The brand behind this ad, Mondelez India's <keyword id="136808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cadbury-india" source="Orion">Cadbury India</keyword> is converting this fictional world of being surrounded by chocolates, which was every child's dream, into a reality. It has opened its first-ever experiential center in Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai. Called ‘The Purple Room,’ this experiential center takes consumers inside a chocolaty world, allowing them to experience the joy of watching their favourite Cadbury chocolates taking shape live in a 3D printer. <div type="image" title="Cadbury 3d printer" msid="87283017" hostid="261"></div> Throughout Cadbury’s journey, the brand has tried to offer a different experience to consumers. This time, it aims to take it a notch higher. Telling us why the brand chose to launch an experiential center, Anil Vishwanathan, Senior Director, Marketing, Mondelez India, said, “It's been a constant journey of bringing in new concepts and experiences from a premium standpoint, because that's what the consumer is looking for. Over a period of time, it has also translated into the way we are offering personalised and customised experiences on e-commerce and D2C side. Now, The Purple Room is yet another such initiative in the same context, where we are bringing in new experiences to the country and some of these experiences cannot just be done in the regular retail way. We want to offer novel experiences and we're starting with the whole 3D Chocolate but this is one of many interesting new things to market experiences that we want to bring to consumers.” The pandemic has proven how the value of personal attention may be far greater than we gave it credit. So, Cadbury’s The Purple Room is designed to consistently give customers more reasons to return by offering a personalised experience. It houses the whole Mondelez India range, a few exclusive products that are not available in India and also prints customised chocolates as requested by consumers in front of their eyes. When consumers walk out of The Purple Room, Vishwanathan is optimistic that they will be wowed. Talking about what he thinks consumers will feel once they visit, he said, “Definitely a wow. We don't want to create experiences that they've seen before. So that's what we're aiming for. It's not something that they would have seen, even if they've traveled outside India. It's not so much about exclusive merchandise that's not available in India, but available elsewhere, which I've imported. It's not an imported range. It's also not something that's available in the regular stores. Now, of course, you have consumers who also would want the regular merchandise, so we have the merchandise as well. But really the priority is set of experiences that are not available anywhere and maybe new to the country -- not been commercialized ever, and hence, getting consumers to feel a little bit of a wow and leaving the Experience Center saying `oh, this is what I would expect a Cadbury to be doing.’” Cadbury is relying on word-of-mouth to do its magic and bring in organic footfall. It has also planned a few local activations to spread the word about the new center. The idea of launching this experiential center was born earlier this year in January and it took Cadbury 10 months to bring it all together. The brand also wanted to wait for the market to open up. “We actually wanted to do it even faster and more possibly we could have had the second wave not come out. We were ready to launch faster. The launch date was reflective of when it is a safe situation, firstly, allowed by the authorities to open and then of course, the right time for the consumer also starting to feel okay to step out. Now, they're kind of coming back. The likelihood is that they'll come back with a bang because there's a lot of pent up feeling, ‘oh, I'm cooped up at home and I really want to step out, I really want to go somewhere and watch a movie.’ So as that feeling comes back, we see this as a great time to leverage as the momentum is gonna come back,” said Vishwanathan. But why ‘The Purple Room?’ “In partnership with <keyword id="531122" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ogilvy-india" source="Orion">Ogilvy India</keyword>, we wanted to bring in a very recognizable element of our brand. And then also give a little bit of the premium feel to it. So pick up something which people can recognize, but it still evokes a little bit of a premium feel,” Vishwanathan told Ad and Media Insider. On a larger scale, Cadbury will be focusing on increasing its investments as the markets open up and launch new marketing campaigns around generosity. Sharing his optimism about the future, Vishwanathan said, “I think we have had good growth momentum. As we speak, we seem to have come out of the challenges of the first two waves, and we're positive about the future. In the long term, we do believe that we want to continue to grow the category. So we'll stay invested behind our core brands. We also believe the timing is right for us to bring back some of our innovation that we had pulled back for the last couple of years. So as we enter the new year, you will see some interesting innovations come, you'll see a lot of investment and you will continue to see the kinds of campaigns that we've been putting out around our overall purpose of generosity. And it's not just going to be linked only to chocolate, it's also around biscuits and beverages. You'll see a lot of purpose-driven interesting consumer engagement. You'll see a lot of thrust on ecommerce, you'll see a lot of work happening on digital. Most importantly, you will see us staying invested because we are optimistic about the growth opportunity."

