You won’t be able to drive to Delhi’s <keyword id="90899" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Connaught-Place">Connaught Place</keyword> from February to April as the government is planning to de-congest the area. 
 
As part of a pilot project, middles and inner circles of Connaught Place will become pedestrian zones for three months starting February. 
Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu-led meeting cleared the pilot project. 
 
But don’t worry, you will be able to park your vehicles at Shivaji Stadium, Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Palika, from where you’ll get a free shuttle service to the market. 
 
Cycles, electric vehicles will be allowed in CP. 
 
"It would also study the experience of pedestrians and shop owners, management of reclaimed parking lots and the traffic load on the outer circle," an official said. 
 
As per reports, 3,172 cars can be accommodated at parking lots at Shivaji Stadium, Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Palika. But on an average only 1,088 vehicles are being parked. 
 
"There will also be sound and light shows, sidewalk cafes, public plazas and street festivals. The intention is to make CP a happening place," said an official who attended Thursday's meeting.

Delhi’s <keyword id="90899" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Connaught-Place">Connaught Place</keyword> has slipped one place to become the world’s eighth costliest office location, according to property consultant Coldwell Banker Real Estate (CBRE). Mumbai’s <keyword id="102951" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bandra-Kurla-Complex">Bandra Kurla Complex</keyword> (BKC) was ranked 16th and <keyword id="6391251" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nariman-Point">Nariman Point</keyword> 32nd in the list of Top 50 Costliest Global Office Markets. 
 
“At more than $150 per sq. ft. per annum, Delhi’s traditional central business district (CBD) of Connaught Place was ranked as the eighth most expensive office market in the world,” CBRE said. 
 
Last year, Connaught Place was ranked seventh while BKC and Nariman Point were at 15th and 32nd positions, respectively. 
“London’s West End remained the world’s highest priced office market, followed by Hong Kong (Central) and Beijing (Finance Street),” CBRE said. 
 
CBRE South Asia chairman &amp; MD Anshuman Magazine said, “This downward change in rankings in the CBD is due to a recovery in the global market. Locally, however, the demand levels remain stable and due to a lack of new supply, values remain high.” 
 
CBRE tracks occupancy costs for prime office space in 126 markets across the world. The survey provided data on the basis of office rents and occupancy costs as on 31 March, 2014. CBRE noted that Connaught Place remains highly sought after by corporate office occupiers because of its central location.

"The aim of this experiment is have Delhi come together like a family and avoid bursting firecrackers," said Kejriwal in a press conference today. The 'Community Diwali' will be held at Connaught Place from 26 October to 29 October in the evening between 6:00 and 10:00 pm. And, instead of fireworks to light up the sky, the Delhi government is going to be putting up a laser show. "The show will light up the Connaught Place shopping area with its lasers and lights," explained Kejriwal. Even though one laser show is only an hour long, it will play on an hourly cycle. "I've been getting calls over the past few days asking for passes to the event… There are no passes, everyone in Delhi is invited to attend for free," said Kejriwal. Kejriwal urged Delhi-ites to help lower the city's air pollution that normally spikes during the festive season. In addition to the laser show, Kejriwal is also promising a bazaar, food court, and cultural shows to keep visitors entertained. This time around Delhi's 'Community Diwali' is restricted to Connaught Place but it may expand to many more locations next year, if the experiment is successful. Now, NDMC has rolled out Khan Markets plans and people can register themselves using their mobile number and e-mail ids. Then a one-time password (OTP) is sent to the customer and they can access the internet for a short duration. If one wants to use this service further then one has to pay a nominal charge. Wi-Fi Internet scratch cards are available at various shops in the market, which the customers can purchase and use. 
 
The project has been running successfully in Khan Market since the past few days. However, Connaught Place is where the council is still not up yet. N-Block in Connaught Place is the only area where this service has been deployed properly and the rest of areas are underway to get Wi-Fi services. 
 
