG) electrodes placed on the scalp. Others require surgery to implant them inside the brain, which allows them to pick up signals from individual neurons.</p><h2>The 'father of cyborgs'</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span> braingate2.org</span></p><p class="caption">This electrode array is part of a brain-computer interface similar to the one Kennedy used.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Kennedy, who has been called the "<a href="http://cltampa.com/tampa/the-father-of-cyborgs/Content?oid=2014709#.VkUUF9-rRhE">father of cyborgs</a>," is known for developing the first BCI to allow a completely paralyzed patient with "locked-in" syndrome to move a cursor on a computer screen. His goal since then has been to develop a "speech decoder" - a system that decodes the thoughts of these "locked-in" patients and converts them into speech. He founded a company called Neural Signals to pursue this work.</p><p>In 2008, a man who was unable to move or communicate got one of Kennedy's brain implants and <a href="http://www.nature.com/news/2008/081121/full/news.2008.1247.html">was able to communicate in vowel sounds</a> using a speech synthesizer. The implant consisted of a special kind of electrode that releases chemicals to encourage brain cells to grow onto it.</p><p>But in recent years, funding for this research has dried up. Kennedy realized that in order to continue the work, he would have to experiment on himself.</p><p>"This whole research effort of 29 years so far was going to die if I didn't do something," he told Tech Review. "I didn't want it to die on the vine. That is why I took the risk."</p><h2>A risky procedure</h2><p>In June 2014, Kennedy flew to Belize and paid surgeons $25,000 to implant electrodes into his brain's motor cortex, which controls his ability to move.</p><p>But the surgery, which lasted 12 hours, didn't go as well as planned. When he awoke, he couldn't speak, he told Tech Review. A spike in his blood pressure during the procedure caused his brain to swell, leaving him temporarily paralyzed. But Kennedy says he wasn't afraid, because he invented the surgery and knew what to expect.</p><p>Within a few months, he had recovered, and returned for a second surgery to implant the electronics that would record the signals from his brain. When he got back to his lab in Duluth, Georgia, Kennedy began recording his brain signals while saying or thinking basic sounds or words, like "plum" or "hello world," Tech Review reported.</p><p>He found that specific combinations of brain cells fired when he said or thought certain phrases, which could lay the foundation for a true speech decoder. Such a device could vastly improve the quality of life for people who are unable to speak due to a brain injury or illness. He presented his research at a major neuroscience conference in Chicago in October, according to Tech Review.</p><p>He was planning to have the implant for years, but unfortunately, the wound in his skull didn't heal properly, and he was forced to have it removed after just a few weeks. <p>Though he has denied it in the past, former "Game of Thrones" actor Jason Momoa will reportedly play the King of the Seven Seas.</p>

<p>Cyborg and Wonder Woman's roles are rumored to be minor to lay the foundations for the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/justice-league-movie-happening-2014-4" target="_blank">upcoming "Justice League" movie</a> reportedly <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/warner-bros-superhero-movies-in-works-2014-6" target="_blank">set for 2017</a>. </p>
<p>Similarly, Hitfix says Aquaman's role will be brief and limited.</p>

<p>Not only did he tear apart Metropolis, endangering the lives of many citizens, eagle-eyed viewers know he did damage to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/what-superman-reboot-man-of-steel-does-right-2013-6#hints-at-whats-in-store-for-the-next-films-12" target="_blank">LexCorp and Wayne Enterprises</a> properties. He also saved people from an exploding oil rig, who's CEO <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/man-of-steel-sets-up-an-aquaman-film-2013-6" target="_blank">has ties to Aquaman</a>.</p>
<p>Lex Luthor, Batman, and Aquaman may all have a few bones of their own to pick with him. </p>

'Game Of Thrones' Actor Will Reportedly Play Aquaman In The 'Batman V Superman' Movie

<p><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/game-changers/bionics"></div><p></p></div></div>The human body has the potential for amazing feats, but it also has built-in limitations - we can't hear certain tones, we see a limited range of colors, and we can't feel magnetic and electrical fields around us the way some animals do.</p>
<p>Some people choose not to accept those limits.</p>
