Fat salary packages are not the only thing that attracts Indian professionals now. They are looking for much more, such as career growth opportunities, company’s vision and mission, etc. 
 A survey by <keyword id="28120" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Linkedin">LinkedIn</keyword> suggests, in India, 14 out of 25 top companies were home-grown firms in which Indian professionals want to work. 
 
LinkedIn announced its first-ever Top Attractors List in which it examined LinkedIn data and unveiled the top companies where professionals want to work now. 
 
“It is important that employers continue to build and invest in an employer brand that relates to, and resonates with both potential and existing employees,” said Irfan Abdulla, Director Talent Solutions, LinkedIn India 
 
During the survey, LinkedIn found out what Indian professionals were looking in an employer. 
 
It stated that opportunity for career growth (79%); a competitive salary (69%); and a healthy business (62%) were top three preferences.

LinkedIn says these are the 10 companies, Indians will do anything to work in

At a time when it’s raining acquisitions everywhere, a company names Apax Partners is planning to exit an acquisition. According to an Economic Times report, Apax Partners, which had financed IGate's $1.2-billion (Rs 7,482 crore at current exchange rate) takeover of Patni, is planning to exit the acquisition, which is on the top lists of acquisition targets in the IT industry. 
 
The financial daily reports that Capgemini, Atos and Genpact are trying to acquire a part of IGate’s Patni Computer that Apax Partners have put on sale. 
 
In November, Apax Partners, which owns about 30% of the company, converted its debt in the company into equity and then filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission to have the option to sell its entire stake. 
 
 
The report further explains why three IT players (mentioned in the report above) are interesting in iGate. "IGate is the Goldilocks of the IT industry. They are not too big, not too small. They are just the right size and scale. And they'd be a good fit for Capgemini, Atos or even Genpact," said Peter Bendor-Samuel, CEO of IT advisory firm Everest. 
 
Of all three, Capegemini is expected to be a likely buyer of the US-headquartered company feels analysts. London-based UBS analyst Michael Briest mentioned in a note that Capgemini would receive additional tax benefits from the deal, as it is carrying a large deferred tax asset in the US.

"Under the "dismissive" framework, implied market volatility should increase less for a given economic surprise than under our previous framework - a "reactive" framework based on the idea that the Fed would be more data dependent. As a result, we turn neutral on implied volatility."

On Wednesday, it was revealed that mean expectations for the benchmark Fed funds rate see it at 1.2% by the end of 2015, and 2.5% by the end of 2016. The longer-term the Fed reduced its terminal target Fed funds rate projection to 3.75%. But what does all this mean for investors? "An investor can think of the federal funds rate and QE as a gas pedal," writes Matthew Tucker in a piece for BlackRock Blog. "…We still don't expect the Fed to hit the brakes and push the fed funds rate above the "longer run policy rate"; instead we expect continued declining acceleration."
Citing his colleague Rick Rieder, Tucker points out that this outlook offers two key opportunities for investors. 1. "Long-end municipals in the U.S. Munis took a considerable hit a year ago when interest rates rose sharply, but have gained momentum in the past two quarters as interest rates have declined and sentiment has improved; we believe there is value to be found here as a source of income in a continued yield challenge environment." 2. "The housing sector continues to improve, and while its recovery has slowed recently, we believe the upward trend will continue. The continued low level of market volatility is also good for MBS performance."

This is a difficult time for advisors helping their investor search for yield. "The longer the duration of the bond, the greater the risk that its value will decline," writes Hugh Lamle, president of M.D. Sass Investors Services, in a WSJ column. "Short-term bonds are less susceptible to that risk, but consequently, their yields tend to be very low." But he does argue that mortgage-backed securities are an exception. 
"Currently, these securities yield around 1.85% to their weighted average duration, almost twice that of comparable securities that are not U. S. government mortgage-backed issues," he writes. "What's more, mortgage-backed securities pay monthly interest which means they're generating cash that you can frequently reinvest monthly at potentially higher rates when and as they eventually rise. The ability to redeploy that cash into higher-yielding bonds helps protect against the potential damage done by rising interest rates. Given those advantages, it is just about the only short-term strategy in today's market that really makes sense."

FINANCIAL ADVISOR INSIGHTS: Trust In The Wealth Management Industry Spiked In 2014 

In what will be a big deal for the global IT sector, Capgemini on Monday announced that it will acquire <keyword id="20356" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="igate">IGate</keyword> in a transaction that will amount to $4.04 billion. 
 
Capgemini and IGate entered into a definitive merger agreement under which it will acquire IGate. IGate is a US-listed technology and services company headquartered in New Jersey (US), with revenues over $1.2 billion, double-digit growth, 19% operating margin in 2014 and a global employee talent capital of 33,000. 
 
The transaction is expected to be immediately accretive to Capgemini's operating margin and Earnings Per Share. 
 
