<br /> <keyword id="6390344" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cisco">Cisco</keyword>, the technology major from San Jose, California, is planning to establish a manufacturing facility here in India and has already begun talks with the Indian government for the same.<br />
<br /> Cisco CEO <keyword id="2168427" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chuck-Robbins">Chuck Robbins</keyword> termed India as one of its "best bases", adding that the company is "very actively involved in India across the board."<br />
<br />
He said that while interacting with reporters at the Cisco Live 2016 annual conference in Las Vegas.<br />
<br />
"... Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very committed to manufacturing. We worked through a business case and... presented to him that... That was fantastic and we have been moving forward," he added.<br />
<br />
He also disclosed that India’s healthcare and security initiatives are on a progressive track and there is a lot happening on the front of its digital cities, over 15 of which have direct involvement from Cisco.<br />
<br />
As of now, Cisco's second-largest site operates from the country, with a staff of 11,000 employees.<br />

Cisco is coming to India

<br />
India-born Padmasree Warrior has quit her position as Chief Technology Officer with IT major Cisco. This comes as a process in the reshuffling of top management under the new CEO Chuck Robbins. <br />
<br />
Cisco said Warrior will move into an advisory role till September.<br />
<br />
In her advisory post, Warrior "is charged with aligning technology development and corporate strategy to enable Cisco to anticipate, shape, and lead major market transitions," Cisco said. <br />
<br />
She will help "direct technology and operational innovation across the company and oversees strategic partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, the integration of new business models, the incubation of new technologies, and the cultivation of world-class technical talent."<br />
 <br />
India-born Pankaj Patel figures among the new executive leadership team. He would be the Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer.  He will lead Cisco's 25,000 development engineers and the $36 billion technology portfolio. <br />
<br />
Warrior, 54, had joined Cisco in 2008 and served as Chief technology Officer and Senior Vice-President of Engineering in these seven years.<br />

Cisco CTO steps down

The Modi leg government has a reason to cheer! After all, tech giant <keyword id="6390344" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cisco">CISCO</keyword>’s chairman and CEO <keyword id="644091" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="John-Chamber">John Chamber</keyword> said that the chances of India becoming top emerging country of the <keyword id="175259" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Brics">BRICS</keyword> grouping are "extremely good" under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. <br />
	"We made a big bet on India", which has the possibilities and "may be probability of being the very top emerging BRICS country. And being candid, under the leadership of Mr Modi, I think the probabilities of that happening are extremely good," said the outgoing CEO in an ET report. <br />
	 <br /> The statement was made during a press conference with the new CEO <keyword id="2168427" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chuck-Robbins">Chuck Robbins</keyword>. Chambers said this in a joint press conference with the incoming CEO Chuck Robbins. The two are expected to be in India on June 18 and 19.<br />
	<br />
	At present, the BRICS group of leading emerging economies comprises more than a quarter of the world's land mass, 40% of its population and a combined GDP of $24 trillion.<br />
	 <br /> Chambers noted that both he and Chuck are betting big on India. He explained that the fact that <keyword id="2238662" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PM-Modi">PM Modi</keyword> understands the importance of digitisation, development of smart cities, broadband to every citizen, healthcare, education and job creation to change the lives of the people.<br />
	<br />
	"My views have not changed at all. If I bet on one emerging market that had to be double down on India and we have doubled down,” he averred.<br />
	<br />
	Briefing about his forthcoming visit to India, he said: "We will spend time with key government leaders in India including your top leaders next week... I think your CEOs come together in terms of what Cisco can do with the citizens, with the businesses and with India as a great partner".

