After leading the baton of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi">Prime Minister Narendra </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi">Modi</a>’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=digital+india">Digital India mission</a>, now, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Karnataka-government-sets-yet-another-example-access-4187-services-on-single-App/articleshow/48099007.cms">Karnataka’s Department of E-Governance</a> is showing promptness in rolling out services under the e-District program. 
 
As reported by The Economic Times, the state is all set to introduce 376 government services under the banner. Surprisingly, the count of services is four times more than BJP-ruled Maharashtra, where the number is limited to 85. This is the highest count in the country as of now. 
 <keyword id="2637574" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rathan-U-Kelkar">Rathan U Kelkar</keyword>, CEO of <keyword id="6354780" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka">Karnataka</keyword>’s <keyword id="1391650" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Centre-for-E-Governance">Centre for E-Governance</keyword>, told ET, "Other states have started earlier, but we feel we are in line with the requirements of Digital India as many of our departments are already ready with a lot of these services. We are integrating all of them on the e-district platform and with this; we will be number one in e-services in the country." 
 
The services in the e-District program will take account of services related to revenue department, motor vehicles department, education, police, forest, industries, Backward Classes department, registration of vehicles and land, among others. 
 
To avail the services, all that a native of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Karnataka">Karnataka </a>would have to do is visit a citizen service centre like the one in Banglore or Atal Janasnehi Kendra and provide a few relevant documents. The franchisee running the centre will do the rest of the required documentation and will sent it across to the concerned department via Internet. 
 
Kelkar informed, "We will have about 5,000 such centers in the state, almost one for each gram panchayat. The citizen will ask for his requirement, the franchise will upload all documents and send it. The concerned department will process it and an SMS will go to the citizen after a few days saying your document is ready and you can go to the centre. It will be digitally signed and handed over to him." 
 
In addition to this, the state is looking to cover 1,200 services in the next stage of this project. "For this, we have to sit with the departments, understand their back-end processes and figure out how best we can onboard all of these 1,200 services that we have listed," he added.

New Delhi, May 27 () Super 30 coaching fame Anand Kumar will work with CSC e-governance Services India Ltd to help prepare students in rural areas for IIT-JEE examination for a fee of Re 1, the e-governance firm said on Wednesday. Noted mathematician Kumar will develop a course module online to train students from weak financial backgrounds for the Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE). "The thrust would be on developing inquisitiveness which is very important for science and mathematics education. With the help of CSC, an IIT- JEE entrance exam module will be prepared which will be made available to students in rural India in just Re 1," Kumar said during his online interaction with rural students through common service centres. CSC e-Governance India Services manages around 3 lakh common service centres across the country that provide government services in rural area and small towns. Kumar said he helps students from economically backward sections preparing for IIT JEE by providing study materials and lodging for a year and his mother prepares food for them. "With the help of CSC, we will prepare online study material for children living in rural areas who cannot afford expensive coaching. It would guide students through innovative teaching modules to develop their interest in Mathematics and Science subjects at an early age," he said. New Delhi, Jan 18 () Telecom and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday asked National Informatics Centre to come up with a blockchain technology-based solution to improve quality of government schools.
The minister said that he also wants both the Centre and states to open up their doors for start-ups working under defined norms. 
"I am very keen how we can leverage blockchain in primary education. In fact today I am going to give you a task NIC team. Can you think of a good application of blockchain technology for improving the quality of government schools all over the country. Public schools are good, private schools are good but my take would be that we shall be able to leverage technology when transformational change takes place," Prasad said. 
The minister was speaking on the occasion of inauguration of a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Blockchain Technology set up by NIC in Bengaluru with to provide blockchain as a service.
Blockchain technology is upcoming and niche technology and adoption of the same in sectors such as health, finance, agriculture and various other sectors would aid the government in implementing various programmes and provide trust and immutability to the assets.
The minister asked the NIC to work on mechanism to involve start-ups also in its technology space.
"India is home to close 26,000 start-ups. Out of which 9,000 are tech start up. NIC can become a big patron of start-up movement. I always recommend even the centre and state governments must open doors for induction of start-up moment obviously under defined norms and condition to maintain transparency," Prasad said. 
He said that blockchain technology will open up new frontiers in the area of governance, treasury management, excise operations etc and he would like to see its use in the field of agriculture, health, primary education etc. 
The CoE has developed Blockchain based Proof of Concepts (PoCs) for select government use cases to understand potential benefits provided by this emerging technology. 
According to NIC, new and previously unforeseen applications of Blockchain in the Government are expected to enhance transparency, traceability and trust in e-governance systems.
The CoE on blockchain will facilitate the government departments in building proof of concepts for use of Blockchain technology in different dimensions of governance leading to large scale deployment of some such applications, an NIC statement said. PRS MR