"The combined group strengthens Capgemini's position as a leading company in IT services, outsourcing and consulting, with an estimated combined revenue of $ 12.5 billion, combined operating margin above 10% and around 190,000 people serving clients worldwide," the company said in its press release. 
 Capgemini <keyword id="17958" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chairman-and-CEO">Chairman and CEO</keyword>, <keyword id="270078" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Paul-Hermelin">Paul Hermelin</keyword> said, "I am very pleased to announce a very important transaction in Capgemini's history. IGate is a leading company that perfectly fits our strategic ambition. It will give us a new status on the American market, and take further our industrialization journey to offer ever more competitive services to our clients. This will also give to the Group's Indian operations a new scale, allowing us to compete on par with the best US-based and Indian-based companies."

"A market-cap investor would have had 50% in Japan in the late 1980s in the biggest bubble we have ever seen (Japan is only 8% of world market cap now) and the majority of his assets in one of the most expensive markets in the world currently--the United States," he writes, adding however that he doesn't think the U.S. in a bubble. Instead he suggest weighting markets and companies by value as his ETF "Global Value" does.

But by doing this, advisors are missing out on a huge chunk of the market, reports Matthias Rieker at The Wall Street Journal. "There is nonetheless at least one very good reason to target the small investor: It's a massive market, and it's underserved," writes Rieker. "According to research firm Cerulli Associates, 73% of American households are worth less than $100,000, but only 15% of advisers focus on such investors." It's argued that one of the reasons traditional advisors beginning to pay attention to less wealthy American households is because of the emergence of robo-advisors.

We're not at the market top yet according to David Rosenberg at Gluskin Sheff. This he argues is because "public participation has yet to reach level that typifies the final blow-off an equity bull market. ...We have yet to see Bob Farrell's Rule #5 (the public buys most at the peak and least at the bottom)," citing the legendary Merrill Lynch strategist. But how do you really know when you have arrived at the "aha moment" that signals that it is time to exit the stock market.
"Go back to each cycle and you will see that each fundamental peak in the S&amp;P 500 actually represented a 'failed' peak," he writes. "In other words, the market doest a 'double top' at the highs. It hits a first peak, corrects mildly from it as the proverbial 'smart money' takes profits, and then makes its way to a new high as the last gasp moves up takes hold (generally driven by those who missed out on the bull run and end up capitulating right at the wrong time)." 
"Now at that first peak, the momentum is so strong that typically the S&amp;P 500 is up 11% on average over a 30-day period. So the actual classic 'melt up' everyone talks about is the first peak. This tends to stir up a frenzy that pulls the momentum crowd and many neophytes into the market hook, line, and sinker. A mini-correction then follows and the brokers typically tell their clients not to miss the boat again - but you know the gig is up if the market makes a new high and does so on weak breadth (lower participation as measured by the NYSE 52-week high list) and Bob Farrell's rule #7 coincides with fulfillment of that rule #5 (rule #7 goes like this: markets are strongest when they are broad, and weakest when they narrow to a handful of blue-chip names)."

This comes after a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) commissioner, Kara Stein, said FINRA's disciplinary actions were "too often financially insignificant for the wrongdoers." He suggested that FINRA update their sanctions. Susan Axelrod, Finra's executive vice president told the WSJ that they shouldn't just be judged by the size of the fines. She also said that they would take another look at their guidelines and ensure that their penalties would be "meaningful and will have an impact."

Kitchens he thinks offer a more useful guide than income and assets. Certain measures look at certain items in a home to understand socio-economic status. "So a person with a laptop, TV, mobile phone and stereo could be classified as rich. Yet in our field research, we've met people in countries like Ghana whose ramshackle homes are full of electronic devices but who are quite obviously poor," he writes.
"In working-class homes, the fridge is used mainly for efficiency items (Display). It includes basic foods such as eggs, fruits and vegetables and some pre-cooked food. Middle-class fridges stock more indulgences, from alcoholic beverages to chocolate and cheese. And for affluent households, health is a primary concern. So expect to find foods like low-fat yogurt or 100% fruit juices."
"Our research suggests that China is in the indulgence phase. So companies that make products like beer, butter and chocolates should benefit from rising incomes. Indian families are still buying fridges, then filling them with efficiency items like milk, yogurt and ready-made sauces. Brazil has already shifted toward health mode, which should see higher-end food producers draw more spending."

Kitces has an interesting idea that he thinks advisors could pitch to clients. "By contrast, an alternative approach is to try to spend "just" 50% of each pay raise you receive in the future (implicitly saving the other 50%)," writes Kitces. "The end result of such an approach is that increases in the standard of living are more controlled and rise far more slowly, savings grow exponentially (to more than 20% of income within just a decade, even from a starting point of 0%!), and you can even retire early… all while feeling like your lifestyle is steadily rising as you're still committed to spending more every year, just not increasing as rapidly as saving 10% of your income (and spending the rest)!"