<p>Neil Harbisson was born without the ability to see color. Now, he can perceive more than 360 colors and even discern the infrared spectrum. Kevin Warwick, the U.K.-based cybernetics professor and author of "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/I-Cyborg-Kevin-Warwick/dp/0252072154" target="_blank">I, Cyborg</a>," was the first person to implant a RFID chip into his arm, which then connected to systems at the University of Reading and could open doors and turn lights on or off. He even connected his nervous system to that of his wife, so they each could feel what the other person was feeling. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right" style="width:400px"><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div>These characters are at the forefront of the biohacker, grinder, or cyborg movement, but they are not the only ones who have started to experiment with technological body modifications that do far more than a traditional piercing or tattoo.</p>
<p>Some think regular people are closer to accepting biohacking than many realize. Most of us are willing to trust computers to take over brain functions already. Search engines replace our memory for basic facts; Google maps replaces our sense of direction.</p>
<p>Bio- and body-hackers take things a step or two further. Using tattoo needles, scalpels, injection devices, microchips, or just wires, they embrace connectivity and step further into the cybernetic world.</p>
<p>To them, the limit is no longer the body. The limit is the mind, the uses we can come up with for this technology. <span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">Biohackers look at what technology is capable of and ask a question:</span></p>

<p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right" style="width:400px"><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div>1. Magnetic implants can help you sense electric fields and pick up small metal objects.</strong> Magnets are commonly implanted into the hand or on a finger, allowing users to sense the location of a nearby electrical field, subway, or microwave.</p>
<p>Tim Cannon, one of the founders of biohacking collective <a href="http://www.grindhousewetware.com/" target="_blank">Grindhouse Wetwares</a> - whose slogan is "What would you like to be today?" - <a href="http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/superman/2013/03/cyborgs_grinders_and_body_hackers_diy_tools_for_adding_sensory_perceptions.single.html" target="_blank">told Slate that</a> he could tell not only where a current is come from, but could also distinguish between alternating current and direct current. A friend even calls him the "laptop whisperer," because he was able to use his abilities to diagnose a battery problem.</p>
<p><strong>2. Magnets can also transmit sound and more.</strong> Biohacker Rich Lee implanted magnets in his ears that <a href="http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/160080-man-implants-magnetic-headphones-becomes-music-cyborg" target="_blank">work as hidden ear buds</a> by picking up a musical signal from a magnetic cord connected to a music player. He told Extreme Tech that he planned on linking these implants to his phone's GPS system so that directions could be transmitted directly to his head. Linked up to a microphone, he could use them as a listening device or phone as well.</p>

Temporary digital tattoos can relay vital information about health</strong>. Biohackers are wary about saying that their devices relay health information - most don't want their work to be regulated as medical technology by the Food and Drug Administration, one reason that individuals can't use anesthesia when putting an implant in themselves. But biohacking research has led to the creation of temporary tattoos that can assess vital statistics. <a href="http://www.jacobsschool.ucsd.edu/news/news_releases/release.sfe?id=1353" target="_blank">Some monitor sweat</a> to gauge physical activity. Others can <a href="http://www.futurity.org/its-electric-wireless-tattoo-sticks-to-skin/" target="_blank">monitor the body's electrical activity, heart rate, and more</a> - and can transmit that data to computers and mobile devices.</p>
<p>Big companies, who are less intimidated by regulation, also seem aware of the potential of these tattoos. A Google-owned company is working on digital tattoos that could connect to smartphones and gaming devices and that could even serve as lie detectors, <a href="http://pdfaiw.uspto.gov/.aiw?PageNum=0&amp;docid=20130297301&amp;IDKey=67084E6A3F15&amp;HomeUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fappft.uspto.gov%2Fnetacgi%2Fnph-Parser%3FSect1%3DPTO2%2526Sect2%3DHITOFF%2526p%3D1%2526u%3D%25252Fnetahtml%25252FPTO%25252Fsearch-bool.html%2526r%3D1%2526f%3DG%2526l%3D50%2526co1%3DAND%2526d%3DPG01%2526s1%3D20130297301.PGNR.%2526OS%3DDN%2F20130297301%2526RS%3DDN%2F20130297301" target="_blank">according to the patent it filed</a>.</p>

