While all three members of the CAC are former cricket players, Naik is the only continuing member. Naik, in an 11-year-long career, played two Tests, 46 ODIs and 31 T20Is for India. Paranjape replaced Rudra Pratap Singh who left the committee to join IPL team Mumbai Indians as a talent scout. Meanwhile, Malhotra replaced former India seamer and Indian national cricket coach, Madan Lal. “Mr Malhotra has represented India in 7 Tests and 20 One-day internationals and recently served as the President of the Indian Cricketers’ Association. Mr Paranjape has played 4 ODIs for India and was part of the Senior Men’s Selection Committee,” said Jay Shah, honorary secretary-BCCI, in a press release. Simply put, the BCCI has appointed a team to hire the team – the selection committee– that will hire the players for the senior Indian National men’s team. As per the BCCI constitution, the selection committee is always appointed by the CAC. The selection committee – which consists of five members from five zones (Central, North, West, South, and East) of India – will ultimately be responsible for selecting players for the senior Indian National Cricket Team. In November, BCCI sacked the entire senior selection committee headed by Chetan Sharma. Other members of the committee were Harvinder Singh, Debasish Mohanty and Sunil Joshi. There was no selector from West Zone at the time, as Abbey Kuruvilla’s tenure had already ended. It was during Sharma’s reign as the chief selector that India delivered disappointing results, such as failing to clear the group stage in the 2021 T20 World Cup, and losing the World Test Championship to New Zealand in 2021. India, under Rohit Sharma’s captainship, also faced a crushing defeat at the hands of England in the semi final of 2022 T20 World Cup. The applicant should also have retired from the game at least 5 years ago, and any person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the rules and regulations of BCCI) for a total of 5 years shall not be eligible to be a member of Men’s Selection Committee. BCCI picks 3-member Cricket Advisory Committee that will kickstart process to select men’s national team

Dravid, who had a two-year contract originally, was given an extension along with his support staff after the conclusion of the 50-overs World Cup in November last year. "We will call for applications in the next few days. Rahul Dravid's tenure is coming to an end. He has to reapply if he has to continue. We are looking for a long-term coach, for three years," Shah told select media during an interaction at the BCCI office here on Thursday. The BCCI secretary said there has been no precedent of having different coaches for different formats but ultimately the decision rests with the Cricket Advisory Committee. The CAC comprises Jatin Paranjape, Ashok Malhotra and Sulakshana Naik. "There is no precedent of different coaches for different format in Indian cricket. Besides, we have a number of players who are all-format players. There are many common players across formats such as Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma," he said. "Ultimately, this is the Cricket Advisory Committee's call. I have to implement what they decide," he added. Shah said even a foreign coach can be considered depending on the CAC's recommendations. "If the CAC selects a foreign coach, I can't interfere," he added. The BCCI secretary informed that the vacant post of one national selector is expected to be filled up soon. "A few interviews for the selector's post have already happened. We will announce it soon," he said. "We have an experienced team; a better team couldn't have been selected. We have selected the best 15 players possible. We have a batting line up till Nos. 8 and 9. We have selected experienced players who can play in all conditions," he added. Shah rejected the talk that India, England and Australia are in talks to revive the franchise-based competition Champions League T20. Cricket Victoria CEO Nick Cummins had claimed in a media interaction here last month that the three boards are in talks to revive the competition. "The Cricket Victoria CEO has not spoken to me about this. No such discussions are taking place. I would have told you had I been a part of any talks," Shah said. He also said the ICC has not approached BCCI on the topic of creating windows for country-based T20 leagues. "That is ICC's prerogative. It is a fact that the ICC is not touching the IPL. In fact, they have given it a two-and-a-half month window instead of just about two months, we are grateful to the ICC for that," he said. Shah said the board will speak to the ICC about hosting the World Test Championship final at a different venue from 2027. The first two editions of Test cricket's summit clash have been organised in England, including the one for the current 2023-25 cycle. "We have spoken about the ICC for 2027. There are only three main Test centres, India, England and Australia. You cannot hold it in Australia during that window or even in India. Even in Bengaluru, it rains during that time," he said. Rahul Dravid will have to reapply if he wants to continue as head coach after June: Jay Shah

