He also underwent three biopsies to extract sperm for IVF with ICSI (recommended for male factor infertility). According to Barnes, many men saw their infertility as "just a medical condition" as opposed to a moral failing. Several men told her that infertility "has no more bearing on what masculinity means than any other disorder, injury, or illness."
