<ul class="summary-list"><li>Dunedin Airport has limited farewell hugs to three minutes at its dropoff zone.</li><li>The aim is to keep traffic moving at New Zealand's fifth-busiest airport.</li></ul><p>An airport in New Zealand has caused a stir over drop-offs after imposing a three-minute curb on farewell hugs.</p><p>Dunedin Airport in New Zealand's South Island erected a sign reading: "Max hug time three minutes. For fonder farewells please use the car park."</p><p>The rule applies only to the drop-off zone. Parking is free for the first 15 minutes and $1.80 for half an hour.</p><p><span>Dunedin airport CEO Dan de Bono </span><a target="_blank" href="https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/checkpoint/audio/2018958759/dunedin-airport-introduces-time-limits-for-drop-off-zones"><span>told Radio New Zealand</span></a><span> that his team was having "a bit of fun" with the restriction, which he said was more about "enabling others to also have hugs."</span></p><p>De Bono added that some travelers had previously used the zone to engage in last-minute <span>amorous acts</span>. "Our staff have seen some interesting things over the years," he said.</p><p>Critics of the rule on social media say it is inhumane and unnecessary. De Bono said the notice was to politely ask passengers to move on and provide space for others rather than police public displays of affection.</p><p>He said people breaking the rule will not face serious consequences and will, at most, be asked to move along by airport staff.</p><p>According to its <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.dunedinairport.co.nz/assets/financial-reports/Annual-Report-and-Financial-Statements-and-Audit-Opinion-2023-FINAL.pdf">2023 annual report</a>, Dunedin Airport was the fifth-busiest airport in New Zealand, with 920,349 passengers that year.</p><p>Parking charges can generate a significant amount of income for airports.</p><p><span>"Parking is a key revenue source for airports worldwide," Kim Crafton, director of marketing and air service development at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina told </span><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/travel/airport-parking-reservations-full-lots-2d0cd3fd"><span>The Wall Street Journal in May.</span></a><span> Last year, parking revenue at Columbia was 20% higher than airline revenue, the publication said. </span></p><p>According to an analysis of corporate filings by <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.thetimes.com/business-money/companies/article/airports-make-2m-a-day-from-parking-charges-as-prices-take-off-7plbqfqhx">The Times</a>, the UK's four largest <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-private-wireless-connectivity-changing-airport-experience-aviation-mwc-2024-10">airports</a> — Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, and Stansted — took nearly $2.6 million a day in car parking <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tulum-airport-review-location-airlines-2024-7">charges</a> from travelers last year.</p><p>Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport — consistently the world's busiest airport — requires a $3 hourly fee for the first two hours of short-stay parking. Meanwhile, Dubai International Airport <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" class="c-link" href="https://www.damacproperties.com/en/blog/dubai-international-airport-parking-fees-complete-guide-2378">charges</a> around $6.80 for one hour of economy parking.</p><p>A recent <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://media.rac.co.uk/pressreleases/cost-of-dropping-off-friends-and-family-reaches-record-high-as-fees-increase-at-seven-uk-airports-3334594">analysis</a> by British <span>automotive services company </span>RAC found that, in the UK, just three of the top 20 <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/18-firearms-a-day-intercepted-airports-majority-loaded-tsa-says-2024-10">airports</a> retain free drop-off zones.</p><p>"Our research also clearly shows that a major reason for driving and dropping off is the practical challenges of traveling with heavy and bulky luggage, especially if you have elderly or very young people in tow," said RAC senior policy officer Rod Dennis.</p>

An airport sick of cars clogging its drop-off zone imposed a 3-minute cap on hugs

