 The Note 5 is powered with 3GB of Ram and 16GB storage with expandable memory using a <keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> card. It runs on <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> 6.0 and is powered by a 2500mAh battery. The dual Sim phone has a 13MP auto focus rear camera and 8MP front camera. In terms of the design the phone comes in two colors Grey and black and for a price of Rs. 8199 the phone with 5.0" display manages to look stylish. 
 Coolpad has put in design elements in order to up the style quotient of the phone. The company believes that design or look of the phone plays a major role in users looking to buy a new smartphone. While this is the first launch from the smartphone brand this year, the company is already working on bringing another smartphone in the market by May this year. Coolpad still remains an online only company partnering <keyword id="6370284" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Exclusive">exclusive</keyword>ly with Amazon, the company aims to be ranked No 1 exclusive handset brand on Amazon by end of the year.

Chinese mobile OEM Coolpad has announced its intentions to launch its range of smartphones in India, which is a very attractive market for new manufacturers as we've seen from the likes of Xiaomi, Gionee, Oppo etc. 
 
It is noteworthy, that Coolpad had earlier tied up with Reliance Communications to offer bundled CDMA devices but this is the first time it will be venturing solo in this space. 
 
The company's Dazen range of handsets will be launching in India soon, the company said in a statement. The manufacturer will possibly set up manufacturing units in parts of India to speed up supply. It is said that an R&amp;D facility will be launched in Bengaluru soon. 
The company will sell its smartphones in the Rs. 5,000 - 20,000 price segment, taking the likes of Xiaomi, Lenovo, Micromax, Motorola and ASUS head on. There's no word on whether the devices will be available as an exclusive through local retailers or if it will be sold through all major retailers in the country. 
 
In any case, it's good news for the Indian customers that a new budget friendly OEM is interested in setting up a base in the country. Increased competition can only mean good news for buyers as prices will inevitably see a fall. There is a also a buzz that Meizu (another popular Chinese brand) will be starting operations soon. 
 
Coming back to Coolpad, the Dazen brand is unheard of for most Indian customers, so the company will have to make sure that there is some awareness about its brand before launching devices in the country. For those unaware, the popular Micromax YU Yureka is a rebranded version of the Coolpad F2 smartphone. 
 
"We will use the strengths of Coolpad as a manufacturer and innovator and the intent is to build a software and services ecosystem solving needs of our customers that are mostly online buyers," said Varun Sharma, the CEO of Coolpad’s Indian wing.

Popular Chinese mobile manufacturer, Coolpad to bring its devices to India

Max, the latest smartphone from Cooplad, has been launched in India today, adding to the company's mid-range portfolio. The smartphone will be exclusively available on Amazon India from May 30 onwards, for Rs 25,000. 
 
The phone boasts of a unibody metal frame design, with a 5.5-inch Full HD display with 1080x1920 pixels resolution. Offering a 1.5GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 paired with 4GB of RAM, the phone takes care of providing enough processing power and has 2,800 mAh battery with fast charging capability. 
 
Talking of its memory, the phone comes with 64GB of internal storage, expandable with microSD card. It also features dual sim functionality, with Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. 
 
Coming with a 13MP rear camera with LED flash, it also has a 5MP front-facing camera. On the other hand, the connectivity options include 4G, LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS.

Coolpad Max launched in India for Rs 25000

Today, he has some bad news for Apple (and Samsung):
During today's discussions, we walked away with the clear message that the momentum remains with the China-based smartphone vendors, including Lenovo, Huawei, ZTE, Coolpad, and Xiaomi. The tone around Xiaomi was even more positive than in past trips, while Coolpad seems to be the most aggressive around pricing. 
We believe the momentum at the China-based brands is increasingly impacting Samsung, while Apple has already been struggling over the past 12-18 months. In the near term, we sensed disappointment around demand for the iPhone 5S. 
That said, we heard great enthusiasm around the potential for Apple to introduce a larger iPhone form factor in China this year with the iPhone 6. In our view, the iPhone 6 with a larger screen (e.g., 4.7-inch, 5.5-inch) has the potential to meaningfully accelerate Apple's growth trajectory in China during 2H:14. We have not heard this type of excitement in China around the iPhone in at least two years and thus we believe this could be a very special iPhone launch for Apple.
White is an Apple bull. He rates the stock a buy and has a $777 price target.

