What may perhaps be India's contribution to what's considered the best-selling chocolate bar in the world? Peanuts! The crunchy taste in Snickers will soon be Indian as <keyword id="237779" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mars-Incorporated">Mars Incorporated</keyword>, which makes the $2-billion chocolate bar brand, plans to source peanuts from Saurashtra for markets right from India and Middle East to South East Asia and China. 
 "From a quality perspective, it is very critical to gpeanuts of a particular variety. We are developing it with a couple of vendors based out of Saurashtra," Mars International India <keyword id="6460379" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="general-manager">general manager</keyword> MV Natarajan said. "India can even be the largest sourcing hub for peanuts," he said. 
 Mars currently does a bulk of peanut sourcing for Snickers bars - which come stuffed with peanuts - from <keyword id="5927" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Argentina">Argentina</keyword>. 
 
For companies, low level of aflatoxins, a type of toxin produced by molds that grow on peanuts and corn among others, is the deciding factor. While Mars follows a strict benchmark of 4 parts of aflatoxins per billion (ppb), the Indian benchmark of aflatoxin is around 30 ppb, while it is 10 ppb in the US. 
 Despite India being the world's second-largest <keyword id="6356809" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="producer">producer</keyword> of peanuts with nearly six-million tonnes annually, its share in the global market is restricted to raw peanuts, with negligible contribution in value-added products like peanut butter. 
 
Mars has teamed up with Gujarat-based Khedut Feeds to help farmers in Saurashtra produce high-quality peanuts with global expertise and best practices. 
 "Over the last few years, we have started an initiative - Project Saurashtra - by partnering nearly 40,000 farmers to educate them on growing high quality nuts and have better crop yield," said <keyword id="975823" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tushar-Patel">Tushar Patel</keyword>, <keyword id="2808110" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="director-at-Khedut-Feeds">director at Khedut Feeds</keyword>. Last month, Mars Inc - which also owns M&amp;M's, Twix, Milky Way and Bounty brands - announced it will <keyword id="47916" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="invest">invest</keyword> $160 million to open its first chocolate plant in India. 
 A year ago, <keyword id="2807967" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="AgroTech-Foods-Limited">AgroTech Foods Limited</keyword>, an affiliate of <keyword id="399082" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="ConAgra-Foods-Inc">Conagra Foods Inc</keyword>, announced the opening of its manufacturing unit near Bharuch in Gujarat to start local production of its Sundrop peanut butter for the first time in India. But not many companies are interested, say experts. 
 "Farmers in India hardly use latest infrastructure or technology that helps produce export quality peanuts," said <keyword id="195274" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sanjay-Bajaj">Sanjay Bajaj</keyword>, MD of Ahmedabad-based <keyword id="156468" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bajaj-Food-Products">Bajaj Food Products</keyword>, one of the first peanut butter manufacturer and exporter in the country. "Unless global companies partner them and bring best global practices, it is difficult to match other countries despite low prices in India," he said. 
 
There are other issues, too. Peanuts production is highly vulnerable to rainfall deviations and display huge fluctuation between years. Also, the domestic consumption is huge for peanut oil, and just 5-7 per cent of peanuts get exported to other markets.

