They logged onto the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/porsche-cayenne-coupe-turbo-gts-911-718-spyder-ranked-2020-7">Porsche</a> forums and saw they weren't alone."My dealer won't sell me a [2014 <keyword id="-211" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Porsche-911">Porsche 911</keyword> Carrera 4S] with Sport Chrono due to a stop-sale, which applies to a ton of cars Porsche makes," they wrote in an email to Insider. "There's speculation all over Rennlist but nobody knows for sure what's going on, other than it's been going on for months."Insider reached out to the dealership for confirmation of the failed transaction, but has yet to hear back.But indeed, a November thread on Porsche enthusiast online forum Rennlist read: "<a href="https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1222745-stop-sale-campaign-on-911-with-sport-chrono.html">Stop Sale Campaign on 911 with Sport Chrono?</a>" "I have had my 2016 [Carrera] 4 GTS [Cabriolet] at my local dealer for a consignment sale," user Teambell wrote. "Today I was told they have to take it off the market as a corporate stop sale campaign related to the Sport Chrono package. Does anyone know any details about it?"Insider reached out to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which typically handles sales and recalls. The agency declined to comment on the issue. But a Porsche spokesperson did, confirming that there is indeed a stop-sale and has been one since November 2020. It applies to "certain older vehicles in our dealer partner's inventory equipped with the ... Sport Chrono Package," the spokesperson told Insider in an email.The Sport Chrono Package was an option you could get on your Porsche that let you pick different electronic driving modes. "Normal" was for everyday driving, "Sport" was designed for the twistier roads, and "Sport Plus" was meant for extreme driving, as you would do on a racetrack.But, as Porsche recently discovered during its routine review, there was a slight hiccup in the plan. When driven in "Sport Plus" mode, certain Sport Chrono Package-equipped cars built within a specific time frame emitted more nitrogen oxide than permitted."Porsche proactively informed authorities and continues to work to review the issue," the spokesperson said. The tricky part, though, is determining which of those cars are affected, as not every car listed was fitted with the often optional Sport Chrono Package.And even if they were fitted with the package, "not every model line we've tested is affected," the spokesperson said. "So, it really goes down to us testing every model derivative. We're being cautious.""I can understand why some of your readers would be concerned," they went on. "To be clear, our dealer partners are buying all used Porsche cars as they usually would, and the cars in customers' possession remains safe to drive - what the dealers have paused is selling the specific cars in their inventory affected by this until the software on these cars can be updated."Porsche is working on a software update that it will apply to the cars before they are for sale again. Eventually, the automaker will also perform the fix for customer vehicles as necessary.The spokesperson did not provide a timeline for when Porsche expects the update to be completed and carried out, but assured current owners this wasn't a safety issue for them."The cars affected by this - all of which were developed and sold years ago - remain safe to drive," they said. "This does not affect new vehicles."

Porsche orders stop-sale on certain models for performance option causing them to create excess emissions

Leading <keyword id="6356028" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sports">sports</keyword> car manufacturer <keyword id="45673" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Porsche">Porsche</keyword>, a part of the <keyword id="166267" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Volkswagen-Group">Volkswagen group</keyword>, has launched its much-awaited compact SUV <keyword id="2100791" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Macan">Macan</keyword> in India. The car has been launched in two different variants. Macan S Diesel is available at a price of Rs 1 crore and Macan Turbo petrol will retail at Rs 1.11 crore, both ex-showroom Delhi. 
	 

	Macan has turned out to be a very popular SUV. The car is fully sold out globally and in India, the compact SUV has been fully booked for 2014.
 Despite being a compact SUV, like any of its <keyword id="660753" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sports-cars">sports cars</keyword>, the Macan Turbo can hit from 0 to 100 in about 4.8 seconds and the <keyword id="2436163" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Macan-S-Diesel">Macan S Diesel</keyword> in 6.1 seconds. Porsche has offered air suspension system with ride height adjustment, fully variable all-wheel drive, lighting package, bi-xenon headlamps, three-zone climate control and electronically operated tailgate as standard features. <keyword id="349012" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Anil-Reddi">Anil Reddi</keyword>, director, Porsche India said, the Macan compact SUV, will help the German automobile manufacturer reach out to new customer segments in India. It will lure buyers of other luxury car brands into the Porsche fold. 

