Myth: Using imported Chinese products can infect you from COVID-19 Fact: Since viruses do not survive long on objects like packages or letters, it is completely safe to use products from China, according to WHO. The virus is contagious but spreads from one person through another. Myth: A Chinese lab in Wuhan created the outbreak Fact: As the confirmed cases of Coronavirus started peaking, a rumour that the outbreak is man-made started doing the rounds. One of the versions was that a Chinese lab near Wuhan market -- the centre of the outbreak -- was working on a secret bio weapon that accidently got leaked. However, that is not true. Myth: Eating garlic and onion can cure coronavirus Fact: Eating garlic and onion is good for your health. However, it may not cure you from COVID-19 infection. A few social media posts suggest eating garlic or onion can keep you away from viruses, and cure you. While it indeed helps build immunity, it might not be an antidote, says WHO. Myth: Using cow dung and cow urine can cure virus Fact: Recently an Indian politician, Suman Haripriya, said that cow dung and urine can cure coronavirus. That is also false. Scientists around the world are still trying to discover a cure. Myth: Yoga can cure the virus Fact: Some of the politicians including UP CM Yogi Adityanath claimed that Yoga can cure coronavirus. It may help you lead a healthy life but is not a cure. Myth: Using antibiotics will help you Fact: Antibiotics can help you fight only bacteria. Coronavirus -- being a virus -- will remain unaffected. Therefore, you should not consume antibiotics as a precaution. But doctors are prescribing antibiotics to those infected with COVID-19 as the infected can catch bacterial infections too, says WHO. Myth: Coronavirus is transmitted from bat soup Fact: Recently, a video of a Chinese woman surfaced on the internet consuming bat soup. The video clip was widely circulated claiming that coronavirus is spread from bats. However, the clip is four years old. Previously, SARS was passed on from bats. Hence, people thought, the novel coronavirus is passed on from bats to snakes and then to humans. But bats are not yet linked with the virus outbreak. Myth: Only old people get more sick, young people don’t have to worry Fact: Most of the deaths so far have been of elderly or middle-aged people. But young people have also been infected with the virus. Myth: Pets can spread Coronavirus Fact: Currently, there is no evidence if pets can spread the virus. Myth: A new vaccine will be available soon Fact: Scientists are yet to discover a cure for the novel coronavirus. It is therefore critical that certain media outlets stop spreading false rumours and creating fear and even panic with the public. It's just incredible," Trump told reporters during a press conference at the White House, without taking the names of any media organisation.In the past Trump has identified organisations like The New York Times, The Washington Post and CNN as fake media. During his series of daily news conference – which has continued uninterrupted for about a fortnight now, Trump has quite often slammed the media and has entered into exchange of words with some of the White House correspondents."I could name them but it's the same ones always the same ones and I guess they are looking for ratings. I don't know what they're looking for. So bad for our country and so bad the people understand it," he said."You look at the levels and approval ratings and they are the lowest they have ever been for media. Trump urges media outlets to stop spreading false rumours on coronavirus

New Delhi, Feb 27 () Chicken sales in India have come down over 50 per cent and prices by 70 per cent in the last one month as speculation swirled on social media that chicken causes coronavirus disease, denting both demand and prices, a top Godrej Agrovet official said on Thursday. Godrej Agrovet Managing Director B S Yadav said its poultry arm Godrej Tyson Foods has also taken a beating as sales have dropped sharply by 40 per cent in last one month from 6,00,000 birds a week, he said. However, once the rumours die down and consumption rises in the next 2-3 months, there would be a shortage of chicken in the country causing sharp rise in prices, he noted. Yadav also mentioned that the government has issued advisories that coronavirus does not spread from chicken and asked state governments to take action against rumour mongers. "Chicken is safe in India but rumours on spread of coronavirus from chicken has dented demand sharply in our country by over 50 per cent in just one month and ex-farm gate prices have also fallen by 70 per cent," Yadav told reporters. Chicken sales have come down to 35 million birds a week from 75 birds a week across the country, while ex-farm gate prices have dropped over 70 per cent to Rs 35 per kg from Rs 100 per kg in last one month although the cost of production is about Rs 75 per kg, he said. "The entire poultry industry and farmers have been affected because of WhatsApp rumour about coronavirus spread from chicken. The surplus production has build up now which is being disposed at a lesser price," Yadav said. Godrej Tyson Foods sells both fresh and frozen chicken and value-added products in the brand name 'Real Good Chicken' and 'Yummiez'. The company has two chicken units in the country. The company is the largest chicken producer in the country followed by Venky's and Suguna Foods. Yadav also said per capital consumption of chicken in India is at 4.5 kg, lower than the global average of 11 kg. The consumption is highest in Tamil Nadu at 13 kg, while least in states like Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. He also asked people to avoid handshakes and start greeting others with 'namaste' once again. Modi was interacting with owners of Jan Aushadhi Kendras and beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojna (PMBJP) through video conference. "I appeal to my fellow countrymen to stay away from rumours regarding coronavirus," Modi said. We need to follow the advice of doctors in this regard, he said. People should avoid handshakes and start greeting others with 'namaste' once again, the Prime Minister added. New Delhi, Mar 2 () Poultry breeders on Monday demanded a relief package from the government claiming that the sector has incurred heavy losses of around Rs 1,750 crore in a month due to fake news that coronavirus was spreading due to chickens. Poultry bird prices have plunged to Rs 10-30 per kg at farm gate level due to a slump in chicken demand while the average cost of production is Rs 80 per kg, the All India Poultry Breeders Association (AIPBA) said in a representation to the Ministry of Animal Husbandry. "The