The flood situation in Assam further deteriorated with over 16.50 lakh population affected in <keyword id="22282191" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="29-districts" source="keywords">29 districts</keyword> with the major rivers flowing above the danger level across the state on Thursday, an official bulletin said. Sarma chaired a meeting on the flood situation with all District Commissioners late on Wednesday night and directed them to be liberal in granting <keyword id="19934094" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="relief" source="keywords">relief</keyword> as per norms, complete all rehabilitation claims as per norms before August 15 and provide accurate information to the headquarters so that adequate relief can be ensured. Cabinet ministers will also be camping in the flood-affected districts for the next three days from Thursday. The death toll in this year's flood, landslide and storm has increased to 56 and three others are reported missing. The severely affected flood districts are Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Charaideo, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, East Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur and Tinsukia districts. Dhubri is the worst hit with over 2.23 lakh people suffering, followed by Darrang with nearly 1.84 lakh people and Lakhimpur with more than 1.66 lakh people reeling under flood waters. Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger marks at Nimatighat, Tezpur, Guwahati, Goalpara and Dhubri. Its tributaries Subansiri at Badatighat, Burhi Dihing at Chenimari, Dikhou at Sivasagar, Disang at Nanglamuraghat, Dhansiri at Numaligarh, and Kopili at Kampur and Dharamtul are flowing above the danger levels. The Barak river is flowing above the danger mark at AP Ghat, BP Ghat, Chota Bakra and Fuletrak, while its tributaries Dhaleswari at Gharmura, Katakhal at Matizuri and Kushiyara at Karimganj town and are also flowing above the danger marks.

Assam flood situation deteriorates, 16.50 lakh people affected in 29 districts

Assam's COVID-19 cases crossed the 1,200-mark on Saturday with 159 people, including 20 air travellers, across districts testing positive for the disease, state Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. With these cases, the total number of COVID-19 patients has gone up to 1,216 in the state from 1,057 on Friday. OF the total cases, 1,046 are active, Sarma said in a tweet. According to the reports of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), following torrential rains in Assam, other neighbouring states and the neighbouring country Bhutan, the water levels of several rivers are flowing above the danger level mark and inundated new areas. Assam: Nearly 1.20 lakh people in 20 districts affected by floods

With this there are total 350 COVID-19 positive cases in the state. Of the 350, 286 are active cases, while 57 have recovered, four have died and three migrated out of the state. "All connecting roads to the OIL's oil well site have been submerged with flood water. Bridges were damaged. At many places water is flowing over the road with knee to waist deep water. OIL's operational areas are heavily inundated," an OIL release said. A massive fire broke out on June 9 at OIL's Baghjan oil well near the Dibru-Saikhowa National Park that had been spewing natural gas and oil condensates uncontrollably since May 27. An important bridge en route to Baghjan, around 550 km east of Guwahati, was damaged due to the floods and the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has asked the official to build a bailey bridge for unimpeded movement of emergency services. Assam flood situation worsens, 4.63 lakh people affected across 1,289 villages

The flood situation in Assam continued to improve on Sunday as water level is receding fast across the state, officials said. The India Meteorological Department's Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in <keyword id="19941239" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Guwahati" source="keywords">Guwahati</keyword> has also not issued any warning except predicting some rains in Barak valley and a few districts of central Assam. The report said more than 8,40,000 people are hit due to the floods in Barpeta, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karimganj, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar and South Salmara districts. Cachar is the worst hit with nearly 1.5 lakh people suffering, followed by Dhubri with almost 1.27 lakh people and Nagaon with more than 88,500 people reeling under <keyword id="22312557" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="flood-waters" source="keywords">flood waters</keyword>, it added. The administration has been operating 221 <keyword id="20764825" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="relief-camps" source="keywords">relief camps</keyword> and relief distribution centres across 13 districts, taking care of 72,046 displaced people at present. The authority has distributed 616.49 quintals of rice, 111.65 quintals of dal, 32.16 quintals of salt and 2,956.25 litres of mustard oil among the flood victims of the state during the last 24 hours. At present, 1,705 villages are under water and 39,898.92 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across Assam, the ASDMA said. Embankments, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged by flood waters in Barpeta, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Morigaon, Nagaon and Sivasagar. At present, the mighty Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Nimatighat, Tezpur and Dhubri. Its tributaries Burhidihing at Chenimari and Disang at Nanglamuraghat are flowing above the danger levels. The Barak river's tributary Kushiyara is also flowing above the danger marks at Karimganj town, ASDMA said. On account of widespread flooding, over 5,03,400 <keyword id="22405280" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-animals" source="keywords">domestic animals</keyword> and poultry are affected across the state.