	"With the launch of the Macan, we intend to expand this further, but we don't want lose out on the exclusivity that Porsche guarantees. We are not in the pursuit of volumes and as a policy, we will always sell one car less than what the market demands," he asserted.
 In India, Porsche has been present for over a decade - first as an importer and later through the <keyword id="1968081" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="National-Sales-Company">National Sales Company</keyword>. About 1,500 to 2,000 Porsche are running on the Indian roads. Interestingly, <keyword id="624" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Women">women</keyword> are emerging as a new customer segment for Macan. 

	Porsche is also revamping its dealer network in the country which will be spread across at 8 different cities by the end of 2014. Porsche has showroom spread across Mumbai, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and the one in Kolkata, will be shortly inaugurated.
 Following the Macan, Porsche will launch the <keyword id="2436160" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="911-Targa">911 Targa</keyword>, <keyword id="2436158" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Boxster-GTS">Boxster GTS</keyword> and the <keyword id="2436159" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Cayman-GTS">Cayman GTS</keyword> in the next six months. Porsche Launches Compact SUV Macan In India At Rs 1 Crore

If you want two doors and Porsche goodness, the argument went, you buy a 911. End of discussion.Porsche didn't listen to those folks and has been rewarded with a ravishing success in the Boxster. So I dropped the top - a quick, simple, mechanized operation - broke out my driving gloves and a warm hat and scarf, and hit the road. My critical question: Is the Boxster really necessary? Or is the 911, the ur-Porsche, in production since the early 1960s, good enough?Big initial difference between our Boxster S and GTS testers: Ben sampled the "old-fashioned six-speed manual" transmission, as he put it - the enthusiast's choice - while I was issued the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) manumatic. These days, I don't have a preference for stickshifts over automatic, unless the vehicle is rather barebones, such as Mazda Miata MX-5. On balance, the GTS was plenty peppy minus the clutch, and honestly less demanding day-to-day (MPGs are reasonable, at 20 city/26 highway/22 combined).<h2>Not like driving a 911</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">PorscheThe Boxster with its sibling, the Cayman.</div></div></div>Let's just cut to the chase and render a verdict on what it's like to drive this little beast. Compared to the 911, it's ... weird. The Boxster (and its sister, the Cayman) are ridiculously composed high-performance automobiles. Like all-wheel-drive versions of the 911, they inspire a stupid level of confidence. Impeccable balance. Smooth, lagless power delivery, even as the four-cylinder supplanted a legendary six in 2017. I have no hesitation in declaring that apart from sacrificing the original roar of the engine and thereby undermining some of the Porsche ownership experience, the Boxster GTS cannot be ruffled, cannot be unsettled, cannot be made to see out-of-control in any way.The thing rockets to 60 mph in under five clicks of the second hand, grabbing dollops of its 309 pound-feet of torque during the dash. Tuck into a curve and the suspension takes care of the laws of physics and the steering is bliss. Punch the throttle on the exit as the transmission reads your mind and the wind lashes your skin and an involuntary smile spreads across your face. Do it again, and again, and again.But, the weird part. In my experience, a 911 shows you how to drive it. The platform, steadily improved over decades to contend with the engineering flaw of putting the engine over the rear wheels, anticipates your needs. It guides you. It's a sort of automotive guru. <h2>But also better than the 911 in many ways</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Matthew DeBord/BIThe 911 - my personal favorite Porsche.</div></div></div>But, like all great performance cars, the 911 harbors an unsettling demeanor beneath its more didactic aspects. It can get out of hand. The rear end will wiggle and slide. You need to turn yourself over to it, because you aren't 100% in charge.Not so with the Boxster. In my tester's black leather crib, sunshine pouring in, turbo whining away, I felt unfazed. What can't this glorious machine do? Is there any way for me to detect a lack of bond between man and motor? Does this Porsche really want me to be the boss?Certainly not where the price is concerned. The biggest extra expense in my Boxster GTS was the PDK transmission, at $3,750. But beyond that, the costly options were cosmetic. So is the boost of $10,000 over the Boxster S worth it? For the meager uptick in