He replies, “Too many.” BYJU’s latest film aims to throw a spotlight on how the pandemic has created a catastrophic education emergency in our country, putting our children’s future on an indefinite hiatus. <div type="Youtube" id="gsqnvTUmkt0" title="BYJU'S Education For All" thumbUrl="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/gsqnvTUmkt0/mqdefault.jpg"></div> The film shows how children in remote areas travel miles to go to school. With the ongoing pandemic, many of them have been deprived of their right to education as schools have shut down or have moved online. Across India, 1.5 million school closings have affected 247 million children in elementary and secondary schools, according to a UNICEF study. As the pandemic drags on, more and more students have dropped out of school and the most marginalized communities are paying the biggest price. Many young kids have been forced into child labour or child marriage and are cut off from the early development stages of childhood. With an aim to bridge this gap, BYJU’s launched its CSR initiative called ‘Education for All’ last year. So far, the EdTech giant has reached 3.4 million students and has now revised its vision to empower 10 million children, up from 5 million, by 2025. Under the initiative, BYJU’s has partnered with over 110 NGO partners and launched its program in 26 states, whereby its educational content is loaded onto the devices with free access for the students and the teachers. “Even pre-pandemic, there were about 13 million children out of school and 67% of these kids out of school are girls in the grade category of six to eight. Experts predict that the pandemic is likely to double this number. Now, in terms of the quality of education, the SSO report says that there are about 110 million children in India who do not receive good quality education, even though they're part of some base-level education or primary education level system. Education is a fundamental right of every child in India, as per the Constitution, but it's about the quality of education. It's also about the availability of teachers. So if you just look at the education sector in general, I think the problems are just plenty and the scale of them is something that I don't think a single organization like ours can actually address which is why we've taken the ecosystem approach. It is a mix of NGOs, the government, other corporates, everybody is going to contribute,” Mansi Kasliwal, VP - Social Initiatives, BYJU'S told Advertising and Media Insider citing various studies. As per UNICEF, only 24% of households in India had access to the internet pre-COVID and there is a large rural-urban and gender divide. With its EFA initiative, BYJU’s has been providing at-home school through a personal digital device. However, every child has different needs. Kasliwal told us how BYJU’s devices are supporting them in catching up on the learning they have missed. She said, “The needs are different in terms of the grade, their state board and language; these are the three basic things that we need to know about before giving out a course. This information comes to us from the NGO, and we are able to customize the program for each child. So each child gets a course that is aligned to their learning needs. Also, we understand that great competency is a real challenge on-ground. So a fifth-grader in one of these areas may actually not know addition and subtraction. Whereas for a regular child of fifth grade, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and everything has to be known. So before we begin a program, we find out where the learning gaps are built through bridge learning programs and then give them content. So there are multiple efforts that are being taken through aptitude tests, bridge learning programs, gap identification, assessment tests and then there’s teacher training.” BYJU’s film, which has been released to raise more awareness around the digital divide and its CSR initiative, was conceptualised and created by BYJU’S internal brand team. Panning and tilting across the scenic views of Uri in Kashmir to the panoramic white deserts of Kutch to the hinterlands of Sundarbans, the film is shot across Sonmarg, Jaisalmer, Alupuzzah etc for over 120 hours along with 1000+ beneficiary students. Talking about the film, Vineet Singh, VP- Brand and Creative Strategy, BYJU’S said, “An impactful story needs an impactful, even more, or a little bigger impactful way of communicating the story out and that's what we tried to do with this. The objective is simple - get the story out to more and more people. The objective is not to piggyback on this to build a brand narrative The objective is to just reach out to more and more people. And the more and more people see this film, the more people join in. That's