German electronic manufacturing firm Hama enters India market

New Delhi, Apr 12 () The lockdown and work from home period has underscored the importance of consumer durables and electronic products, and such items will feature high on people's shopping lists once the curbs are relaxed, as per retail store chain Croma. Products such as laptops, smartphones and printers have become crucial for those working from home, while household appliances like washing machines, ACs, TVs and vacuum cleaners are now more important than ever for households. "These are all likely to feature high on the list of people as they come out of lockdown, especially since there is already talk of scenarios where another lockdown might be required," Infiniti Retail CMO Ritesh Ghosal told . Infiniti Retail, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, runs the Croma brand of stores. However, like other retailers, Croma is also expecting a hit on business due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent nationwide lockdown. "We have lost business for between one and two weeks in March depending on the store and the city and the first 15 days of April, at the very least. So yes, it is going to affect our business performance for these two quarters. "Further, as this is the period the summer sets in across the country and cooling gadgets like ACs, refrigerators and coolers sell in large quantities, the lost sales will impact the annual performance of these key categories," he added. The company is also factoring in disruptions in supply of several key categories once the lockdown ends. "There will be disruptions in supply in several categories as they rely on a heavily globalised supply chain. Till things do not settle down across the world, supplies of electronic gadgets will stay unreliable," said Ghosal. The appliances and consumer electronics industry was already facing shortage of components from China since February and March. Asked whether the e-commerce sector would gain prominence in sales of consumer durables once the lockdown period ends, Ghosal said people are "disillusioned" with the unreliability of e-retail logistics. "In India, the lockdown has seen a complete collapse of the logistics arms of the e-commerce sector and people are fairly disillusioned with this sector. "Retailers across the spectrum are waking up to the e-commerce opportunity and e-commerce is waking up to the reality that they really do not the robustness of operations to deliver to the market's expectation," he said. Croma has presence in both offline and online platforms. It presently operates 112 stores across 19 major cities. "Croma has a digital arm which enables digital purchases, offers assisted shopping by store staff and express delivery from the nearest store. We are ready and equipped to scale up this service for customers hesitant to step out of their homes," he added. Despite the sluggish business environment, Croma would go ahead with its expansion plans. "Currently, there are a handful of stores ready for opening plus another set in various stages of fit-out. Beyond this, we have a pipeline in progress till 2025. At this point, there is no decision to pull back or pause the expansion. "We have faith in our business model and also that the future of India is bright. If not in a quarter or two, definitely sometime soon India will resume its status as the fastest growing major economy in the world and we want to be in a position to be part of that story," said Ghosal. Croma is also in touch with its property owners and is negotiating waiver of rents for the lockdown period like other retailers. "This is a time of crisis for both us and them. We are all trying to navigate the financial nightmare of unsold inventory on the one hand and salary and interest payments on the other. I cannot say what the final outcome will be only that we are sailing in the same boat and will jointly figure a way out," he said. The country's largest cell phone maker has merged the vertical that managed its own brand stores with retail sales that dealt with independent dealers and distributors. 
 They said the regional retail vertical, which caters to large regional chains such as Viveks, Adishwar Retail, Great Eastern and Vijay Sales, will continue as it is. <keyword id="1611492" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Alok-Pathak">Alok Pathak</keyword>, who was earlier heading the regional retail vertical, will now lead the combined portfolio of brand shops and retail sales. 
 Rajeev Bhutani, who used to head retail sales, has become vice-president for business strategy. <keyword id="3005442" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Rakesh-Moza">Rakesh Moza</keyword> now heads the regional vertical, apart from his earlier role of heading modern retail that includes chains like <keyword id="152739" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Croma">Croma</keyword> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Reliance+Digital">Reliance Digital</a>.

 The company may then adopt the business structure it follows in the cell phone business where the business is divided as per geography, referred to as India One and India Two within Samsung, the person said. While Samsung may still be the <keyword id="139821" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="market-leader">market leader</keyword> in flat panel television, Sony has bridged the gap by launching smaller screen sizes specifically for India. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LG+">LG</a> remains the largest home appliances maker. 
 
A top executive in a rival firm is of the view that Samsung's white goods business was under pressure this year since consumers have cut back on spending while the Korean firm is more focused on the premium segment. "The company is trying to upgrade sales by launching high-end products with attractive consumer finance schemes and promotions, but consumer sentiments are still down and the company's margins are under pressure," the person said.

New Delhi, Jun 8 () Paytm on Monday said it has expanded its 'Paytm Postpaid' offering to cover neighbourhood kirana stores and retail chains like Reliance Fresh, Haldiram, Apollo Pharmacy, Croma, Shoppers Stop, among others. Users can utilise Paytm Postpaid to buy grocery and home essentials, and make various bill payments as well. The service is offered in partnership with two NBFCs that offer an instant credit line for various payments to Paytm app users. "Seeing an increasing demand for consumer credit during the ongoing pandemic, the company has increased this credit limit up to Rs 1 lakh of monthly spends to enable payment for large items such as furniture and consumer electronics among others," a statement said. Initially, select users will be shown a 'Postpaid' icon in the Financial Services Section to avail 'Paytm Postpaid' post completion of their online KYC with the partner NBFC. The bill repayment can be done by the 7th of each month. Paytm said the service would provide relief to Paytm users as the increased credit limit and a large set of use-cases will eliminate the need to withdraw cash for meeting monthly household expenses. The company has introduced 3 variants of Postpaid - Lite, Delite and Elite - which will be offered based on partner NBFC's assessment. While Postpaid Lite comes with limits up to Rs 20,000 and a convenience charge, Delite and Elite offer credit limits from Rs 20,000 to Rs 1,00,000 in monthly spends with no convenience charges. It said Postpaid Lite has been designed so that users without excellent credit score are also able to avail the service. It added that there is no cost associated with activating and keeping Paytm Postpaid or any of its variants. "Paytm Postpaid is our mission to provide access to credit to every Paytm user.