horsepower?Well, no. But I guess if you're in this financial territory, it's academic. Porsche's ain't cheap. The Boxster S is magnificent. The GTS is slightly more magnificent. Maybe save the money and buy, I don't know, a Rolex to wear in your Porsche.The Boxster is cheaper than the 911, so take this advice: If you want a toy, a plaything, a two-seater that's so wonderful you'll never regret the purchase, get the Boxster GTS. If you want a nominal back seat and old-school Porsche compromises with the attendant gloriousness, go for the 911. It's only money. Porsche sold 225,000 cars worldwide last year - hitting the company's goal of selling 200,000 three year ahead of scheduling.Although Porsche is best known for its iconic sports cars, the company's two best-selling models are, in fact, the Cayenne and Macan crossover SUVs.And the company's financial success is built squarely upon the ability to move many examples of those two models.The two SUVs accounted for 68% of the company's worldwide sales last year. Of the 225,000 cars Porsche sold in 2015, 80,000 were Macans while 73,000 were Cayennes.The Cayenne has been a sales wonder for more than a decade. However, it was the arrival of the lower-priced Macan in March 2014 that launched the company into the SUV stratosphere. In a matter of months, the Macan went from mysterious new model to the best selling car in the Porsche's stable.However, an overreliance upon SUVs to carry the sales burden may prove to be a dangerous proposition for Porsche.In the early 1990s, Porsche's North American sales dwindled to as <a href="http://press.porsche.com/more_about/statistics/" target="_blank">low as 3,700 a year in 1993</a>. For comparison, Porsche sold a record 52,000 cars last year just in the US.Porsche's struggles in the early 1990s were due to a poor economy, out-of-date products (968 and 928 models were holdovers from the 1980s) and an over reliance upon a single vehicle - the iconic 911 sports car - for sales.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table click-to-enlarge"><div><div class="image"><a title_source="Porsche" title_caption="Porsche 911 Turbo." class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5694163fc08a80872f8b7bcc-960/2017_turbo_s_1.jpg"></a>PorschePorsche 911 Turbo.</div></div></div>Porsche learned from their mistakes and fixed their sales problems within a decade by completely revamping their lineup with the new and more diverse models. But its the Macan's arrival in 2014 that gave the company's its biggest hit.The Macan has been a dependable source of sales for Porsche. In fact, the company is becoming more and more reliant upon the model.Times are good right now for SUVs. They are the hottest thing going for everyone in the business. Sedan sales have weakened while formerly SUV-averse carmakers like Lamborghini and Maserati are trying to get one out on the showroom floor.A solid economy, a pro-SUV consumer base and cheap gas have helped fuel the surge in the demand for SUVs. The two Porsches most vulnerable in an economic downturn are the Panamera sedan and the Cayenne.The Panamera and Cayenne's vulnerabilities lie with their higher transaction costs and availability of cheaper alternatives. It an economic downturn, consumers look to downsize. For the Cayenne, it will be the Macan that will likely take many of its sales - similar looks, similar feel, slightly smaller, but considerably cheaper. The Panamera, too, will be victim to cheaper and smaller high performance sedans. Some of which will be in the form of the A7 from its VW Group stablemate Audi.The Cayman and Boxster are niche models. This time it'll be the Macan. But what about the 911? The 911 is an important vehicle. And its iconic status will help it retain much of its sales because if you want a 911, there's simply no substitute. But Porsche doesn't sell enough of the rear-engined sports cars to tip the scale.And there you have it again. Should the economy take a turn for the worse, Porsche will likely feel the pain once again. Porsche has done as much as they can in terms of its product lineup to prepare for any bad times that may lie in the future. When the economy is bad, people tend to buy smaller, cheaper and more fuel efficient. For Porsche, the Macan ticks the boxes about as well as any car they could conceivably build. Porsche is exclusively an upmarket, performance brand. They can't go downmarket in search of sales like Mercedes have with the CLA, Audi with the A3 and BMW with the 2-Series. And Porsche hasn't hinted that they will be going in that direction. As a result, the automaker seems to have backed itself into a bit of a corner. With its dependence on a single model to generate volume in an economic downturn, the company lives on a knife's edge. But for Porsche, the Macan is the most capable car the company has ever built to handle the tough times. Porsche is living dangerously by focusing on its SUVs