Analyst: I'm In China, And iPhone 5S Demand Is 'Disappointing' People

These Are The Companies That Control The Android Smartphone Market In China

<div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image">AP</div></div>Apple has just a sliver of the smartphone market in China, according to the latest numbers from IDC, <a href="http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/02/18/apple-gains-some-ground-in-china-smartphone-market/">via WSJ</a>.
Here, in order of size are the five biggest smartphone sellers in mainland China, per IDC:

<li>Samsung, 19%</li>
<li>Lenovo, 13%</li>
<li>Coolpad, 11%</li>
<li>Huawei, 10%</li>
<li>Apple, 7%</li>
<li>Xiaomi, 6%</li>
</ul>
Apple gained a percentage of share last quarter thanks to iPhone 5S sales, but as you can see, it's still a distant fourth.
The good news for Apple: Even with a small slice of the market, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-q1-earnings-2014-1">sales in China were up 20% last quarter</a>.
Even better news: The iPhone is now on China Mobile, the biggest carrier in China. That should help boost sales.
The truth of the matter is that the iPhone is expensive in China, and odds are that Apple will never lead in market share.
The Chinese market is big enough, however, that Apple can continue to grow sales at the high end, even with a tiny share of the market. Just don't expect mega growth.

Apple Gains A Measly 1% Of Market Share In China Last Quarter

It’s a riot in India’s burgeoning <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vijay+Shekhar+Sharma">smartphone</a> market. Chinese <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vijay+Shekhar+Sharma">smartphone</a> brands have turned it on its head forever. A recent IDC study revealed the top 5 Indian cities make up approximately 60% of the online <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=smartphone+sales">smartphone sales</a>. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Samsung">Samsung</a> came at the top in leading 30 Indian cities. More ‘value for money’ brands like <keyword id="71696" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Micromax">Micromax</keyword>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Lenovo">Lenovo</a> and <keyword id="11148" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Motorola">Motorola</keyword> followed. 
 While the numbers suggest the chaos is limited to the metros and tier I cities, tier II and III cities are expected to play a major role in the near future. At a time when the <keyword id="28168" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Smartphone">smartphone</keyword> market is growing 18% YoY and constitutes 40% of the 250 million units shipped to India, the dusty road is where the market lies. 
 
Business Insider sat down with the India Heads of two big bad boys in this war - <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Coolpad">Coolpad</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> to understand where this battle’s headed, and if there will ever be peace. 
 
What’s Changed – Everything 
The Chinese influx started way back in 2015. They saw an opportunity in the affordable smartphone market. Cut to 2016, that’s gone for good. Now, they’re up against home-grown brands like Micromax and Lava. Basically what Micromax did to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Nokia">Nokia</a> years ago? Marketing brands like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> have locked horns with the likes of <keyword id="13722" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Lenovo">Lenovo</keyword> and Motorola. The former doesn’t even have a brand ambassador in India! 
 Newer Chinese brands like <keyword id="1731609" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Oppo">Oppo</keyword> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> are kicking serious ass too. They’re bringing in the money power of their rich Chinese dads, but considering ROI on investment, it’s very difficult to sustain their current models due to stiff competition. 
 Remember, back in the days <keyword id="35621" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="e-commerce">e-commerce</keyword> players were offering subsidies to host online sales. After 2016, only the manufacturer will have advantage as the Flipkarts, Snapdeals and Amazons of India will not offer too much in discounts, and this will reduce cost-efficiency in business models. 
 
There are two options now - go offline with huge marketing investment, or stay online with a cost-effective model. 
 “There will be challenges in manufacturing and marketing”, <keyword id="3093045" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Syed-Tajuddin">Syed Tajuddin</keyword>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Coolpad">Coolpad</a> India Head accepts. 
 
By the end of 2016, most marketing brands will find it difficult to sustain. They’ll burn most of their liquidity. That’s where direct manufacturers come into the picture with long term goals. They will have extreme control on their supply-chains. 
 
Online Vs. Offline Game 
As the numbers suggest, Indian metros and Tier I cities already have mass online penetration. Till now, most Chinese brands weren’t even interested to look beyond, but are now being forced to because of the tax complications state governments have set up. Entering the offline market also means being cowed down by heavy investment for retailers and distributors. 
 