New Delhi, Domestic stalwart <keyword id="89370" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amol-Muzumdar" source="Orion">Amol Muzumdar</keyword> is set to become the Indian women's <keyword id="5410761" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cricket-head-coach" source="Orion">cricket head coach</keyword> after impressing the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) the most during the interviews of the short-listed candidates in Mumbai on Monday. The CAC comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik found Muzumdar's 90-minute presentation most impressive. The others who were interviewed were former Durham coach Jon Lewis and Tushar Arothe, who had already served as India head coach before resigning in 2018. The development comes days before the commencement of India's tour of Bangladesh. India were without a head coach since December last year when Ramesh Powar was sacked. "The CAC was most impressed with Amol's presentation who was very clear in his plans for the women's team. The other presentations were good too but his was by far the best. He will most likely be recommended for the job," a BCCI official told PTI. Muzumdar, who was most recently the head coach of Mumbai Ranji side and has had stints with IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals and South African national team, was the only one who appeared for the interview in person. Muzumdar's first assignment will be the tour of Bangladesh, beginning July 9. India will play three T20s and as many ODIs in Mirpur. The Indian women's team, which has often lost high-stake games from winning position in the last five years, is yet to win a world title. Muzumdar, who is likely to get a two-year contract, will be expected to guide the team to an elusive ICC title in Bangladesh next year when the T20 World Cup will be played in September-October. Considering India's inability to close out knock-out games, most recently in the T20 World Cup semifinal against Australia earlier this year, the new head coach's area of focus will be to improve the physical fitness of the players besides working on their mental toughness. "Fitness is a major area of improvement for the women's cricket team. Some of the players in the national side really need to work on their fitness. Muzumdar also highlighted the need to have a full fledged support staff, including a mental trainer. "He is fully aware of what this team needs to get to the next level," the Board official added. The next two women's ICC events are in the sub-continent -- Bangladesh and India, and that also has gone in Muzumdar's favour. India will host women's ODI World Cup in September 2025. "Communication is not a problem with an Indian coach and he also has a rich experience of playing in the sub-continent conditions." Muzumdar amassed more than 11,167 runs in first-class cricket but despite piling on the runs, he could never make it to the Indian team.

Amol Muzumdar set to become Indian women's cricket team head coach

The world was astounded at the way it was done, without a human care and thought of any kindness behind it. There was no exit interview or interaction between the employees and the company and a call or a message was all that apparently one got as an adieu. Reverberating with the unceremonious exits of thousands of Twitter, Amazon, Meta and several other such companies, one was surprised about the dreaded pink slip that was given to all the selectors of the <keyword id="8675" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-cricket-team" source="Orion">Indian cricket team</keyword> by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (<keyword id="6354756" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bcci" source="Orion">BCCI</keyword>) as well. The loss in the semifinal stage of the T20 World Cup was the death knell for the wise men who failed to select the right winning squad for the prestigious tournament. The selectors in the past have been called various names. However, two of India's legendary cricketers, referred to them as 'A bunch of Jokers' and 'Court Jesters and Lame Ducks', which was pretty amusing at that time. Both were proven right. However, the Indian acceptance of 'This is the way it is' needs to inspire a change for the better in the future. One did feel sorry for the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee, which did not receive any written or verbal brickbats. However, they had their photographs splashed in several print and digital media, with the word 'Sacked' prominently displayed. They did select a squad that had all the skills and experience to combine themselves into a forceful and winning unit. The Indian think tank of the coach, captain and the support staff was outsmarted both on and off the field by England. India's loss needed fall guys and the easiest were 'the wise men of Gotham' -- the selectors. The BCCI, interestingly, since then has used the existing selectors to select the sides for India's upcoming series. The post of the selectors is now a well-remunerated one and is a full-time job and it, therefore, requires a professional approach. The most important task is in the selection of the selectors. There are certain criteria that are required to be met as regards the age being under 60 years as well as one should have played seven Test matches or 30 First-class matches etc. However, the most important appointment by the BCCI is the appointment of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). The CAC selects the selectors and, therefore, the three members that represent it should have impeccable credentials. They, one feels, should have played over 25 Test matches and have a thorough knowledge of the game and what the position entails. The BCCI are fortunate that they have Roger Binny as their president, Dilip Vengsarkar and Shubhangi Kulkarni in their Apex Committee, three Indian Test cricketers who would be ideal people to select a very competent CAC. The selectors now are a professional outfit, wherein, the earlier requirement of five zonal representatives should be abolished. Earlier, this was necessary as the Ranji Trophy was played initially in their respective zones and thereafter teams qualified for the knock-out stage. In the present format, the zonal basis makes no sense as teams are now placed in groups from any part of India. The five selectors, similar to selection committees in other cricket-playing countries of the world, need to have individuals with the best credentials and capabilities. They could all be from one state or zone if need be. The vast amount of cricket being played domestically, one feels, each selector needs to have his own team of assistant selectors. The job now entails much more than just watching selective matches but a thorough analysis of players and their performance. India is a vast cricket-playing country and the challenge is for one to ensure that every talented Indian cricketer is identified and spotted on time. The talent-spotting programme, which was introduced under Vengsarkar many years ago, was a huge success. A similar approach should be conceptualised, with talent spotters from respective zones reporting to each of the five selectors. This would ensure a better coverage of unearthing aspiring cricketers from the junior to the senior-most level. At present, the IPL and the Under-19 India performers have become the hotbed for quick and early recognition. This is not the best solution as there are several other cricketers playing in the domestic circuit who have not been chosen in the IPL and have long passed the age of 19. A good example of late bloomers is Suryakumar Yadav. SKY, as he is popularly known, is batting like a man possessed, in limited-overs cricket. He has been a part of domestic cricket for many years and is at present 32 years old. He seems ready to play Test cricket, a format that evaded him till now. The time has come for a radical change on the appointment, scope and deliverables of a national cricket selector at all levels of the game. A common structure should be introduced that covers the cricket associations as well. The pink slips and sacking, one feels, is not the best way forward. A selector is, after all, only the facilitator and not the performer. The irony in this case was the facilitators became the fall guys whereas the ones who needed to perform are sitting unreprimanded. This definitely needs a comprehensive change. 'The dreaded pink slip given to all the Indian senior cricket selectors'

