A hot sauce company created the world's first touchless hot sauce dispenser after restaurants removed its bottles during the pandemic

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Gen Z diners crave spicy food and chicken more than other generations.</li><li>Fast-food restaurants are adding new dishes to their menu to lure younger diners in.</li></ul><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-fast-food-restaurant-dining-habits-generations-money-spicy-2023-4">Gen Z prefers different flavors to other generations</a> – and it's forcing fast-food chains to change their menus.</p><p>Restaurant execs say that younger diners crave spicy food and chicken. They're adding new dishes to lure them in.</p><p>"Spice levels generally heat up with younger generations," Fabiola Del Rio, VP of integrated marketing communications at Panda Express, told Insider.</p><p>Gen Z and millennials are "more experimental and prefer authentic, bold, and spicy flavors more so than the generations before them," Brendan M. Foley, the president and CEO of McCormick – which owns herb, spice, and sauce brands including Frank's RedHot, Cholula, and Schwartz – said at the Consumer Analyst Group of New York conference in February, per <a href="https://www.foodbusinessnews.net/articles/23299-mccormick-turning-up-the-heat-with-new-products-partnerships">Food Business News</a>.</p><p>"Their love with heat has driven growth in inherently hot foods like hot sauce as well as in foods with hot and spicy profiles like salty snacks," Foley continued. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mcdonalds-attempt-to-win-over-millennials-with-sriracha-backfires-2017-8">Sriracha sauce</a>, for example, is a favorite among millennials.</p><p>Chipotle told Insider that Gen Z orders more of its Queso Blanco, a cheese dip with peppers for a spicy kick, than other generations, while Wendy's noted that its Spicy Chicken Nuggets are especially popular among Gen Zers. At Panda Express, Kung Pao Chicken and Sizzling Shrimp are in high demand among Gen Zers, Del Rio said.</p><p>Subway is offering more spicy options to appeal to Gen Zers, it told Insider.</p><p>It's not just spicy food that sets Gen Z's flavor profile apart from other generations.</p><p>"They overwhelmingly order chicken," Laura Dickey, CEO of Dickey's Barbecue Pit, told Insider. "So while we've always had it on the menu, it hasn't always been a feature focus. We've also added smoked chicken wings, and that was a direct response to Gen Z." Taco Bell CEO Mark King similarly told <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-12-13/yum-brands-taco-bell-says-gen-z-wants-to-eat-chicken-not-beef#xj4y7vzkg?leadSource=uverify%20wall">Bloomberg</a> that Gen Z customers were increasingly ordering chicken from the Tex-Mex chain rather than beef.</p><p>In a 2022 <a href="https://morningconsult.com/2023/02/13/gen-z-loves-to-try-new-foods-and-drinks/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">poll by Morning Consult</a>, 13% of 1,000 US Gen Z respondents said that chicken was their favorite food, ahead of steak, burgers, sushi, and fries and behind only pizza. Chicken-sandwich brand Chick-fil-A also came top in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chick-fil-a-teens-favorite-restaurant-chain-full-list-of-top-spots-2022-10">Piper Sandler's fall 2022 survey</a> of restaurant brands among teens.</p><p>And where they can, Gen Zers like to get their chicken spicy, too. "Chicken sandwich offerings are essential to Gen Zs, particularly those with value price points or a spicy profile," NPD said in a <a href="https://www.npd.com/news/press-releases/2022/gen-zs-favor-quick-service-restaurants-particularly-fast-casual-restaurants/">report</a>.</p><p>Quick service restaurant chain execs also told Insider that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-fast-food-restaurant-dining-habits-generations-money-spicy-2023-4#theyre-not-afraid-to-splash-out-to-make-a-meal-an-occasion-2">Gen Zers tend to dine in big groups, are pulled in by influencer marketing, and aren't afraid to splash out to make a meal an occasion</a>.</p><p><em>Are you a Gen Z fast-food superfan? BlackRock's big bet on a hot investing trend  — Activist investor angry over delayed COVID treatment — Point72 snaps up portfolio managers