repeated onslaught of social media with wrong information on consumers has shaken consumer confidence and depleted the demand for chicken products," AIPBA Chairman Bahadur Ali said. The loss of broiler farmers, integration companies and breeding companies put together was about Rs 1,750 crore during the third week of January till the third week of February, he said, adding that it has created "massive crisis" and forced poultry sector to "bankruptcy". Expressing concern that the "fake" coronavirus threat spread by social media among consumers has created a massive problem for the poultry sector, Ali said, "If these conditions persist in March going forward a loss of Rs 1,750 crore per month will be additional." This will also impact maize and soyabean farmers because without poultry there is no market for soyabean meal and maize in the country, he said, adding that maize prices have droppped from Rs 25 per kg to Rs 15 per kg in the last few days. Seeking a rescue package, the association requested the government to extend additional working capital and not to consider poultry farmers and companies' accounts receivables of more than 90 days as non-performing assets. It also demanded interest subvention of 5 per cent on loans extended to the poultry sector and a grace period of one year for repayment of the current term loans. Besides, the association asked the government to provide wheat and rice to the industry at a subsidised rate of Rs 10 per kg and allot minimum 30 lakh tonne from the government stock. The <a href="https://www.fogsi.org/">Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI)</a> has also <a href="https://www.fogsi.org/wp-content/uploads/covid19/fogsi-statement-on-covid-vaccination-in-pregnancy-and-bf.pdf">advised</a> that all pregnant females should get vaccinated as soon as possible. Personally, I would like to advise all pregnant women to take an informed decision to get vaccinated, considering the benefits of taking the vaccine definitely outweighs the risks associated with not taking the vaccine and contracting the virus. That said, it's prudent to check with your doctor before taking the vaccine because they would be best equipped to guide you, depending on your condition. Can breastfeeding women take the vaccine? Yes, they can. Gynaecological societies world over have said that it is safe to breastfeed. While the research is limited, so far, there are no known adverse effects on the baby. In fact, there is a passage of protective antibodies to the child, which may have a beneficial effect. However, the <keyword id="191419" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Health-and-Family-Welfare">Ministry of Health and Family Welfare</keyword>, India is yet to make changes in recommendations in accordance with other countries associations. It would be best if you got vaccinated as soon as possible irrespective of your periods. Will getting the vaccine have any kind of effect on your periods? No, not at such. But yes, anxiety and stress can definitely make your periods irregular so be calm and relaxed and get yourself vaccinated, especially now that the vaccine is available to every adult. Can the vaccine affect women's fertility? At the moment, there are no long-term studies regarding this, but scientifically it should not have any effect on the fertility of women well as men. COVID-19 vaccines and women’s health: Dispelling myths on periods, pregnancy and breastfeeding

New Delhi, Mar 6 () Kishore Biyani-led Future Group on Friday said it is investigating the "rumours" regarding its financial abilities, a list of lenders and debt numbers circulating on social media that have led to hammering of stock prices of its listed entities. Such "baseless rumours or messages" have apparently "impacted some of our listed company stocks in the last few days" and it may approach the "regulatory authorities for suitable action thereof", according to a regulatory filing by the group firm Future Retail. "Any such rumours, messages on the fundamentals or our operational and financial abilities as a Group are totally baseless and false," said Future Group founder Kishore Biyani. Referring to rumours that have been doing rounds and, specifically, one WhatsApp message portraying names of lenders and debt numbers for Future Group, Biyani said it is impacting its listed entities. "Apart from the weak market conditions emanating from the coronavirus fear, these baseless rumours or messages have apparently impacted some of our listed company stocks in the past few days," he said in a message to its stakeholders. "We are investigating into this and if required shall also be approaching the regulatory authorities for suitable action thereof," Biyani said. Future Group has presence in the Indian retail and fashion sectors, with popular supermarket chains like Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar, and lifestyle stores such as Brand Factory and Central. Mumbai, Jul 12 () Designer Riddhima Kapoor Sahni has slammed rumours that her mother Neetu Kapoor and brother, actor Ranbir Kapoor, have tested positive for COVID-19 and asked people to not spread misinformation. Soon after megastar Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan tested positive for COVID-19 and were admitted to a city hospital on Saturday, rumours started to spread that even Neetu and the "Sanju" actor are infected with the novel coronavirus. Dismissing the reports, Riddhima told , "Obviously not (true). Please stop spreading fake rumours. At least not at this time, would appreciate." Social media was abuzz with a tweet which claimed the Bachchans, who are at Nanavati Hospital, got the virus after Amitabh's grandson, Agastya Nanda, attended a birthday party hosted by Riddhima. The fashion designer also took to Instagram and called the claim baseless. "Attention seeking? Least verify/clarify! We are fit. We are good! Stop spreading rumours! #lunatics," she wrote . Amitabh and Abhishek on Saturday said that they had tested positive for COVID-19 and have been admitted to Nanavati hospital. "I have tested COVID positive. Shifted to Hospital. Hospital informing authorities, family and staff undergone tests, results awaited," Amitabh, 77, posted on Twitter. "All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested," he added. Abhishek, 44, said both his father and he had mild symptoms and requested everybody to be calm and not panic. Earlier today both my father and I tested positive for COVID 19. Both of us having mild symptoms have been admitted to hospital. We have informed all the required authorities and our family and staff are all being tested. I request all to stay calm and not panic. Thank you," Abhishek tweeted.