The <keyword id="4121823" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="committee-of-administrators">Committee of Administrators</keyword> (CoA) today formed a four-member panel, which includes acting Board President C K Khanna and CEO <keyword id="281749" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rahul-Johri">Rahul Johri</keyword>, to decide on the remuneration of newly-appointed head coach <keyword id="19692" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ravi-Shastri">Ravi Shastri</keyword> and other members of the support staff, according to a PTI news report. CoA member Diana Edulji and <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary are the other members of the Committee which will meon July 19. This was decided after a CoA meeting today. The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had named Shastri as head coach while <keyword id="2727" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rahul-Dravid">Rahul Dravid</keyword> and <keyword id="12644" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zaheer-Khan">Zaheer Khan</keyword> were appointed batting and bowling consultants respectively for specific overseas tours. The new committee will reach out to CoA with its recommendations on July 22. Since the Indian cricket team is leaving for a tour of <keyword id="6355572" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sri-Lanka">Sri Lanka</keyword> on July 19, it is not clear if Zaheer and Dravid will travel with the team. India will play the first Test against Sri Lanka on July 26.

Till the BCCI finds a permanent coach, former captain <keyword id="19692" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ravi-Shastri">Ravi Shastri</keyword> has been retained as Director of the Indian cricket team for Bangladesh tour starting June 10. 
 
He is a stop-gap arrangement for the tour till BCCI finds a successor to Duncan Fletcher, whose tenure ended earlier this year after the World Cup. 
 
Earlier this year, Shastri served as Team Director during the tour of Australia and the subsequent World Cup. 
 
"The BCCI wishes to inform that Mr. Ravi Shastri, former India Captain, has been appointed as Director of the Indian cricket team for the tour of Bangladesh, starting on 10 June 2015," BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur said in a statement. 
 
The BCCI will appoint a new coach only after consulting the newly-formed advisory committee of the body, which comprises cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. 
 
India will play one Test and three One-Day Internationals in Bangladesh from June 10. 
 
Meanwhile, Shastri has represented India in 80 Tests and 150 ODIs for India and was part of the side, which lifted the 1983 World Cup. 
 
He had travelled with the Indian team to Bangladesh in 2007 also as cricket manager after Greg Chappell resigned from the coach's post following the World Cup debacle that year. 
 
Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman were inducted into the BCCI to guide the Board.