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Chili crisp is an oil-based Chinese condiment made of pepper flakes, fried garlic, and fermented soybeans.</li><li>It's commonly used on dumplings and noodles — but can also pair with sweets like chocolate and ice cream.</li><li>There are several popular brands, including the original Lao Gan Ma and Fly By Jing.</li></ul><p>Invented in the 1990s by Guizhou noodle shop owner Tao Huabi, chili crisp is a relative newcomer to the American condiment scene, but it's become a cult-favorite sauce with chefs and home cooks alike. </p><h2><strong>What is chili crisp?</strong></h2><p>Chili crisp is a spicy oil-based condiment most commonly used in Chinese cuisine, made by infusing oil with dried red chiles, fried garlic, shallots, ginger, and other aromatics. The result is a fiery, tangy condiment filled with texture. </p><p>The types of chilies and oil vary by brand, as does the ratio of each ingredient. And other <keyword id="190344" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="ingredients">ingredients</keyword> like fried fermented soy beans, star anise, sesame seeds, and MSG can be added as well. <a href="https://www.laoganmausa.com/">Lao Gan Ma</a> - the one created by Tao - is the OG, but in recent years, a slurry of of newcomers are putting their own spin on the sauce. For many, dumplings and noodles are a standby way to use chili crisp, but there's much more you can do with your jar.</p><p><strong>Quick tip:</strong> Chili crisp and chili oil have slight differences. Whereas chili oil is a spicy, smoky sauce made from oil, dried peppers, and aromatics, chili crisp boasts an additional crunchy texture and umami wok char that's captured with its fried bits.</p><h2><strong>1. Mix up a dipping sauce</strong></h2><p>At <a href="https://www.instagram.com/manjudumplingpopup/?hl=en">MANJU Dumpling Pop-Up</a> in Nashville, Tenn, chef Yuriko Say serves wontons in a dip that combines chili crisp with dark sweet soy, black vinegar, and orange zest. At home, various kinds of dumplings - even the frozen gyoza from Trader Joe's - can be dressed up with a dab of chili crisp in whatever soy sauce you have on hand.</p><h2><strong>2. Embellish noodles</strong></h2><p>At <a href="https://chinalivesf.com">China Live</a> in San Francisco, chef George Chen makes his own <a href="https://china-live.myshopify.com/collections/pantry/products/chef-chens-famous-chili-crisp">chili crisp</a> with freshly fried shallots and yellow soybeans that toasted in a hot wok until fragrant. His chili crisp is popular on a variety of dumplings, rice, and noodles dishes at China Live, but it's especially good in the Hong Kong wok-fried noodles. "It's a drier dish that begs for some heat and the crunchy texture goes really well with pan-fried crispy-ish egg noodles."</p><p>Tony Gentile, co-owner of <a href="https://flagshiprestaurantgroup.com">Flagship Restaurant Group</a> in Austin, Texas, says chili crisp is great with any noodle, even the non-Asian variety. His new menu at <a href="https://eatdrinkanthem.com">Anthem</a> features a twist on cacio e pepe that swaps ramen noodles for spaghetti, topped with Sichuan chili crisp and flying fish caviar. Similarly, James Beard-nominated Pichet Ong, executive chef of <a href="https://www.nihaobaltimore.com">NiHao</a> in Baltimore, uses chili crisp to add a little heat to sea urchin pasta, while award-winning chef Maneet Chauhan even adds chili crisp to her macaroni and cheese. </p><h2><strong>3. Make eggs extra</strong></h2><p>"Sichuan chili crisp is extremely versatile and can be used to compliment a range of cuisines," says Macks Collins, chef and co-owner of <a href="https://www.piccalillila.com/">Piccalilli</a> in Culver City, Calif. "Its crispy texture makes a nice contrast on anything soft or tender, which is why I love adding Sichuan chili crisp to my eggs in the morning." Whether it's a fluffy scramble, soft-boiled, or poached eggs, the crunch is a nice spicy accent to a rich, creamy yolk.</p><h2><strong>4. Spruce up sandwiches</strong></h2><p>In Miami, chef Ben Murray created <a href="https://www.instagram.com/benhmi_/?hl=en">Benh Mi</a>, a Vietnamese-inspired sandwich concept, when he and his kitchen team were furloughed during the pandemic. He uses chili crisp in the sauce for his lemongrass meatball banh mi. "The sauce is similar to a bulgogi sauce that the meatballs swim in after I cook them," he says.</p><p>Nick Wong, chef de cuisine at Houston's <a href="https://www.ubpreserv.com">UB Preserv</a>, recommends whisking chili crisp into mayo and using it as a sandwich spread. "Chili crisp is great in mayo because it helps to spread that savory flavor," Wong says. He pairs chili crisp with a tangier mayo such as Kewpie or Duke's and finds it especially good on veggie sandwiches, like grilled zucchini and eggplant or with mashed avocado and a fried egg.