According to the online learning platform Coursera, artificial Intelligence is the most in-demand subject, followed by its specialisations. As many as 2 million enrolled in the course in 2019. “With the growing relevance of new age skills needed to keep pace with the changing workplace, employers are acknowledging the importance for stackable credentials. They're ideally a way to reach the massive part of the world's population who likely won't ever have a chance to attend a top school, or in many cases, even a bad one. 
But, according to a <a href="http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2350964">new survey from the University of Pennsylvania</a> highlighted <a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2013/11/20/survey-mooc-students-are-elite-young-and-male-2/">by The Wall Street Journal</a>, the vast majority of people who sign up for the online courses have socioeconomic advantages. Enrollment skews overwhelmingly toward white people, men, the highly educated, and people from developed countries.
In short, it's the sort of elites who had access in the first place that are taking these courses out of curiosity or to advance their careers.
Of the survey's respondents, 83% report having some kind of post-secondary education, and at least 79.4% have a bachelor's degree. 
This divide is most pronounced in countries where relatively few people get tertiary education. In Brazil, Russia, India, and China, where only 5.1% of citizens have some college education, nearly 80% of MOOC takers have been to college. 
To be sure, the data provides only a snapshot, coming from 32 sessions of 24 different courses that have been offered by the University of Pennsylvania on Coursera. But considering that those courses have covered a full range of subjects, that Coursera is the largest provider of MOOCs, and the University of Pennsylvania is the second-most active school on the platform after Stanford, the trends are concerning.

Reaching the less educated in underdeveloped countries will always be a challenge. But the vision of granting access to people who otherwise wouldn't have it and reducing the cost of higher education hasn't materialized yet.
In fact, Udacity, one of the earliest and most prominent MOOC providers, is now <a href="http://www.fastcompany.com/3021473/udacity-sebastian-thrun-uphill-climb">pivoting towards providing corporate training</a> rather than education in general. Udacity is a for-profit company, as is Coursera. It seems that any effort geared towards reaching the most underserved populations isn't likely to be a money maker.

It also explains why students are moving towards managerial and creative skills to land a non-technical job. “As the supply of engineering students is much higher than their demand, it becomes extremely difficult for them to find a suitable job. As a result, students find their comfort in digital marketing training as there are endless opportunities for them in this field,” it added. These non-technical jobs include content managers, strategists, editors, SEO specialists, email marketing specialists, analysts, AI specialists, digital marketing managers and directors. However, the role it varies as per the candidate’s experience level. “Digital marketers are expected to have job-specific skills like analytical rigour, strategy making, problem-solving, and technological competency,” Internshala said. Interestingly, three in four students pursuing non-technical skills belong to engineering background. “Engineering graduates during their coursework acquire all of these skills and with their strong technical and mathematical skills, they produce exceptional results while working as digital marketers. Earlier, digital marketers were expected to plan and execute creative campaigns, but today in addition to creativity, professionals need to be data-driven too,” Internshala said. Become a professional Coronavirus expert with this online course offered by industry body

As against the two-year M.Tech program at IITs, the premier institutes are planning to execute M.Tech course for working professionals. 
 
A number of IITs are unable to retain their MTech students as they quit the course after landing jobs in public sector undertakings. In this regard, the M Tech programme could have more students complete their Masters. 
 
The move can help promote research work and increase revenue of IITs. IIT directors were seen discussing issues related to introducing executive MTech at the 155th meeting of IIT directors hosted by IIT-Kanpur last year in December. 
 
They feel there is no harm having sponsored MTechs by industry and the course could be charged for the actual cost. 
 
Curently, a number of IIMs and other B-schools already offer executive MBA programme for working professionals, but IIT's M.Tech course is the most cost-effective. Here's what the current M.Tech courses are offering. 
 
Compressed into a one-year programme, the executive M.Tech programme at IITs will be charged as per market rates. 
 
The final decision, however, is awaited. 
 
IIT directors of Bombay, Hyderabad and Roorkee are working out the details of this project. Once they reach a conclusion, the proposal will be sent to the IIT council, chaired by the HRD minister, for final approval.

However for corporates, soft skills like business communication are a non-negotiable requirement. This has led to an increased demand for <keyword id="650673" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Online-courses">online courses</keyword> in the domain. This is followed by the demand for courses in financial analysis and business fundamentals at 311% and 281%, respectively. The demand for soft skills like growth mindset, creativity, innovation and focus mastery witnessed the highest growth in enrollments on Udemy. “If I were to generalize a bit, then routine and mono-skilled roles will be replaced with specialists, insights-driven and multidisciplinary roles. Overall, the online learning enrollments witnessed a 200% increase. This may be because the employees too are working in a remote setu and they are now keen on acquiring new skills. “As a result of this pandemic, we are all being forced to learn.