India-origin <keyword id="135342" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Pankaj-Patel">Pankaj Patel</keyword> is soon going to join the executive leadership team of global IT giant <keyword id="6390344" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Cisco">Cisco</keyword>, which has restructured its top management recently under the guidance of CEO <keyword id="2168427" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chuck-Robbins">Chuck Robbins</keyword>. Patel has studied engineering at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (<keyword id="51724" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="BITS">BITS</keyword>) in India, according to an Economic Times report. <br /><br />

	Patel, 60, will continue to lead Cisco's development engineers and the company's $36-billion technology portfolio. The Indian-origin engineer, who joined the company in 1996,  leads a global team of about 28,000 people. 
<br /><br />

	He already served the American company as a senior vice-president and general manager for its service provider business. He was responsible for the Cisco IGX product line and software development for all Cisco ATM switches, the company said on its website. 
<br /><br /> Patel joined Cisco through its acquisition of <keyword id="2892807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Stratacom">Stratacom</keyword>. Patel also holds a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. <br /><br />

	He was a founding leader of Cisco’s first multi-service access business unit, developing strategy for access routers and voice-over-packet technology and delivery.

Indian-origin Pankaj Patel in Cisco's new executive leadership team

As 5G roll-out picks up pace in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is already laying out the blueprint for 6G and has asked global networking giant <keyword id="6390344" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="cisco" source="Orion">Cisco</keyword> to begin research and development (R&amp;D) around the next-gen telecommunication technology to further empower millions, according to the company's Chief Operating Officer (COO) Maria Martinez.<br /><br />In an interaction with IANS, Martinez revealed the conversation she, along with other top Cisco leadership, had with PM Modi last week around the emerging technologies and how they can help the country innovate and build for the world.<br /><br />"It was very exciting to meet the prime minister and other top leaders to witness the great commitment they have to make India a global manufacturing and export hub for various technologies. 5G is a great opportunity for us to do more, not only for the private sector but also for enterprises of all sizes at massive scale," Martinez said.<br /><br />She said that PM Modi asked them to engage on 6G as after 5G, the prime minister is already laying out the blueprint for it.<br /><br />"We talked about building some kind of joint R&amp;D around 6G as well. We are very excited after seeing the 5G roll-out globally, including in India. We're very excited about 6G too," Martinez told IANS.<br /><br />PM Modi has already emphasised that the 6G initiative will create new opportunities for innovators, industries and startups. In March, he released a vision document that details India's plans to develop and launch 6G telecom services in a few years.<br /><br />Cisco is also working with telecom operators in India for the monetisation of private 5G use cases as a service model.<br /><br />The company is witnessing the 5G rollout at a very rapid pace with both service providers Reliance Jio Infocomm and Bharti Airtel connecting cities and towns, as the country aims to connect every nook and corner of the country with 5G access this year.<br /><br />Cisco's Chair and CEO Chuck Robbins also discussed with PM Modi how the company has doubled down on manufacturing to boost exports from the country.<br /><br />The global networking giant has announced it will start manufacturing in India, with an aim to drive more than $1 billion in combined domestic production and exports in the coming years via offering a robust and secure device ecosystem.<br /><br />Dave West, President, Cisco Asia Pacific, Japan, and Greater China (APJC), told IANS that India is moving very rapidly on 5G rollout and the energy around the whole piece of digitisation in the country is super impressive.<br /><br />"We're incredibly excited about the Indian market and are well aligned to see India on the digitisation and the growth journey. The manufacturing announcement is a testament to our belief in this growth market. We are going to be manufacturing routers and switches to begin with, and then move from there," West elaborated.<br /><br />Enterprises of all sizes are digitising very rapidly in the country and as they digitise, technology comes at the forefront of their strategy.<br /><br />"It is fundamental to their success, not only internally on how they manage their own businesses and provide capabilities to their employees but also how they do business with others. Some of its biggest name investors include Sequoia Capital and Intel Capital. </p><p>The terms of the deal with Cisco were not disclosed. Cisco is buying an Intel-backed startup that uses WiFi to track people as they move around malls and airports

