The factory-built robotic canines can not only detect explosives but also scan the luggage of passengers using an X-Ray feature in their eyes<a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/defence/robotic-canines-may-replace-cisf-dogs-at-airports/articleshow/66931865.cms">,said the report </a>citing an official. The idea of using the robotic canines was introduced when CISF DG Rajesh Ranjan and additional DG M A Ganapathy attended the Global Aviation Security Symposium in Canada earlier this week. While Indian agencies are dependent on manpower to conduct security checks at the airports, CISF aims to use new technologies that can help in combating the threat to the aviation sector. Additionally, the CISF also hopes it will be able to detect the smuggling of drugs, golds, and explosives smuggled through unforseen methods. Most of the developed countries like the US, UK, Japan and Canada make use of robots for several uses.

<ul><li>The <keyword id="54875" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airports-Authority-of-India">Airports Authority of India</keyword> (AAI) has submitted a request to increase passenger service charges, specifically the security fees.</li><li>This will, in turn, lead to an increase in the prices of flight tickets. </li><li>The demand had been put in to recover the <keyword id="6420764" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="deficit">deficit</keyword> of around ₹8 billion owed to the <keyword id="100364" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Industrial-Security-Force">Central Industrial Security Force</keyword> (CISF) by airport operators. </li></ul> When the <keyword id="6366656" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="udan">UDAN</keyword> scheme came into existence, airfares took a dive and the demand for air travel exploded. And, why wouldn’t it? Plane tickets were essentially cheaper than train tickets. But, all good times must come to an end. The Airports Authority of <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> (AAI) has put in a demand for a <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/be-ready-to-shell-out-more-for-airfares-as-govt-mulls-security-fee-hike-118071900049_1.html">hike in passenger service fees</a> after the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) complained over unpaid dues from airport operators. How are the prices going to increase? As per the civil aviation ministry, they’re considering a marginal increase in the security charge. Their justification is that since there’s been an exponential growth in passengers, the current fees don’t fully cover the cost of security management. Currently, the charge is of ₹130 and hasn’t undergone any change in 10 years. The <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Companies/uOFJTD5lH2xxjlQYgAMsyM/Flight-tickets-may-get-costlier-as-govt-plans-hike-in-passen.html">proposal</a> will hike it to ₹225. It was argued that since security is a sovereign issue, ideally the government should provide the amount from its <keyword id="150481" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Consolidated-Fund">consolidated fund</keyword>. But, at the finance ministry’s suggestion, that burden will now be shifted onto the passengers against the home ministry’s prerogative that such a move would increase prices. What’s the link between airport operators and the CISF? The security charges that are collected from the passengers are dropped into an escrow account, which then sends the money to the CISF. While they claim that there’s been a delay in payments, the airport operators state that the money just isn’t there to make the payments. The deficit amount currently is almost ₹8 billion. There’s a need for more security All over India, there are 98 airports of which only 59 fall under the CISF. The point of contention lies in the fact that 26 of those come under the ‘<a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/20-hypersensitive-airports-lack-counterterror-plans-covering-their-approach-roads-Parliamentary-panel/articleshow/50410301.cms">hyper-sensitive</a>’ category. The increase in the flow of passengers, thus, leads to an increase for security at these airports, especially in places like <keyword id="66" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi">Delhi</keyword> and Mumbai. Delhi has been pressed for payments by the CISF since, and just for that one airport, the deficit is of around ₹600 crores. Considering that the whole point of the UDAN scheme was to increase regional connectivity by allowing the 'aam aadmi' to fly at reasonable prices, an increase in price doesn't align with that objective.

New Delhi, Mar 5 () The civil aviation ministry on Thursday said the expenditure incurred for CISF security at various airports stood at Rs 1,632.85 crore up to January in the current fiscal. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is deployed at 62 airports, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri told the Lok Sabha on Thursday. In the current fiscal up to January, the expenditure incurred for deploying CISF at various airports stood at Rs 1,632.85 crore, he said in a written reply. He also said an amount of Rs 1,964.32 crore has been collected as Aviation Security Fee (ASF) up to January in the current financial year.ASF is levied on each embarking passenger at airports but there are also exemptions."Currently, ASF is collected in a central pool and the proceeds are used to meet CISF expenditure at all airports," Puri said. New Delhi, Apr 1 () State-owned KIOCL on Wednesday said it will contribute Rs 10 crore towards the PM CARES Fund to fight the coronavirus pandemic in India. The employees of the PSU have also offered one day's salary towards the fund, according to M V Subba Rao, Chairman and Managing Director of the company. "Our contribution to fight the pandemic is Rs 10.1 crore. The aid would be extended to the PM CARES Fund to contain COVID-19 virus outbreak in our country," he said. Most of the staff is working from home and only necessary operations are on at the unit, he said adding that those on duty including the Central Industrial Security Force staff have been provided with proper safety equipment and the premises are being sanitised on a regular basis. Besides, food packets, hygienic products such as masks, hand sanitisers and other medical facilities are being provided to the communities living near the KIOCL's unit in Karnataka. New Delhi, Feb 12 () The CISF seized Rs 45 lakh worth of foreign currency hidden in cooked meat pieces, peanuts and biscuit packets from a passenger at the Delhi airport, officials said on Wednesday.The unique modus operandi of currency smuggling came to light on Tuesday evening when security personnel intercepted Murad Ali on the basis of his "suspicious" behaviour when he reached Terminal-3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport to board an Air India flight to Dubai."On physical checking of the passengers' baggage, high volume of foreign currencies were found concealed in cooked mutton pieces, peanuts, biscuit packets and other eatables," CISF spokesperson Assistant Inspector General Hemendra Singh said."This is a unique and peculiar way of concealing foreign currency for smuggling," Singh said.A video of the interception provided by the force showed the security personnel cracking peanuts, unzipping sealed biscuit packets and digging into oily meat pieces to extract an assortment of Saudi Riyal, Qatari Riyal, Kuwaiti Dinar, Omani Riyal and Euro rolled and wrapped neatly inside.The estimated worth of this seized cache is Rs 45 lakh and the passenger and the currencies have been handed over to Customs authorities for investigation, the CISF spokesperson said.The Central Industrial Security Force guards the Delhi airport.
