Honda Elevate to take on the Hyundai Creta and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in India

Japanese auto major <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> is recalling 3,879 units of a particular variant of its popular sedan City in India which were manufactured from February-November 2014 to update a software for transmission system as part of a global exercise. The company's Indian arm, Honda Cars India Ltd (<keyword id="692887" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="HCIL">HCIL</keyword>) said the <keyword id="3111298" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="CVT-variants">CVT variants</keyword> of <keyword id="31353" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Honda-city">Honda City</keyword> produced during the period are being recalled to update the software that manages the continuously variable transmission (CVT). The control software will be updated to optimise the <keyword id="697070" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="hydraulic-pressure">hydraulic pressure</keyword> applied to the CVT, it added. 

	"The software will be updated free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India from October 24, 2015 and the company will communicate with customers directly," HCIL said in a statement.
 

	Customers can check whether their car is covered under this campaign by submitting their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite which has been created on the company's website, it added.
 

	Last month, HCIL recalled around 2.24 lakh units of its premium sports utility vehicles -- CR-V, sedans Civic, City and hatchback Jazz manufactured between 2003 and 2012 -- to replace faulty airbag inflators in the largest such exercise in the country.
 

	Automobile manufacturers in India have been recalling vehicles on safety issues since industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) initiated a voluntary policy in July 2012.
 

	A total of 13.28 lakh vehicles have been recalled so far in India by various companies ever since it started.

Nissan India to increase prices of all models for Nissan and Datsun from April 1

The Scorpio has been around for eons, introduced to take the premium SUV journey further for M&amp;M from the <keyword id="6422107" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="mahindra-bolero">Mahindra Bolero</keyword>. It pretty much ruled the roost when it was launched, and the sole competition was in the form of the <keyword id="595044" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-safari">Tata Safari</keyword>. RIDE &amp; HANDLING The previous generation Scorpios were renowned for their ruggedness but they also were infamous in the ride and handling department. However, the Scorpio has progressed significantly since its inception decades ago and the ride and handling too have improved by leaps and bounds. That being said, the Renault Duster is still a tad better with the way it rides and the handling too seems to be slightly better than the Mahindra. It handles sudden directional changes far better than the much-heavier Scorpio and also carries its weight much lower than the Mahindra. STYLING Aesthetically, the new Scorpio has an uncanny resemblance to its predecessors. The A-pillars are near-vertical to give it a taller, more imposing demeanor while the Duster’s A-pillars swoop much lower, lending the Renault a sportier silhouette. The taller stance of the Scorpio gives the driver a more commanding view of the road than the Duster. The flavor of the season seems to be chrome embellishments, and both the Scorpio and the Duster get plenty of the shiny stuff around the grill area, enough to satiate customers who love bling. These aren’t optional, unfortunately, and come pre-fitted from the factory in the top range variants of both marques. Although the Baleno hatch was initially launched with a diesel engine as an option, as of now, one can only choose between the 1.2 litre VVT engine and the 1.2 litre Dualjet Dual VVT motor, both of which will drink anything as long as it is petrol. Depending on which model you go for, the engine gets bolted on to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT. Once you close the bonnet and step back, you will at once feel that Maruti Suzuki’s HR manager has done a mighty fine job with regard to finding the right designer for the car’s aesthetics. The Baleno’s lines are simple, yet well defined. The surfaces are elegant and devoid of any superfluous slashes that seem to be the flavour of the season these days and the gentle contours in the right areas define the overall stance of the car. After admiring the exteriors, it is time to sample the car from within. The interiors aren’t exactly class leading but they are well appointed and seem to be of decent build quality that will age gracefully. The cabin space is ample for a family of four but if the 5th occupant is somebody other than a child, then the rear seat would seem cramped. On the go, the Baleno is a typical Maruti, and that is a good thing. The car is smooth and refined and will handle almost everything the road throws at it. Stomp on the accelerator and the engine revs up in no time, feeling almost motorcycle-like. Keep the engine buzzing and you’re in for the time of your life whilst chasing corners along an empty mountain road. Of course, this sort of spirited driving is best sampled with the short throw gear shift lever and the clutch pedal of the manual transmission which go a long way in enhancing the thrill of the experience. In the city, however, the effortlessness, convenience and smooth shifting of the CVT is where the joy is to be found. The Baleno’s ride quality is pliant and tackles road undulations with great aplomb. The handling is adequate and on par with the competition, but when you push this Suzuki hard, the tyres will make it ample clear when they’re reaching their limit. All in, the Baleno is a solid buy for all those who want the practicality, solid reliability and low cost of ownership that has come to be synonymous with the Maruti Suzuki marque; but with elegant design, a comfortable cabin and sprightly performance thrown in as well.