There were nearly 2 million new high net worth individuals (HNWI) in 2013, according to the latest World Wealth Report from Capegemini and RBC Wealth Management. Wealth among HNWI, which refers to those with over $1 million in assets, grew 13.8% to $52.62 trillion. Among Ultra-HNWI there was a marked shift away from wealth preservation to wealth growth. "A focus on wealth growth instead of preservation gained ground, particularly among ultra-HNWIs," according to the report. "Specifically, their preference for growth increased dramatically to 30.7% from 18.0% in 2013, while the focus on preservation declined from 44.8% to 27.6%."
"While HNWIs across the globe are still slightly more focused on preserving their wealth (28.6%) than growing it (27.6%), the percentage of respondents focused on preservation has come down from 32.7% a year earlier."

Everyone's focused on major demographic changes coming with baby boomer retirement. But their children, dubbed the echo boomers, are emerging as a prominent force. "There are more 23-year olds than any other age group in the US today," said Deutsche Bank's Torsten Slok. 
"This is an underappreciated investment theme across asset classes. The fact that the echo-boomers are coming has implications for household formations and housing demand in coming years, inflows into 401(k) accounts, demand for risky assets (younger cohorts tend to put their retirement savings in stocks rather than bonds), the amount of student debt outstanding (there are more young people and more young people get an education), and as the baby-boomers retire echo-boomers will come in and take the jobs of the baby-boomers but at a lower pay."

FINRA's has proposed a data collection system called Comprehensive Automated Risk Data System (CARDS), which aims to collect customer trade data to better detect fraudulent practices. Joyce Hanson at Investment News now reports that SIFMA president Kenneth Bentsen Jr is warning that, "policy makers and regulators must consider that these additional new rules … will have to be absorbed by the firms and ultimately their customers through additional costs or reduced services and choice."

Long-term investing takes discipline and logic and in many ways involves investing like a Vulcan, writes Joe Davis chief economist at Vanguard. "Vulcans were devoted to discipline, too. Some of them chose to complete Kolinahr training, in which they demonstrated that they had purged themselves of emotions," he writes. "Advisors are like Kolinahr masters. They set clients on the path to disciplined investing by asking the right questions to identify goals and then developing diversified, low-cost portfolios to achieve them. Then, during those inevitable market downturns, advisors help clients resist the panicky urge to sell."
He points out that long-term investing requires the use of logic, another skill Vulcans have. "The logic of low costs is relentless. At its heart is the idea that you can't control most of life or the markets, so you should control what you can. Costs are high on that list." Davis also reminds us that Spock, the most famous Vulcan, was part human and worked well with the more reckless and human Jim Kirk. "Active funds also meet an emotional need, a human need, to hope," he writes.

Last year, the market cycle was such that individual stocks tended to have returns that were similar to the given indexes. Macro strategies did well then, writes Paul J. Boyd of ClearPath Capital Partners in a WSJ column. As the economic cycle moves, Boyd argues that this is a good time to take a more active approach. 
"Historically, in the cycle following a phase of high equity correlation, there tends to be a lot more disparity between returns--and that's precisely what we've seen since the end of 2013," he writes. "We're halfway through a year that's been marked by higher dispersion, where the performance between individual stock returns and the market itself is varied."
..."Now that we're almost through with two full quarters of 2014, the success of that active approach has become clear: Actively managed strategies are up an average of 2.5% over those tracking the moves of broad indexes."

Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) employees clearly did well for themselves last year. The average compensation and salary for FINRA employees in 2013 was $197,000 ex certain costs, reports Bruce Kelly at Investment News. "That's pretty sweet, particularly as it practically doubles the mean wage earned at all 167 occupation titles listed in the 2013 'Securities and Commodity Contracts Intermediation and Brokerage' wage estimates tallied by the Bureau of Labor Statistics," reports Kelly. 
"The fact of the matter is that Finra must compete with the securities industry when attracting, and especially retaining, workers who have the necessary regulatory training, expertise and knowledge," Finra spokeswoman Nancy Condon told Kelly in an email interview. "Our salaries must be competitive to keep the highly skilled individuals that Finra employs."

Advisors need to give their clients pro-active advice if they want to see client loyalty writes Dan Richards in Advisor Perspectives. "The difficulty lies in how clients interpret 'stay the course' recommendations, especially in tough markets," he writes. "All too often, they view advice to stand pat as the easy way out for their advisors, representing passivity and lack of effort on their part."
He suggests that advisors do these five things: 1. Advisors should update clients on their portfolio holdings, otherwise clients might feel like they're not doing much. 2. "Take advantage of opportunities to rebalance …Besides offering investment merits, rebalancing gives you another opportunity to approach clients with proactive recommendations." 3. Working on tax efficiency in investing and on after-tax returns offers a good opportunity to get in touch with clients. 4. Clients often are worried about the poor performers in their portfolio. Advisors should explain their decision to hold or sell the asset. 5. Changing out holdings is another proactive way to approach a client. "Even though there may not be a big difference between the bond that's matured and the new one you're recommending, the fact that you've gone to the effort to research an alternative sends a positive message to clients."