</p><h2><div type="image" title="Fly By Jing chili crisp sauce with dumplings" height="2002" width="4004" msid="80676814" hostid="261"></div></h2><h2>5 chili crisp brands to know</h2><ul><li><strong>Lao Gan Ma:</strong> The cult-favorite classic comes in several variations, including the original Spicy Chili Crisp that propelled founder Tao Huabi from noodle shop owner to self-made billionaire.</li><li><strong>Fly By Jing:</strong> Founded by Chengdu native Jing Gao, <a href="https://flybyjing.com/shop/">this line of sauces</a> sources ingredients directly from Sichuan, along with the province's signature mouthnumbing peppercorns.</li><li><strong>Chef Chens' Famous Chili Crisp:</strong> Wok-fried shallots and soybeans give <a href="https://china-live.myshopify.com/collections/pantry/products/chef-chens-famous-chili-crisp">chef George Chen's version</a> its crunch factor, while the spice comes from dried chili flakes and cayenne.</li><li><strong>Su Chili Crisp:</strong> Produced in Taiwan, <a href="https://yunhai.shop/collections/all/products/su-chili-crisp">the small-batch sauce</a> only calls for six ingredients - soybean oil, Sichuan peppercorns, chili peppers, sesame seeds, garlic, and star anise.</li><li><strong>Milu: </strong>Mushroom powder and preserved black beans lend an extra umami punch to <a href="https://www.eatmilu.com/">the garlicky pantry staple</a> from this Chinese-inspired cafe.</li></ul><h2><strong>5. Splash on fresh fruit</strong></h2><p>Ong says he always has chili crisp on hand in his kitchen. "I really enjoy eating numbing spicy <keyword id="6181" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Food">food</keyword> in a cold dish since it seems less potent," he says. Ong is best known for his desserts and whips up a sweet dipping sauce with sugar, dried shrimp, lime, chili crisp, and maldon salt to pair with raw tropical fruits such as Asian pear, guava, watermelon, or starfruit as a refreshing healthy snack.</p><h2><strong>6. Spice up dark chocolate</strong></h2><p>Chocolatier Susanna Yoon of <a href="https://swmsweets.com">Stick With Me Sweets</a> in New York City has another sweet recommendation: topping chocolate bark and dark chocolate toffees with some of the spicy stuff. To give her dark chocolate bars a kick, she pours tempered chocolate into a mold and sprinkles on her housemade dried chili crisp for an addictively crunchy finish. Yoon makes her own dried chili crisp by slicing peppers in half, removing the seeds, and soaking them in warm water for 20 minutes. "Once the chilies are soft, I thinly slice them lengthwise to get them nice and curly," she says. Season the peppers with kosher salt, a touch of sugar, potato starch and if desired, MSG, then deep fry the peppers in oil until they turn golden brown.</p><h2><strong>7. Use as an ice cream topper</strong></h2><p>Portland, Ore.'s <a href="https://saltandstraw.com">Salt &amp; Straw</a> is known for pushing the boundaries in ice cream with whimsical and savory flavors. For their chocolatier ice cream series in February 2020, they partnered with small-batch bean-to-bar chocolate maker David Briggs of <a href="http://www.xocolatldedavid.com">Xocolatl de David</a> to make a <a href="https://saltandstraw.com/products/xocolatl-de-davids-salsa-macha">salsa macha ice cream</a>, a Mexican version of chili crisp made with red pasilla, chipotle peppers, and dark chocolate. To recreate this flavor at home, you can top your favorite dark chocolate or vanilla ice cream with a spoonful of store-bought or homemade chili crisp.</p><p>"Chili oil on ice cream is a magical thing," says Salt &amp; Straw co-founder Tyler Malek. "A good sweet chili oil can be used as a topping poured directly on top of ice cream, or really quickly melted down with a bit of chocolate and coconut oil for a quick at-home magic shell. 7 ways to use chili crisp, according to professional chefs