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div><ul class="summary-list"><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/conagra-brands">Conagra Brands</a> is facing six lawsuits, with plaintiffs linking exploding cans of Pam and the company's other cooking sprays to massive fireballs and severe injuries.&#xa0;</li><li>According to the lawsuits, a faulty new can design that Conagra rolled out in 2011 is responsible for incidents in which leaking or exploding cans caused fires, resulting in horrific burns.</li><li>Conagra reportedly stopped using the new can design in January but has not recalled the cans.</li><li>One lawsuit describes an incident that is said to have taken place in April, in which a Conagra cooking spray can erupted and set a woman's hair, clothing, and body on fire, charring nearly 30% of her skin.&#xa0;</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories</a>.</li></ul>Conagra Brands - parent company of Slim Jim, Reddi-Wip, Orville Redenbacher's, and cooking sprays including Pam - is under scrutiny as people claim cooking spray cans made by the company exploded and burst into flames, resulting in serious injuries.&#xa0;On Tuesday, six lawsuits were filed against Conagra by individuals who said they were injured in cooking accidents involving cans of Pam or other cooking sprays. According to Koskoff Koskoff &amp; Bieder, the law firm that is representing each of the plaintiffs, the design of the cans can be directly linked to horrifying injuries.&#xa0;In one 2017 incident that was caught on camera, Reveriano Duran was working as a cook at a Baja Grill in Houston, Texas. <a href="https://www.koskoff.com/Defective-and-Harmful-Products/Conagra-Cooking-Spray-Incident-No-Audio.mp4">The video shows</a> Duran placing a can of Pam on a shelf near the grill. Suddenly, Duran, the grill, and a large portion of the kitchen are seen engulfed in a fireball.&#xa0;According to the lawsuit, the can began spraying flammable contents through its bottom vents and then exploded into flames. The lawsuit claims that Duran was seriously injured in the resulting fire, with burns, scarring and disfigurement.&#xa0;<h2>Here is the moment the can appears to explode:&#xa0;</h2>&#xa0;In a separate lawsuit, Y'Tesia Taylor claims that she was cooking at home in Greenville, Texas, using Pam spray she had bought at Walmart. The can of Pam exploded after she set it on a cart, and Taylor was engulfed in a fireball, her suit claims.&#xa0;Taylor's face, neck, chest, abdomen, and arms were severely burned, and she was placed in a medically induced coma for two weeks, according to the lawsuit. Her lungs were scarred from fire inhalation and her eye was damaged, as the fireball caused her contact lens to burn to her right eye in the flames, the lawsuit claims. It additionally states that she is now blind in her right eye.The most recent incident of the six lawsuits is said to have taken place this April, according to a lawsuit filed by Maria Mariani. A Conagra Brands cooking spray can erupted, the lawsuit claims, setting her hair on fire. The fire is then said to have moved to her clothes and body, charring nearly 30% of her skin.&#xa0;The other three plaintiffs report similar incidents involving exploding or leaking cans of cooking spray, resulting in fires and horrific burns and injuries.&#xa0;The lawsuits link all six incidents to a new can design that Conagra rolled out in 2011. The bottom of the cans feature a venting mechanism that plaintiffs claim is faulty and dangerous.&#xa0;Conagra Brands did not respond to Business Insider's request for comment on the lawsuits.&#xa0;"It is beyond irresponsible that, to increase profits, Conagra Brands made and sold cans of household cooking spray that are susceptible to explosion, choosing not to use the safer designs as it had for the last sixty years, and failed to warn consumers about the very serious risks," J. Craig Smith of Koskoff Koskoff &amp; Bieder said in a statement.Smith points out that Conagra has not recalled the cans that feature the bottom vents that are said to be faulty. Buffett, Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, Expedia Chairman Barry Diller, and Dodgers co-owner Earvin "Magic" Johnson were among some of the more high-profile business leaders on the list. Other notable leaders from tech companies like Yelp, Netflix, Airbnb, and Google parent company Alphabet <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/tech-ceos-endorse-hillary-clinton-2016-6">were also on the list</a>. Many observers weren't entirely shocked at some of the names supporting Clinton - Buffett and Sandberg, for example, are longtime Democratic supporters.But the list came as Clinton's campaign has increasingly focused on touting high-profile Republicans who have been turned off by Donald Trump, and instead are backing Clinton."I have consistently voted for Republicans for President," former General Motors CEO Dan Akerson said in the release. "Serving as the leader of the free world requires effective leadership, sound judgment, a steady hand and most importantly, the temperament to deal with crises large and small. <keyword id="6378093" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="McDonalds">McDonald's</keyword> Corp on Friday said it plans to end its 40-year relationship with ketchup maker H.J. <keyword id="141837" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Heinz">Heinz</keyword> Co, since that company is now led by Bernardo Hees, the former chief executive of hamburger rival <keyword id="33542" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Burger-King">Burger King</keyword> Worldwide Inc.
"As a result of recent management changes at Heinz, we have decided to transition our business to other suppliers over time," McDonald's said in a statement.
"We have spoken to Heinz and plan to work together to ensure a smooth and orderly transition," said McDonald's, which has more than 34,000 restaurants around the globe.
A spokesman for Heinz did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The switch will be more apparent overseas than in the United States, since McDonald's only serves Heinz ketchup in two domestic markets - Pittsburgh and Minneapolis, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on Friday.
The move from McDonald's could benefit Heinz ketchup rivals Hunt's, owned by ConAgra Foods Inc, and Del Monte.
Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and an investment fund affiliated with 3G Capital bought Heinz for $28 billion in June and immediately named Hees CEO.
Burger King went public in June 2012, less than two years after it was taken private by 3G Capital Management LLC, which retains a stake in the fast-food chain.