REVIEW: The 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S is more digitized than ever — but remains one of the best sports cars on the road

Last year's winner was the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. So we thought, as 2015 draws to a close, we'd take a quick look back.Feel free to applaud - and applaud some more! Ben Zhang and I debated the choice of the Corvette long and hard, and I demanded that he make the patriotic case for the Corvette at least a dozen times.Jaguars and Ferraris were swatted aside. Big, luxurious SUVs fell by the wayside. Even the Very Important Tesla Model S P85D, the fastest sedan in the world, couldn't beat out America's sports car.In the end, we both just loved the new Vette.The bottom line is that we wanted our first-ever Car of the Year to be an amazing machine when it comes to the nuts-and-bolts part of the story. It had to look cool and be a blast to drive. And because Business Insider is, after all, a business publication, we decided that the COTY should be significant for the auto industry - it couldn't be a niche product that appeals only to enthusiasts with millions to spend on exotic hypercars. But there's another factor that we considered. Fun.Porches and Ferraris and Lamborghinis and Jaguars are also lots of fun. But 2014 was the year that the new Corvette Stingray topped everybody with the fun factor. What a car!<h2>A whole new look</h2>The Corvette is an American icon, first introduced in 1953. But through the decades, it's never seemed as refined as the high-performance European cars to which it's habitually compared. The previous C6 generation was plenty powerful and thoroughly impressive, but its rough-around-the edges nature was a turnoff for some of the more discerning buyers.The new C7 generation (yes, there have been seven iterations of this car) starts at $54,000 and feels completely different - and brings back the Stingray name, not seen since the 1970s. (For the record, the final model year for the C6 started at about $50,000.)The interior is modern, fairly luxurious, and yet purposeful. You feel the lure of the racetrack in this Vette in the same way that you do in a Ferrari 458, but at a much, much lower price. Soft, high-quality leather blends with LCD instruments and controls. Heck, there's even 4G LTE connectivity embedded in the car. What was once seen by many as the dinosaur of the sports car world is now a rolling, wireless hotspot that can do 0-60 mph in less than four seconds. Amazing.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Chevrolet</div></div></div>But it's the exterior that's truly remarkable. From the angular front end to the square rear taillights, the car's designers decided to take a bold detour from the curvy Corvettes of the past, without completely doing away with what people expect a Vette to look like. The new car is a respectful homage to the Stingrays of the early 1960s, and the overall effect is absolutely stunning. This is the boldest Corvette...possibly ever.<h2>That engine!</h2>So the Stingray looks great, but it's what's under the hood that really steals the show.The 6.2-liter LT1 V8 supplies the driver with 460 horsepower, enabling 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of more than 180 mph. You just can't get this much speed for this nice a price anywhere else on planet Earth. In fact, the Corvette's equivalent cost-wise from Porsche - the 430 horsepower, 190-mph 911 GTS - starts at $115,000.That's two Corvettes. And a pleasant Caribbean vacation. But there's more. The Stingray's V8 serves up a yowling, malevolent soundtrack that occurs only in the 911's nightmares. It won't scare a Ferrari 458, which also contains (barely) a V8, but the symphony of combustion is of a different nature. The Ferrari's is a wild wail. The Stingray's is a full-throated growl. It's hard to get tired of this, particularly when working the engine through its auditory sweet spot in gears 2 through 5 (there are seven in total, but you don't entirely need them).Like we said: fun.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">General Motors</div></div></div>The terms "Corvette" and "prodigious speed" have been linked together for decades. Sadly, so have "Corvette" and "ancient suspension." Although the Stingray still features an old-school leaf-spring rear setup (you normally see this on delivery trucks, not sports cars), it's substantially improved for the C7 generation. The addition of a slew of electronic driving aids keeps the aforementioned 460 horsepower from making trouble. With the engine, upgraded suspension, and massive Brembo brakes working in joyful unison, the Stingray makes driving around corners just as exciting as tearing up the pavement in a straight line. This might be the first Corvette in living memory that you don't have to drive fast to enjoy.<h2>Symbol of a new General Motors</h2>The new Corvette, in many ways, is emblematic of the new General Motors and of a company looking to atone for past sins.2014 wasn't a great year for GM. A look back on Business Insider's 2014 Car of the Year - the Corvette Stingray