“Offline will remain and prosper. The only thing that might happen is that the offline sales in Metros might slip a bit into online”, Syed agrees. 
 Offline brands like <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword>, Lenovo and Micromax that still have a huge portion of the offline market, need to check inflation. You ask why? 
 
Because brands like Oppo have brought some of their Chinese distributors to India. These brands will give a tough time standing up to Indian brands, and it’s only a matter of time before Samsung feels some heat in its collar too. 
 
Rather than investing and promoting on the marketing front, brands like Micromax have to focus on improving their product’s value proposition. If you’ve noticed, Micromax hasn’t spent a fortune on advertising since the Sliver 5. 
 
Believe it or not, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> and Oppo are going into Tier II and Tier III cities, and holding small marketing campaigns there. Earlier the distributor drove sales, now it’s the brand. Indian brands are not able to cope up here. 
 
 “Just an online strategy will only help reach a certain consumer-base. We’re planning t have our own stores and offline distribution very soon. Half of our business in Feb came from the non-metros and non-Tier I cities”, Atul tells me. 
 
To reduce, or not to reduce – Price, that’s the question! 
In a day and age where the average life of a smartphone is down to less than a year in India, is there any chance of the price war cooling down anytime soon? 
 
“Around 30% customers, basically the young crowd will continue to focus on hardware vs. price. The high-end market will have an eye for aesthetics, and would prefer to have a look and feel”, Syed says. 
 “You have to be present offline to ensure you get the bigger consumer-base. We’ll launch into offline in the next 3-4 months”, <keyword id="350911" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Atul-Jain">Atul Jain</keyword>, India Head, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> says. 
 
If the hardware craze is limited to tier I and metros, does it matter if a phone is priced at Rs. 10k, Rs. 9,999 or Rs. 9,990? 
 
“It doesn’t matter. Price is just one component. The consumer decision is based on at least 6 factors like design, availability, battery and price. Consumers could be sensitive to pricing, and as manufacturers we’ve to take that into account”, Atul says. 
 
Do Flash Sales Work? 
 
Both <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Coolpad">Coolpad</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> agree flash sales can be used as a tool to drive initial volume. Brands with constraint in delivery in the first phase chose that model. By the time they catch up in terms of numbers, they open it for all. That was typically in a month or two. 
 
However, Indians are now wary of waiting. They have options. Micromax’s Yu brand previously did flash sales for over 3-4 months. Now their flash sales don’t last that long. 
 
Basically, two quarters on, there will be lesser flash sales. 
 
Increasing Market Share 
So how do you increase market share in a market overcrowded with fiery competition that’s baying for your blood? 
 
For one, the era of marketing is over. You have to significantly control costs. Supply chain will become the foremost focus, R&amp;D comes second. Ones you have R&amp;D, you can experiment, and the supply chain will help reduce cost. 
 
“We’re setting up a global R&amp;D centre in Bangalore that’ll work on software and screen technologies”, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> India Head says. 
 
In case you don’t live under a rock you must have noticed there are two segments for every ‘new’ smartphone brand, a regular model, with exceptional value proposition, and a flagship segment with high-end specs. 
 
“We’re coming up with a flagship soon. However, we’re very skeptical about marketing. Marketing gimmicks never work”, Syed says. 
 
Offline Prices 
Price and specs have been the biggest weapons for newer brands launching in India. The notion is that when you set up an offline distribution network, prices go up. That’s what happened with Samsung, and other brands too. However, if the prices are higher offline, it’s not fair to the consumer. 
 
“The distribution cost is what gets added when a product goes offline. That’s built into the overall costing”, Atul winks. 
 
Differentiation: 
So how do you create differentiation? It continues to be quality at affordable price. Atul let me in on a secret. They’re actually at a loss on a per device basis. 
 “We’re an ecosystem company unlike Samsung, <keyword id="6354427" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Apple">Apple</keyword> or Oppo, and can sell the <keyword id="310615" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Le">Le</keyword> 1S at Rs. 10,999 even when the industry pegs the cost of production at Rs. 16k. We can ensure that pricing because of our large volume in China and India, and don’t believe in making profits from hardware”, Atul says. 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> is perfectly fine with the loss. 
 