<p><strong>4. RFID Chips let the human body interact with electronic devices in a variety of ways.</strong> For some people, this is a means of unlocking doors, computers, and other devices. One researcher used an implanted chip to spread a computer virus.</p>
<p>An implant like this can connect to payment and security systems, as well as communication tools and so much more. This is one of those modifications where the question is, if you have a device that can interact with almost any machine, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microchip-implants-in-healthy-people-2014-7" target="_blank">what do you want it to do</a>?</p>
<p><strong>5. The Eyeborg allows Neil Harbisson to hear the colors of the world.</strong> A small antenna mounted over Harbisson's head views the colors of the world, including the ultraviolet and infrared spectrum, and vibrates a unique tone that only he can hear, allowing him to perceive the world in color - something he was born without the ability to do. It would take time for someone else to learn to use Harbisson's synesthesia-like approach to viewing the world, but you can <a href="http://eyeborg.wix.com/cyborg#!lab/czm2" target="_blank">download the software</a> to start building your own Eyeborg at home.</p>
<p>Harbisson says becoming a self-identified cyborg led him to found the <a href="http://eyeborg.wix.com/cyborg" target="_blank">Cyborg Foundation</a>, which works to help people extend their senses through technology and defends their right to do so. "I think we are now entering the age of transition into cyborgs," he <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/bionic-technology-human-cyborgs-2014-7" target="_blank">told Business Insider</a>. "I'm sure it'll be normal to meet someone and ask 'what are your extra senses?'"</p>
<p><strong>6. Biohacking implants can give you a Spider-Man-like ability to sense movement all around you. </strong>Different devices do this in different ways. Rich Lee says that connecting his ear implants to a range finder can create a sort of echolocation ability, which will hum as an object gets closer to him. A Cyborg Foundation Project called the 360º Sensory Extension vibrates if someone approaches from behind, and can even do so from different sides of the body. Grindhouse Wetwares has a project called <a href="http://www.grindhousewetware.com/bottlenose.html" target="_blank">Bottlenose</a> that captures sonar, ultraviolet, Wi-Fi, and thermal data and transmits information about these invisible fields to implanted magnets.</p>
<p>We have learned so much about how to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/the-most-incredible-applications-of-bionics-in-sports-2014-7" target="_blank">fix what's broken</a>, and now we are using that knowledge to hack the body <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/brain-hacking-will-make-us-smarter-and-more-productive-2014-7" target="_blank">and brain</a>. Humans no longer need to be limited to five senses.</p>

6 Strange Body Hacks That Are Actually Useful

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="7849400" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="HBO-Max">HBO Max</keyword>'s "<keyword id="10813122" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Zack-Snyders-Justice-League">Zack Snyder's Justice League</keyword>" has been well-received by fans.</li><li>Though it ends on a cliff-hanger, WarnerMedia currently has no plans for a sequel.</li><li>Fans tell Insider why they will continue their mission to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse.</li></ul><p>Will Rowlands was tuned into <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/zack-snyder">Zack Snyder</a>'s "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/critics-are-wrong-man-of-steel-isnt-a-giant-brood-fest-2013-6">Man of Steel</a>" watch party last May, wondering if the director was finally going to announce what he and other fans had waited years to hear.</p><p>After rallying since late 2017 for Warner Bros. to release the "Snyder cut," Rowlands, an actor and longtime supporter of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign, watched on Vero with other fans as Snyder <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/justice-league-snyder-cut-is-coming-to-hbo-max-2020-5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed a poster for "Zack Snyder's Justice League."</a></p><p>Snyder and his producing partner and wife, Deborah Snyder, previously <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2017/05/zack-snyder-justice-league-family-tragedy-joss-whedon">stepped down from the theatrical cut in 2017</a> following their daughter's death and a <a href="https://heroichollywood.com/zack-snyder-justice-league-runtime-warner-bros-joke/">studio mandate to keep the superhero film to two hours</a>. As a result, <a href="https://www.insider.com/deborah-snyder-justice-league-zack-snyder-cut-joss-whedon-2021-3">controversial director</a> Joss Whedon ("The Avengers") took over, rewriting and <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/2019/12/justice-league-cinematographer-joss-whedon-zack-snyder-footage-1202194549/">heavily reshooting the film</a>.