With his gang of friends, he is seen playing gully cricket in the streets, re-imagining the nostalgic ad in his own style. What started as a B2B company connecting mandis to stores is now also a B2C company connecting consumers with their local neighborhood merchants such as grocery shops, fruit and vegetable vendors, bakeries or pharmaceuticals via their apps on Android and IOS. Yes, it’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=grofers">Grofers</a> we are talking about. While organizing the supply chain for local stores, they identified that the store-customer link was highly unorganized. Either the shop owners didn't answer the phone or they ran out of stock. Seeing that there was no player in the market addressing this pain point of customers, <keyword id="2466939" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Grofers">Grofers</keyword> jumped in! 
 From 200 delivery boys and team of 25 in December last year, the company has come a long way in less than a year’s time with a plush office in Gurgaon, 4,000 delivery boys, over 5,000 merchants and 1000 plus team members. Clearly, it has in the last one year not only set up the link, but has gone aggressive in expansion (in tier 2 cities), building their team and crafting a well-knit merchant network, after raising several rounds of <keyword id="6357455" type="EVENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Funding">funding</keyword> from investors including Tiger Global Management and Sequoia Capital among others that totals up to $46.5 million. "We are in talks with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Softbank+">Softbank</a> for funding but nothing is finalized yet," Grofers founder <keyword id="331724" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Saurabh-Kumar">Saurabh Kumar</keyword> told Business Insider. 
 
Even as the company plans to expand operations to a few more cities, their focus remains on introducing new categories for customers (like electronics, cosmetics, stationary etc), fine-tuning back-end operations for ensuring availability of stocks at all stores in their listings, educating merchants on importance of 'dark stores' and enhancing customer experience. 
 
“We observed our supply side wasn’t scaling up the same way as we were,” Saurabh tells us. “Merchants give us inventory, we include it in our listings. Despite having 5,000 merchants, we do not have real time information about the products on their shelves. This leads to problems in fulfilling needs of customers in times of sudden rise in demand say over the weekends,” he says. 
 
The company is in efforts to rectify this problem by sharing data of purchasing pattern and educating merchants on the types and quantity of products they should keep in their shops. In addition, they are also encouraging the store owners to open what are called ‘dark stores’ where the stock Grofers will buy from them to deliver to customers will be stored. 
 
“It’s like a back door for us where no customer would walk in. It would be exclusively for us to keep a track of the products that have been supplied to a merchant and the real time status of their shelves so that it’s easier for us to manage and at no time, there is a crunch situation,” he says, adding that a lot of time, energy and technology is being put into use to realize this model. This will help each and every store listed with Grofers to be prepared with enough stock with them always to meet the demands of customers. 
 
The firm is so focused on building foolproof processes to ensure great customer service, it has no time or interest in investing in marketing the brand. “Look, celebrity faces help spike demand for a few days, that’s it, Ultimately if our services are good, our merchants get demand all the time, our customers are supplied quality products they ordered in 90 minutes, we do not need any marketing. Our services have to speak for us and that’s what we are working on,” says Saurabh. Ever since the company started the B2C business, their merchants and delivery boys have championed their brand on the ground. “Word of mouth has been key for us. As the buzz grew and our delivery boys were seen moving around, people started talking about Grofers,” he says. 
 
He doesn’t see e-commerce players like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=flipkart">Flipkart</a> and Amazon entering the fresh produce segment as a threat. In fact a lot of people starting transacting online with Grofers after becoming habitual to the concept of online buying procedures while using e-commerce websites. “We are happy because the more the buzz, the more people feel secure and comfortable in buying things online. They become habitual to it. Then give them a new option and you can see them wanting to explore options that they may have not in the past for example fresh fruits and vegetables,” says Saurabh. 
 
Also increasing competition doesn't seem to be bothering Saurabh and his partner Albinder Dhindsa because Grofers already owns the supply chain for fresh produce, an aim they set out with from the beginning. “It’s difficult to control quality of perishable items because each store would have different standards. We do it for the stores listed with us. Everything right from procurement of fresh produce from mandis to processing, cleaning and packaging is done by us. No human hand touches it after it has left our centers. We bring it to merchants and from their deliver to customers as per orders. We own the entire supply chain in fresh produce and we aim to do that for other categories too in future,” he says. 
 
This well established supply chain has also compelled FMCG companies to approach Grofers at times of launching new products or offers. “A lot of brands are coming onboard and doing product launches around <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Diwali+">Diwali</a> with us like Cadbury is launching exclusive hampers on our platform. If they go by their distribution model, it would take them lot of time to reach the customers, so seeing our hyper local connectivity, they come to us,” he says, adding that Grofers is trying to find ways of giving these brands better visibility. Aware of the fact that their supply chain model attracts MNCs, they intend on being able to manage the supply chain of these MNCs in the times to come. 
 
