New Delhi, Apr 4 () State-owned Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) has contributed Rs 5.65 crore to the PM-CARES Fund for tackling the coronavirus outbreak. CWC, a public sector unit (PSU) under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food &amp; Public Distribution, has "contributed Rs 565.42 lakh (Rs 500 lakhs from CSR fund and employees' voluntarily contribution of one day salary, Rs.65.42 lakhs) to the PM CARES Fund", it said in a statement. CWC has also deferred the storage tariff revision by three months till June to provide economic relief to its depositors, who are suffering from the financial stress caused by Covid-19. "In the process, CWC will bear the financial impact of about Rs 7.50 crores on this account," it added. CWC has kept its central warehouses open for distribution of foodgrain and other essential commodities, at about 400 locations across India. During 10 days of Covid-19 lockdown, CWC has handled 161 rakes in 11 states and 6.51 lakh tonnes of foodgrains via the Public Distribution System (PDS). MJH ABMABM

One of his pictures with Hardik Pandya was noticed by Heyman because of his caption that was much similar to Brock Lesnar’s famous war cry. Heyman took to twitter, to correct the phrase and wrote a hilarious warning in his post. The phrase, “Eat, Sleep, Conquer, Repeat” was used by Lesnar every time he entered the ring. It was also written over his T-shirt. It became very popular after Lesnar decided to quit the wrestling world and move on to a career in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Several fans are speculating a fight between Brock Lesnar and Ranveer in the coming future. Interestingly, this is not the first time that Heyman has pointed out a breach of the Copyright Act. Previously, Heyman wittily sought royalty from Cricket World Cup (CWC) for paraphrasing Brock Lesnar’s war cry. The fundraiser took place at Ellison's restaurant Nikita, located on Malibu's ritzy Carbon Beach, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/larry-ellison-real-estate-2014-3">where Ellison also owns 10 oceanfront homes</a>. A number of celebrities were in attendance, including Bradley Cooper and Kathryn Bigelow.
The event ultimately raised $600,000, which the CWC will use towards opening a new facility and surgery center.

Maharashtra is in deep crisis. The elixir of life, Water, is missing from the state. Drought-hit Maharashtra is facing one of the biggest water crises in decades. 
 
The drought in Maharashtra is amplifying as days are passing by. The water in reservoirs of the state are not enough to meet the demands of parched people of the state as 17 huge reservoirs of Maharashtra are left with just 2 billion cubic metres (bcm) of water against the requirement of 45 bcm. 
 
As per the Central Water Commission (CWC), water levels in Maharashtra’s reservoirs were slightly over 30% of their full capacities in January, imagine what would be the situation now with no rainfall expected for 2 more months. 
 
The CWC has stated that between January and now, water levels in all 91 big reservoirs in the country, including Maharashtra, almost halved from a cumulative 44% of capacity to 23%. The reservoirs now together hold about 36 bcm vis-a-vis their total capacity of about 158 bcm. 
 
Moreover, only 3% water is left in dams in the Marathwada region. 
 
Eight of the region’s 11 major dams are at dead storage level, meaning water from these dams cannot flow out and has to be lifted. 
 
The situation is becoming tense as an 11-year-old girl died of heatstroke while collecting water from a village pump.

An extended period of insufficient rains has led to an alarming water situation in many parts of the country. Two consecutive monsoon failures could also be a reason why the water situation has gone this disturbing. This has also forced the state governments to take some strict and required actions to tackle the alarming situation of water crisis. 
 
The delayed rains have already hurt hydropower generation, which would result in the delay of planting pulses, cotton, paddy and millets in western and southern states. In these states, water level has fallen drastically, a situation better in northern India where some reservoirs are still in a better position. 
 
"The situation is alarming as of now. We will soon be sending advisories to state governments for judicious use of water from reservoirs. Better planning can rescue states in the next few months if rains are delayed or not widespread," GS Jha, chairman of Central Water Commission told ET. CWC is the authority responsible for monitoring the country's water situation by keeping a watch on 91 major reservoirs that feed hydropower plants and irrigate fields. It also advises the central and state governments on how they should use water for drinking, irrigation and industrial use. 
 
While rainfall received in January and February was lowest in five years, March received 13% above average rainfall, but even then, it had been insufficient to make a difference to the reservoirs. 
 
As of March 23, these 91 major reservoirs held 41.643 billion cubic metres (bcm) of water, which is 31% less than 60.015 bcm at this time in 2015, as per data from CWC.

"Virat was so laser focused, expecting more fireworks from him": AB de Villiers

On August 21st, 2013, the regime of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad committed one of the most shocking war crimes of the 21st century, gassing nearly 1,500 people to death in Ghouta, outside of Damascus. Assad's regime, which faced pockets of significant rebel resistance throughout western Syria and inside the capital, soon faced the prospect of imminent U.S. military strikes: days after the Ghouta attack, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/wp/2013/08/26/read-the-full-transcript-kerrys-speech-on-syria-chemical-weapons-and-the-need-to-respond/">all but promised</a> swift retribution for the chemical massacre.
But Assad's criminality paid off. Today, regime forces are <a href="http://online.wsj.com/articles/syrian-forces-advance-on-aleppo-rebels-fear-another-siege-1407860811">closing in on Aleppo</a>, Syria's largest city and one of the secular revolutionaries' last remaining strongholds. Assad warmed as early as 2011 that his government was a bulwark against Islamist extremists threatening to unseat him; three years of killing have turned that false choice into a reality.