While the move may have kept the league alive, <a href="https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/04/30/alliance-american-football-aaf-collapse-charlie-ebersol-tom-dundon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to a report from Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr</a>, the difference in priorities between Dundon and AAF co-founder Charlie Ebersol began to show quickly.</p><p>Ebersol pitched the AAF not just as a football league, but as a tech company, working to develop an interactive app that would allow fans to follow the action on the field in real-time, and ideally, eventually gamble on what would happen next in any game.</p><p><em><strong>Read more</strong>: </em><em><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/aaf-charlie-ebersol-xfl-mistakes-2019-2">The 3 things new pro football leagues get wrong and how the AAF hoped to avoid them</a></em></p><p>As Orr writes, while the Alliance's engineers and app were both great sources of pride for Ebersol, one engineer said that Dundon "<span>couldn't give a s--- about the tech."</span><span></span></p><p><span>Rather than the three-year growth plan that Ebersol set out for the league, Dundon, whose millions were being burned by the league week after week, attempted to force the issue of an official partnership with the NFL, even threatening to shutter the league as part of a negotiating tactic.</span></p><p><span>But while Dundon played hardball with hopes of reaching profitability on a vastly accelerated timeline, he was also attempting to cut costs the league was taking on by any means necessary.</span></p><p><span>According to Orr, there were quite a few changes in the final week of the AAF's existence:</span></p><p style="padding-left: 40px;"><span>"Amid growing speculation that Ebersol's new league was on shaky ground, the Hotshots had flown to Texas in Week 8 on a plane much smaller than the one they were used to. On arrival they found their hotel space so inadequate that the offense did its pregame walkthrough in the parking lot. Across the league, employees were feeling a similar pinch. Nonessential personnel were increasingly barred from traveling at all. Work computers were suddenly inventoried. <ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="30173" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="chefs">Chefs</keyword> from across the US shared their favorite grocery-store purchases with Insider.</li><li>The foods chefs said they like to purchase ranged from kitchen staples, like eggs and peanut butter, to prepared foods, like rotisserie chicken and sushi.</li><li>Some chefs also said they enjoy buying certain chain exclusives like Publix's fried chicken or Trader Joe's banana-bread mix.</li></ul><p>Even though they're cooking up a <a href="https://www.insider.com/judges-share-ingredients-they-want-people-to-stop-using-on-cooking-shows">variety of gourmet dishes at work</a>, many chefs prefer to keep things simple when they're at home. </p><p>Because of this, some chefs tend to purchase popular, multipurpose ingredients that they can use in a variety of simple dishes or specialty foods they can snack on in a hurry. </p><p>Insider asked chefs across the US about their favorite, underrated items to purchase at the <keyword id="71710" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Grocery-store">grocery store</keyword>. Read on to see what they said. </p><h2>This <keyword id="3699" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Chef">chef</keyword> said her go-to purchase at the <keyword id="6372044" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="grocery">grocery</keyword> store is a popular condiment in Korean cuisine</h2><p>"My favorite grocery store find is gochujang, a traditional Korean fermented red-chili condiment that has a slightly sweet heat and umami-rich flavor," Chef Sohui Kim, former coowner of <a href="https://www.goodfork.com/">The Good Fork</a> in Brooklyn, New York, told Insider.</p><p>Kim said her preferred brand of gochujang is <a href="http://www.gochujangsauce.com/">Chung Jung One</a> because it's made with Korean chili peppers.</p><p>"Gochujang is a workhorse in my pantry and not only for Korean dishes," said Kim. "It's a great thickening agent, with a fantastic kick of flavor. I love the combination of sweet and spicy that it adds to chili, braises, and barbeque sauces."</p><h2>One chef said rotisserie chicken is a great bargain</h2><div type="image" title="rotisserie chicken" height="3718" width="4957" msid="79688287" hostid="261"></div><p>"Rotisserie chicken is a healthy, under-$10 meal that is often overlooked," Yehuda Sichel, formerly a chef at <a href="http://www.abefisherphilly.com/">Abe Fisher</a> in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, told Insider.