our end objective. We’ve started with a digital-first narrative. The music is available on all leading music platforms as well including Spotify, JioSaavn, Apple Music, and we have some specific digital strategy pushing towards the music as well. So you will see a lot of content around that and we partnered with a few influencers.” The film’s music follows along with the unique rhythm of the mathematical ‘table of 2,’ and is rendered artfully by actor-singer Raghubir Yadav. So, with this high-engagement that we offer, brands should maintain a dialogue with creators during their partnership,” says Aparna. (Eds: Combines related stories) Mumbai, Mar 8 () Rana Kapoor, the founder of crisis-ridden Yes Bank, was arrested by the ED on Sunday under money-laundering charges after over 20 hours of questioning and remanded to its custody till March 11, a day after the CBI booked him for allegedly receiving kickbacks of Rs 600 crore in form of loans to a company held by his three daughters.As the agencies tightened the noose around the 62-year-old, his daughter Roshni Kapoor was stopped by ED from taking a flight to London as she is required to join the probe, officials said.On Saturday, the agency had widened its probe as the premises of Kapoor's daughters in Delhi and Mumbai were searched to gather more evidence.The banker was taken into custody at the ED office in Ballard Estate under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act around 3 am on Sunday as he was allegedly not cooperating in the probe, they said. Kapoor was questioned for over 20 hours after ED raided his residence on Friday night.On Sunday, the ED produced Kapoor before a holiday court in Mumbai and sought his remand, saying the role of some companies run by his family members needs to be established and they need to confront all these people with him.The defence lawyer, however, said Kapoor has been selectively targeted by ED and he is cooperating with the probe agency. "We are ready to cooperate and submit all the documents that the agency wants. I have fully cooperated with them," Kapoor said in the court."From the last few days I was not well, hence my family members took me to Breach Candy Hospital, but still I am cooperating with ED," he told in the court.However, the ED told the court it wants to conduct a through investigation and "many people are under the scanner". The court then remanded Rana Kapoor in ED's custody till March 11.Kapoor was arrested by ED on the basis of the CBI FIR registered on Saturday, after allegations of financial irregularities and mismanagement in the operations of Yes Bank surfaced and the RBI and the Union government initiated action to control its affairs.Sources said the CBI booked Kapoor, DoIT Urban Ventures Ltd, a company allegedly held by his family members and promoter-director of DHFL Kapil Wadhawan for alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating and corruption. The details of the FIR emerged on Sunday when the enforcement case information report (ECIR) of ED became public.The CBI alleged Kapoor entered into a criminal conspiracy with Wadhawan for extending financial assistance to DHFL though Yes Bank in return for substantial undue benefits to himself and his family members through companies held by them.According to the CBI FIR, the scam started taking shape between April and June 2018 when Yes Bank invested Rs 3,700 crore in short-term debentures of scam-hit DHFL.In return, Wadhawan allegedly "paid kickback of Rs 600 crore" to Kapoor and family members in the form of loans to DoIT Urban Ventures (India) Pvt Ltd, officials said.DoIT Urban Ventures is held by daughters of Kapoor - Roshini, Radha and Rakhee - which are 100 per cent share holders of the company through Mogran Credits Pvt Ltd, it alleged."Rana Kapoor obtained undue pecuniary advantage from DHFL in the matter of investment in the debentures of DHFL by Yes Bank, through the companies held by his wife and daughters," the FIR alleged.The ED investigating officer had recorded Kapoor's statement under PMLA when he was first interrogated on Friday night at his upscale residence in 'Samudra Mahal' complex in Worli area here.He was brought to the ED office on Saturday noon for a fresh round of questioning.According to officials, Kapoor's wife Bindu and daughters - Rakhee Kapoor Tandon, Roshni Kapoor and Radha Kapoor - are allegedly linked to some companies to which the suspected "proceeds of crime" have been traced.The central agency is also probing Kapoor's role in connection with the disbursal of loans to some corporate entities and the subsequent alleged kickbacks reportedly received in his wife's accounts.Other alleged irregularities are also under the agency's scanner including the one related to the alleged PF fraud in the Uttar Pradesh power