<p>A spokeswoman for the Sunshine Coast Regional Council said Palmer's plan to erect up to 160 animatronic dinosaurs at his Coolum Resort was approved "unanimously by council this morning", with local officials hoping for a tourism boost.</p>
<p>The exhibit will include five Tyrannosaurus rex robots, the largest towering at 8.5 metres (28 feet) in height, as well as a 10-metre Ruyangosaurus. The creatures, which are on order from China, will move their tails and chests and blink their eyes.</p>
<p>There are already two specimens on display at Coolum, north of Brisbane, and a third under construction, a Palmer spokesman told <keyword id="68053" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="AFP">AFP</keyword>.</p>
<p>"Jeff the T-rex (is) near the golf course pro shop, (there is) Bones the Skeleton and a giant crocodile is being installed," the spokesman said.</p>
<p>"More dinosaurs (are) coming in (the) next few weeks."</p>
<p>Palmer, a larger-than-life character who has made a fortune in mining and is currently building a replica of the Titanic to re-enact the ill-fated ship's Atlantic voyage in 2016, has described Coolum as the world's biggest <keyword id="48645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dinosaur">dinosaur</keyword> exhibit.</p>
<p>Asked earlier this year why he was building the Titanic replica, Palmer said: "I want to spend the money I've got before I die".</p>
<p>The council said Coolum "has the potential to attract new patronage and maintain the economic viability of the resort", rejecting local resident concerns about noise and fears the dinosaurs would lessen the resort's reputation and image.</p>
<p>"The additional attractions form a minor part (approximately 1.3 hectares) of the 150 hectare resort," it said.</p>
<p>It said the exhibits would be motion-sensor controlled and have a predetermined performance time, minimising noise, with a master volume control able to be adjusted "to ensure that they do not disturb either resort patrons or nearby residents".</p>
<p>Palmer is also running for office in <keyword id="6355478" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Australia">Australia</keyword>'s national elections this year in an audacious and unlikely bid for the prime ministership.</p>

A flare was fired, the passengers put on life jackets, and the yacht was towed to a nearby marina.</p>
<p>Palmer was reportedly entertaining business associates onboard.</p>
<p>The 58-year-old billionaire unveiled images of the <keyword id="27608" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="titanic">Titanic</keyword> II, the nearly exact replica of the famous doomed ocean liner, last month in New York. Construction should begin next year.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2013/03/22/449122_gold-coast-news.html">According to Gold Coast News</a>, Palmer has had trouble on the water before; he ran a similar-sized boat aground a few years ago.</p>
<p>Hopefully for potential Titanic II passengers, this marks the end of his bad luck.</p>

<p>The 58-year-old, who made his fortune from natural resources like coal and iron, is now bringing the world's most famous ship back to life.</p>
<p>In New York on Tuesday, he unveiled <a href="http://titanic-ii.com/">images of Titanic II</a>, a replica of the ocean liner that sank on its maiden voyage in 1912, claiming 1,502 lives.</p>
<p>To offer 21st century cruise-goers the chance to sail on the <keyword id="27608" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="titanic">Titanic</keyword>, Palmer created the company Blue Star Line last year. The ship is being designed by Finnish company Deltamarin, and will be built by Chinese state-owned CSC Jinling Shipyard, <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/02/27/uk-usa-titanic-replica-idUSLNE91Q01520130227">Reuters reported</a>.</p>
<p>While the new Titanic will have air conditioning and modern safety equipment (and enough lifeboats for all of its 2,435 passengers and 900 crew), it will be made to look just like the original. Passengers will even be divided into three classes, and will be kept from mingling with those outside their station.</p>
<p>Construction should begin next year, and Palmer hopes to have the ship cruising by 2016. He has not specified how much the project will cost, but says the funds are coming from his own pocket, and that he'll spend what it takes to get the Titanic back on the ocean.</p>

