New Delhi, Two hundred and sixty-one people have been given categorized security by <keyword id="1387403" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-central-government">the central government</keyword>, as per a reply to an RTI query. As per the information provided by <keyword id="69522" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-home-affairs">Ministry of Home Affairs</keyword> (MHA) to Lucknow based <keyword id="2072337" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="activist-Nutan-Thakur">activist Nutan Thakur</keyword>, a total of 261 persons have been provided categorized security by the Central Government. Nutan Thakur had sought information about persons who have been provided various security covers (like X, Y, Z, Z-plus etc) by the Central Government. This comes after Bollywood actress <keyword id="2201" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kangana-Ranaut">Kangana Ranaut</keyword> was granted Y category security when she visited Mumbai amid a spat with the ruling Shiv Sena alliance in Maharashtra. R Chaturvedi, Advisor VIP Security, MHA said that as on December 3, 30 persons have been given Z-plus, 47 have been given Z, 66 have been given Y-plus, 59 have been given Y and 59 persons have been given X category security. As per the RTI query, IS-I Division, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India had provided the number of protectees, as on date, in various security categories, as provided by the Central Government, through its letter dated July 2018 signed by SCL Das, JS (IS-I) and FAA. While Indian agencies are dependent on manpower to conduct security checks at the airports, CISF aims to use new technologies that can help in combating the threat to the aviation sector. Additionally, the CISF also hopes it will be able to detect the smuggling of drugs, golds, and explosives smuggled through unforseen methods. And, why wouldn’t it? Plane tickets were essentially cheaper than train tickets. But, all good times must come to an end. The Airports Authority of <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> (AAI) has put in a demand for a <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/be-ready-to-shell-out-more-for-airfares-as-govt-mulls-security-fee-hike-118071900049_1.html">hike in passenger service fees</a> after the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) complained over unpaid dues from airport operators. How are the prices going to increase? As per the civil aviation ministry, they’re considering a marginal increase in the security charge. Their justification is that since there’s been an exponential growth in passengers, the current fees don’t fully cover the cost of security management. Currently, the charge is of ₹130 and hasn’t undergone any change in 10 years. The <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Companies/uOFJTD5lH2xxjlQYgAMsyM/Flight-tickets-may-get-costlier-as-govt-plans-hike-in-passen.html">proposal</a> will hike it to ₹225. It was argued that since security is a sovereign issue, ideally the government should provide the amount from its <keyword id="150481" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Consolidated-Fund">consolidated fund</keyword>. But, at the finance ministry’s suggestion, that burden will now be shifted onto the passengers against the home ministry’s prerogative that such a move would increase prices. What’s the link between airport operators and the CISF? The security charges that are collected from the passengers are dropped into an escrow account, which then sends the money to the CISF. While they claim that there’s been a delay in payments, the airport operators state that the money just isn’t there to make the payments. The deficit amount currently is almost ₹8 billion. There’s a need for more security All over India, there are 98 airports of which only 59 fall under the CISF. The point of contention lies in the fact that 26 of those come under the ‘<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/20-hypersensitive-airports-lack-counterterror-plans-covering-their-approach-roads-Parliamentary-panel/articleshow/50410301.cms">hyper-sensitive</a>’ category. The increase in the flow of passengers, thus, leads to an increase for security at these airports, especially in places like <keyword id="66" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword> and Mumbai. Delhi has been pressed for payments by the CISF since, and just for that one airport, the deficit is of around ₹600 crores. Considering that the whole point of the UDAN scheme was to increase regional connectivity by allowing the 'aam aadmi' to fly at reasonable prices, an increase in price doesn't align with that objective.