</p><p>Sichel said it's a great meal option because it's always hot and ready to be eaten. Plus it's pretty versatile when it comes to meal prep. </p><p>"I also love it because often you can break down this one chicken into two to three meals," they added. </p><h2>Chicken bouillon cubes are an underrated staple in any kitchen, said one chef</h2><p>Chris Feldmeier, executive chef at <a href="http://www.loveandsaltla.com/">Love &amp; Salt</a> in Manhattan Beach, California, told Insider that his favorite grocery item is Knorr's chicken bouillon.</p><p>"I absolutely love the richness and body this adds to marinades for all kinds of meat," said Feldmeier.</p><p>"It's a flavor enhancer with an umami taste that balances, blends, and rounds the perception of other tastes." he said, and the cubes' MSG also "intensifies the meaty, savory flavor of <keyword id="6181" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Food">food</keyword>."</p><h2>This chef said crispy onions are tedious to make from scratch, so he typically just buys them</h2><p>Daniel DiStefano, executive chef at NYC's <a href="https://www.madenicenyc.com/">Made Nice</a>, told Insider that even the most talented chef knows making crispy onions can be a messy and painstaking process. Buying them is much easier. </p><p>"The store-bought crispy onions are never greasy, perfectly salted, and, most of all, don't require you to slowly deep-fry onion slices on your stove," he added. </p><h2>This chef said he thinks 'anchovies should be in everything'</h2><p>Garrison Price, executive chef at <a href="https://www.cafeclovernyc.com/">Cafe Clover</a> in NYC's West Village, told Insider that anchovies can be used in "infinite ways."</p><p>These include serving them with bread and butter as a snack or canapé or adding them to pasta sauce to provide it with a layer of umami flavor.</p><p>"Anchovies should be in everything, especially because people won't even know it is there half the time," Price said.</p><h2>This chef said Greek yogurt is his 'blank canvas' for both sweet and savory dishes</h2><div type="image" title="Greek Yogurt" height="581" width="775" msid="79688292" hostid="261"></div><p>Plain Greek yogurt is a home-kitchen staple according to Joe Gentempo, executive chef at <a href="https://parkwoodsrestaurant.com/">Parkwoods</a> in Atlanta, Georgia.</p><p>He said it can be used in place of mayonnaise or sour cream in savory dishes and can become a tasty tzatziki with bit of cucumber and mint. </p><p>"It's a <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-desserts-to-try-out-in-an-air-fryer">perfect breakfast or even dessert</a> - just elevate it with some honey and fresh seasonal fruit. My kids can't get enough," Gentempo told Insider. </p><h2>This chef said he can't resist buying things that are BOGO, nor can he resist a popular Little Debbie's dessert </h2><p>"I always start very focused and with the right intentions when stepping through the automatic doors at a supermarket, but quickly veer off course to any BOGO deal they have to offer," David Bancroft, chef and owner of Alabama barbecue joint <a href="https://www.bowandarrowbbq.com/">Bow &amp; Arrow</a>, told Insider.</p><p>He added, "Nobody really needs two big jars of spaghetti sauce or two huge cans of baked beans at the same time, but eventually we will get to the second one, right?"</p><p>Bancroft also said that it's hard for him to resist Little Debbie's Oatmeal Creme Pies. </p><h2>This chef said she has a few favorite hot sauces that she tends to purchase</h2><p>"Chefs across the board seem to have a love and appreciation for all things spicy," said chef Gemma Kamin-Korn of <a href="https://www.beaubrooklyn.com/">Bar Beau</a> in NYC. "Regardless of why, <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-hot-sauce-chefs-use-2018-3">hot sauce is a staple</a> and is often generously applied over top an unhealthy spread of fast food, generally in the wee hours of the night."</p><p>Kamin-Korn said her favorite hot sauces are Sriracha and Cholula Green Pepper. Of the latter, Kamin-Korn said, "It is not overpoweringly spicy and has great flavor - a step up from your basic Tabasco."</p><h2>This chef said Duke's Mayonnaise is his favorite grocery-store pick</h2><p>Travis Grimes, executive chef at <a href="https://huskrestaurant.com/">Husk Restaurant</a> in Charleston, South Carolina, told Insider that his favorite grocery-store item is Duke's Mayonnaise.</p><p>He added, "People might ask, 'You're a chef, why not make your own mayo?' [but] once you've tasted the best mayo on earth why try and compete with perfection?"