CP is much larger than Khan Market, hence the council is taking some extra time. Also, NDMC does not want the internet wires hanging from pole to pole. They will use the underground system for this, which is why they are taking more time.

Khan Market In Delhi Is The First Market To Deploy Free

According to CBRE Research's Global Prime Office Occupancy Costs bi-annual survey, Delhi's <keyword id="90899" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Connaught-Place">Connaught Place</keyword> is now world’s seventh costliest office destination, slipping one notch. 
 
As per the property consultant CBRE, Mumbai's BandraKurla Complex (BKC) is at the 19th position and Nariman Point at 34th. 
 
"With annual occupancy cost of USD 149.71 per sq ft, New Delhi's Central Business District (CBD) of Connaught Place ranks as the seventh most expensive prime office market in the world," CBRE said in a statement. 
 
Hong Kong (Central) is the highest-priced office market with an overall prime occupancy costs of USD 290 per sq ft per annum, followed by London-Central (West End) with annual occupancy cost of USD 262.29. 
 
Beijing (Finance Street), Beijing (Central Business District) and Hong Kong (West Kowloon) are at third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively. 
 
Tokyo (Marunouchi/Otemachi), London-Central (City), New York (Midtown Manhattan) and Shanghai (Pudong) featured in the list of top 10 most expensive office markets globally. 
 
According to the survey, Asia continued to dominate the list of the world's most expensive office locations, accounting for seven of the top-10 markets. 
 
Global prime office occupancy costs, which reflect rent, plus local taxes and service charges for the highest-quality, prime office properties, rose 2.4 per cent year-on-year.

<keyword id="90899" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Connaught-Place">Connaught Place</keyword>, which is modelled after <keyword id="2908181" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Royal-Cresent">Royal Cresent</keyword> in Bath, is one of the largest financial, commercial and business centres in the national capital. And now as per CBRE Research's semi-annual <keyword id="2908182" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Global-Prime-Office-Occupancy-Costs-survey">Global Prime Office Occupancy Costs survey</keyword>, CP, as what the locals call it, has been ranked fifth most expensive prime office mark in the world with a rent of around $157 per sq ft per annum. 
 
While with an overall occupancy cost of $267 per sq ft per annum, the top spot was secured by London West End, Asia continued to rule on four of the top five markets. 
 According to the survey, <keyword id="6369995" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bandra-Kurla-Complex">Bandra-Kurla Complex</keyword> (BKC), a business district in North Mumbai, stands at the 15th position while the city's CBD of <keyword id="6391251" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nariman-Point">Nariman Point</keyword> is at the 30th position. 
 
Anshuman Magazine, managing director of CBRE South Asia, told The Economic Times, "Although Delhi's Connaught Place moved up one spot in the rankings, due to the rupee depreciation; however, occupancy costs in this market remained largely stable due to a positive market sentiment.” 
 
He added, “Mumbai's BKC and Nariman Point showed a nominal decrease of less than 1 percent over a 12-month period; while y-o-y office occupancy costs rose by about 2.2 percent in the Bangalore CBD, broadly in line with global inflation."

Hotels in any city often have 20-40% free inventory round the year. Over the next 6 months, Bindal’s team will join hands with budget and premier hotels around their Connaught Place centre and get them onboard. The catch - they’ll typically need a minimum commitment of 15 days to a month from you. 
 
“Entire sections will be transformed into co-living spaces. Startups can work out of our centre, and live 10 buildings down the street. It’ll be a room with 2 beds on sharing basis. We’ll throw in food and ther services as well”, Bindal said. 
 
Monthly fees would be anything between Rs. 30-35k a month, while the daily rate is tentatively fixed at a costlier 2.5k. 
 
Going forward, Bindal is planning to expand his services into incubation as well. “One Cubate will be our own incubation programme. We’ll accept applications for our first batch from October this year. We’ll charge 6-7% equity for the knowledge, including funding.” he said. 
 
