Now, a new paper from a team of researchers offers the most convincing evidence yet."Lunar caves have <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/vanishing-radio-signals-mystery-objects-in-milky-way-galaxy-center-2022-1">remained a mystery</a> for over 50 years. During the day, the sun's heat bakes the lunar surface to about 250 degrees Fahrenheit, and at night, it can dip below -200 F.But in underground caves, the temperature would be both consistent and, as indicated by past research, very comfortable.In a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2022GL099710">2022 study</a> of the same region — Mare Tranquillitatis — a separate team of researchers used computer simulations to suggest that permanently shadowed regions within these lunar pits, and any adjacent caves, would remain at about 63 F."These caves would provide an environment where temperature is much easier to control," Patterson said.Reaching these pits and caves is another matter. In the future, a spacecraft with a higher-resolution radar could even map the interior of all the pits LRO has identified, the Nature paper says.Such a "complete survey" would allow them to assess the best locations for further exploration and future moon bases, the researchers wrote.There's also a chance that moon caves harbor water, a crucial resource for any future moon bases.Scientists have long known there's frozen water on the moon — just under its surface, in its permanently shadowed craters, and even in lonely H2O molecules sprinkled across the sunlit lunar dirt, less moist than the Sahara Desert.Since underground caves are shielded from the merciless vacuum of space and the radiation of the sun, they could have water or ice, Bruzzone told the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-07-16/cave-discovered-on-the-moon/104102032">Australian Broadcasting Corporation</a>.Access to lunar water is key to NASA's plans to establish a permanent base on the moon and, eventually, use it to hopscotch astronauts to Mars. That number includes those who tested positive and continue to test positive, those who initially tested negative but have since tested positive, and those who are awaiting final testing before they can be classified as recovered.Fourteen sailors have recovered, with the requirement for recovery being two successive negative tests.At this point, all of the USS Theodore Roosevelt's roughly 4,800 sailors have been tested at least once.The outbreak aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt was first announced on March 24, when there were only three cases on board. Universal PicturesAnd there are three "buffers" that protect against relationship decline.I recently read an article in The Atlantic, titled, "<a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2017/05/how-people-decide-whether-to-have-children/527520/">How People Decide Whether to Have Children</a>." There was one sentence I kept coming back to.Some background before I share that particular sentence: Atlantic writer Olga Khazan spoke to a sociologist who told her that both parents and people who don't have kids generally seek to strengthen relationships - either their bond with their kids or their romantic partnership.The sociologist told Khazan that for people without kids - and here's the sentence that struck me - "one of the very common reasons they cite is they value their relationship with their partner, and having a child will shift that relationship."Khazan, who asked readers to write in explaining why they chose to have kids or not, said one childfree woman wrote: "My husband and I are happily married almost 10 years now." She went on: "I know for a fact that the happiness and huge love are due to the fact that we have the time, energy and desire to put each other first. To throw that away for a kid would be nuts."I don't yet have kids, so I don't have first-hand, anecdotal evidence to support the idea that a relationship between parents changes drastically - or doesn't - after a kid enters the picture. So I started doing some research to see what scientists had found.As it turns out, a <a href="http://psycnet.apa.org/journals/fam/14/1/59/">2000 paper</a> authored by Alyson Fearnley Shapiro, John M. Gottman, and Sybil Carrere, then at the University of Washington, pinpointed three key predictors of declines in marital satisfaction after couples had a baby.The researchers explain that the wife's dissatisfaction is often a key predictor of the husband's dissatisfaction, and of eventual divorce. As Shapiro described <a href="http://www.washington.edu/news/2000/10/24/good-news-for-expectant-couples-arrival-of-first-baby-doesnt-mean-wifes-marital-satsfaction-has-to-take-big-nose-dive/">in a release</a>, wives' marital dissatisfaction after parenthood comes down to:<ul><li>"a husband's expression of negativity toward his wife," like if a husband wasn't able to tell the researchers what attracted him to his wife</li><li>"a husband's disappointment in the marriage," like if the husband was depressed when talking about his marriage</li><li>"a description by either partner of their lives as being chaotic," like if the couple believed that unexpected problems had weakened their relationship</li></ul>These conclusions are based on a study of 82 married couples over the course of about six years. (The study began in the late 1980s, when the couples were newly married. All couples were heterosexual.) Roughly half the couples had kids at some point during the study; the other half didn't.At the study's outset, researchers conducted interviews with the couples, asking them questions about their relationship's history and their philosophy on marriage. Each year after that, and on some other occasions, the researchers got in touch with the couples to ask follow-up questions.Interestingly, of the couples who didn't have kids, 17 divorced; no divorces took place among couples who had kids.But when it came to marital satisfaction, that declined for 67% of the wives who became parents, compared to 49% of the wives who didn't become parents. What's more, among wives who became parents, 33% said their marital satisfaction stayed stable or increased, while 51% of the wives who didn't become parents said the same.So what helped that 33% of parents maintain intimacy?Shapiro said there are certain "buffers" against marital disaster after the birth of a childhood:<ul><li>"Building fondness and affection for your partner" </li><li>"Being aware of what is going on in your spouse's life and being responsive to it"</li><li>"Approaching problems as something you and your partner can control and solve together as a couple"</li></ul>She called this combination the "glue" that holds a marriage together.