New Delhi, Jul 15 () Japanese auto major Honda on Wednesday launched the new version of its mid-sized sedan City in India priced between Rs 10.9 lakh-Rs 14.65 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The fifth generation version of the popular model, which in its current form is longer and wider than the fourth generation City, comes with BS-VI compliant petrol and diesel powertrains. The 1.5-litre petrol versions with manual transmission are priced at Rs 10.9 lakh, Rs 12.26 lakh, and Rs 13.15 lakh, while the 1.5-litre diesel trims are tagged at Rs 12.40, Rs 13.76 lakh, and Rs 14.65 lakh. The 1.5-litre petrol automatic trims (CVT) on the other hand are priced at Rs 12.20 lakh, Rs 13.56 lakh and, Rs 14.45 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). The model, which will compete with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Skoda Rapid, now features smart devices ecosystem including Alexa remote capability and 32 connected features as standard feature across all variants with a five-year free subscription. The company said it will also continue to sell the BS-VI compliant fourth generation City along with the new version. "City is synonymous with Honda brand in India. It is the most important model for us," Honda Motor India Ltd (HCIL) President and CEO Gaku Nakanishi told . Being a pillar of the company's business in India for the last 22 years, the company expects the new City to bring in more volumes as compared to the last versions, he added. The company has sold 40 lakh City units cumulatively across the globe till date with around 8 lakh units in India. Each generation of the City has raised the bar on design, technology, quality, driving pleasure, comfort and safety, and has come with several industry firsts or segment first features, Nakanishi said. "Our vision has been to offer our customers with a new value that is unprecedented in the history of City and we are confident that the All New City will create fresh excitement in the mid-size sedan segment," he added. Besides domestic market the company is also looking to enhance exports of the City to new markets, including left-hand car regions. "Regarding City, we are looking at expanding the export volume. We are looking to more than doubling the overseas shipments," Nakanishi said. In 2019-20, the company exported around 3,800 units from India mainly to South Africa and some neighbouring countries. Elaborating further HCIL Senior Vice President and Director Sales and Marketing Rajesh Goel said the exports will begin later this year and new destinations will be covered with the new City. "We can't disclose the export markets right now as all have their own launch plans. What we can tell that is that we are also going to start the export of left-hand cars," he noted. Commenting on the domestic market, Goel said: "We know SUV segment is growing here but with Civic we saw that it revitalised the segment in which it is offered, sales jumped. So, we are hoping that with City we will achieve similar results in the mid sized sedan segment". When asked about the logic of continuing the sales of fourth generation City with with the new version, Goel said the earlier version is also BS-VI compliant and has contemporary design language. "We want to give broader choice to customers," he noted. The BS-VI petrol trims of the fourth generation City are priced between Rs 9.91 lakh-Rs 14.31 lakh. Goel said the new City could be produced at both its Greater Noida and Tapukara (Rajasthan) plants and is currently being rolled-out of the former. "Later, we can also roll it out from the Tapukara facility," he said. The new City has been developed at Honda R&amp;D Centre located in Tochigi, Japan, following extensive market surveys in India, ASEAN countries and other markets for peoples driving needs and lifestyles. The company said the sedan now comes with ASEAN N-CAP 5 Star equivalent safety rating and many first in class segment features like full LED headlamps, 17.7 cm HD full color TFT meter with G-meter, lane watch camera, vehicle stability assist (VSA) with agile handling assist (AHA) among others. The petrol variants of the new City will come with 1.5-litre powertrain mated with six speed manual and seven speed continuously variable transmission (CVT). The manual trims will return fuel efficiency of 17.8 km/litre while the CVT trims will deliver 18.4 km/litre, the company claimed. The diesel trims, which will come with 1.5-litre engine mated to a six speed manual transmission, will deliver fuel efficiency of 24.1 km/litre, it added. Honda said the vehicle will come with 20.3 cm touchscreen display audio system with smartphone connectivity, sunroof, six airbags, multi-angle rear camera, tyre pressure monitoring system, among others. HCIL said it will start deliveries of the petrol variants of the model immediately across the country while the deliveries for the diesel variants would begin from next month. The fifth generation City, which is set to be launched next month, will come with BS-VI compliant petrol and diesel powertrains, the auto major said in a statement. "The fifth generation Honda City embodies supremacy in its every detail, ranging from its styling, performance, space, comfort, connectivity and safety," Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) said. In an industry first move and in line with increasing usage trend of smart devices ecosystem, City is India's first connected car with Alexa remote capability, it added. The Japanese automaker said the new model adheres to ASEAN N-CAP five-star safety rating equivalent. The petrol variants of the new City will come with 1.5-litre powertrain mated with six speed manual and seven speed continuously variable transmission (CVT). The manual trims will return fuel efficiency of 17.8 km/litre while the CVT trims will deliver 18.4 km/litre, the company claimed. The diesel trims, which will come with 1.5-litre engine mated to a six speed manual transmission, will deliver fuel efficiency of 24.1 km/litre, it added. The company said the model will be wider and longest in its segment. New Delhi, Jan 29 () Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) on Wednesday rolled out BSVI compliant version of its entry-level compact sedan Amaze priced between Rs 6.09 lakh and Rs 9.55 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
 The 1.2 litre petrol variants of the model are priced between Rs 6.09 lakh and Rs 8.75 lakh, while the 1.5 litre diesel trims are tagged between Rs 7.55 lakh and Rs 9.95 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).
 "Honda is committed to bring its latest and advanced environment friendly technologies to the Indian market and we have introduced BSVI version of our largest-selling model Honda Amaze," HCIL Vice President and Director, Marketing and Sales, Rajesh Goel said in a statement.
 The sedan will be the company's first BSVI diesel model in India, he added.
 Honda has applied its advanced exhaust gas after-treatment system with NSC (NOx Storage Catalyst) and DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) to meet the challenging target of particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission in case of diesel engines, Goel said.
 The petrol trims come with BSVI compliant 1.2 litre petrol engine mated with both manual and continuously variable transmissions (CVTs).
 The petrol manual trims come with a fuel efficiency of 18.6 km per litre while the CVT variants come with 18.3 km per litre fuel efficiency, HCIL said.
 The manual diesel trims are tuned to deliver fuel efficiency of 24.7 km per litre while the CVT variants come with a fuel economy of 21 km per litre, it added.
 "From now, we will progressively shift towards BSVI changeover for all our model range by end of this fiscal," Goel said when asked about company's plans to transition its portfolio to comply with stricter emission norms.
 He said that the company has already finished despatches of BSIV models by December-end and all the stock in the pipeline, including in the network, is expected to get over by the end of this month.
 "There could be few units here and there but it is going to be miniscule," he said.
 Goel said the company decided to cut production of BSVI models in September last year when the market was reeling under severe slowdown.
 "We decided at a time when the market was in a free fall in September to take this hit in terms of reduction in production and supplies to de-risk the business for ourselves as well as our network to avoid the risk of extremely high discounting and also the risk of leftover stock if any," he noted.
 Goel said the initiative to reduce BSIV production has impacted the company in terms of reduced sales volume in the near future.
 "It (production cut) has not come without cost. Because of this our January and February numbers will be significantly lower as compared with last year," he said.
 The company will take another couple of months to start ramping up production, Goel said.
 "In the next fiscal, our intent is to grow as compared to whatever we do this year," he noted. MSS ANS