Following the inauguration of a National Data Centre (NDC) in Bhubaneswar this May, Prasad announced the government’s plans of establishing the largest National Data Centre in Bhopal. Prasad also announced that the NDC will have a capacity of five lakh servers. Throwing in some more announcements at the occasion, the minister mentioned that the rural BPO promotion scheme will be increased to 1 lakh seats from the current 48,000. So, what will the National Data Centre do? A National Data Centre’s primary aim is to provide ‘the citizens with online services and the e-Governance projects launched by the government’, according to the<a href="https://datacentres.nic.in/"> official website</a> of <keyword id="6373306" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-informatics-centre">National Informatics Centre</keyword> (NIC), the organisation under the government’s IT Department that is responsible for the establishment of the NDCs. As <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> becomes the largest data consumer, there is a pressing need to increase data storage for apps and websites of these services. And this is exactly what the new NDC will cater to. However, this is not the first in the country, there are four other NDCs in Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad and Pune; but this is expected to be the largest. NIC has announced that the Madhya Pradesh Government has already made the land available for the project and the centre should come up within the next two years. Rural BPO promotion scheme Prasad, who wants to make India the ‘hub for BPO movement’, said that the expansion of the rural BPO promotion scheme would bring about several benefits. The scheme is aimed at increasing employment in India, both directly and indirectly - employment related to creating the BPOs and working for them once they are created. An added perk would be finding this sort of employment near your home, in small towns. Currently, people from small towns have to relocate to bigger cities to work in these BPOs. With this being the election year, the government is also making sure it makes the right statements about policies that have already been implemented. In his speech, Prasad mentioned that Aadhar, world’s largest biometric identification with 121 crore unique IDs, is already benefiting the public. According to the minister, Aadhar has helped in the direct benefit transfer of <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/india-s-largest-national-data-centre-to-come-up-in-bhopal-118061900020_1.html">₹4 trillion</a> to the poor. Furthermore, ₹900 billion have been saved by removing the fictitious beneficiaries from this list, said Prasad. The government is now aiming at making the Aadhar more “robust” along with the expansion of other digital services like BHIM App, DigiLocker and <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/info-tech/govt-plans-largest-data-centre-in-bhopal/article24195005.ece">eSign</a>.

India’s largest National Data Centre to be established in Bhopal

After setting an example with its e-mandi concept, now the south Indian state of Karnataka will be setting another landmark. The central government has now asked Karnataka to share details of state’s mobile-governance platform which integrates 4,187 services, both government and private, into one app, <keyword id="2652294" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mobile-One">Mobile-One</keyword>. 
 As per an Economic Times report, the <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> government is planning to facilitate other states with a similar technology and scale it to the national level. 
 The mobile app, which is growing at a rate of 10% every month and has generated business worth Rs 5 crore, is just seven months old and was launched by President <keyword id="6359124" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pranab-Mukherjee">Pranab Mukherjee</keyword>. <keyword id="67441" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="karnataka-chief-minister">Karnataka Chief Minister</keyword>, who is not so tech-savvy made it a pet-project and the app, so far, has got 1.25 crore hits and 1.5 lakh downloads. 
 Rathan U Kelkhar, CEO of the Centre for e-governance, Karnataka, told ET, "We got a letter of appreciation from the Union IT and <keyword id="46149" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Telecom-minister">Telecom minister</keyword> Ravishankar Prasad. A team from the Centre came down to see how we are implementing it. It is a one-of-a-kind App and we are making it as vibrant as possible." 
 
Under the umbrella of Digital India, PM Modi’s prime focus is mobile apps. He plans to reach out to folks of his nation through mobile devices so that they would be aware of the services and schemes government is bringing in for them. 
 