The Men in Blue are due to tour Sri Lanka for a three-match T20I series and three ODIs which will kick off on July 27. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising former India cricketers Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjape and <keyword id="115989" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sulakshana-naik" source="Orion">Sulakshana Naik</keyword> is conducting the interview process for picking up a new selection committee at the headquarters of the board in Mumbai. New Delhi, Apr 24 () The usage of artificial substances to polish the cricket ball, which effectively means ball tampering, could be considered for legalisation when the game resumes after the COVID-19 pandemic that has made bowlers wary of applying saliva on the red cherry. 'ESPNCricinfo' reported that administrators are "open to the option of allowing for the use of an agreed artificial substance to polish the ball under the supervision of the umpires", which amounts to ball-tampering as per the current rules governing the sport. The matter of saliva being unsafe was raised by the ICC's medical committee and it would be addressed before cricket resumes. All sports activities have come to a halt after the coronavirus outbreak. Shining the ball is an integral part of Test cricket as it helps the bowlers swing the ball, both conventional and reverse. If the move gets the go ahead, it would be quite ironic for the game's administrators after the 2018 ball-tampering controversy which led to one-year bans on Steve Smith and David Warner for conspiring to use sandpaper to alter the ball. Following the chief executives meeting of the ICC on Thursday, its medical committee, headed by Peter Harcourt, had issued an update. "Our next step is to create a roadmap for the resumption of international cricket which will include a criteria for decision making and a checklist for what needs to happen. "This will consider everything from player preparation to government restrictions and advisories and bio-bubbles. The scale and complexity of getting cricket started again cannot be underestimated particularly with respect to a global event," Harcourt said. Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood recently said that Test cricket will become harder if the bowlers did not have enough means to move the ball. "I think the white ball would be fine, (but) Test cricket would be very hard. Bowlers rely on any sort of sideways movement in the air," said Hazlewood. "If you didn't maintain the ball at all for 80 overs it would be quite easy to bat after that initial shine has gone. Whether you use saliva or sweat, maybe one person can do it. Former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad supports the idea of not using saliva on the ball. "When the action resumes, they should use only sweat for some time as safety of the players is paramount," former pacer Prasad, who played 33 Tests and 161 ODIs for India, told .However, he reckons it will be tough for the bowlers to stop all of a sudden. "When you are in the thick of things, you tend to forget it. You have to get the upper hand over the batsmen as you can't use anything else besides sweat and saliva. "The question is what do you do when the batsman is pulping you? You need to swing the ball and what helps swing the ball is the aerodynamics," the 50-year-old explained. BS PM PM

<keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword>’s crucial Working Committee meeting was adjourned by President Jagmohan Dalmiya after witnessing high drama over the presence of its former chief N Srinivasan. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Working Committee meeting was adjourned sine die after deciding to seek the opinion of the Hon'ble Supreme Court whether Mr. <keyword id="151653" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="N-Srinivasan">N. Srinivasan</keyword> could attend the meetings of the BCCI as the authorised representative of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association," BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur said in a brief statement. The working committee was to discuss the report of the four-member working group on the roadmap for conducting the <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> in the wake of the two-year suspension of two franchises -- Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals -- by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice RM Lodha committee. 

	The meeting was postponed as the members argued over the presence of Srinivasan, who was earlier barred by the Supreme Court from contesting the BCCI President's post following the IPL spot-fixing scandal. 
 

	In his defence, Srinivasan, who attended the meeting as President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, placed Justice Sri Krishna's opinion which said he was entitled to attend the meeting, an official who attended the meeting said. 
 

	But some BCCI members countered that argument and claimed that the Supreme Court had made it clear that he should stay away from BCCI meetings. 
 

	"Since there was no clarity on the legal status of Mr Srinivsan, President adjourned the meeting after the BCCI legal adviser Ushanath Banerjee also said that he was not sure about Srinivasan's legal standing as of now," the official said. 
 

	The official said that Srinivasan was specifically told not to attend the meeting and among those who tried to dissuade him were IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla and BCCI Treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary. However, the Chennai strongman did not give in and attended the meeting. 
 

	Srinivasan tried explaining his stance to the BCCI members by insisting that there was no conflict of interest in his position as an administrator and as owner of Indian Cements -- the company which owned CSK. 
 

	The BCCI, it is learnt, has decided to call an emergency working committee meeting in the first week of September to finalise the date of its Annual General Meeting, which is likely to be held in Kolkata on September 27. 
 

	Today, the working committee was to discuss the Justice Lodha Committee report and the subsequent recommendations of the Working Group. 
 

	The meeting was also set to deliberate on the the Madras High Court order directing the BCCI, India Cements and others involved to submit their counter affidavits to the petition which has been filed by CSK Ltd. 
 

	The High Court has directed the parties to file their written submissions within a certain time period and the next hearing has been scheduled for September 23. 
 

	The two-time champions CSK had moved the Madras HC challenging the suspension. The first bench of the High Court had found the petition maintainable and issued notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India. 
 

	Other key points on the agenda were the NCA committee recommendations on whether to keep the apex academy in Bangalore, discuss affiliation status of Chattisgarh, Bihar and Manipur and the technical committee recommendation among others. 
 

	Appointment of India's next coach was not on the agenda but the working committee was to ask the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman to finalise the name.