</p><h2>Another said he and his colleagues oftentimes purchase grocery-store sushi</h2><p>Chef Jim Stein, formerly of <a href="http://mccradystavern.com/">McCrady's Tavern</a> and <a href="http://mccradysrestaurant.com/home-page/">McCrady's</a> in Charleston, South Carolina, told Insider that he and several of his chef colleagues frequently buy grocery-store sushi.</p><p>"After a long day in a hot kitchen eating [and] <a href="https://www.insider.com/foods-youre-eating-incorrectly-2018-11">tasting hot food,</a> a lot of chefs end up eating cold leftovers or snacks that are in the reach-ins or walk-in coolers," said Stein.</p><p>He said cold snacks are super refreshing, and <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-and-worst-things-to-order-at-sushi-place-2020-2">nothing is better than a spicy tuna and avocado roll. </a></p><h2>This one chef said he enjoys birthday cake from Publix, an employee-owned supermarket chain</h2><p>Kevin Johnson, executive chef at and owner of <a href="http://www.thegrocerycharleston.com/index.php">The Grocery</a> in Charleston, South Carolina, said he has a soft spot for Publix's birthday cake.</p><p>"There is something nostalgic about that mysteriously moist cake and extremely sweet icing that I really enjoy," Johnson told Insider.</p><p>He said he wouldn't even mind <a href="https://www.insider.com/easy-ways-to-make-boxed-cake-mix-better-2018-7">skipping a homemade cake</a> on his birthday in favor of one of these premade desserts. </p><h2>This chef said he has a special place in his heart for fried chicken from Publix </h2><p>Chef Erik Niel of <a href="http://www.easybistro.com/">Easy Bistro and Bar</a> and <a href="http://www.mainstreetmeatschatt.com/">Main Street Meats</a> in Chattanooga, Tennessee, said his favorite grocery-store purchase is Publix's fried chicken - eaten cold. </p><h2>This chef said she always keeps eggs in her fridge </h2><div type="image" title="eggs" height="3552" width="4736" msid="79688293" hostid="261"></div><p>Katy Smith, executive creative chef at the California-based taqueria <a href="https://eatpuesto.com/">Puesto</a>, said she always makes sure to keep her fridge stocked with eggs.</p><p>"The obvious use is eggs for weekend breakfasts, but sometimes we have breakfast for dinner for a quick, vegetarian weeknight meal," Smith told Insider.</p><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/what-to-add-to-eggs-according-to-chefs-2019-1">She said she also uses eggs</a> to make carbonara sauce, vegetable frittatas, and savory Dutch babies, a type of popover.</p><p>Smith also said she sometimes fries eggs and puts them on top of rice bowls that <a href="https://www.insider.com/reheating-leftovers-taste-better-2018-8">include leftovers from the restaurant she works at.  </a></p><h2>This chef said she uses a lot of peanut butter at home and sometimes even eats it by the spoonful</h2><p>Samantha Davis, former chef du cuisine at <a href="http://henrynomad.com/">Henry</a> at Life Hotel in NYC, told Insider that peanut butter is one of her grocery-store staples.</p><p>"I use and eat so much peanut butter at home," said Davis. "If I'm not eating cereal, I am eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or scooping a spoon out and eating it alone."</p><p>She said if she is cooking at home, she'll get a rotisserie chicken and lettuce to make wraps. She'll top them with a simple sauce made with peanut butter, brown sugar, lime juice, soy sauce, chili pepper, and fish sauce. </p><h2>This chef said he appreciates the simplicity of Trader Joe's banana-bread mix</h2><p>"I love the <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-things-to-buy-at-trader-joes-2019-3">Trader Joe's banana-bread mix</a> because it is made with totally organic ingredients - all you have to do is add milk, eggs, and oil," Peter Smith, executive chef at <a href="https://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/ctdca-jw-marriott-desert-springs-resort-and-spa/">JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa</a>, told Insider.</p><p>He said one of the best parts of the mix is just how simple it is to make. </p><h2>This chef said freeze-dried fruit is a healthy snack that can double as a tasty garnish</h2><p>Matt Griffin, executive chef and partner at <a href="https://www.happycookingnyc.com/">Happy Cooking Hospitality</a>, a restaurant group based in NYC's West Village, said he likes freeze-dried fruit because it's "totally snack-able and healthy on its own."</p><p>He said freeze-dried fruit is such a versatile pantry staple, too.