</p><p>Now, Snyder was finally going to see his original vision for the film through - something unheard of in Hollywood.</p><div type="image" title="zack snyder justice league cut" height="675" width="1200" msid="81888876" hostid="261"></div><p>"It was a surreal moment," Rowlands told Insider. "It's like, you've won the battle."</p><p>"But something inside me was thinking, what if they screw him again?" he added.</p><p>Fast-forward nearly a year later, leading up to the release of "<keyword id="442750" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Zack-Snyder">Zack Snyder</keyword>'s <keyword id="254726" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Justice-League">Justice League</keyword>" was a bit of a disaster. Part of the film strangely leaked <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/justice-league-surprises-some-hbo-max-subscribers-with-accidental-debut">on HBO Max 10 days early when some users started streaming "Tom and Jerry."</a> The mistake was fixed the same day.</p><p>On March 15, the night of the film's virtual premiere, technical difficulties delayed screening links to fans and media for nearly six hours. </p><div type="image" title="justice league premiere emails " height="1777" width="1191" msid="81888878" hostid="261"></div><p>More than four hours after the film's virtual premiere was set to begin, there was still no solution. Snyder tweeted out a simple, "<a href="https://twitter.com/ZackSnyder/status/1371644253802143747">I have no words. Still waiting for info. So sorry</a>." </p><p>Screening links were finally accompanied with a note saying in part, "we want to express our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused by this delay."</p><p>The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-justice-league-snyder-cut-movement-got-momentum-joker-momoa-2019-10">#ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign</a>, in theory, was supposed to die out after the film's release on March 18. The opposite happened.</p><p>Snyder was allowed to end the film <a href="https://www.insider.com/justice-league-zack-snyder-cut-martian-manhunter-harry-lennix-cameo">on a cliff-hanger</a> with a villain preparing to invade Earth. (The film was always <a href="https://www.insider.com/zack-snyder-justice-league-sequel-plot-details-2021-3">intended to go on for another two movies</a>). In doing so, it opened the door for fans to ask for a sequel.</p><p>Still, before too many fans could start demanding a sequel, WarnerMedia Studios CEO Ann Sarnoff told Variety <a href="https://www.insider.com/warnermedia-zack-snyders-justice-league-wont-get-sequels-2021-3">none were happening </a>despite their parent company, AT&amp;T, putting storyboards for sequels on <a href="https://www.dmagazine.com/arts-entertainment/2021/03/ahead-of-justice-league-release-att-opens-the-snydercut-in-downtown-dallas/">display in an official exhibit in Texas</a>. Variety added that the studio wants to "<a href="https://variety.com/2021/film/news/zack-snyder-justice-league-suicide-squad-ray-fisher-warnermedia-1234935580/">move past the social media campaign</a>."</p><p>That <a href="https://www.insider.com/warnermedia-zack-snyders-justice-league-wont-get-sequels-2021-3">hasn't sat well with fans</a>. </p><p>Though the company may believe it satisfied the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement by releasing the long-fabled "Snyder cut," it's unclear how anyone could watch the four-hour <keyword id="6356021" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="movie">movie</keyword> and think fans would be placated.</p><p>Now, a movement WarnerMedia thought it could move past is evolving, growing, and shows no signs of slowing down until they either get the sequels they want or Snyder tells fans that he's moving on.</p><h2><strong>#ReleaseTheSnyderCut quickly became #RestoreTheSnyderVerse</strong></h2><div type="image" title="zack snyders justice league" height="2160" width="2880" msid="81888880" hostid="261"></div><p>Fans have tweeted about Snyder's "Justice League" non-stop since the first screening links became available March 15, with many saying this is the version of the film they wished they received years ago. The movie currently sits at 72% on <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/zack_snyders_justice_league">Rotten Tomatoes with a 95% audience score</a>. (In contrast, the 2017 film <a href="https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/justice_league_2017">has a 40% critic rating and 71% approval from fans</a>.)