<p>Australian billionaire businessman <a>Clive Palmer</a>, whose Palmer United Party (PUP) is running in the upcoming federal election, said on Thursday (September 5) he intended to sue <a>Rupert Murdoch</a>'s newspaper, The Australian.</p>
<p>Palmer said he was suing Murdoch over an article which questions Palmer's claims of wealth, being a mining magnate and a university professor, and whether voters should enable Palmer to gain "great political power," local media said.</p>
<p>"<a class="cite">Rupert Murdoch</a> will be sued by me today and he'll be brought to <a class="cite">Australia</a> to answer these questions in the<a class="cite">Supreme Court</a>. It's time that this fellow was brought to account, this foreigner that tries to dictate what we do," Palmer said on the <a class="cite">Seven Network</a>'s Sunrise programme.</p>
<p>The broadsheet is backing conservative opposition leader <a class="cite">Tony Abbott</a> to win the election and said it had spent months examining Palmer's track record.</p>
<p>Palmer also appeared on the <a class="cite">Nine Network</a>'s Today Show and accused Murdoch's estranged wife, Wendy Deng, of being a spy for <a class="cite">China</a>.</p>
<p>"You know, <a class="cite">Rupert Murdoch</a>'s wife, <a class="cite">Wendi Deng</a>, is a Chinese spy and that's been right across the world. An Australian Billionaire Politician Is Suing Rupert Murdoch For Defamation, Claims Wendi Murdoch Is A Chinese Spy

<p>Fregmonto Stokes, a 25-year-old playwriting student originally from Melbourne, caused widespread confusion when he took the stage with the Abbott family, just after the Coalition leader had claimed victory in the federal election.</p>
<p>He is an anti-coal activist who disrupts events posing as a character called Twiggy Palmcock. He has previously interrupted an Abbott speech in Melbourne.</p>
<p>The stunt was a stunning breach of security as Stokes was able to gain access <a href="http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/special-features/intruder-upstages-tony-abbott8217s-victory-speech/story-fnho52jj-1226714437735">using a faked media wristband made out of candy wrappers</a>.</p>
<p>Stokes told Business Insider his original intent was to have "Twiggy" take the stage towards the end of the victory speech.</p>
<p>After the speech finished Abbott briefly stepped down into the crowd. Stokes approached him in character and said he was "here to help", asking if he could have the Liberal Party nomination for the seat of Greenway in the next election.</p>
<p>Stokes' Palmcock character has been highlighting the environmental effects of brown coal mining. He poses as a young mining executive carrying a clipboard proposing outlandish mining projects, such as a low-risk investment in a pit in the affluent Melbourne suburb of Toorak.</p>
<p>In a video of one of his previous stunts, which you can see <a href="http://quitcoal.org.au/2012/09/twiggy-palmcock-and-quit-coal-chat-with-clive-palmer-on-the-titanic/">here</a>, he approached businessman Clive Palmer while he was having dinner with former foreign minister Alexander Downer.</p>
<p>More recently the Palmcock character switched to <a href="http://glocalpundit.com/2013/08/14/twiggy-palmcock-to-run-for-federal-seat-of-greenway/">pretending to be a "Palmer United Separatist" candidate</a> for the western Sydney seat of Greenway where the ill-fated Jaymes "Six-Point" Diaz's campaign imploded over the past five weeks.</p>
<p>Stokes told Business Insider he was aiming to highlight "the increased coal activity and mining under an Abbott Government". "Coal extraction in <keyword id="6355478" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Australia">Australia</keyword> will be one of the greatest contributors to global climate change over the next century," he said.</p>
<p>It's not the first time Stokes has disrupted an Abbott event.</p>
<p>In November last year, along with another activist, he interrupted Abbott by walking up to his lectern and heckling him during a speech at Melbourne University.</p>
<p>Abbott <a href="http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/in-depth/anti-coal-activist-twiggy-palmcock-disrupts-abbott-speech/story-fng387xs-1226509486966">remarked </a>after the interruption that it was good to see undergraduate humour was alive and well.</p>
<p>The Twiggy Palmcock name comes from combining three of Australia's three biggest mining names: Andrew "Twiggy" Forrest of Fortescue, Clive Palmer, and Hancock Prospecting, the company owned by Gina Rinehart.</p>