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Incoming Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins is wasting no time showing the world that he's going to grab Cisco by the horns and make it his own.</p><p>As expected, today he announced sweeping changes to the executive ranks, with some big surprises.</p><p>These are the names that are out of the new administration: </p><ul><li>Padmasree Warrior, Cisco's CTO and Strategy Officer</li><li>Wim Elfrink, Cisco's Chief Globalization Officer;</li><li>Edzard Overbeek, Senior Vice President of Cisco Services;</li></ul><p>These are the names that will lead the new administration:</p><p><strong>Hilton Romanski</strong> is taking over Warrior's role as CTO and strategy officer. Romanski was working as Cisco's deal-maker responsible for some of Cisco's biggest, most strategic purchases, such as Sourcefire, Meraki, and Airespace.</p><p><strong>Ruba Borno</strong> is a new hire from The Boston Consulting Group.</p><p>She will become VP, Growth Initiatives and Chief of Staff. Borno holds a Ph.D in electrical engineering and has been an Intel fellow at the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center. So she's got game in the kind of tech Cisco builds.</p><p>It looks like Borno's role will be to serve as Robbins' consultant on how to manage and possibly re-organize Cisco's massive 70,000-strong employees, and be someone who came from outside the John Chambers era.</p><p><strong> Pankaj Patel</strong> has been confirmed as the leader of Cisco's enormous 25,000-person engineering team.</p><p>Cisco just spent two-years changing up its engineering under Patel, culminating in a massive re-org last fall, designed to eliminate product fiefdoms and to create groups that are supposed to work together. It would have been risky for Robbins to have cut Patel at this juncture.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><strong>Rebecca Jacoby</strong> has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Operations.</p><p>Jacoby was formerly CIO meaning she ran all of Cisco's internal IT. She is very well-known and well-liked in the industry at large, frequently on the speaker circuit. Guillermo Diaz has been named the new CIO reporting to her. In addition to running IT, she's running operations and supply chain.</p><p><strong>Chris Dedicoat</strong> is taking over Robbins' old role as head of worldwide sales, as previously announced. He was running European sales under Robbins, so Robbins knows him well.</p><p><strong>Joe Cozzolino, senior vice president, services</strong>. He was previously running Cisco's Service Provider Video Infrastructure Group, a critical unit of potential growth as service providers spend millions to upgrade their networks to handle the world's YouTubes, Netflix and Facebook videos. But there are a bunch of new, competing technologies to help them do so, so this unit  had been hit-and-miss on sales and growth.</p><p><strong>Francine Katsoudas</strong> will continue running HR.</p><p><strong>Karen Walker</strong> will continue running marketing.</p><p><strong>Mark Chandler</strong> will continue to be Cisco's top lawyer.</p><p><strong>Kelly Kramer </strong>will stay as CFO. She took over last fall replacing 10-year CFO Frank Calderoni at the height of Cisco's multi-year internal reorganization.</p><h2>Surprise exits</h2><p>The biggest name on the out list is Padmasree Warrior, Cisco's CTO and Strategy Officer. She is  well-known and well-liked outside the company as a visionary, and known inside the company for pushing innovation.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>We expect headhunters are pounding down her door right now. We wouldn't be surprised to see her land a CEO role somewhere else.</p><p>Wim Elfrink is known for opening the global headquarters in Bangalore, India and he helped Cisco establish a new unit to take on the Internet of Things, which is Cisco's Next Big Thing. But he wasn't that unit's leader. That's the job of Cisco Rob Soderbery.</p><p>Edzard Overbeek has been at Cisco for 15 years, most recently running Services. Prior to that he was running Cisco's Asia Pacific sales, and was Robbins counterpart and, perhaps, internal rival in the company's sales world. Overbeek's career rose under Chambers and now Cisco is Robbins' baby.</p><h2>Cost cutting versus strategy</h2><p>Cisco has mostly grown through acquisitions over the past decade, which does tend to create a messy organization of people and business units that still "belong" to the companies that were bought.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Robbins has <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/new-cisco-ceo-more-changes-to-come-2015-6">repeatedly said </a> that he wants to get Cisco's sprawling 75,000 employees and 18 different product categories into a leaner, meaner machine.</p><p>His new team is full of leaders that have cut costs, as opposed to leaders known for their vision.</p><p>We wouldn't be shocked to learn that Robbins first acts as CEO will be to weed out some of those underperforming products and cleaning out some of those teams.</p><p>Now everyone is waiting to hear if Robbins will institute more cost cutting, including layoffs. Cisco has had annual layoffs for the past four years.</p><p>But he can't just cut his way to a vibrant company.</p><p>The company's bread-and-butter networking industry is under attack as new software makes networks cheaper to build and run.