<ul class="summary-list"><li>JetBlue Airways announced plans to build its first-ever airport lounges.</li><li>The first lounge will come online at New York's JFK International next year with Boston to follow.</li></ul><p><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jetblue-mint-business-class-apartment-studio-jfk-edinburgh-scotland-2024-5">JetBlue Airways</a> plans to build its first airport lounges, it announced Thursday.</p><p>The new lounges, the first of which are set for New York's JFK International and Boston Logan International, are part of the New York-based carrier's continued push to bolster its premium <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/review-jetblue-mint-business-class-paris-lie-flat-seats-2023-7">Mint business class experience</a>.</p><p>"Customers have asked for a JetBlue lounge for years, and we can't wait to unveil our take in New York and Boston," Jetblue President Marty St. George said in a press release.</p><p>The first lounge is set to open in New York in late 2025. The 8,000-square-foot facility will be located in Terminal 5, JetBlue's head of marketing, Jayne O'Brien, told Business Insider.</p><p>In Boston, a larger, 11,000-square-foot facility would be located in the airport's Terminal B to C connector,</p><div type="image" title="JetBlue terminal 5 at JFK." height="4054" width="6082" msid="113501927" hostid="261" sizebytes="1089532"></div><p>Access to the new lounges will initially be limited to transatlantic Mint customers, holders of the airline's soon-to-be-announced premium credit card, and the highest tier (level 4) members of JetBlue's TrueBlue Mosaic loyalty program.</p><p>"Initially, we want to see how this goes and approach it very carefully so that we don't have overcrowded lounges and disappointed customers," O'Brien said of the decision to limit initial access to the lounge.</p><h2 id="84bbec34-9e1e-4b53-a327-2bf0a6c2224e">Lounges were a glaring hole in JetBlue's Mint experience</h2><p>JetBlue was established more than a quarter century ago as a single-cabin, low-cost carrier that delivered the comforts and service of a pricier mainline carrier.</p><p>That changed in 2016 when the airline launched its first <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/comparison-jetblue-mint-business-economy-class-even-more-space-seat-2023-8">Mint premium business class cabin with lie-flat seats</a>.</p><p>While <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/upgrade-to-jetblue-mint-business-class-cabin-worth-it-2024-6">Mint's in-flight product</a> has been very well received by critics and the traveling public, the lack of a dedicated airport lounge dampened the cabin's overall competitiveness.</p><p>The airline has attempted to address this shortcoming by offering complimentary members to Priority Pass through its co-branded credit cards.</p><p>JetBlue customers also briefly had access to American Airlines Admirals Club lounges through the carriers' Northeast Alliance partnership, which was dissolved in July 2023 after a federal judge ruled it violated antitrust laws.</p><div type="image" title="American Airlines JFK Airport Lounge" height="1666" width="2500" msid="113501930" hostid="261" sizebytes="216858"></div><p>According to O'Brien, the airline is taking a measured, wait-and-see approach to establishing additional lounges across the Atlantic or at its other major operational hubs in the US.</p><h2 id="b3146b00-52b9-4ee2-a44b-56e4033c3101">Loyalty is big business for airlines</h2><p>For the airline industry, loyalty extends beyond the benefits of return business.</p><p><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/airlines-rewards-programs-investigation-united-delta-american-southwest-2024-9">Selling frequent-flyer miles to credit card</a> companies to be offered as customer rewards has become a highly lucrative source of extra income for airlines in recent years.</p><p>A major selling point for these airline credit cards, some of which can cost consumers more than $500 a year in fees, is <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chase-airport-lounge-vs-amex-centurion-compared-laguardia-nyc-2024-9">the prospect of lounge access.</a></p><p>In 2023, Delta earned $6.8 billion from American Express, while American Airlines made $5.2 billion from its Citi Mastercards and other partners, for example.</p><p>JetBlue generated just $422 million in loyalty-related revenue during that same period, helping pad an otherwise <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-airlines-are-struggling-despite-record-travel-demand-profits-revenue-2024-6">rough few months of financial performance. </a></p><p>With the new lounges in its arsenal, the airline will be better positioned to keep loyal customers coming back. It should also bolster the revenue generated from its <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/credit-cards/jetblue-plus-credit-card-review">JetBlue Mastercards.</a></p><p>"Our core, most valuable customers are telling us that lounges are important to them, so that is why we're doing this now," O'Brien said.</p>

JetBlue is fixing its business class' biggest weakness by building its own airport lounges

