The weather department predicted that low pressure was reaching the coast and this could lead to heavy rains in Chennai and adjoining districts till Thursday night. Weathermen said that rains could lash isolated areas in Chennai and adjoining districts and 20mm rainfall is expected on Wednesday and Thursday. The Meteorological Department has also reported that there will be squally weather with wind speed reaching 40kmph to 50kmph and could touch 60kmph for the two days. The low-pressure area with associated cyclonic circulation is over the Bay of Bengal and could reach the South Andhra Pradesh and North Tamil Nadu coast by November 18. Following heavy rains, waterlogging, and inundation in parts of Chennai and adjoining districts, several people were staying in relief camps and the Greater Chennai Corporation has been taking steps to relocate them back to their homes. However, around 848 people are still staying in relief camps. Even on Tuesday, 16 streets in nine locations of Chennai were flooded with water and water was being pumped out. According to a senior official with the Greater Chennai Corporation, 426 pumps were used for flushing out water. The Rangarajapuram subway was flooded and closed and traffic was diverted and Greater Chennai Corporation officials were gearing up to prepare themselves for the red alert warning. While speaking to media persons, Director of Tamil Nadu's Public Health services, T.S. Selvavinayagam, said, "We advise the elderly people and those with co-morbidities to stay away from closed spaces and to wear masks and maintain social distancing when they are outside places." In the last 24 hours, Tamil Nadu recorded 493 fresh cases. With this, the total number of active cases in the state has reached 2876 cases. Among the active Covid-19 cases reported, 137 were admitted to hospitals, two were in intensive care units (ICUs) while 51 were administered oxygen therapy. The daily Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in the state is 8.6. Chengalpattu and Kanniyakumari reported 12 and 11 TPR respectively while Chennai reported 10. Except for Ramanathapuram, Kallakurichi, Tenkasi and Villupuram, all other districts recorded fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours in Tamil Nadu. Chennai is the highest with 132 new cases followed by Coimbatore (43), Kanniyakumari (41), Chengalpattu (31), Tiruvallur (26) and Salem (23). Seven districts of the state reported fresh Covid-19 cases between 10 and 19 while the other districts reported in single digits. The TN health department has however said that there were no reasons to panic as the state has not witnessed any large rapidly rising clusters as was witnessed during the first three phases of Covid-19. Srinagar records the coldest night of the season on Wednesday

The district administration had on October 6 issued an order allowing 15,000 devotees who possessed online passes to take darshan per day, but in view of the fall in the cases, a proposal to allow more devotees possessing offline passes was received by authorities. As the online booking for 15,000 devotees will continue, it means a total of 25,000 devotees can now take darshan of Saibaba every day. "As per the decision, taken in a meeting, the Saibaba Temple Trust has been permitted to allow 10,000 devotees on daily basis through the offline system while following all the <keyword id="9353163" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="COVID-19-norms" source="Orion">COVID-19 norms</keyword>," said the official order issued by Ahmednagar district collector Rajendra Bhosale. The temple trust will have to give an undertaking that it would be following all the COVID-19 rules prescribed by the administration and the Maharashtra government, it said. Maharashtra allows 10,000 more devotees to visit Shirdi shrine per day with offline passes as COVID-19 cases continue to decline in the state

