A PTI report says that this decision will be made after seeking legal advice, as stated by government adviser Mohammad Ali Shabbir. The assurance came after a delegation from the Telangana Sikh Society, led by former IPS officer Tejdeep Kaur Menon, met with Shabbir at the Secretariat in Hyderabad. The 18-member group expressed their deep concerns about the film, fearing that it portrays the Sikh community in a negative light. According to Shabbir, the delegation claimed that "Emergency" portrays Sikhs as terrorists and anti-nationals—a depiction they find offensive and damaging to the community’s image. They urged the state government to ban the film's screening in Telangana. Following the meeting, Shabbir relayed the group's concerns to Chief Minister Reddy, who promised that the government would make a decision on the matter after consulting with legal experts. Earlier this week, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had issued a legal notice to Ranaut and the film's producers, demanding the removal of the film's trailer, which had been released earlier this month. SGPC Secretary Partap Singh had voiced strong objections to the film, revealing that the committee had also sent letters to the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting and the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to request a ban on Emergency. Singh had also accused Ranaut of hurting Sikh sentiments, claiming that several "anti-Sikh scenes" had come to light since the trailer's release. The controversy gained further momentum last week when both the GDPC and the Akal Takht called for an immediate ban on the film. They alleged that Emergency attempts to "character assassinate" Sikhs by creating a negative narrative against them. SGPC Chief Harjinder Singh Dhami held a press conference, demanding that an FIR be filed against Ranaut and expressing his strong objections to the film. Dhami had said that this was not the first time Sikh sentiments have been hurt by misrepresentation in films. He also criticised the CBFC as being "biased" and urged for the inclusion of Sikh members on the censor board to ensure fair representation. The arrest, the first of a sitting chief minister, came hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant protection to the <keyword id="19914482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aap" source="keywords">AAP</keyword> national convenor from any coercive action by the agency. The 55-year-old leader's arrest, amid campaign for the <keyword id="19895394" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha" source="keywords">Lok Sabha</keyword> elections, drew angry reactions from his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Soon after the high court order, an ED team reached his residence and carried out searches. Subsequently, he was arrested, officials said. Officials said the ED would produce the chief minister before a court here on Friday and seek his custody for interrogation. As the ED officials carried out their action inside, additional Delhi Police personnel and Rapid Action Force (RAF) and CRPF teams were deployed around the chief minister's residence. The additional deployment was made as the ED sought extra security measures in anticipation of protests by AAP supporters, sources said. A large number of AAP workers and leaders gathered near the chief minister's residence and shouted slogans against the ED action. During the day, <keyword id="19895701" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kejriwal" source="keywords">Kejriwal</keyword> moved the Supreme Court against the high court's order denying him any relief in the matter. AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh are in judicial custody in the case. Kejriwal's name has been mentioned multiple times in the charge sheets filed by the ED. The agency has alleged that the accused were in touch with Kejriwal for formulating the excise policy that resulted in undue benefits to them in return for which they paid kickbacks to the AAP.

Charanjit Singh Channi to be next Chief Minister of Punjab

According to some senior party leaders, the high command had categorically asked Amarinder Singh to step down. The minute-by-minute changing political tussle began at about 11.42 p.m. on Friday when Punjab Congress in-charge Harish Rawat tweeted about the decision to hold an urgent CLP meeting on Saturday. Almost 10 minutes later state party chief Navjot Sidhu directed all the MLAs to be present at the CLP meeting. The announcement by Rawat was seen as an indication from the high command to appoint the new incumbent under whose helm the party will go to Assembly polls, slated in March 2022. Adopting a graded approach to reopening, <keyword id="6354953" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="punjab">Punjab</keyword> <keyword id="5269" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chief-Minister">Chief Minister</keyword> <keyword id="6361287" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amarinder-singh">Amarinder Singh</keyword> on Monday ordered extension of Covid-19 state wide restrictions to June 15 with certain relaxations, including allowing opening of shops till 6 p.m. and private offices functioning at 50 percent strength. However, night curfew will remain in force from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays, including Saturdays, and a regular daylong weekend curfew on Sundays, he announced. With case positivity declining to 3.2 per cent and active cases also coming down, the Chief Minister allowed gatherings up to 20 people, including weddings and cremations. Entry restrictions (negative <keyword id="8764262" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid">Covid</keyword> test or vaccination) for arrivals in the state have also been done away with. Recruitment exams will be allowed to be held subject to adherence to social distancing and other appropriate norms, though the online mode should be preferred. Sports training for national and international events has also been permitted and the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs has been asked to issue the necessary instructions and guidelines, which have to be strictly adhered to. Reviewing the COVID situation virtually, with ministers, senior police and administrative officials, and health experts, the Chief Minister said district administration may determine opening of non-essential shops, including on weekends, on the basis of local situation, while ensuring that crowding, leading to spread of COVID, is avoided. On government offices, he said that attendance can be decided by the head of the office but co-morbid or disabled employees at risk may be exempted. Further relaxations will be allowed in the coming weeks depending on the outcomes, if the cases continue to decline, said Amarinder Singh, adding that gyms and restaurants could be opened after a week with 50 per cent, and other conditions as per expert advice, if the situation improves further. Owners and workers of gyms and restaurants should get themselves vaccinated prior to the reopening, he added. Asserting that Punjab could not afford to let its guard down despite the decline in case load and increasing in testing, the Chief Minister said the virus mutations were a matter of concern, even though the case fatality rate (CFR) was lower than the first wave. Referring to the spread of black fungus, he said there are currently 381 cases in the state, of which 38 have already been cured and 265 are undergoing treatment. There is an adequate supply of drugs for treatment, he assured the people, adding that his government would continue to augment the supplies and ensure that there is no shortage of any essential drug in the state. For better management of cases, the Chief Minister asked the departments to reduce testing time. Post-COVID complications should be studied carefully for better preparation to handle those, he said, citing the example of 'Flying Sikh' and legendary athlete <keyword id="6386353" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="milkha-singh">Milkha Singh</keyword>, who was discharged after COVID recovery but had to be again hospitalised. He said he had been informed that 20 per cent of patients in hospitals in Patiala are similar cases of recovered patients being readmitted.