“For us phones are just screen, we have a 650 CDN networks of which 10 are in India. Nobody has that. It helps deliver content”, Atul says. 
 
The plan is <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=LeEco">LeEco</a> will churn content to earn that money back. Atul say that way the company can also monetize second hand phones. To conclude, they think they’ll win because they make it, and don’t just market it. 
 
“That’s the difference between us and marketing brands. We’ve been manufacturing in China for the last 24 years”, Syed boasts.

These could well be early renders, so the design bit is not final. However, there is no sign of fingerprint sensors. That could mean two things – the phone might use other, more advanced technology for biometric scans, or that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Oneplus">OnePlus</a> plans to trump competition with a whole new game-plan altogether. Coolpad has dared the rest to offer scanners, and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Oneplus">OnePlus</a> must be up for the challenge. 
 
The build materials are way different from the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=OnePlus+2">OnePlus 2.</a> The phone seems smoother, much in line with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=OnePlus+X+">OnePlus X</a>. Just hope the back panel is not a fingerprint magnet. 
 
Anticipated Specs: The expected specs seem much more practical. The source claims the <keyword id="2210217" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="oneplus">OnePlus</keyword> 3 will have a Snapdragon 820 processor paired a Full HD screen. This is no surprise as the Snapdragon 820 is likely to be the flagship chip of choice in 2016. 
 
Surprises: 
 
There are just a few surprises that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Oneplus">OnePlus</a> might through in. These include Secondary Camera Full HD recording, Fast Charging and NFC. It’s also hard to believe there won’t be ANY biometric scan option included. 
 
Last but not the least is the least is the launch date. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Oneplus">OnePlu</a>s has been releasing it’s flagship devices every 6 months. That way the OnePlus 3 should be here by March. Would it? Only time would tell.

3 Images leaked, and there’s no fingerprint scanner *sigh*

According to a new report from China Business News, a new mobile payments service called Android Pay is coming, and will likely launch in the third quarter of 2015.
Android Pay is reportedly being developed by China UnionPay, which is the biggest credit and debit card provider in China. For context, UnionPay is the second biggest payment network in the world next to Visa, based on the value of processed transactions.
Because of China UnionPay's expansive list of partners, Android Pay could feasibly debut with the support of more partners than Apple Pay, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-pay-is-coming-to-china-2014-9">which it also plans to support next year</a>.

UnionPay is likely to offer subsidies to smartphone makers to ensure popular smartphones will include the technology required for Android Pay to work.
Android Pay will be similar to Apple Pay and will utilize Near Field Communication (NFC) payments with Android smartphones, which will allow for wireless payments.
Apple recently announced the ability for Chinese Apple users to make payments using UnionPay's credit cards in its App Store, a collaboration that suggests Apple could work with UnionPay to bring Apple Pay to China.
There's no reason why UnionPay couldn't introduce Android Pay while also supporting Apple Pay in the future, but for now it appears that Chinese smartphone users won't have to wait too long to be able to purchase things at the store with a swipe of their phone.

As the year end draws close, here’s a comprehensive list of the top 5 phones launched in 2015. We judged each phone by the following parameters – features, specs, affordability and design. 
 
Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen) – Rs. 12,999 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Motorola+Moto+G+%283rd+Gen%29+">Motorola Moto G (3rd Gen) </a>was launched in July 2015, and boy did it impress buyers and experts alike! It came with a 5” HD Screen with 299ppi. 
 
Under the hood, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Motorola+Moto+G+%283rd+Gen%29+">Moto G</a> is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Processor and 2 GB RAM. It packs in 16 GB internal memory that can be expanded up to 32GB. As for the camera, it boasts of a 13 MP Primary Camera a 5 MP Selfie Camera. 
 
While the 2470mAh non-removable battery is it’s only sore point, its trump card really is it’s IPX7 Water Resistance feature that’s not available in several ‘high-end’ models. 
 
Verdict: Solid Mid Range Smartphone of 2015 
 
Coolpad Note 3 (Black) – Rs. 8,999 
 
Launched in October 2015, Coolpad Note 3 seemed to emerge as the killer in the budget category. 
 
The 5.50” beast has a resolution of 720*1280 pixels and is powered by a 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek 6753 Processor and 3 GB RAM. 
 