“For customers, Grofers wants to make life easy. You want anything from that local store round the corner, our merchants should have it in stock and you should be able to find it easily on our apps at any time. We want that you find it easier to turn to Grofers and order than going all the way to the store or using another platform. That’s requires good technology, established back-end processes, good quality supply of products, timely delivery and trust and we are working very hard on building all of that,” says the founder.

To satisfy these consumers and their sweet tooth, the brand is rolling out its globally loved variant ‘<keyword id="13037790" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="oreo-double" source="Orion">Oreo Double</keyword> Stuf’ in India with nearly double the amount of creme filling. The brand is also extending its global campaign ‘Oreo Lick Race’ challenge, which was taken up by even Former US President Donald Trump, to India on social media platforms. Participants are encouraged to twist the Oreo biscuit and lick off the crème filling, before showing it to their opponent, dunk the biscuit, eat the Oreo and drink all the milk. The first one to finish the ritual, wins. “Oreo Double Stuf is really a lot more Crème and what it does is it gives us a lot more experience than just it being another variant differential experience. Globally, Oreo Double Stuf is a great strategic base for us. It's number two in the UK and the US. We actually consider Oreo Double Stuf to add incrementality to the Oreo base itself; adding more households and more occasions,” said Sunainika Singh, Category Head – Biscuits &amp; Bakes, Mondelez India. Mondelez India has been actively trying to expand Oreo’s presence in the country with its variants including Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk Oreo, Oreo Cadbury Dipped, etc. With its latest variant, Oreo is also targeting India’s growing appetite for ready-to-eat, snacking products, especially after consumers are increasingly spending more time in their homes due to the pandemic. Oreo Double Stuf’s packaging and price point will be different from its other variants. Its red colour stands out on a shelf, giving it a premium look. So we're looking to increase the depth as well amongst existing Oreo households through Oreo Double Stuf.” Oreo’s primary target market for this variant is families with kids as it is hoping to give them an opportunity to spend more time together and make the much-loved ‘Twist Lick Dunk’ a ritual. And to gain new consumers and spread the word, Oreo is going all digital. Sharing the media strategy behind the campaign, Singh said, “We're going to go with an all-out digital marketing campaign. Oreo Double Stuf will be available across all channels from traditional trade and modern trade and we're also doing a lot of partnerships with the ecom team. We are tying up with Instagram Reels and YouTube shorts. We're also looking at partnerships with platforms like MOJ, and also some collaborations that allow us some gamification. So we are going wherever the consumer is to excite them about this new product.” The brand made its entry in India in 2011 and since then, it has become one of India’s most loved biscuit brands. According to Tofler, Mondelez India’s revenues for financial year 2020-21 were up 10% to ₹8,038 crore and the company claims to be a market leader in the chocolate category in India with over 65% of the market share (as per Nielsen), with Cadbury Dairy Milk alone commanding a market share of over 40%. And for its biscuit brand Oreo, India is its third largest market after the US and China. Today, it is not only a biscuit in India, it has become a ‘flavour’ that you find in every Juice and Shake Center in our country. As the brand launched new variants, its brand image and communication also changed over the years. We asked Singh about Oreo’s secret sauce when it comes to India. Telling us what has worked for the brand, she shared, “For us, number one is listening to the consumer, being where the consumer is and looking at how the consumer is evolving. Again, COVID has taught us a lot. How are the parents-kids relationships changing -- that's something that's core to Oreo. The second, of course, is media, and where does a consumer reside today and how do we interact with the consumer across various digital platforms that are available beyond television, to really make them engage with Oreo beyond just being a product to consume and the thirdly, being available across the right price points in the right channels is absolutely pivotal to our growth.” Singh added that with the launch of the new variant, Oreo is hoping to cement itself into the entire portfolio instead of staying at a variant level and help drive strong growth for the brand.