corporation, they added.The CBI has recently taken over investigation into the Rs 2,267-crore Employees' Provident Fund fraud in Uttar Pradesh, where hard-earned savings of power sector employees were invested in Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL).The Reserve Bank of India had on Thursday imposed a moratorium on Yes Bank, capping withdrawals at Rs 50,000 per account, and superseded the board of the private sector lender with immediate effect.Yes Bank will not be able to grant or renew any loan or advance, make any investment, incur any liability or agree to disburse any payment.As per the RBI's draft reconstruction scheme, State Bank of India will pick up 49 per cent stake in Yes Bank under a government-approved bailout plan. I had no idea what to expect. I didn't speak the language and while I'd lived in other Asian countries before, this was the first one I was entering alone. Who knew that a 6-month study abroad program would forever change my life?After finishing college, I returned to Japan to start my career not knowing where it would take me. All I knew was that I enjoyed teaching English, and Japan was looking for teachers. Now it's 21 years later, and I'm still here. In the West, family comes first. We love our family so we work. Here it used to be - we work, so we can have a family. That trend has all but disappeared with the current generation. Besides a few holdovers from the old days, today more and more Japanese people are putting their family first and it's something companies are still struggling to adapt to.<h2>Cool biz</h2>This was introduced back in 2005 as a means to reduce electricity consumption by limiting the use of air conditioning. It was quite controversial when it started as companies in Japan had been all about suits. It started out as the summer dress code for government workers, but has since spread to the private sector. Slowly, more and more companies are introducing casual Fridays.<h2>6 p.m.</h2>Recently, Japan passed a law stating that companies would be limited to 100 hours overtime a month. It's scary what to think it was before. It was so bad that some companies were designated as "<a href="https://www.japantimes.co.jp/tag/black-companies/" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.japantimes.co.jp/tag/black-companies/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1553264668448000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEKYq6raK3nCfJ59poqQjuXEcQolw">black companies</a>" due to this practice. Thanks to social media, though, things are changing for the better. A client of mine told me he used to come home, on average, at 2 a.m. in the 90s. Today, he often leaves at 6 p.m.. Atlantic's Alex Madrigal says it's a sign companies are flailing to get their hands on The Next Big Thing. "Maybe they go after a share of TV money, or bet on the Internet of Things, or get in early with the explosion of consumer robotics. These massively valuable companies need to grab some land in whatever big technology wave comes next. And they are starting to buy where they think the fertile territory is.

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-feds-bullard-says-jobless-rate-expected-to-fall-below-six-percent-this-year-2014-26">Bullard.</a> The outlook for the U.S. economy is "pretty good," St. Louis Fed President James Bullard said at a Credit Suisse panel in Hong Kong Wednesday. He expects unemployment to fall below 6% by the end of the year.

Data. Durable goods orders for February come in at 8:30. Consensus headline is for growth to have increased 0.8% from -1%; ex-transportation for a decrease to 0.3% from 1.1%. At 9:45 we get Markit services PMI, expected to increase slightly to 54.0 from 53.3.
Markets. Stocks and futures were green across the world, led by Korea's Kospi at 1.19%. The Aussie dollar is rounding its second month of strong gains against the greenback, and was up 0.71% today.
Italian consumers. March consumer confidence in Italy jumped 4.2 points to 101.7, the highest reading since June 2011. January retail sales fell 0.9%, less than expected.
<a href="http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303725404579461191077796078?mod=WSJ_hp_LEFTTopStories&amp;mg=reno64-wsj">ECB.</a> The Wall Street Journal's Brian Blackstone says European Central Bank officials are sending "strong signals" that more aggressively dovish monetary will come to fight off deflation. "The possible tools, cited by some top policy makers from different parts of the euro zone, include effective negative interest rates-meaning rates so low that commercial banks would essentially pay the ECB to park their extra cash overnight. They also include purchases of government or private-sector debt to hold down long-term rates and spur lending." The agency next convenes April 3.
