The <keyword id="884194" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chhattisgarh-tourism-board" source="Orion">Chhattisgarh Tourism Board</keyword> (CTB) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (<keyword id="65866" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="irctc" source="Orion">IRCTC</keyword>) to promote tourist places of the state through the PSU's social media platform, a government official here said. The agreement, signed in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel during the Tourism Conclave organized here by CTB to mark the World Tourism Day, will boost the key sector in the state, he said. Under the MoU, the IRCTC will promote tourist places of <keyword id="43945" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chhattisgarh" source="Orion">Chhattisgarh</keyword> through its social media platform, thereby helping attract travellers from other parts of the country, the official said. Speaking on the occasion, Baghel highlighted the uniqueness of Chhattisgarh's rich culture and history and stressed on the need to showcase them to the world. "Earlier, the mere mention of Chhattisgarh conjured up images of Maoist violence and mineral resources. Tourism in the state was neglected for a long time and even after the formation of the state (in 2000) it could not get due popularity and the focus remained centred on Maoist issues," he said. There was a need to put tourist places of Chhattisgarh on the world tourism map and his government was continuously making efforts in this direction, the chief minister added. Meanwhile, the CM also unveiled a statue of Chendru Mandavi, popularly known as 'tiger boy' from Bastar's Narayanpur district, who gained international fame after starring in the movie "Jungle Saga", directed by noted Swedish filmmaker Arne Sucksdroff in the late 1950s, the official said. Mandavi's grandfather had rescued a tiger cub from jungles and gifted it to him in his childhood. He reared the tiger named Tembu. The Swedish filmmaker had visited Mandavi's village Gadhbengal (Narayanpur district) and made a film on him, he said. Baghel also released a memento of CTB depicting the friendship of Mandavi, who died in 2013, and the tiger. According to the Right to Education Act (RTE), the students get access to ‘free and compulsory’ elementary education (6-14 years).

Nearly 16 crore voters would be eligible to cast their votes in these elections, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar said at a press conference while asserting that strong measures are being put in place to make these polls inducement-free. Voting for all 40 assembly seats in Mizoram will take place on November 7 along with the first phase of polling for 20 seats in Chhattisgarh. The remaining 70 seats in Chhattisgarh will go to polls on November 17 alongside all 230 seats in Madhya Pradesh. Voting for all 200 assembly seats in Rajasthan will take place on November 23, while the 119-member Telangana Assembly will be the last to go to polls on November 30. Counting of votes for all five states will take place on December 3, CEC Kumar said. This will be the last set of assembly elections ahead of the Lok Sabha polls next year. While Congress is in power in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh is ruled by BJP, Telangana by Bharat Rashtra Samithi and Mizoram by Mizo National Front (MNF). Kumar said these five states will have 1.77 lakh polling stations, of which 1.01 lakh will have webcasting facility. More than 8,000 polling stations will be managed by women, he said. "We have gathered here after a gap of six months. These elections are significant for the country and after this, we will meet for the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections," Kumar said. "We have met all stakeholders, including political parties and enforcement agencies, while preparing for the assembly elections in Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana," he said. The CEC said the Election Commission (EC) has given a special emphasis on making electoral rolls inclusive and the focus will also be on "roll-to-poll", or ensuring that all voters come to vote. Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Mizoram will have 8.2 crore male and 7.8 crore female voters, while there will be 60.2 lakh first-time voters, he said. For the first time, Kumar said, a new Election Seizure Management System is being introduced for the <keyword id="6372725" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="assembly-polls" source="Orion">assembly polls</keyword> to enhance oversight to ensure inducement-free elections. A total of 940 checkposts have been put in place for a strict vigil along interstate borders and to dry up inflow of illicit liquor, cash, freebies and drugs, he said. There will be zero tolerance for the use of money power and there will be a strict vigil over suspicious online cash transfers through wallets as well, the CEC said.