The first annual Business Insider Car of the Year is the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
Feel free to applaud - and applaud some more! Ben Zhang and I debated the choice long and hard, and I demanded that he make the patriotic case for the Corvette at least a dozen times.
Jaguars and Ferraris were swatted aside. Big, luxurious SUVs fell by the wayside. Even the Very Important Tesla Model S P85D, the fastest sedan in the world, couldn't beat out America's sports car.
In the end, we both just loved the new Vette.
The bottom line is that we wanted our first-ever Car of the Year to be an amazing machine when it comes to the nuts-and-bolts part of the story. It had to look cool and be a blast to drive. And because Business Insider is, after all, a business publication, we decided that the COTY should&#xa0;be significant for the auto industry - it couldn't be a&#xa0;niche product that appeals only to enthusiasts with millions to spend on exotic hypercars.&#xa0;
But there's another factor that we considered.&#xa0;
Fun.
Porches and Ferraris and Lamborghinis and Jaguars are also lots of fun. But 2014 was the year that the new&#xa0;Corvette Stingray topped everybody with the fun factor. 
What a car!
A WHOLE NEW LOOK
The Corvette is an American icon, first introduced in 1953. But through the decades, it's never seemed as refined as the high-performance European cars to which it's habitually compared. The previous C6 generation was plenty powerful and thoroughly impressive, but its rough-around-the edges nature was a turnoff for some of the more discerning buyers.
The new C7 generation (yes, there have been seven iterations of this car) starts at $54,000 and&#xa0;feels completely different - and brings back the Stingray name, not seen since the 1970s. (For the record,&#xa0;the final model year for the C6 started at about about $50,000.)
The interior is modern, fairly luxurious, and yet purposeful. You feel the lure of the racetrack in this Vette in the same way that you do in a Ferrari 458, but at a much, much lower price. Soft, high-quality leather blends with LCD instruments and controls. Heck, there's even 4G LTE connectivity embedded in the car. What was once seen by many as the dinosaur of the sports car world is now a rolling, wireless hotspot that can do 0-60 mph in less than four seconds. Amazing.

But it's the exterior that's truly remarkable. From the angular front end to the square rear taillights, the car's designers decided to take a bold detour from the curvy Corvettes of the past, without completely doing away with what people expect a Vette to look like. The new car is a respectful homage to the Stingrays of the early 1960s, and the overall effect is absolutely stunning. This is the boldest Corvette...possibly ever.
THAT ENGINE!
So the Stingray looks great, but it's what's under the hood that really steals the show.
The 6.2-liter LT1 V8 supplies the driver with&#xa0;460 horsepower, enabling 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of more than 180 mph. You just can't get this much speed for this nice a price anywhere else on planet Earth. In fact, the Corvette's equivalent cost-wise from Porsche - the 430 horsepower, 190-mph 911 GTS - starts at $115,000.
That's two Corvettes. And a pleasant Caribbean vacation. &#xa0;
But there's more. The Stingray's V8 serves up a yowling, malevolent soundtrack that occurs only in the 911's nightmares. It won't scare a Ferrari 458, which also contains (barely) a V8, but the symphony of combustion is of a different nature. The Ferrari's is a wild wail. The Stingray's is a full-throated growl. It's hard to get tired of this, particularly when working the engine through its auditory sweet spot in gears 2 through 5 (there are seven in total, but you don't entirely need them).
Like we said: fun.

The terms &#xa0;"Corvette" and "prodigious speed" have been linked together for decades. Sadly, so have "Corvette" and "ancient suspension." Although the Stingray still features an old-school leaf-spring rear setup (you normally see this on delivery trucks, not sports cars), it's substantially improved for the C7 generation. The addition of a slew of electronic driving aids keeps the aforementioned 460 horsepower from making trouble.&#xa0;
With the engine, upgraded suspension, and massive Brembo brakes working in joyful unison, the Stingray makes driving around corners just as exciting as tearing up the pavement in a straight line. This might be the first Corvette in living memory that you don't have to drive fast to enjoy.
SYMBOL OF A NEW GENERAL MOTORS
The new Corvette, in many ways, is emblematic of the new General Motors and of a company looking to atone for past sins.