Today, it's clear that Assad gained from the attack, which proved that the international community wasn't prepared to go after him even after a serious breach in international law, and that their only alternative was to adjust to the reality of his likely long-term survival.
Although the Ghouta attacks seemed to obligate U.S. action under President Barack Obama's chemical weapons "red line," there were early signs that Obama did not want to obligate himself to carrying out military strikes.
On August 31, Obama laid out the case that punishing Assad for his violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) was a vital national interest - but then <a href="http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2013/08/31/statement-president-syria">left the use of force to a Congressional vote</a> without calling for an emergency session of the body, which was then in an August recess.
On September 9, Kerry <a href="http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2013/09/09/syria_chemical_weapons_did_john_kerry_just_accidentally_find_a_workable.html">suggested</a> that Assad could simply give up his chemical weapons and join the CWC in order to resolve the crisis. This is exactly what ended up happening. With the oversight of Assad's allies in Moscow - a government <a href="http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/212108.pdf">with its own patchy record of semi-compliance with the CWC</a> - Assad eventually disposed of 1,200 tons of chemical agents without a single U.S. tomahwak missile being fired.
But there were still costs. Practically, the deal required formal cooperation between the U.S. and the Middle East's most violent, destabilizing, and isolated regime. The deal had some immediate consequences on the ground as well. As journalist Michael Weiss noted in January of 2014, Assad waged a scorched-earth <a href="http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/01/how-obamas-syria-policy-fell-apart-101704_Page5.html#.U_Y3Z61g5vk">campaign in order to clear the Damascus-to-Homs highway</a> for the delivery of the weapons for eventual disposal, using the deal as cover for an increasingly brutal campaign against his opponents.
And Assad didn't get bombed by the most powerful military on earth, or suffer any punishment or loss in status for his criminality.
The consequences of a U.S. attack against Assad is now a matter of speculation. They might have acted as a much-needed force multiplier for the beleaguered Free Syrian Army, which was fighting both ISIS and the Assad regime and was in a much stronger position than it is currently. A blow to a leading Iranian ally like Assad might have forced Tehran to redouble its efforts on propping the regime in Damascus - leaving it less capable of pursuing its disastrous and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/problem-with-a-us-iran-alliance-in-iraq-2014-6">meddlesome</a> policies in neighboring Iraq. 
Airstrikes would have precluded a chemical weapons deal that turned Russia and Assad into the U.S.'s de facto security partners. Without the deal, Assad would never have been congratulated for his good citizenship while bombing his opponents into submission while still <a href="http://online.wsj.com/articles/syrias-chemical-disarmament-mirage-1408489677">retaining the infrastructure needed to re-start chemical weapons production</a> if the tide of the conflict ever turned. 
Nearly all of Assad's calculations have paid off over the past year. His regime has beat a tactical retreat to Syria's urban and coastal northwest, home to most of the country's critical infrastructure and population centers. Jihadist groups <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/10585391/Syrias-Assad-accused-of-boosting-al-Qaeda-with-secret-oil-deals.html">oversee the country's gas and oil fields</a> and ensure that the secular rebels - who Assad has always considered his real enemies - are squeezed from both east and west.

And the chemical weapons deal removed the international community's main point of contention with Assad's government, namely his continued violation of the CWC - never mind that there's <a href="http://www.hrw.org/news/2014/05/13/syria-strong-evidence-government-used-chemicals-weapon">credible evidence of regime violations</a> as recently as this past May.
The deal - and the attack that precipitated it - gave Assad the freedom and global legitimacy to win his country's civil war.
A year after one of the ghastliest war crimes in recent decades, Assad is even looking at how to use the ISIS threat to win Western countries back to his side, and may even find <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com/rosiegray/washington-foreign-policy-hands-make-the-case-for-the-unthin?utm_term=ae5w95#3s40fha">willing partners</a> in the U.S. foreign policy establishment.
The cost of Assad's strategy has been high: 9 million refugees, 180,000 dead, repeated uses of chemical weapons, and the creation of a war zone stretching from the Mediterranean to the Persian Gulf. 
But it's working.

The attack left some 1,400 people dead.In August of 2014, the Obama administration declared that Syria's chemical stockpile had been destroyed, a development that President Barack Obama said "advances our collective goal to ensure that the Assad regime cannot use its chemical arsenal against the Syrian people," <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/checkpoint/wp/2014/08/18/declared-syrian-chemical-weapon-stockpile-now-completely-destroyed/">according to The Washington Post</a>.But Clapper complicated this premise in a single, brief paragraph."We assess that Syria has not declared all the elements of its chemical-weapons program to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC)," Clapper <a href="http://www.dni.gov/files/documents/SASC_Unclassified_2016_ATA_SFR_FINAL.pdf">said in his congressional testimony</a>. "Despite the creation of a specialized team and months of work by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to address gaps and inconsistencies in Syria's declaration, numerous issues remain unresolved."Syria has carried out chemical weapons attacks even after the implementation of the September 2013 agreement, he said."We continue to judge that the Syrian regime has used chemicals as a means of warfare since accession to the CWC in 2013," Clapper said.He noted OPCW investigators' conclusion that "chlorine had been used on Syrian opposition forces in multiple incidents in 2014 and 2015." The regime was still dropping chlorine bombs from the air. And it's long been clear that at least some of Syria's chemical-weapons infrastructure remained in place past mid-2014. According to a July 2015 Wall Street Journal report, US intelligence agencies "concluded that the regime didn't give up all of the chemical weapons it was supposed to," while Assad "continu[ed] to operate weapons-research facilities." Clapper's statement is a straightforward acknowledgment that the chemical-weapons deal didn't fully accomplish its purpose. The Assad regime did join the CWC, and give up the entirety of its known chemical weapons stockpile. It is unclear how much money the firm manages, but <a href="http://nordic.businessinsider.com/hedge-fund-launch-list-2016-2016-7/">Business Insider reported</a> earlier this year that the firm was aiming to raise about $100 million, and planned to run that capital for about half a year before taking in new investors.