It also has 16GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 64GB. You also have a 13 MP Primary Camera and 5 MP Selfie Shooter. 
 
Apart from the usual connectivity options, the mammoth in the house here is the fingerprint scanner. Who expects stuff made for an <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=iPhone">Apple iPhone</a> on a ‘budget’ smartphone? To add icing on the cake, it’s also currently available in Black. 
 
Verdict: Budget Smartphone of 2015 
 
OnePlus 2 – Rs. 24,999 
 
Launched in July this year, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=OnePlus+2">OnePlus 2</a> was quietly rightly labeled the ‘2016 Flagship Killer’. This one had everything you wanted on steroids. 
 
Processor? - 1.8GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 
Ram? - 4GB 
Memory – 64 GB internal storage 
Battery and Display? – 5.5” Full HD Screen and 3300mAh battery. 
A: Um…but the OnePlus 2 doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner and a 21 MP Primary Camera.

Lenovo K3 Note – Rs. 9,999 
 
Launched early in March 2015, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=K3+Note">K3 Note</a> is for the ones who ‘want big’, except for their credit card statements. 
 
At Rs 10k, this 5.5” biggie has a Full HD Screen with an unbelievable 401ppi. Under the hood it’s a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 Processor that comes with 2 GB RAM. You also get 16 GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB. For the camera you get a 13 MP Primary Camera and a 5 MP front camera for selfies. 
 
Apart from its slight low 2900mAh battery, and the fact that it has some lags, the Lenovo K3 is the ultimate phone for the Indian who thinks ‘bigger is better’.

Motorola Moto E (Gen 2) – Rs. 4,999 
 
<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Moto+E+">Motorola Moto E</a> (2nd) is the titillating damsel you fantasize about. She’s the girl next door who’ll never let you down, and that’s the beauty of the deal.

It’s not for the gaming enthusiast or the selfie addict. Want to buy your mom/younger sibling their first smartphone? She’s the one to go with. BI India Smartphones Awards 2015

Eyeing its second most potential market after China, Shanghai‎-based smartphone maker <keyword id="2839888" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="PhiComm">Phicomm</keyword> is mulling to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=investment">invest</a> $1 billion, or Rs 6,400 crore in India in a phased manner. 
 
The company is planning to setting up five businesses in India by the end of 2017. The business units are <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=smartphones">mobile phones</a>, (<keyword id="1420905" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Small-Office-Home-Office">Small Office Home Office</keyword>) SOHO, Enterprise, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=cloud+computing">Cloud services</a> and Intelligent Cities. 
 
The company will decide the operations by March next year. 
 
"We are going to start with selling mobile phones and SOHO, then get our R&amp;D in place, then manufacturing base in place and the next is to bring in our data centres and Cloud services into India, so we can offer localise services off servers that are running out of Indian Soil," Jeffrey Fan, president of global sales at Phicomm, told Economic Times. 
 
A top executive told the financial daily that Phicomm would start with $1 million investment for setting up an R&amp;D unit either in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=gurgaon">Gurgaon</a> or <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bengaluru">Bengaluru</a>, and have a headcount of 50 employees. 
 
Reportedly, the company may also consider setting up a local brownfield assembly unit on its own or may consider a second option of beginning contract manufacturing​. 
 
Phicomm claims that it is a leader of S​OHO networking products, like routers, in China. It plans to launch these products in India by Diwali in India. 
 
"This year we are targeting $15 million revenue. Our overall investment including local staff, R&amp;D centre, data centre, etc would be about $1 billion," added Fan. 
 
Phicomm is also in talks with at least two state governments for full-fledged manufacturing unit and may take lead in terms of investments coming from China or Taiwan-based smartphone brands including Vivo, Meizu, ZTE's Nubia and Coolpad's Dazen. 
 
Fan added that India was their second largest potential market and that's the whole reason they have decided to enter with a full-fledged plan. 
ET reported that the Phicomm has less than 1% market share in China and its presence isn't comparable with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=huawei">Huawei</a> in the smartphone market. 
 
Meanwhile, Phicomm will launch-Energy 653- a 4G device priced under Rs 6,000 on August 10. 
 
“We started on 13th of June, we are expecting to exit a revenue in excess of $15 million this year, coming from sale of around 100,000 smartphones by the end of this year,” Fan told ET.