<ul class="summary-list"><li>TSA agents criticized the special crew-member lane as a safety risk after smuggling incidents.</li><li>Four flight attendants were charged with smuggling $8 million using the lane at JFK.</li></ul><p>Airport security officers have concerns over the special crew-member lanes that enable <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/things-people-should-never-do-on-airplanes-flight-attendant-tips">flight attendants</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/married-to-an-airline-pilot-benefits-pros-cons-2024-4">airline pilots</a> to bypass typical <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tsa-precheck-security-etiquette-to-get-through-fast-2023-10">passenger screening procedures</a>.</p><p>The lanes were implemented in 2011 under the Known Crewmember Program — a joint initiative by the Transportation Security Administration, Airlines for America, and the Air Line Pilots Association, International.</p><p>However, former and current TSA agents told Business Insider the lanes were "terrible" and that cabin crews could be "a bigger flight risk than the passengers themselves."</p><p>Criticism of the KCM is mounting, particularly after four flight attendants were accused of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/flight-attendants-used-special-lane-jfk-smuggled-millions-drug-money-2024-5">smuggling millions of dollars in drug money</a> out of the US using the lane at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.</p><p>Charlie Hernandez, 42, Sarah Valerio Pujols, 24, Emmanuel Torres, 34, and Jarol Fabio, 35, were arrested earlier this month. Prosecutors said they managed to smuggle $8 million in "bulk cash" between 2014 and 2023.</p><p>Delta Air Lines <a target="_blank" rel=" nofollow" href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/4-flight-attendants-arrested-accused-taking-millions-drug-money-domini-rcna151312?utm_source=flipboard&amp;utm_content=topic%2Fcrime"><u>confirmed to NBC News</u></a> that two defendants worked for it.</p><p>Flight attendants can be paid off by drug dealers to smuggle illegal substances or cash and tend to be found only when they are subjected to random searches, <a target="_blank" href="https://nypost.com/2023/01/14/inside-the-sky-high-world-of-drug-smuggling-flight-attendants/">the New York Post reported</a>.</p><p>"It stands to reason that this [smuggling by flight attendants] is commonly done," Dennis Ring, a lawyer who represented a convicted flight attendant named Marsha Gay Reynolds, told the outlet.</p><p>There have been multiple instances of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/jetblue-airways-plane-flight-attendant-sentence-lax-drug-cocaine-smuggle-luggage/42485/">airline crew being caught</a> after trying to "abuse these privileges," Ben Schlappig <a target="_blank" href="https://onemileatatime.com/news/flight-attendants-drug-money-scheme/">wrote in an article for the travel site One Mile at a Time</a>.</p><p>"Of course, a vast majority of airline employees follow the rules, though with the volume of people using these checkpoints, there are going to be some bad apples," Schlappig said.</p><h2 id="6f199902-345b-4537-8b13-dd0c7ae32e2e">'KCM should be eliminated'</h2><p>TSA agents told BI these stories of cabin-crew wrongdoing "completely breach the trust that we put in them." BI spoke with seven agents who were granted anonymity because of strict internal rules about talking to the media. Their identities are known to us.</p><p>One agent said the KCM was "terrible" and that some of the crew members they had interacted with had "worse attitudes" than passengers who go through regular screening. Another described crew members as "cocky."</p><p>When passengers bring something they shouldn't through security, more often than not, it's a mistake, another agent said.</p><p>"Crew, on the other hand, know exactly what they are doing," they said.</p><p>"I truly do think KCM should be eliminated," one agent said.</p><p>"Time and time again, we have seen that the crew members get so much 'trust' just because they're crew and they're the ones doing the illegal shit," this person added.</p><p>Most agents said they believed crew personnel should have their own lines and be screened separately but that security measures right now were far too lenient.</p><p>An Airlines for America spokesperson told BI that "the safety and security of our passengers and crews is the top priority of US airlines."</p><p>The KCM "is a TSA-approved program that has been in successful operation for 12 years," they added.</p><p>"Transportation Security Officers conduct security screening for prohibited items at airport checkpoints and checked baggage screening," a TSA spokesperson told BI.