Bindal reveals he’s also working on an ‘Exchange Club’, a service where VCs can offer to sponsor startup seats in exchange of equity. The tentative rate is Rs. 5-10 lakhs against 3-4% equity. VCs can also offer to exchange equity against mentoring sessions. 
 
The good news is that while India is still waiting for its Apple or Google, when we have our very own Steve Jobs, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, they’ll have a fun story to tell, one where the lingering smell in their first office was of room freshner and not bike grease.

Samsung India D2C business senior director <keyword id="650893" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sumit-walia" source="Orion">Sumit Walia</keyword> told PTI that the trigger for expansion of premium experience stores follows the rise in share of its high-end products at brand stores and also two premium stores that were opened recently in Bengaluru and Delhi. "We are going on a rampage to go on expanding. We will open 15 premium experience stores like we have in Connaught Place and Opera House across nine cities by the end of this year. This format will be able to tap into the premium segment," Walia said. Samsung will add another 13 stores across nine cities -- Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chandigarh and Pune in phase 1. The company has opened the first premium experience store at Opera House in Bengaluru, which is spread over an area of around 33,000 square feet. It has opened another premium store in Delhi's Connaught Place spread in an area of around 4,000 square feet. Walia said that all premium experience stores will be operated by franchisees, where Samsung will showcase premium products suits based on lifestyle like work from home, living room scenario etc. "We have seen the share of our premium product doubling to 60-62 per cent at <keyword id="16993058" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung-brand-stores" source="Orion">Samsung brand stores</keyword> in the last 1.5-2 years. At the premium experience store in Bangalore it has gone up to 80 per cent. Customers now want more out of their product which we are able to showcase at these premium experience stores," Walia said. Samsung has 1,700 brand stores across India. He did not disclose the amount of investment that will go in opening the stores but shared that franchisee owners will hire field experts like gaming specialist, chef, photographer etc. at each unit. "The experts will be around half of the total workforce that each premium experience store will have," Walia said. Just before Delhi’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=odd-even+policy&amp;sortorder=effectivedate" data-type="tilCustomLink">odd-even policy</a> stages a comeback, the nation’s capital has got its first ever eco-friendly electric two-wheeler taxi service. 
 Looking to solve the problem of last mile connectivity, <keyword id="3309408" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Promto">Promto</keyword> has started its service last week and is doing close to 200 rides every day. That’s not too much given the volume of traffic in the city, but it’s a good start nonetheless. 
 
The Delhi based company was started by Nikhil Malik, Karan Chadha, Pawneesh Rampal and Romesh Kumar who came up with the idea of having a battery operated two-wheeler taxi service network. The battery operated bikes are equipped with in-built <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=GPS+systems&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">GPS systems</a>. 
 
The company currently has 20 such scooters, and the service is available from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Connaught+Place&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Connaught Place</a> (<keyword id="6356415" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Metro">Metro</keyword> station gate no. 7) to offer rides within a radius of 5 kms. While reach is an issue currently, affordability isn’t, as the two wheeler service is available for a mere Rs 5/kms. 
 
The taxi can be booked by calling on 82528-82528 or by hailing one from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Connaught+Place&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Connaught Place</a> metro station, gate number 7. 
 
Nikhil Malik, Promoter of Promto said, “Promto will help single office goers, students and general commuters experience the advantages of switching over to zero polluting electric mobility and reach last mile destinations from a public point such as metro stations or a busy bus terminal.” 
 
“Our battery operated bikes will be a visible alternative to immediately cut the emission as one electric bike is equivalent to reducing 1 ton of carbon dioxide emission in 3 years,” added Nikhil. 
 
Much like the Olas and Ubers of the transportation industry, Promto has a comprehensive insurance policy worth up to Rs 1 lakh for the drivers as well as the passenger for the duration of the bike ride. The company also claims all drivers go through stringent background verification and training before they’re put on the road. 
 
The company looks to expand its fleet to 500 battery-operated bikes in the next 6 months and over 10,000 electric bikes in the coming 3 years.
