Fans of late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington are sharing his anti-Trump tweets after the president retweeted a video using the band's music

His body was discovered Thursday morning, according to TMZ's sources.</p><p>Bennington was close friends with fellow rocker Chris Cornell, who also committed suicide by hanging in May. Thursday would have been Cornell's 53rd birthday.</p><p>Linkin Park had a string of hits in the late 1990 and early 2000s. "We had just told Chester that we wanted him to join the band. He said he was ready to move out from Arizona to L.A. We went to a pizza place near UCLA to hang out and talk about what to do next."</span>&#xa0;</p><p>In the band's emotional tribute letter issued the same day, the group reflected on Bennington's talents, charisma, and personal demons. Linkin Park's Mike Shinoda remembers Chester Bennington with the first photo they took together

"When I heard Chester died, I immediately thought of that wall because I knew some of the band members lived in the Valley. I just texted Jim [Conners, the pizzeria owner] and offered to do it for free because it was the right thing to do."</span></p><p>Conners, the owner of Rock N' Pies pizzeria, told Variety&#xa0;that the mural has brought attention to his restaurant and even caused a commotion of sorts on the 101 highway bordering the back of the store.</p><p><span>"I was leaving the kitchen last night at 11:30, and I was greeted by flashing lights, people taking pictures," Conners told the outlet</span><span>. "When Jonas was working on it, everyone in their cars on the 101 were beeping their horns and cheering him on."</span></p><p><span>Bennington was laid to rest over the weekend as well. We had a fairytale life and now it has turned into some sick Shakespearean tragedy. How do I move on? How do I pick up my shattered soul? The only answer I know is to raise our babies with every ounce of love I have left. I want to let my community and the fans worldwide know that we feel your love. We feel your loss as well. My babies are so young to have lost their daddy. And I know that all of you will help keep his memory alive. He was a bright, loving soul with an angel's voice. And now he is pain-free singing his songs in all of our hearts. May God bless us all and help us turn to one another when we are in pain. Chester would've wanted us to do so. Rest In Peace, my love."</p><p>Bennington, 41, was outspoken about his struggle with drugs and alcohol, and reportedly hanged himself. Linkin Park had a string of hits in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and Bennington's vocals were one of the band's trademarks. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Linkin Park's news that singer Emily Armstrong would be joining the band was met with immediate backlash.</li><li>Armstrong has been called out for attending a hearing for Danny Masterson before his rape conviction.</li></ul><p>Linkin Park's new frontwoman Emily Armstrong has responded to the backlash over her perceived previous support of Danny Masterson.</p><p>Earlier this week, the rock band announced that it was reuniting with Armstrong taking over vocals following the death of lead singer Chester Bennington in 2017.</p><p>But Armstrong's signing sparked an almost immediate backlash from people who pointed out her alleged previous support of convicted rapist and actor Masterson.</p><p>Armstrong attended one of Masterson's preliminary hearings in 2020, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://deadline.com/2024/09/linkin-park-emily-armstrong-apologizes-danny-masterson-support-1236080861/">Deadline</a> reported.</p><p>Armstrong has now addressed the claims in a post she shared on her Instagram Stories.</p><p>Without directly naming Masterson, she wrote: "Hi, I'm Emily. I'm new to so many of you, and I wanted to clear the air about something that happened a while back."</p><p>"Several years ago, I was asked to support someone I considered a friend at a court appearance, and went to one early hearing as an observer," she continued.</p><div type="image" title="Armstrong addressed her support for Danny Masterson in a statement shared on Instagram." height="1280" width="720" msid="113155558" hostid="261" sizebytes="56330"></div><p>"Soon after, I realized I shouldn't have. I always try to see the good in people, and I misjudged him. I have never spoken with him since," she went on. "Unimaginable details emerged and he was later found guilty."</p><p>She added: "To say it as clearly as possible: I do not condone abuse or violence against women, and I empathize with the victims of these crimes."</p><p>Masterson, best known for his role in the sitcom "That 70's Show," was <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/danny-masterson-sentenced-30-years-prison-that-70s-show-2023-9">sentenced to 30 years to life in prison in 2023</a> after being found guilty on two counts of rape.</p><p>The incidents occurred between 2001 and 2003 when he was at the height of his fame.</p><p>Prosecutors said Masterson used his position in the Church of Scientology to try to silence the accusations.</p><p>The Mars Volta singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala and his wife Chrissie Carnell Bixler, who is one of several women to have accused Masterson of sexual assault, were among those to have called out Armstrong.</p><p>Bixler-Zavala reposted to his Instagram Stories a comment he previously left on the Instagram page for Dead Sara, Armstrong's longtime band.</p><p>"Do your fans know about your friend Danny Masterson? <ul class="summary-list"><li>Software engineer Brian Feldman created an archive of topics that trended on Twitter this year.</li><li>The project revealed themes of global political unrest alongside memes and pop culture trends.</li></ul><p>When writer and software engineer Brian Feldman created <a href="https://www.whatshappening.online/timeline">an archive</a> of topics that trended on Twitter this year, he set out to capture a snapshot of his experience while using the social media platform — and instead found broad themes that revealed global political unrest, pop culture fads, and a company wrestling with how to best explain why people were talking about it at all.</p><p>Initially inspired to catalog Twitter's attempts to describe trending current events, Feldman took screenshots of trending topics each time he logged on to the platform, focusing on those that had a staff-created written description about why the topic was trending.