National e-Governance Division President and CEO Anoop Kumar Agarwal has said that the issue was of scaling it up nationally was "under examination right now. But this is a strong concept and it will happen across the states in near future." 
 Not just this, but the <keyword id="503104" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka-State-Government">Karnataka state government</keyword> also takes feedback from its users and considers expert advices. IIT-B (International Institute of Information and Technology, Bangalore) and IAMAI (Internet and Mobile Association of India) have been providing their valuable advices to the state on how they can provide a better user experience.

Karnataka government sets yet another example-access 4187 services on single App!

New Delhi, Apr 1 () E-governance services provider CSC SPV has sought permission to allow all common service centres to offer banking and essential services electronically during the lockdown to contain coronavirus spread, a top official said on Wednesday. Around 22,000 common service centres registered as banking correspondent are delivering their services and rest of the centres are operating in accordance to the permission given by state and local authorities, CSC e-Governance Services India Limited CEO Dinesh Tyagi told . "We have written to the minister (Ravi Shankar Prasad) for allowing all our CSCs to provide essential services that can be provided electronically," Tyagi said. There are over 2.7 lakh CSCs operational across the country. CSCs provide financial, telemedicine, education, e-commerce, gas booking services etc. "Jharkhand government has allowed the operation of all CSCs. Haryana government has given partial permission," Tyagi said. The Haryana government has also roped in CSC for delivering telemedicine services for livestock treatment. "CSCs provide Aadhaar enabled payment services (AEPS) that can be used by people in the rural area for withdrawing cash. We have also written to banks to help village level entrepreneurs by providing them with some cash for AEPS," Tyagi said.He said that allowing this service can be instrumental in supporting government's recent announcement transfer direct cash benefit transfer through to farmers, Jan Dhan account holders and other labourers. All these people can withdraw amount without overcrowding the bank branches at their nearest CSCs. PRS MR

CSC seeks exemption to deliver essential e-services

New Delhi, Mar 25 () The Centre on Wednesday asked state governments to resolve immediately the problems being faced by the e-commerce sector in delivering essential goods amid lockdown across the country to prevent the spread of coronavirus. E-commerce and home delivery come under essential services and are exempt from the lockdown rules. "However, there are reports of disruptions faced by e-commerce players. We have taken up with the state governments and local administration. Things will fall in place," Consumer Affairs Secretary Pawan Agarwal told . The e-commerce players like Big Basket have shared specific problems that the state governments have been asked to address immediately, he said and emphasised that the government's focus is on home delivery in the current situation. The secretary also mentioned that the government is closely monitoring any disruption faced in the movement of essential supplies during the period of lockdown. The home ministry has set up a control room for monitoring in which officials from the consumer affairs ministry are also present, he added. The delivery of essential goods via platforms such as Flipkart, Amazon, Grofers and Big Basket have been affected as the police is enforcing the lockdown rules in many parts of the country. Even food delivery firms are facing similar challenges. The Centre has imposed nationwide lockdown till April 14 in order to prevent spread of coronavirus. LUX HRS

Centre asks states to resolve immediately e-tailers' problems in delivering essential items

New Delhi, Dec 24 () The deadline to file a response to an income-tax department notice under the e-assessment system has been extended upto January 10 next year, the CBDT said in an order issued on Tuesday.
 "With a view to provide relief to the taxpayers and tax professionals and to facilitate the compliance with respect to e-assessment proceedings under e-assessment scheme, 2019, the time limit for filing of response to notices under section 142(1) of the Income-Tax Act issued up to December 24, 2019 by the National e-Assessment Centre is extended up to January 10, 2020 or time given in such notices, whichever is later," the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said.
 The CBDT frames policy for the I-T department.
 E-assessment of income tax proceedings was launched by the government on October 8. 
 An individual or a taxpayer is not required to appear either personally or through authorised representative before an income-tax authority in connection with any proceeding under the e-assessment scheme that entails reply to a notice issued by the taxman.

Let us bring the world into our mobile phones," Modi tweeted at the 18th national conference on <keyword id="6391682" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="e-governance">e-governance</keyword>. His series of tweets were shown live on a big screen. 
 The Prime Minister asserted that e-governance is an important part of the '<keyword id="1929810" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Digital-India">Digital India</keyword>' campaign. He also emphasised on smart utilisation of modern technology for the country’s development. 
 