As demand for air travel in India increases, so may the prices

 "This rule (on paper boarding pass) is not relevant today because airports have computers and the passes are scanned anyway and that gives a sense on the number of people who have boarded the flight," the official told <keyword id="77091" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Economic-Times">The Economic Times</keyword>. "Tearing a part of the boarding pass is not required anymore. The authorities have agreed and soon the requirement will be withdrawn." <keyword id="114800" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajiv-Gandhi-International-airport">Rajiv Gandhi International Airport</keyword> in Hyderabad already has the process of e-boarding pass and the other airports may take it as example. Also there would be no need to get handbag tags for cabin luggage, which is till date mandatory. The post quickly caught the attention of social media users and prompted a notable response from the airline. Singh voiced his frustration with the ‘<keyword id="22847048" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cute-fee" source="keywords">Cute Fee</keyword>,’ along with other charges like the ‘User Development Fee’ and ‘Aviation Security Fee,’ which he found unclear and seemingly arbitrary. “Dear IndiGo, what is this ‘Cute Fee’? Mumbai Police on Thursday arrested Rakesh Kumar Mishra (30) from Darbhanga in Bihar for allegedly making calls to Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital here in the last two days, threatening to blow up the hospital and kill Ambani, his wife Nita and sons Akash and Anant. The caller had also threatened to blow up Antilia, the famous south Mumbai residence of the Ambani family on Altamount Road in South Mumbai . According of the city police, this is the second instance of Ambani family getting threats on the hospital landline number. On August 15 this year, the hospital had received at least nine calls threatening the Reliance Industries chairman and his family members, said an official. <keyword id="15181308" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bishnu-vidu-bhoumik" source="Orion">Bishnu Vidu Bhoumik</keyword> (56) was arrested in connection with the calls. In November 2021, Mumbai Police increased the security outside Antilia following a tip given by a taxi driver about a possible threat, but investigation found there was no such threat. But an incident involving threat to the Ambani family earlier that year made national headlines and shook the state government. On February 25, 2021, an explosive-laden SUV was found parked on Carmichael Road in South Mumbai, near the Ambani residence. Police recovered a printed threat note inside along with gelatin sticks. (Eds: Adding inputs) New Delhi, May 21 () A 50-year-old Assistant Sub-Inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force has succumbed to novel coronavirus, officials said on Thursday. This is the second death linked to the pandemic in the country's largest paramilitary force, which has 3.25 lakh personnel, and the seventh among the five paramilitary or Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) of the CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP and SSB. The CRPF also reported nine fresh positive cases on Thursday and its active cases now stand at 121. A CRPF spokesperson said ASI Panchdev Ram breathed his last on Wednesday at the Lady Hardinge Medical College in Delhi. The ASI, who hailed from Bihar, was suffering from liver cancer and he was infected by novel coronavirus some time back, they said, adding that he belonged to the 84th battalion of the force based in Jammu. Earlier, a 55-year-old sub-inspector of the 31st battalion of the force had succumbed to COVID-19. The CAPFs have reported seven COVID-19 deaths, with maximum three in the Central Industrial Security Force and two each in the CRPF and the Border Security Force. These forces tasked with rendering a variety of internal security duties under the command of the Union Home Ministry now have more recoveries than active COVID-19 cases among them. As per data accessed by , at least 569 CAPF personnel have recovered from the disease, while the number of active cases stands at 447. The CRPF has 121 active cases followed by 119 in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, 90 in the Central Industrial Security Force, 87 in the BSF and 30 in the Sashastra Seema Bal. Fourteen fresh cases have also been reported over the last 24 hours in these uniformed organisations. The highest recovery numbers at present among the CAPFs are in the Border Security Force at 274, followed by 212 in the CRPF and ITBP has reported 67 recoveries. New Delhi, Jun 21 () A 41-year-old Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel died of COVID-19 on Sunday, taking the total number of fatalities in the force from the pandemic to six, officials said. This is the 18th death from the pandemic among the five central paramilitary forces of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Officials said constable Jitender Kumar died at the RML Hospital here after he was admitted with fever and difficulty in breathing on June 10. The jawan had contracted the coronavirus infection and was deployed for law and order duties in Delhi, a senior CISF officer said. He hailed from Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh and was posted with the 8th reserve battalion of the force in Jaipur, he said. "The Director General CISF and all ranks are deeply saddened on the tragic loss of our corona warrior constable Jitender Kumar of CISF who laid his life at the altar of duty battling COVID-19 infection. "We express heartfelt condolences to the grief stricken family members," the force said in a message. This is the sixth death from coronavirus in the about 1.62 lakh personnel strong force, the national civil aviation security force guarding over 60 airports apart from other vital infrastructure. Twenty-four fresh cases were reported in the CISF since Saturday, which has a total 255 active COVID-19 cases while 347 personnel have recovered till now. The maximum cases in the force have been reported from a unit that guard the Madras High Court (39), Delhi airport (28), Ghaziabad-based reserve battalion (25), Mumbai airport and Delhi Metro (17 each), Kolkata Port Trust (16) and Reliance Corporate Park, Navi Mumbai (7) among others. The CRPF has suffered six casualties, BSF three, SSB two and one death has taken place in the ITBP till now. These central forces, with a combined strength of about 10 lakh personnel, render a variety of security duties, law and order management, border guarding, counter-insurgency and counter-terrorist operations and disaster rescue and relief under the command of the Union home ministry. CISF jawan succumbs to COVID-19; 18th death among paramilitary forces

Mumbai, May 19 () Five companies of the Central Armed Police Forces have reached Mumbai to help the city police during the fourth phase of the COVID-19 lockdown, an official said on Tuesday. Maharashtra received nine companies from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) including four from the Rapid Action Force, two from the Central Reserve Police Force and three from the Central Industrial Security Force. The Mumbai police has got the assistance of five companies, which will be deployed at severely affected areas such as Dharavi in central Mumbai as per requirement, the official said. Over 1,100 police personnel have contracted COVID-19, of which 12, including an officer, have succumbed to the infection in the state so far.