</p><p>"It's 10/10 for me. I remember leaving the theater in 2017 angry, feeling robbed of something," Alex Trevari told Insider. "This movie exists. And I never thought it would. And that's pretty special."</p><p>"It's perfect," Cole, one half of "<a href="https://linktr.ee/TheNerdQueens">The Nerd Queens</a>," two longtime friends and members of the #ReleasetheSnyderCut campaign, told Insider. "Some people have said they have complaints, but I can't think of a single one except the fact that I need more."</p><div type="image" title="zsjl reax " height="2400" width="1200" msid="81888881" hostid="261"></div><p>Now, instead of asking for the "Snyder cut," they're asking for HBO Max and WB to restore Snyder's trilogy. </p><p>A social media campaign on March 25 had the #RestoreTheSnyderVerse hashtag trending <a href="https://www.cbr.com/justice-league-restorethesnyderverse-campaign-million-tweets/">worldwide on Twitter with well over 1.4 million tweets in 24 hours</a>. </p><p>Although WarnerMedia hasn't released streaming figures on how many people watched "Zack Snyder's Justice League" opening weekend, according to one third-party analytics company, Samba TV, <a href="https://deadline.com/2021/03/justice-league-snyder-cut-wonder-woman-1984-hbo-max-viewership-1234720662/">1.8 million US households watched at least five minutes of the film opening weekend on HBO Max</a>. (That number <a href="https://observer.com/2021/04/justice-league-hbo-max-ratings-viewership-subscribers-netflix-disneyplus-amazon/">doesn't count non-television devices</a>.)</p><p>The viewership numbers alone make a pretty strong case to continue Snyder's vision.</p><p>"I think they'd be stupid financially to not continue because they've got products now that can go exclusively [to] HBO Max," Rowlands said, adding that it gives consumers a big reason to stay with the streaming service. </p><div type="image" title="zack snyder restore the snyderverse response" height="1507" width="828" msid="81888882" hostid="261"></div>But WarnerMedia appears to be trying to wash its hands of Snyder, instead focusing on its own original film slate to put "<a href="https://variety.com/2021/film/news/zack-snyder-justice-league-suicide-squad-ray-fisher-warnermedia-1234935580/">different voices in the mix.</a>"<p>Snyder told Deadline that Warner Bros. <a href="https://deadline.com/2021/03/zack-snyder-justice-league-cut-interview-ray-fisher-cyborg-joss-whedon-hbo-max-1234716917/">considers the 2017 cut of the film canon</a>. Since "Zack Snyder's Justice League," release, Warner Bros. has ramped up promotion for its upcoming "<a href="https://www.insider.com/james-gunn-the-suicide-squad-cast">The Suicide Squad</a>" film with new trailers and The Rock's <a href="https://www.insider.com/what-is-black-adam-movie-the-rock">"Black Adam" film</a> with casting news. A lot of fans saw the timing of these announcements as ways to deride and silence chatter about the "Snyder cut." </p><p>Rowlands says there's no reason they can't have both the SnyderVerse and separate DECU films, reiterating something one of the film's stars, <a href="https://www.insider.com/zack-snyders-justice-league-sequels-restore-the-snyderverse-campaign-2021-3">Harry Lennix, who plays Martian Manhunter, told Insider.</a> </p><p>In part, the actor said that "it should not surprise us that our national sort of mythology would have differences of opinion and approach and that they could be sustained."</p><h2><strong>The movement continues to grow as #RestoreTheSnyderVerse becomes more mainstream</strong></h2><div type="image" title="aquaman cyborg the flash zack snyder justice league" height="2160" width="2880" msid="81888884" hostid="261"></div><p>Fans told Insider that after the film's release, they noticed people who may not have been aware of the #ReleasetheSnyderCut movement, or who were but didn't previously participate, were suddenly taking notice.</p><p>"It's gone more mainstream and the demand is only going to grow," Rowlands told Insider of people inquiring about the "Snyder cut" on social media, at times unaware the four-hour film <a href="https://www.insider.com/zack-snyder-justice-league-cut-removes-cringeworthy-scenes-women">was different from the 2017 version</a>. </p><p>"We have people who have never been that interested and invested in the fight coming to us [asking], 'Hey, what can I do to help you get the next one?" Nana, the other half of "The Nerd Queens," said, adding that it seems like the outcry for sequels could be even bigger.</p><div type="image" title="zack snyder justice league" height="1571" width="2297" msid="81888885" hostid="261"></div>Rowlands said he's even been asked directly about sequels from fans.<p>"I've had people go, 'Is there another one? Do you know if there's another one coming? Is there a sequel?'" he added.