</p><p>"I didn't want to try and present some sort of objective tabulation of it because there was no way I was ever going to get there," Feldman told Insider. "I would much rather sort of embrace that. Like, this was my experience checking in on Twitter. And maybe you have a similar experience, maybe you have a different one. But, you can only really sort of see that when someone presents something like this."</p><p>The list of 457 different trending topics each highlighted a moment that Twitter showed Feldman users commenting en masse about a singular topic. Included among the recorded phrases were "Goth Clowns," a trending misreading of the words "cloth gowns" seen written on a sign, "Seek the Lord," after Christian users posted prayers referencing Isaiah 55:6, and "Red Lobster," following radio show host Jesse Kelly awarding Rep. Lauren Boebert <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/lauren-boebert-accepts-misspelled-hottest-award-red-lobster-card-1678551">a Red Lobster gift card for being the "hottest woman in Congress."</a></p><p>"I think generally, when these trends appeared, and when they appeared with a written description, they were either people are like, really happy about something, or something has sparked discussion," Feldman said, noting that most descriptions on Twitter that he observed over the course of the project seemed to avoid using negative language to point out why topics were trending.</p><p>"RIP Chester," an entry from July 25 reads, with a description elaborating: "<a href="https://www.insider.com/chester-benningtons-heartbreaking-farewell-letter-to-chris-cornell-2017-7">Chester Bennington</a> is being remembered after a clip featuring the late singer interacting with a person with a disability during a performance goes viral"</p><p>On August 30, a screenshot shows "Jen Psaki" trended with a description that read: "Joe Rogan comments on former White House press secretary Jen saki (sic) during the latest episode of his <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/joe-rogan-spotify-vaccine-misinformation-content-moderation-platform-publisher-2022-1">The Joe Rogan Experience podcast</a>."</p><p>From "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/adidas-bare-breast-campaign-for-sports-bras-sparks-debate-online-2022-2">Adidas</a>" to "<a href="https://www.insider.com/the-best-pop-culture-references-from-ted-lasso-season-two-2021-7">Ted Lasso</a>," the trending topics revealed pop culture fads and memes that moved Twitter users to conversation — and often argument — about their preferences and opinions. </p><p>"People like an opportunity to share even like their most mundane and strongly held opinions," Feldman said. "So like, there's one where people were weighing in on what the best ginger ale was."</p><p>Political themes were especially prevalent, with topics including "America's Hitler," "Ministry of Truth" and "Dobbs" trending, highlighting tension in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-asked-why-us-generals-not-loyal-like-nazi-generals-2022-8">US politics with conversations about Donald Trump</a>, the<a href="https://www.insider.com/disinformation-governance-board-dhs-right-misinformation-homeland-security-russia-2022-5">Biden administration's attempt at controlling misinformation</a> on Twitter, and the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/leaked-draft-opinion-appears-scotus-could-overturn-roe-v-wade-2022-5">Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v. Wade</a>, respectively.</p><p>Internationally, trends like "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cold-war-russia-china-ukraine-america-nuclear-scarier-foreign-policy-2022-3">Cold War</a>," "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/russian-warship-snake-island-attack-destroyed-report-says-2022-3">Russian Warship</a>," and "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/taiwan-looks-to-defend-against-decapitation-attack-amid-china-tensions-2022-10">Taiwan</a>" also demonstrated how political unrest is being felt around the globe.</p><p>Often, political conversations on the platform centralized around media personality who had said something controversial, Feldman noted, adding that the ones that were presented to him were most often conservative, despite not posting about his political views on Twitter.</p><p>"The sheer number of conservative media figures or politicians that have sort of captured the attention of the platform was sort of surprising to see in aggregate," Feldman, a former writer for The Washington Post, said. "As someone who used to work in media and still has colleagues who work in there or friends who talk about this stuff, it's easy to get numb to like mentions of Ben Shapiro, or Mitch McConnell, or whoever — but it was interesting to see that like, Twitter just sort of puts their names in front of everyone's face. Constantly."</p><p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ben-shapiro-storms-out-of-bbc-interview-2019-5">Ben Shapiro</a>, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/madison-cawthorn-congress-crypto-stock-act-lets-go-brandon-coin-2022-12">Madison Cawthorn</a>, <a href="https://www.insider.com/lauren-boebert-says-shes-been-blamed-for-club-q-shooting-2022-11">Lauren Boebert</a>, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-key-cases-civil-criminal-investigations-lawsuits-updates-2022-7">Donald Trump</a> were among the most frequent names, Feldman said, often appearing around conversations about Trump's legal troubles or cultural arguments about issues like gun control, "traditional masculinity," and the infrastructure spending package.</p><p>Feldman said that, of particular interest, were the staff-generated descriptions on these topics, which revealed how Twitter employees "wrestled" with curating the automatically created lists. The language used in the descriptions was often met with a sort of forced neutrality, Feldman said, where employees attempted to explain without bias why a particular topic was trending.</p><p>"I think that sort of interaction between automated systems and people having to wrestle with them and curate them and get them to be more useful than they might be in a fully automated world is interesting," Feldman said.