(Eds: Updating) Guwahati, Jun 14 () The number of coronavirus cases in Assam reached 4,118 after 218 more people tested positive for the pathogen on Sunday, Health and Family Welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. "Alert ~ 69 new #COVID19+ cases reported. 16 Nagaon, 15 Dhubri, 12 Kamrup, 10 Jorhat, 6 Dhemaji, 4 Udalguri, 3 Kamrup (R), 3 Barpeta," he said. Earlier during the day, Sarma said in a series of tweets that 149 more people tested positive for novel coronavirus. Out of these 149 cases, 54 are from Kamrup, 46 from Nagaon, 13 from Darrang, 10 each from Barpeta and Golaghat, three from Karimganj, two each from Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Jorhat, Baksa and Chirang, and one each from Cachar, Karbi Anglong and Bongaigaon districts, he added. At present, there are 2,147 active cases in the state. Sarma further said that 155 people recovered from COVID-19 and were discharged from various civil, district and model hospitals across the state. So far, eight patients have died due to the disease, while 1,960 have been cured and discharged from hospitals, he added. Besides, three more patients have migrated to other states, the minister said. With this, the COVID-19 tally rose to 4,049 in the state, he said. "Alert ~ 106 new #COVID19+ cases reported. 32 Nagaon, 28 Kamrup, 16 Kamrup, 13 Darrang, 10 Barpeta, 3 Karimganj, 2 Lakhimpur, 1 Dhemaji, 1 Cachar," Sarma added. COVID-19 cases in Assam cross 4,000-mark

Guwahati, Jun 9 () Thirty-three fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in Assam on Tuesday, taking the state's tally to 2,868, Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. A person also died due to COVID-19, taking the state's death toll to five. The patient, who tested positive after returning from Chennai, died on Monday at Diphu Medical College and Hospital, the minister said. Of the fresh cases, 17 were reported from Tinsukia, four from Jorhat, three from Barpeta, two each from Chirang, Karbi Anglong and Nagaon, and one each from Baksa, Golaghat, and Majuli. COVID-19 cases have been detected in all the districts with Hojai, Dhubri, Kamrup (Metro) and Golaghat leading the tally. A total of 2,868 cases have been reported in the state since the inter-state movement of people began on May 4. There are 2,076 active cases in the state at present, 784 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovery and three others migrated to their states. Sarma said Diphu Medical College has been also accredited by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for COVID-19 testing and with this, all the seven medical colleges in the state got approval for coronavirus tests. 33 fresh COVID-19 cases in Assam, 1 more dies

Guwahati, Jun 18 () One more person died of COVID- 19 in Assam on Thursday, raising the death toll due to coronavirus in the state to nine, while 82 people tested positive taking the total number of cases to 4,777, Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. The person died in Diphu Medical College and Hospital and this is the second death from Karbi Anglong district. Out of the nine deaths, three cancer patients succumbed to the infection. Among the people who tested positive for the disease on Thursday, 22 are from Baksa, 14 from Karbi Anglong, 11 from Chirang, 9 from Dibrugarh, seven from Dhubri, five from Golaghat, two each from Sibsagar, Nagaon, Barpeta and Kamrup (M) and one each from Bishwanath, Nalbari, Charaideo, Tinsukia, Kokrajhar and Dhemaji, the minister said. Of the total 4,777 cases in Assam, nine people have died, 2,111 are active cases while three persons have migrated out, he said. Meanwhile, 12 more patients were released late on Wednesday night after they tested negative, taking the total number of patients discharged on Thursday to 243, he said. The state's recovery rate has improved to over 57 per cent with the number of discharged people reaching 2,654, higher than the number of active cases, he said. Meanwhile, the Assam Targeted Surveillance Program (ATSP), aiming to conduct more than 50,000 random tests during a week, continued for the second day on Thursday. "We aim to conduct more than 50,000 random testings in a weeks time, targeting vulnerable areas," he said. Under the ATSP, samples of people working in locations such as truck parking places, loading and unloading centres, godown areas, weigh bridges and dhabas will be collected and tested. Staff of hotels used as institutional quarantine will also be tested along with frontline officials like police personnel, the minister said. The ATSP will also cover family members/co-residents of homes of persons who have been released from institutional quarantine, he added. The minister said that the future course of action for containment of coronavirus pandemic in Guwahati shall be based on the result of these tests. The entire exercise was expected to be completed by June 27 and shall involve the deputy commissioner of each district who will ensure the availability of adequate facilities, the minister said. (Eds: Adding fresh inputs) Guwahati, Jun 18 () One more COVID-19 fatality was reported in Assam, taking the coronavirus death toll in the state to nine while 166 people including 25 from an army camp, tested positive pushing the tally to 4,861 on Thursday, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said. One person died in Diphu Medical College and Hospital and this is the second death from Karbi Anglong district. Of the nine deaths reported so far, three are cancer patients. Eighty-four people tested positive for COVID-19 in the night while 82 others were detected during the day, the minister said. Of the 84 cases reported during the night, 25 are from Misamari Military Camp in Sonitpur district, 16 from Kamrup (M), 14 from Hailakandi, 13 from Karimganj, eight from Tezpur, five from Nagaon, two from Lakhimpur and one from Golaghat Among the patients detected during the day, 22 are from Baksa, 14 from Karbi Anglong, 11 from Chirang, 9 from Dibrugarh, seven from Dhubri, five from Golaghat, two each from Sibsagar, Nagaon, Barpeta and Kamrup(M) and one each from Bishwanath, Nalbari, Charaideo, Tinsukia, Kokrajhar and Dhemaji, the minister said. "We are pursuing the strategy of active tracing and testing in our bid to contain any further spread of coronavirus", the minister said.