(Eds: adding details) Chennai, May 29 (): Nine more people succumbed to COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu, which witnessed its highest single day spike of 874 cases taking the infection count past the 20,000 mark, the health department said on Friday. With the latest fatalities, the death toll in the state has risen to 154. According to a department bulletin, the total number of positive cases stands at 20,246 till date. The number of active cases, including those people in isolation wards, was 8,776. Friday marked the third straight day when the number of positive cases crossed the 800 mark in the state. Among the 874 cases, 141 were those who had arrived from various states, the health bulletin said. As many as 11,313 people have been discharged in the state till date while the number of people cured today was 765. With the single biggest day surge of 618 cases, Chennai continued to lead in the number of COVID-19 cases among districts and now has a tally of 13,362 cases. Neighbouring Chengalpattu district also saw the cumulative cases touching 1,000 mark adding 61 fresh cases today. Among the fresh cases today,as many as 135 people from Maharashtra, three from Kerala, one each in West Bengal, Telangana, Karnataka tested positive for the virus. Those who succumbed to the virus today were--five men-- two aged over 80 years and two women (all from Chennai), a 77-year-old man from Thiruvallur and a woman of the same age from neighbouring Chengalpattu. The cyclone is very likely to move west northwestwards and cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mamallapuram around Puducherry during Wednesday midnight and early hours on Thursday as a very severe cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph. Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) shared the information on Wednesday based on 11.30 a.m. report of <keyword id="10161038" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-cyclone-warning-division">the Cyclone Warning Division</keyword> of the India Meteorology Department (IMD). As per the latest report, the cyclone moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 11 kmph during past six hours and lay centred at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday over <keyword id="10310481" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="southwest-bay">southwest Bay</keyword> of Bengal about 240 km east-southeast of Cuddalore, about 250 km east southeast of Puducherry and 300 km south southeast of Chennai. "It is very likely to intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm during next six hours," the IMD release said around 11.30 a.m. Fairly widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity is very likely over coastal and north interior Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema during Wednesday and Thursday, and southeast Telangana during Thursday. Extremely isolated heavy rainfall activity is also very likely over coastal and north interior Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Wednesday. Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Myladuthirai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kallakurchi, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Puducherry and Karaikal districts are to be affected. The cyclone will affect Nellore and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday and move over Rayalaseema and southeast Telangana on Thursday. Gale wind speed reaching 105-115 kmph gusting to 130 kmph is prevailing over Southwest Bay of Bengal. It would further increase becoming 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph during Wednesday afternoon to early hours on Thursday. Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph is prevailing along and off Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh coast and over Gulf of Mannar. The wind will gradually increase and become gale wind speed reaching 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph along and off coastal districts of north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry (Nagapattinam, Karaikal, Myladuthurai, Cuddalore, Puducherry, Villupuram and Chengalpattu) and 80-90 gusting to 100 kmph very likely over Tiruvarur, Kanchipuram, Chennai, Tiruvallur districts during Wednesday afternoon to early Thursday hours. Sea condition is very high over Southwest Bay of Bengal and very rough to high along and off Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, south Andhra Pradesh coasts and over Gulf of Mannar. It would gradually become phenomenal over Southwest Bay of Bengal and along and off north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry coasts during Wednesday afternoon and early hours on Thursday. Tidal wave of about 1-1.5m height above the astronomical tide is very likely to inundate the low-lying areas of north coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry near the place of landfall. Damage expected over Nagapattinam, Myladuthurai, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Chengalpattu districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal and Puducherry. Potential threat from flying objects. The cyclone will lead to disruption of railways, overhead powerlines and signalling systems. There are expectations of widespread damage to standing crops, plantations and orchards. "Small boats, country crafts may get detached from moorings. Visibility may be severely affected," warns IMD, suggesting "total suspension of fishing operations and mobilise evacuation from coastal areas." It was advised to move coastal hutment dwellers to safer places. The IMD advised people in affected areas to remain in safe places and indoors, warning that movement in motor boats and small ships is unsafe. In view of the current Covid-19 scenario, the MHA said that the NDRF teams are equipped with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). "NDRF is working in close coordination with district and local administrations. Awareness programmes are being conducted for all citizens in the form of information about cyclones, 'Dos and Don'ts' and information about Covid-19 in affected areas and prevention measures." (Eds: Adds details) Chennai, May 24 (): Tamil Nadu on Sunday recorded eight deaths due to COVID-19, taking the toll to 111 while 765 fresh cases saw the state's total infections breaching the 16,000 mark, the Health department said. A total of 833 people were discharged with the number eclipsing the day's new cases as the cumulative recoveries rose to 8,324, it said. The metropolis remained the worst hit, accounting for 587 more cases and its total alone crossed the 10,000 mark touched 10,576 out of the state's tally of 16,277. This was the fifth consecutive day when the state recorded over 700 cases and the number of active cases stood at 7,839. As many as 47 new cases were people who returned to the state from various places, including overseas, the bulletin said. Six people from the state capital and a 65-year old man and a 50-year old man from neighbouring Thiruvallur and Chengalpattu districts respectively became the latest fatalities to the deadly virus, the bulletin said adding all the eight were suffering from various ailments. According to the health department, 44 people travelled from Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Kerala and Karnataka and one each from Dubai, London and The Philippines tested positive for the virus on Sunday. Among those tested positive include 464 men and 301 women, the bulletin said. A man and woman, aged 96 and 95, and two one month old babies, all hailing from city, were among those who contracted the contagion on Sunday. Besides Chennai, neighbouring Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts witnessed hikes in the number of new cases. As many as 23 districts recorded 'nil' cases on Sunday while Ariyalur, Pudukottai, Theni and Thiruvarur registered one positive case each. The Health department advised people to adhere to health advisories issued and follow the cough etiquette by covering the face using handkerchief or towel while sneezing or coughing. VIJ VS VS

State's tally breaches 10,000 mark (Eds: adding details) Chennai, May 15(): Five people succumbed to COVID-19in Tamil Nadu on Friday while 434, including three one-month-old babies, tested positive, taking the number of cases pastthe 10,000 mark, the state health department said. The five fatalities include a 53-year-old womanfrom Chennai and another man from Tuticorin district. With this, the death toll in the state has risento 71, a bulletin issued by the department said. Of the 434 fresh cases, 49 are passengers whoarrived from overseas and other states. Six people from Maldives, 40 from Maharashtra,two from Gujarat and one passenger from Karnataka hadcontracted the contagion, the bulletin said.The total number of people who have tested positivefor the virus till date is 10,108, it said. Nearly 10,883 people were tested today at the 58COVID-19 testing facilities, the bulletin said, adding thenumber of active cases including those in isolation wards wasat 7,435. Those who tested positive on Friday include threeone-month-old babies and a one-year-old girl,all hailing fromChennai. The bulletin said 38 people above 60 years hadtested positive for the virus today. The day also saw 359 people getting dischargedfrom various hospitals, taking the tally to 2,599. Chennai continued to lead the State's tally with309 cases on Friday followed by Tiruvallur 21 and Chengalpattu20, it added. The State capital was also leading in the numberof fatalities with 48 of the total 71 in the state. According to the bulletin, the woman who diedwas suffering from coronary heart disease,diabetes and acutechronic kidney disease. Shimla, June 13 () The Himachal Pradesh government has revised its list of cities in the country having high prevalence of COVID-19 cases, a senior health official said on Saturday. Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman in his list revision order, issued on Friday, said entire Delhi along with Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmadabad, Thane, Pune, Hyderabad, Chengalpattu, Gurugram, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kolkata/Howrah and Indore cities have high load of coronavirus infection cases. Following revision of the list, Kangra and Hamirpur district magistrates Rakesh Kumar Prajapati and Harieksh Meena respectively issued an order for institutionally quarantine all people coming to the two districts from the 13 cities of the country. In his order, Meena said the persons coming to Hamirpur district from these areas would be institutionally quarantined for 14 days. DJI CORR RAX RAX