<p>The original and supposedly unsinkable luxury passenger liner struck an iceberg and went down in the North Atlantic in 1912, killing more than 1,500 people.</p>
<p>The famous ship is a subject of immense fascination for many in China, particularly after the 1997 release of James Cameron's film on the liner's doomed voyage starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.</p>
<p>Little known Chinese energy company Seven Star Energy Investment said the replica, which is expected to cost 1 billion yuan ($165 million), will be the main attraction for a planned theme park located Sichuan, a landlocked province famous for its spicy food.</p>
<p>The replica will be docked permanently on a river, the South China Morning Post reported.</p>
<p>"When the Titanic was about to sink, the greatest extent of human spirit and responsibility was shown and that spirit goes beyond borders and it is eternal," Seven Star chief executive Su Shaojun said in an interview with the state-run Xinhua news agency.</p>
<p>"We chose to rebuild the Titanic in China so that such spirit can be promoted or inherited in the east," he said.</p>
<p>The replica will also recreate the experience of what it felt like when the luxury liner collided with the iceberg, Xinhua reported, though it gave no details of how the deadly collision would be replicated.</p>
<p>Construction of the ship, which is 270 meters (885 feet) long, is expected to be completed in two years and will be based on designs of the Titanic's sister ship, RMS Olympic, which was in service from 1911 to 1935, the SCMP reported.</p>
<p>"We already have complete design drawings, including a large ballroom and premium first class rooms," Su said in the Xinhua interview.</p>
<p>Seven Star are not the only group with dreams of recreating the Titanic.</p>
<p>Flamboyant Australian tycoon Clive Palmer previously unveiled a plan last year to build a sea-worthy replica of the Titanic which is scheduled to make its first Atlantic crossing in 2016.</p>
<p>Palmer's "Titanic II" will feature modern modifications -- including many more lifeboats than the original -- but will try to remain as true as possible to the famous liner.</p>
<p>The violin played by the Titanic's bandmaster as the ship sank beneath the waves sold at auction for £900,000 ($1.45 million, 1.06 million euros) in October, smashing the previous £220,000 record for memorabilia from the doomed liner.</p>

Chinese Theme Park To Have A Full-Scale Replica Of The Titanic

<p>The so-called "direct action" plan, which will see the government pay companies to increase energy efficiency, passed through the upper house Senate early Friday following a marathon debate.</p>
<p>The bill is expected to be approved next month by the lower House of Representatives where the conservative government of Prime Minister Tony Abbott has a majority.</p>
<p>It comes after Abbott axed a tax on greenhouse gas emissions introduced by the previous Labor administration, fulfilling a central pledge from last year's elections. </p>
<p>"We have delivered on our promise to implement an emissions reduction fund to ensure that there is real and practical action to achieve our emissions goals and targets without a carbon tax," Environment Minister Greg Hunt told reporters.</p>
<p>China and the United States are the biggest greenhouse gas polluters, according to a report by international scientists issued last month, but Australia's output is considered high per capita.</p>
<p>The Aus$2.55 billion (US$2.25 billion) Emissions Reduction Fund is part of the government's plan to meet its emissions reduction target of five percent below 2000 levels by 2020.</p>
<p>Under the plan, competitive auctions will be held, with the government entering into contracts to buy emissions reductions from successful bidders at the lowest cost, Hunt said.</p>
<p>He added that the emissions reductions would be "real and significant" as payments would only be made when the pollution cuts occur.</p>
<h3>- 'Not the right way to go' -</h3>
<p>But the Labor opposition leader Bill Shorten criticised the scheme, describing it as "paying big polluters to keep polluting, which is terrible policy".</p>
<p>"In terms of 'Direct Action', Labor just doesn't believe it is the right way to go. We believe in trusting the marketplace to set the price signal," Shorten said Friday.</p>
<p>The policy has also been slammed by the Greens party, with leader Christine Milne saying there was "no modelling or any evidence to suggest it will do anything at all to reduce pollution".</p>
<p>The plan passed with the backing of the Palmer United Party. As part of the government's deal with mining magnate Clive Palmer's party, Hunt agreed to keep the Climate Change Authority (CCA) and set up a three-stage, 18-month inquiry into an emissions trading scheme (ETS).</p>
<p>The government had been planning to abolish the CCA, an independent climate change agency set up by the previous government.</p>
<p>The University of Queensland's John Quiggin, a CCA member and economics professor, welcomed the inquiry into an ETS.</p>
<p>"The overwhelming view of economists is that a price-based measure such as an ETS is a critical component of a carbon mitigation policy," Quiggin said.</p>
<p>Although the government rejected setting aside some of the fund to purchase international carbon credits, environmental economist Caroline Sullivan said similar offset schemes within Australia should be considered.</p>
<p>Carbon offset schemes allow individuals or firms a way to reduce their carbon footprint by investing in projects that absorb greenhouse gases.</p>
<p>"This relatively large sum of money (from the fund) can not only help to motivate carbon reductions from large emitters, but could also provide a hugely important -- and much needed -- economic stimulus for rural and regional Australia," Sullivan, from Southern Cross University, said.</p>