</p><p>It's not just the casual fanbase that's growing. Actors have thrown their support behind sequels, too.</p><p>In addition to Cyborg actor Ray Fisher, Deathstroke actor Joe Manganiello and Ray Porter, who plays the film's villain, Darkseid, have all tweeted their support behind the #RestoreTheSnyderverse hashtag. WB filmmaker and <a href="https://www.insider.com/christopher-nola-encouraged-zack-snyder-justice-league-snyder-cut-2021-3">Snyder's friend Christopher Nolan</a> also joined in supporting the movement with his production company, Syncopy.</p><p>Lennix also <a href="https://www.insider.com/zack-snyders-justice-league-sequels-restore-the-snyderverse-campaign-2021-3">told Insider that he hoped</a> we could see Snyder "finish his vision" with potential sequels.</p><p>"I think it is worthy of the time and resource," Lennix said. "I think that this film, this version, will get the love that it deserves. I think it changes the game in many ways. And so who knows? I don't think this is the end of the story. I'll put it that way."</p><h2>Although some fans have crossed the line with 'reprehensible' behaivor, most have found community</h2><h2><div type="image" title="snyder cut comic con buttons" height="3024" width="3024" msid="81888888" hostid="261"></div></h2><p>Some segments of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement have <a href="https://www.vox.com/22339680/zack-snyder-cut-justice-league-hbo-max-toxic-fandom-backlash">spammed critics, producers</a>, and fans with angry comments, <a href="https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2020/05/is-releasing-the-snyder-cut-a-victory-for-toxic-fandoms">and threats</a>. Sarnoff recently called out parts of the fandom for <a href="https://variety.com/2021/film/news/zack-snyder-justice-league-suicide-squad-ray-fisher-warnermedia-1234935580/">"reprehensible" behavior towards executives</a>, saying they will not tolerate it.</p><p>Still, for a large contingent of fans, it's become a source of community and, sometimes, a life-saving one at that, especially during the isolation of the pandemic. </p><p>"It's meant so much to me," Dominic from Estonia, who's been a part of the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement since 2018, told Insider over Twitter.</p><p>"2018-19 (and even since) has been the hardest period of my personal life and this movement quickly became a family and gave me something to hope in, believe in, and fight for. I can't quite describe how this last year has felt in terms of vindication and celebration," he added.</p><div type="image" title="zack snyder times square billboard" height="600" width="1200" msid="81888889" hostid="261"></div>The movement was never about just getting a movie made. As Sean O'Connell notes in his book, "<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Release-Snyder-Cut-Snyders-Justice/dp/1493059033">Release The Snyder Cut</a>," it was about righting a wrong to Snyder and allowing the director to see his original vision through. <p>Rowlands said everyone who tweeted for the film didn't do it from a selfish place. While he helped raise funds for <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/2019/07/release-snyder-cut-billboards-san-diego-comic-con-photos-1202158171/">billboards and signs at San Diego Comic-Con</a> and a <a href="https://in.ign.com/movie/140151/news/release-the-snyder-cut-fans-buy-times-square-billboards-during-nycc">Times Square ad</a> during 2019's New York Comic Con, any extra money went to charity.</p><p>By December 2020, the movement <a href="https://screenrant.com/justice-league-zack-snyder-cut-afsp-donations-response/">raised over $500,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention</a> in honor of Snyder's daughter who died by suicide.</p><p>"People say, Oh, they're just bullies and toxic and all that," Rowlands said. "I've made so many friends, I would never have met ever."</p><h2><strong>Social media events, Justice Con 2021, and a 'large scale public event' are next for these fans</strong></h2><div type="image" title="justice league" height="1448" width="2374" msid="81888891" hostid="261"></div><p>Rowlands told Insider via email that plans are already in motion for another "large scale public event" without giving details.</p><p>For now, fans have put together a series social media campaigns over the next month, starting Sunday.</p><p>From mobile billboards in New York City and Los Angeles,<a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/restorethesnyderverse-mobile-billboard-afsp?utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter=twitter"> funded by GoFundMe,</a> to virtual fundraisers like "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmbXef0QoqdIfcXUMj_DD7A">Justice Con 2021</a>," raising money for suicide prevention, hosted by The Nerd Queens and founding member <a href="https://www.youtube.com/c/wondermeg">Wonder Meg,</a> efforts aren't slowing down.