</p><p>"If they find something suspicious, such as items that could be illegally transported, they alert local law enforcement, who in turn works with our criminal investigators in our investigative division and other federal partners," they added.</p><p>The Air Line Pilots Association, International, did not return a request for comment.</p><h2 id="17d84ac5-fedf-4f1d-a5b5-d5e9cc326aeb">Bad apples and loopholes</h2><p>Caleb Harmon-Marshall, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ex-tsa-agent-travel-tips-getting-through-security-frozen-water2024-1">a former TSA agent who spent eight years </a>in that role and the founder <a target="_blank" href="https://gateaccess.substack.com/">of the newsletter Gate Access</a>, told BI that the KCM has been controversial since it was implemented in 2011.</p><p>"If you're seeing all of these incidents, why has nothing been done to correct it?" he said.</p><p>Harmon-Marshall said there's a "low-key love-hate relationship" between cabin crew and TSA officers, with the latter often critical of the KCM and flight attendants enjoying the privilege.</p><p>For example, there's no limit on how much liquid they can bring in their hand luggage.</p><p>However, Harmon-Marshall said airlines should do a better job of educating their crews about the dangers of the program, particularly when a flight crew is walking around in their uniforms.</p><p>'"When you have a layover internationally, sometimes it's dangerous for you to broadcast that your flight attendant because people will come up to you and they'll try to offer you something," he said.</p><p>Being offered tens or maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars to smuggle something could be tempting, Harmon-Marshall said, especially if they're struggling financially.</p><p>"And sometimes it's dangerous situations where they'll threaten your family," he added. "It's very scary."</p><p>Harmon-Marshall posted a TikTok asking cabin crew members and TSA agents about what they thought about the KCM, and many people who responded said the system should change.</p><p>"I get randomly selected seven out of 10 times," one person who said they were a crew member commented. "I would prefer to just have a crew lane to have my bags scanned. It would make my already unpaid time easier to plan for."</p> <p>Harmon-Marshall said the KCM was a great tool and that he still believed flight crew should be given a certain amount of trust because they'd earned it.</p><p>But the loopholes make him "uneasy," he said, adding that it's time for the agencies behind the KCM to "rethink things."</p><p>"I think that passengers should be very aware of the loose ends that some of these programs have," he said. "And KCM has some, and unfortunately, one bad apple ruins the bunch."</p>

TSA agents think the crew-member lane at airports is a huge security flaw that staff abuse for smuggling

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Nine people have been charged or sought in connection with a big gold heist last year.</li><li>The gold theft at Toronto Pearson airport was the largest in Canadian history, police said.</li></ul><p>An Air Canada worker and several others have been charged or sought in connection with a huge <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/thieves-steal-gold-valuables-worth-15-million-toronto-pearson-airport-2023-4">gold heist </a>at Canada's busiest airport in April last year.</p><p>The thieves stole 20 kilograms of gold bars worth about C$20 million ($14.5 million) and C$2.5 million of foreign currency, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.peelpolice.ca/modules/news/index.aspx?newsId=994a45b8-a543-4b92-9734-cde1b14df355">Peel County Police</a> said in a statement.</p><p>Authorities said the gold and cash were taken from a cargo plane from Zurich, Switzerland after it landed at Toronto Pearson International Aiport and then put into a suspect's truck.</p><p>The 6,600 gold bars and the foreign currency were supposed to go to a bank in Toronto before being stolen.</p><p>"This particular theft has become the largest gold theft in Canadian history," Peel Regional Chief Nishan Duraiappah <a target="_blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRkOIIvhdgM">said at a news conference</a> held in front of the suspect's seized truck.</p><p>It's "one we jokingly say belongs in a Netflix series," he added.</p><p>The heist was organized by people both inside and outside the airport facilities, police said.</p><p>Peel police have identified and charged or issued warrants for nine individuals with more than 19 charges. </p><p><span>Parmpal Sidhu, 54, an Air Canada employee, was charged with </span>theft over $5000 and conspiracy to commit indictable offence. </p><p>An arrest warrant has been issued for <span>Simran Preet Panesar, 31, a former Air Canada employee who was employed at the time of the theft. He </span>gave the police a tour of the airport facility and later resigned from the airline, before being identified as a suspect.