New Delhi, Mar 19 () Highway developer Dilip Buildcon on Thursday said it has bagged a Rs 860.50 crore road project in Chhattisgarh from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). In a regulatory filing the company said it has received the letter of acceptance (LOA) from NHAI for the said road project in Chhattisgarh. "The company has received the letter of acceptance (LOA) on March 18, 2020 from the NHAI for new Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) project in the state of Chhattisgarh," the filing said. The project envisages four-laning "with paved shoulder configuration of Pathrapali-Kathghora...of Bilaspur-Kathghora section of NH-111...in the State of Chhattisgarh under Bharatmala on hybrid annuity mode by NHAI, the filing said. Dilip Buildcon bags Rs 860-cr road project in Chhattisgarh from NHAI

RAIPUR: Maoists ambushed a team of security personnel in tribal Bastar region on Friday, killing seven security personnel including a <keyword id="42808" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sub-inspector">sub-inspector</keyword> near Kuakonda in Dantewada district of <keyword id="43945" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Chhattisgarh">Chhattisgarh</keyword>. 
 Quoting preliminary reports, police said a sub-inspector <keyword id="562831" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Vivek-Shukla">Vivek Shukla</keyword> was among the dead. The security personnel were part of a road opening party (ROP) when the rebels attacked them. 
 The incident took place in Shyamgiri hills, under <keyword id="289665" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kuakonda-police">Kuakonda police</keyword> station limits, in Dantewada district. The <keyword id="6361689" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Naxalites">Naxalites</keyword> set ablaze motorcycles, belonging to the security personnel, and also looted their weapons. 
 
Two security personnel, who were injured in the encounter, have been evacuated and are now being shifted to the hospital at Jagdalpur. 
 
Police said encounter was still on as the forces retaliated fire. 
 
Additional security reinforcements have been rushed to the spot to carryout search and combing operations to flush out the rebels.

6 Police Personnel Killed In Maoist Attack In Chhattisgarh

Eleven personnel of the <keyword id="76600" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Reserve-Police-Force">Central Reserve Police Force</keyword> (<keyword id="6354354" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CRPF">CRPF</keyword>) were killed during an encounter with Maoists in <keyword id="43945" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chhattisgarh">Chhattisgarh</keyword>'s Sukma district. The encounter, which took place at around 12.25 pm, happened in the Burkapal-Chintagufa area, worst Maoist violence-affected district in south Bastar. As per initial reports, six jawans were injured in the attack. "The Naxals fired at a patrolling party of the CRPF near Burkapal village leaving six personnel injured," special director general (anti-Naxal operations) of Chhattisgarh Police, D M Awasthi told PTI. he jawans are from the 74th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). "A helicopter has already left for the spot to evacuate the injured. The encounter is still on," a senior officer said.

New Delhi, Dec 17 () The Chhattisgarh government has extended leases of state-owned NMDC's four mines in the state, to avoid interruptions in iron ore supply to the steel sector.
 As the result of the move, operations of the country's largest iron ore miner NMDC will not be affected in the state and the company will be able to supply raw material to steel makers.
 Earlier, NMDC had to suspend iron ore mining at its Donimalai mine in Karnataka following a decision of the state government to impose 80 per cent premium on the iron ore sales from the mine.
 NMDC Chairman and Managing Director N Baijendra Kumar said iron ore mines have been extended for another 20 years
 "We are grateful to the Government of Chhattisgarh and especially Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and top officials for their support to NMDC in granting extension of lease for the four mines for another 20 years," he said.
 The lease of the mines were due for extension in March 2020, an NMDC official said.
 Last month, the company said the Chhattisgarh government has assured the public sector undertaking of renewing mining leases in the Dantewada district for another 20 years.
 The state-owned firm, which has been in the business of mining iron ore for over six decades, operates three iron ore complexes in the country.
 While one is located at Donimalai in Karnataka, two are in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh contributing 70 per cent to the company's total output.
 Of the NMDC's 33 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) production, Chhattisgarh's two complexes in Bacheli and Kirandul under the Bailadila project contribute about 24 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in 2018-19.
