Specifically, two patents filed by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. titled "An <keyword id="10884814" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-drive-system">Electric Drive System</keyword>, Powertrain, and <keyword id="381751" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Electric-vehicle">Electric Vehicle</keyword>". The patents were both filed on October 21, 2020, and have the application numbers CN112436747A and CN112436779A, reports GizmoChina. The patent description published with the model bearing the application number CN112436747A shows that this application provides an electric drive system, a powertrain, and an electric vehicle, which involves the <keyword id="10884813" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="technical-field">technical field</keyword> of electronic circuits. The second patent with application number CN112436779A is also for an electric drive system, a powertrain, and an electric vehicle, which involves the field of power electronics technology. Huawei is in talks with state-owned <keyword id="372509" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Changan-Automobile">Changan Automobile</keyword> and other automakers to use their car plants to make its electric vehicles (EVs). Huawei is also in discussions with Beijing-backed BAIC Group's BluePark New Energy Technology to manufacture its EVs. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, sales in the country <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chinas-auto-sales-see-biggest-drop-in-almost-7-years-2018-10">tumbled 11.6% year-over-year</a> in September, the largest drop in seven years.There are a number of reasons for the collapse in sales for Ford and the Chinese auto market in general:<ul><li> China's economy has slowed in recent months, with the International Monetary Fund <a href="http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1122273.shtml">marking down GDP growth projections</a> for the country and investment in infrastructure and businesses <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/chinese-economic-growth-slows-slightly-1531708688?mod=article_inline">also slowing</a>.</li><li>Another problem is the growing trade war <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-china-trade-war-tariff-chinese-goods-2018-9">between the US and China</a>, which may be partly to blame for the slowdown. In particular, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-china-trade-war-list-of-goods-tariffs-2018-9">cars from both countries</a> are now subject to tariffs, making it more expensive to import autos from the US to China and vice versa.</li><li>The increased costs could depress sales, <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/09/26/tariffs-cost-ford-1-billion-in-profit-and-hurt-sales-in-china.html">Ford has warned</a>, and the trade uncertainty contributed to the company's <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-autos-results-ford-motor/ford-cuts-2018-profit-forecast-tariffs-china-sales-hurt-second-quarter-idUSKBN1KF2UT">profit forecast cut in July</a>.</li><li>Additionally, while overall growth slowed in 2017, car sales in China were strong for the year.</li></ul>Add up all of those elements, and you end up with the sales disaster.The collapse in Chinese sales isn't the only trade-war related problem for Ford. CEO Jim Hackett revealed Trump's decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum coming into the US would <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/r-ford-ceo-says-metals-tariffs-cost-company-1-billion-2018-9?r=UK&amp;IR=T">cost the company $1 billion in 2018 and 2019</a>. The company also decided to not import a new SUV from China to the US, <a href="https://www.freep.com/story/money/cars/2018/08/31/citing-trade-war-ford-cancels-plan-import-small-suv-china/1156427002/">citing the trade war</a> as the reason for the decision.The trade war is exacerbating longstanding issues at the automaker, which is already in the midst of a global restructuring. Shanghai General Motors Co Ltd, GM's venture with SAIC Motor Corp &lt;600104.SS&gt;, will recall about 1.46 million Buick and Chevrolet models produced locally due to issues with a bracket that secures the fuel oil pump, the country's quality watchdog said on Friday.
Some of the recalled vehicles include the Chevy Sail which is exported to emerging markets, a Shanghai-basedGM official said.
Separately, the watchdog said Ford Motor Co's <F.N> joint venture with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co Ltd &lt;000625.SZ&gt; will recall close to 81,000 of its Kuga cars over a steering part.</F.N>
U.S. carmakers in China have outpaced growth in the overall market, boosted by their popular product line-ups and partly as Japanese rivals were hit last year by anti-Japan protests following a territorial dispute between Beijing and Tokyo.
GM sold 2.89 million vehicles in China in January-November, up 11.4 percent from a year earlier, while Ford sold 840,975 vehicles, up 51 percent.
Last month, Volkswagen's <VOWG_p.DE> Chinese unit recalled 640,309 vehicles for checks that they were using mineral oil rather than synthetic oil to avoid gearbox-related electronic flaws. That was part of a broader global recall over a range of issues with several models. It also pulled 207,778 Tiguan compact sport-utility vehicles off the road due to a risk of a partial light malfunction.</VOWG_p.DE>
GM makes vehicles in China in partnership with both FAW Group &lt;000800.SZ&gt; and SAIC. Ford has manufacturing and sales ventures in China with Changan Automobile and Jiangling Motors Corp &lt;000550.SZ&gt;.