</p><p><span>Lead investigator Mike Mavity said the suspects "needed people inside Air Canada to facilitate this theft."</span></p><p>Air Canada spokesman Peter Fitzpatrick <a target="_blank" href="https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/pearson-airport-heist-arrests-1.7176041">told CBC</a> that two suspects individuals worked for the airline's cargo division when the theft occurred.</p><p>"One left the company prior to the arrests announced today and the second has been suspended. As this is now before the courts, we are limited in our ability to comment further," he said.</p><p>Some of the stolen gold was melted down and used to buy illegal firearms, police said.</p><p>The Philadelphia Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives arrested a man in the United States who had 65 illegal firearms in his possession.</p><p><span>Canadian investigators also seized a kilogram of gold, smelting equipment, and cash worth about C$434,000.  </span></p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/gold-outlook-rally-fed-interest-rates-bitcoin-dollar-bond-yields-2024-4">Gold</a> can be transformed in different forms, making it harder to track down once it's been stolen. Air Canada worker among 9 charged or sought over record airport gold heist

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Hundreds of private jets are expected to flood Las Vegas this weekend for Super Bowl LVIII.</li><li>Parking space is limited to only about 500 spots across four Vegas-area airports.</li></ul><p>Some <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/economics-super-bowl-las-vegas-billion-dollars-new-orleans-2024-2">330,000 people are expected to visit Las Vegas</a> this weekend as the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.</p><p>Half are likely to arrive by air, Clark County Department of Aviation spokesperson Heidi Hayes told Business Insider, and the rich and famous among them will largely travel <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/burning-man-private-black-rock-airport-flights-leave-no-trace-2023-9">via private plane</a>. Either way, it takes a village to safely coordinate the massive spike in operations.</p><p>The Federal Aviation Administration said it has added around 3,500 additional takeoff and landing slots for the Super Bowl weekend, noting it is working with law enforcement, the aviation community, and the National Football League.</p><p>The additional flights are part of a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.faa.gov/superbowl/LTA_SBLVIII">slot</a> system managed by the FAA and the NFL, which covers several Vegas-area airports and helps mitigate oversaturation in the airspace during the busy weekend.</p><p>These include Sin City's main Harry Reid International Airport, as well as Henderson Executive Airport, North Las Vegas Airport, and Boulder City Airport in the suburbs. The latter three primarily handle <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/flew-out-of-general-aviation-airport-now-dread-commercial-flying-2022-1 ">charters and general aviation flights, not scheduled airlines</a>.</p><p>Speaking to the Henderson and North Las Vegas airports, Hayes told BI there are about 1,100 slots across the two. She said the airport slot doesn't come at a cost, but both charge a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/private-jets-arrive-airport-sun-valley-billionaire-summer-camp-2023-7">special event</a> landing fee ranging between $750 and $3,000, depending on the size of the plane.</p><p>"The reservation slots for landing and departing are double the price they normally are for the Big Game in other cities," a spokesperson for private aviation company Flexjet told BI, noting only two Vegas-area airports can handle larger private aircraft.</p><p><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/see-inside-75-million-private-jet-bedroom-bombardier-global-7500-2022-4">Private charter company VistaJet,</a> another jet provider seeing high demand for the game, said the landing availability in the Las Vegas region was full by mid-January, noting the company recorded a 25% increase in flight bookings compared to last year's game.</p><p>"We proactively secured accommodations for our clients well in advance," VistaJet US president Leona Qi said. "Now, Los Angeles is one of the nearest locations with availability."</p><h2>Private plane parking is limited in Las Vegas</h2><p>Securing an airport slot is one challenge, but finding parking is proving to be another, as spots are limited to only about 500 planes across Las Vegas, the FAA told BI.