Australia Is About Approve A 'Terrible' Policy For Curbing Pollution

<p>Researchers from the University of Copenhagen tried to isolate DNA from a preserved 10,000 year-old bee and one that was about 60 years old.</p>
<p>The bees were actual preserved in Copal, not amber. Copal is the precursor to amber, when the tree resin hasn't fully hardened. It is still slightly gummy and is much younger than true amber.</p>
<p>They were able to get some DNA data, but they weren't able to match it to any known DNA sequences - a sign the data that they got was an artifact of their procedure. Finding that the insects in copal weren't able to provide DNA means bad news for people hoping to get DNA from amber-preserved insects.</p>
<p>Previous experiments that have claimed to isolate and amplify DNA from million-year-old amber are probably just false positives from contamination with modern DNA, the authors said.  </p>
<p>The authors write in the paper, "our results raise further doubts about claims of DNA extraction from fossil insects in amber, many millions of years older than copal."</p>
<p>The study was published in the <a href="http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0073150" target="_blank">journal PLoS ONE on September 11</a>.</p>
<p>This finding confirms an earlier study that estimated the half-life of DNA to be about 521 years. That number means that half of the DNA in a sample is lost every 521 years. The researchers estimated that it would be almost impossible to get enough DNA information from fossils older than 1.5 million years to reconstruct a genome.</p>
<p>So going back to the Jurassic era, which ended about 145 million years ago, it would be virtually impossible to find enough intact DNA to reconstruct a <keyword id="48645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="dinosaur">dinosaur</keyword> genome. </p>
<p>Looks like that eccentric Australian mining magnate Clive Palmer will never get to live out his dream of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/australian-billionaire-gets-approval-to-build-Jurassic-park-2013-7">building a real-life Jurassic park</a>. </p>
<p>These findings are on top of plenty of other scientific problems with the movie. First of all, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jurassic-park-mosquito-doesnt-suck-blood-2013-7">mosquito they pictured in amber wasn't even the right species</a> - they picked the only species of mosquito that doesn't even suck blood. </p>

It is a richer roast for the banks.</a>"</p><p>He wasn't wrong.</p><p>Judging by the prolific tweets from the AGM in Edinburgh, Scotland today, Hampton and CEO Ross McEwan faced a number of SMEs and representatives from a 12,000-strong group of shareholders that were not interested in hearing about the group's turnaround plans and instead tried to use the AGM as a platform to voice their anger.</p><p><a href="http://www.investegate.co.uk/royal-bk-scot-grp---rbs-/rns/annual-general-meeting-statements/201506231355549836Q/">Hampton quoted author Charles Dickens at the AGM to summarise the turbulent time at RBS has gone through</a> over the last few years - that probably didn't help either.</p><p>"I think Dickens captured recent years perfectly in his famous quote from A Tale of Two Cities: 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity…' As Chairman of RBS I have certainly had more than one occasion to relate to all those sentiments in addressing the financial crisis at this bank."</p><div><div><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>shareholders variously venting their anger at Sir Philip for RBS's treatment of SMEs. The government still owns around 81% of the bank,</p><p>Unlike its part state-owned rival Lloyds, RBS is going to lose taxpayers money when it does eventually get sold by the government. This is because the share price is dramatically lower than when it was bailed out - it's currently around 359.50 pence ($5.66) per share.</p><p>This is only exacerbating anger amongst a distinct group of shareholders.</p><p>RBS still faces major lawsuits from shareholders that invested in the bank before its 2008 rights issue. In that rights sale, investors were offered £12 billion ($18.8 billion) in new, additional shares. The group accused RBS and the former executives of "misrepresenting the underlying strength of the bank and omitting critical information from the 2008 Rights Issue prospectus."</p><p>Meanwhile, politicians have say hundreds of UK businesses were "decimated and destroyed" by RBS and a number of Britain's other biggest banks, who sold the companies <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/gutobebb-on-missellingderivatives-irsas-by-rbs-barclays-hsbc-and-lloyds-2015-3">questionable, complex interest-rate swap derivatives</a>.</p><p>The financial products in question were mainly interest rate swap agreements (IRSA).</p><p>IRSAs were touted by banks as a simple form of "insurance" for small- and medium-sized businesses taking out the kind of loans that would have funded a new shop or bought new equipment. Banks said these IRSAs would protect them from rising interest rates.</p><p>Effectively, if interest rates went up, the bank would pay them a sum of money. However, if interest rates went down, they would owe the bank thousands of pounds in cash. These products are appropriate for some businesses that look to hedge their interest rate exposure on large amounts of debt. But small- and medium-sized business were sold this product even when they didn't understand them.</p><p>Many businesses claimed to have not known about the downside of the deal, when interest rates started to fall following the 2008 credit crisis.</p><p>According to a study by independent lobby group Bully-Banks in 2013, so many businesses were driven under by sudden, unexpected demands for IRSA payments that Britain's economy lost £1.7 billion ($2.68 billion) in revenues to the Treasury.