<ul><li>When you are fighting a never-ending battle against age-old norms and working towards building an inclusive future for all genders beyond the binary, every small step counts.</li><li>This listicle is an effort to appreciate brands and advertising agencies that gave under-represented communities a much-needed chance to voice their concerns through their advertising campaigns.</li></ul>The first half of 2021 gave us some unpleasant personal memories that we all want to bury but the second half gave us some incredible campaigns that pushed the advertising and marketing industry a step forward towards inclusivity. These campaigns gave us hope that there will be a better tomorrow and reminded us to keep believing in ourselves. Some brand campaigns were like a warm hug that made us miss our childhood days -- when we didn’t have to worry about hustling remotely and catching a deadly virus -- and some encouraged us to keep fighting for gender equality. According to a study conducted by Cannes Lions and Google, consumers in APAC want to see more groups represented in marketing, and there’s a <a href="https://www.thinkwithgoogle.com/intl/en-apac/feature/year-in-search-for-brands/">strong appetite for more inclusive content</a>. But as per their research, it seems not enough inclusive content is being created. Only 1 in 5 consumers feel represented in the ads they see. The same research found that male characters in ads are significantly more likely to be shown as having an occupation than female characters (25.5% compared with 16.7%) and are shown as funnier than female characters (22.1% compared with 15.4%), while female characters are more sexualized than male characters — female characters are 4X more likely to be shown in revealing clothing than male characters (10.8% compared with 2.25%). However, there’s still hope. The Indian advertising and marketing world has taken a few baby steps towards gender equality and inclusivity this year. In this listicle, we look at a few brand campaigns that challenged regressive gender and cultural notions in an attempt to make a difference. UNAIDS’ The Mirror | Agency: FCB India The film, ‘The Mirror,’ portrays a young boy who is pouting and opts out of playing with other children during a big Indian kite festival. His mother eggs him on but he sneaks off downstairs alone. He drapes himself in a woman’s scarf, and smiles as he sees his reflection in a mirror. Moments later, his mother and his grandmother catch him dancing dressed up. The music track stops, and the women stare at the boy. A few seconds of dread pass by and suddenly the women join him. This advertisement by FCB India and UNAIDS highlighted how gender diversity is not a lifestyle choice but an inherent right of all people. Gender stereotypes, especially towards LGBTIQ+, lead to stigma and discrimination. This is more pronounced in children and adolescents as diversity among them is not commonly understood and society puts massive pressure on them to conform to assigned gender norms at birth. <div type="Youtube" id="oulxCQeZtDo" title="The Mirror" thumbUrl="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/oulxCQeZtDo/mqdefault.jpg"></div> Bhima’s Pure as Love | Agency: Animal Bhima Jewellery's ad shows us the journey of a brooding, unshaven boy who, thanks to the love and support of his loving, supportive family, transforms into a happy, confident young woman. The story is told with such simplicity and so much sensitivity that you rejoice with the character by the end of the film. What works in favor of the brand is, its inclusion in the story doesn’t feel forced. It is just seamlessly a part of the narrative. The young man is slowly growing more accepting towards himself, there is a lot of acceptance from everyone around him too. The film is full of love and the jewellery is just a part of the narrative. It is present, almost in every frame, but never the main focus. <div type="Youtube" id="NtaLr_r8R2E" title="Bhima Jewellery. Because for the rest of the year, we get busy dis-empowering her. How this biased narrative is maintained is through words. Cruel words, words aimed to put you in boxes, words to shame, words to make sure you never ever discover your true power within. When even one woman, refuses to succumb to this narrative, the swords and the pitchforks come out. Because you see, one woman freeing herself from the narrative, can inspire millions to break free, refuse to be cowed down and write their own story. This campaign celebrates women and the power they find within themselves to fight for a seat at the table and hopes for a better future for them. <div type="javascript" title="Instagram" contenttype="Video"><cdata><![CDATA[ ]]></cdata></div> Mohey’s Kanyamaan In India, weddings are all about rituals and traditions that bring about a happy union. These age-old Hindu rituals have been an intrinsic part of our society and one of the most important being ‘Kanyadaan.’ Questioning this outdate practice, Alia Bhatt and Mohey’s ad aimed to promote a more inclusive and equal space for women in marriage and in life. It strives for a balance between tradition and equality. Through the film, Alia talks about a new idea that creates a union between the ritual itself and its underlying thought process placed in modern context. However, the campaign did not well with social media trolls. They called for a boycott on the brand for targeting Hindu religion but the brand did not bow down. The girl immediately offers to ‘help’ him with dishes, gently nudging him to be independent in household chores as well, as she could get late from work. The boy’s initial shock and eventual change of perspective drives home the campaign message of ‘Nazariya Badlo, Dekho Bartano Se Aage’. It portrays the husband as the one who is concerned about the stress his wife goes through at work and its impact on her heart. While he cannot take away her stress, no matter how much he would like to, he does what’s in his control to take care of her heart.