</p><p>According to the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.faa.gov/superbowl#parking-reservations">agency</a>, Super Bowl parking spot reservations are handed by aircraft service stations known as fixed-based operators, or FBOs.</p><p>These handle things like parking, maintenance, passenger handling, and fueling. FBOs are separate from airline terminals and are regularly used by private travelers <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/flew-out-of-general-aviation-airport-now-dread-commercial-flying-2022-1">to skip the crowded passenger gates</a> and busy security lines at large airports.</p><p>Like the landing slots, those parking spots are also already full, an FAA spokesperson <a target="_blank" href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-taylor-swift-aircraft-parking-vegas-ab346952d6ecd411cfedb06387c8ddbd">told</a> the Associated Press.</p><p>"The ramps in Vegas will be overwhelmed," private aviation provider flyExclusive CEO Jim Segrave told BI, noting last-minute parking spots will be difficult to find. "People will have to take what they can get at this point."</p><p>Adding to the congestion is the LIV Golf tournament, also being held in Las Vegas this weekend. The same problem occurred last year when the WM Phoenix Open and the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/most-popular-airports-private-jets-pj-jet-tracking-list-2023-12">Super Bowl both took place in Glendale, Arizona</a>, which sold out the 1,100 parking places available across its area airports, Breitenfeldt said.</p><div type="image" title="Private planes at Scottsdale Airport." height="2400" width="3600" msid="107502740" hostid="261"></div><p>To prep for the influx in ground activity, one of the FBOs managing private jets at Harry Reid, Signature Aviation, is adding another 30 workers to its Las Vegas location — representing a 50% increase in staff, the company's west region VP, Niall Mulcahy, told BI.</p><p>The FBO is also bringing in more ground equipment, like refuelers, power units, and tugs: "Formula 1 served as a great template for the Super Bowl," Mulcahy said, referencing the Grand Prix race hosted in Las Vegas in November.</p><p>Instead of parking, some travelers will do a "drop-and-go" by sending their planes to be parked at an airport further away. Power revealed its <a href="https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2021-north-america-airport-satisfaction-study">2021 North America Airport Satisfaction Study</a>, naming Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport as the top large airport in the US, earning 844 out of a possible 1,000 customer satisfaction points.</p><p>The data analytics company looked at six areas of interest when ranking each airport, including, in order of importance from most to least, terminal facilities; airport arrival/departure; baggage claim; security check; check-in/baggage check; and food, beverage, and retail.</p><p>Large <keyword id="11921290" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="airports" source="Orion">airports</keyword>, which J.D. Power defines as having 10 to 32.9 million passengers per year, received an average score of 805, up 25 points from 2020. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/jd-power-reveals-top-mega-airport-in-terms-customer-satisfaction-2021-9">Mega airports</a>, which the company defines as having over 33 million passengers per year, received an average score of 798. Overall, customers gave a record-setting average score of 802 for all US airports in the 2021 study.</p><p>According to J.D. Power, customer satisfaction was skewed over the year, with the best scores occurring from July 2020 to January 2021 and falling from January 2021 to July 2021. Company analysts say this is because of customer expectations. In the first half of the study, the pandemic was still raging and customers were simply happy to see some amenities available at airports, while in the second half during the <keyword id="11896628" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="travel" source="Orion">travel</keyword> boom they expected more, but were disappointed with the number of open shops and restaurants.</p><p>"Airport customer satisfaction reached all-time highs when passenger volumes were severely suppressed by the pandemic, but as leisure travel rebounded sharply throughout the spring and summer of 2021, we saw an expected downturn in satisfaction. Ultimately, the data conveys changing expectations among travelers. Early in the pandemic, passengers were satisfied with any shop or restaurant being open, but they now expect full service at the airport," explained Michael Taylor, travel intelligence lead at J.D. Power.</p><p>According to J.D. Power, passenger volumes have increased to 75% of pre-pandemic levels, but many travelers are arriving at airports with limited food, beverage, and retail vendors.