<a href="http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2352250X16300276">More recent research</a>, by Brian D. Doss at the University of Miami and Galena K. Rhoades at the University of Denver, highlighted other factors that help determine what the transition to parenthood will be like.For example, people who are high in "<a href="https://psychcentral.com/lib/how-to-change-your-attachment-style/">anxious attachment</a>" - like people who are always afraid their partner will leave them - may experience relationship dissatisfaction when they think their partners aren't being supportive.And people who are high in "avoidant attachment" - like people who avoid getting close to their partner and fear commitment - may get frustrated when they struggle with balancing work and family demands.According to the research by Doss and Rhoades, having a kid earlier in a relationship generally predicts worse relationship outcomes - though, interestingly, unplanned pregnancies aren't linked to unhappier relationships than planned pregnancies are.The key thing to remember here is that - as cliche as it sounds - every relationship is different. While Apple doesn't break out details about wearables, growth in Watch shipments signals a positive outlook for the company's healthcare initiatives - CEO Tim Cook called the development a "major strategic thrust of ours."The Apple Watch spearheads the company's healthcare efforts, boasting several partnerships with researchers and health systems. For example, Apple is using consumer data collected from the Apple Heart study to seek FDA approval for a new "investigational device." A consent form sent to study participants noted that some de-identified user data would be a part of the company's FDA submission. MobiHealthNews says it confirmed that the "device" was the Heart Study app itself, which likely includes the algorithm used to identify heart arrhythmia. The Apple Heart Study <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/digital-health-briefing-apple-stanford-medicine-launch-afib-study-mdlive-introduces-a-healthcare-chatbot-app-provider-launches-medical-blockchain-platform-2017-12">launched</a> in November 2017 in conjunction with Stanford Medicine and telehealth firm American Well.Although the Apple Watch is leading Apple's health strategy, it isn't the company's sole health-focused offering: <ul><li>ResearchKit and CareKit, Apple's developer frameworks, provide the basis for researchers to develop and maintain apps that track health data. The Health app update is an important step in solving the interoperability issues that plague the EHR market.</li><li>Apple <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/digital-health-briefing-apple-unveils-health-clinic-fitbit-misses-earnings-amid-pivot-samsungs-new-phone-will-have-in-built-health-trackers-2018-2">unveiled</a> the AC Wellness Network in February 2018. The group of internal health clinics will provide Apple's employees and their families with healthcare services. Current job listings for AC Wellness suggest that the network will offer primary care services, access to health and exercise coaches, and on-site lab tests. The company's foray into healthcare wearables opened the door to multiple relationships with healthcare companies and provided Nokia with a "new perspective" on the healthcare space, Nokia chief strategy officer Kathrin Buvac said. Within healthcare, Nokia could offer IoT and wireless solutions for hospitals and healthcare systems.CMS CHIEF WANTS HEALTHCARE TO TAKE A PAGE FROM RETAIL'S BOOK: The healthcare industry needs to begin replicating the transparency of the retail industry, US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma said Monday during World Health Care Congress, <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/04/30/cms-verma-says-its-time-health-care-caught-up-to-other-industries.html">according</a> to CNBC. Health systems should start by posting their prices online, before enabling easy consumer access to health records. Verma noted that across many other industries, such as retail and finance, operational transparency was par for the course, however, healthcare lags. The interoperability and transparency of healthcare is a core focus for the CMS. Verma <a href="https://www.digitalhealth.net/2018/03/us-government-health-interoperability-himss18/">announced</a> several new interoperability initiatives in March with the aim of developing a free-flowing healthcare ecosystem that gives patients greater control over their data. For instance, at the conference, the CMS unveiled MyHealthEData, which ensures that patients receive a copy of their entire health record electronically. Meanwhile, healthcare firms are working to improve data interoperability to ensure they're prepared for the reimbursement shift to value-based care from fee-for-service. More than 70% of healthcare financial executives say they must improve data interoperability within the next three years to ensure the success of value-based care, <a href="http://www.hfma.org/ValueBasedPaymentReadiness/">according</a> to a Healthcare Financial Management Association survey.HEALTH SYSTEM DRIVES 2000-TO-1 ROI WITH BIG DATA ANALYTICS PLATFORM: Texas-based University Health System is using big data analytics to target and engage with potential mammogram patients, yielding significant returns, <a href="http://www.healthcareitnews.com/news/big-data-helps-health-system-match-patients-providers-needed-services">according</a> to Healthcare IT News. The health system partnered with data management firm Tea Leaves Health, which uses patient-relationship management (PRM) software to identify and contact eligible patients for mammogram screening services. Tea Leaves Health combines patient records with demographic and social media data to provide healthcare organizations with patient profiles that inform healthcare provision and outreach strategies. The platform facilitates patient engagement through targeted ads, e-mail, and traditional mail. Early results of the program resulted in a 2,000-to-1 return on investment for University Health System, reflecting how big data analytics tools can enable organizations to utilize available information on healthcare trends and tap substantial revenue opportunities. <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/waynes-world-feud-mike-myers-445044" target="_blank">The Hollywood Reporter</a> called it "a public burying of the hatchet" after actor Dana Carvey and director Penelope Spheeris both notoriously fell out with Mike Myers after he blocked Spheeris from directing the 1993 sequel because "she'd ignored his edit suggestions on the original."
Carvey and Myers, who originated the "Wayne's World" sketch on "Saturday Night Live," have apparently never been close.