"While we look at e-governance, let us think about 'mobile first' and thus give importance to m-governance (mobile governance)," said Modi. 
 
“The Centre is committed to realising the dream of Digital India, with a vision to make India a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy," he added in another tweet. 
 
"I am also certain that technology and e-governance will make processes simpler and remove several obstacles slowing the pace of work and progress," he said.

Modi Exhorts IT Experts To Explore Ways To Realise ‘Digital India’ Dream

New Delhi, The Centre on Tuesday announced sale of an additional 20 lakh tonnes of wheat in the open market to further bring down the retail prices of wheat and wheat flour (atta) and asked flour millers to cut rates with softening in wholesale price of grain. On January 25, the Centre had announced sale of 30 lakh tonnes of wheat in the open market from its buffer stock to check rise in prices of wheat and wheat flour (atta). According to an official statement, the government has decided that state-owned Food Corporation of India (FCI) will offload an additional quantity of 20 lakh tonnes of wheat in open market under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS). The stocks will be sold through e-auction to flour mills/private traders/bulk buyers/manufactures of wheat products. The proposal to sell stocks in the open market was taken by a group of ministers, sources said. "So far, 50 lakh tonnes (30+20 lakh tonnes) of wheat have been decided to be offloaded under the OMSS. The reduction in reserve price along with additional offloading of 20 lakh tonnes of wheat will collectively help in reducing market price of wheat and wheat products for consumers," the statement said. Union Food Secretary Sanjeev Chopra held a video conference meeting with Food Corporation of India (FCI) and the representatives of flour millers/associations/ federations/atta, suji product manufacturers on to review the lifting of stocks in the second round of e-auction held recently. Flour millers were advised to bring down the prices of atta and other products in line with the reduction in market prices of wheat, the statement said. After announcement of the OMSS policy, the food ministry said that prices of wheat and atta have come down but still inflation figure for January 2023 was at 3 months high of 6.52 per cent. As per the government data, the average prices of wheat across major cities stood at Rs 33.15 per kilogram on Monday, while the average prices of atta (wheat flour) stood at Rs 37.63 per kg. Last month, the government announced plans to sell 30 lakh tonnes of wheat in the open market from its buffer stock under the OMSS. Out of the 30 lakh tonnes, the FCI is selling 25 lakh tonnes to bulk consumers like flour millers through e-auction and 2 lakh tonnes to states/Union Territories. Three lakh tonnes of wheat are being provided to institutions and state-PSUs at a concession for converting wheat into wheat flour. In the two rounds of e-auctions for bulk consumers, nearly 13 lakh tonnes wheat have been sold. FCI will offer 11.72 lakh tonnes of wheat during the third e-auction to be held on February 22. Last week, the ministry reduced reserve price of fair and average (FAQ) quality wheat to Rs 2,150 per quintal, while for Under Relaxed Specifications (URS) wheat to Rs 2,125 per quintal. These new reserve prices are applicable from the third sale of wheat through e-auction. Moreover, the rate of wheat has been reduced to Rs 21.50 per kg for sale to NCCF/NAFED/ Kendriya Bhandar/state government cooperatives/federations as well as community kitchen /charitable/NGO etc. for converting wheat into atta and then selling to consumers at Rs 27.50 per kg. To control price, the Centre had banned wheat exports in May last year. India's wheat production fell to 107.74 million tonnes in the 2021-22 crop year (July-June) from 109.59 million tonnes in the previous year due to heat waves in a few growing states. The procurement fell sharply to 19 million tonnes this year from around 43 million tonnes last year. Wheat production is estimated to rise at 112.18 million tonnes in the current 2022-23 crop year on higher acreage and better yield. However, the rise in temperature during this month in key producing states has again become a concern for the farm scientist and policy makers. On Monday, the government formed a committee to monitor the situation arising out of any unusual rise in temperature and its impact on the wheat crop and issue necessary advisories to the farming community to save the crop. The move comes as some parts of the country have started witnessing above-normal temperatures. In the first week of February, the maximum temperature in major wheat growing areas, barring Madhya Pradesh, remained higher than the average of the last seven years, as per the National Crop Forecast Centre (NCFC).