</p><p>"If there's a legacy for this movement, this is it," Nana told Insider of the community they're supporting. "It's not so much the movie itself as the money we've raised and the work that we do or try to do to raise awareness for this particular issue." </p><p>Other hashtags are calling for the release of David Ayer's directorial cut of 2016's "Suicide Squad," and other "Snyder cut" spinoffs, including an HBO Max "Deathstroke" series, featuring Manganiello and a solo Batman movie, featuring Ben Affleck.</p><div type="image" title="JusticeConLogo.PNG" height="1816" width="1242" msid="81888892" hostid="261"></div><p>Nana and Cole said they'll stop fighting to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse if and when the director says it's something he has no interest in pursuing further.</p><p>One of the hopes is that higher ups at AT&amp;T, which own WarnerMedia, will take notice and make a decision to greenlight Snyder's two remaining sequels from there. </p><p>"When we say 'Restore the SnyderVerse,' if [Snyder] supports it, if this is something he wants, then yes, we will be out there and we will be fighting for it, no matter what is at the end of it," Nana said. </p><p>"But if he says, you know, 'Hey, I don't want to do the superhero stuff anymore,' That's fine too," she continued. </p>

After eyeing an air cannon, picking up a villain net, and taking photos with the Rilling Brand Mind Reader, they asked the employee tending the store what many visitors wonder: "What is all this?"</p>

<p>Besides being a place to gather items for a homemade superhero costume, the Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co. is part <span style="background-color: #ffffff;">of best-selling author <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Dave-Eggers/e/B001H6UAH4"><span style="background-color: #ffffff;">Dave Eggers</span></a>' <a href="http://826national.org/"><span style="background-color: #ffffff;">826 National</span></a>, a n</span>onprofit that uses wacky stores like this one, the original<a href="http://826valencia.org/store/"> Pirate Store</a> in San Francisco, the <a href="http://www.826boston.org/">Greater Boston Bigfoot Research Institute</a>, and others to mask full-fledged tutoring centers.<span style="background-color: #ffff00;"></span></p>
<p>Behind a secret door in the Superhero Supply Co. is a spacious learning center where students ages 6 to 18 participate in creative writing programs and get homework help. Even though the company's main purpose is education, as part of the 826 network, it is not a typical nonprofit.</p>
<p>"We want people to get lost in the idea of a superhero store," says store manager Chris Molnar. "We don't want to beat them over the head with our programs. We want to keep the magic."</p>
<p>By adding a level of mystery and fun to the nonprofit model, Molnar explains, the store draws in potential students and volunteers intrigued by a superhero supply company and manages to make seeing a tutor a fun experience for kids.</p>
<p>Molnar packages all of the products in the store's basement, giving often-mundane objects new life through creative labeling and descriptions. All the profits go toward funding the store's operations and educational programs.</p>

<p>Sales of the toys go toward keeping the store up and running, but the Superhero Supply Co. and the other seven 826 National stores are mainly funded through the support of foundations, corporations, and private donors, 826 National CEO Gerald Richards tells us.</p>
<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Richard Feloni/Business Insider</span></p></div><p></p></div>Key donors include Time Warner Cable, Bad Robot, BlackRock, Google, Microsoft, Jansport, Random House Publishing, the NEA, Yellow Chair Foundation, Hearst Foundation, and the Points of Light Foundation. 826 operated on $6.2 million last year.</p>
<p>Richards says 826 National is in a growth phase and is considering expanding into Minneapolis and Philadelphia. Wiley will publish a series of 826 workbooks early next year, funded by Time Warner Cable.</p>
<p>The Superhero Supply Co. is also doing well and growing, Molnar says.</p>
<p>Its team of 250 volunteers, five staff members, and a handful of interns helped tutor over 2,300 students in the 2013-2014 school year, Marianna Lockington, 826 New York's director of education, tells us.</p>
<p>She says that the team reaches out to schools across New York City, and teachers and parents create buzz through word of mouth.</p>
<p>One of its programs is a field trip for younger students who get to poke around the shop before they're taken through the secret door and told to write a book. Before they leave, they pose with a pair of thick-rimmed black glasses (on sale in the front) for their author photos. Some are collected on a bookcase in the tutoring room:</p>