The premium hatch segment in India is ablaze with competition. Competing with the likes of the <a href="https://www.carandbike.com/maruti-suzuki-cars/baleno" data-type="tilCustomLink">Maruti Baleno</a> and the <keyword id="7364349" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-altroz">Tata Altroz</keyword>, the <keyword id="6423740" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="i20">i20</keyword> is <keyword id="596" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword>’s player in the market. Ex-showroom, the <keyword id="180773" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-i20">Hyundai i20</keyword> is priced between Rs. 6.8 lakh and goes up to Rs. 11.18 lakh. Engine options for the current avatar of the i20 include a 1 litre turbo petrol, a 1.2 litre petrol and a 1.5 litre diesel engine. Of the lot, the 1 litre turbo petrol is the bomb, which is no surprise really. This bundle of explosive internal combustion energy is good for a blistering 119 bhp, which is plenty for a car of this size. The <a href="https://www.carandbike.com/hyundai-cars/elite-i20" data-type="tilCustomLink">Hyundai i20</a> has a wide range of transmissions to choose from as well. Depending on the variant, gearboxes include a 5-speed <keyword id="6488311" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="manual">manual</keyword>, a CVT, a 6-speed iMT, a 7-speed dual clutch transmission and a 6-speed manual. On the outside, the i20 boasts of what Hyundai describes as a ‘sensuous sporty design’. To the lay man, that translates as a judicious mix of slashes and angular accents all across the body line to result in a very sharp, modern looking hatch. Step inside and the sporty theme carries on. Black interiors merge with tastefully applied coloured inserts. Sitting behind the steering wheel – which can be wrapped in leather as an optional extra – is a rather large digital cluster for the driver, which displays engine revs, speed, fuel range, tyre pressures and the like. The interiors seem to cocoon you within them, but for taller occupants however, could feel a bit lacking when it comes to headroom. In the driver’s seat and behind the wheel, the 1 litre turbo petrol is the most exciting of the lot. It shines brightest when coupled to the iMT, because with the DCT, there is some lag felt at lower revs. With the manual transmission, don’t be surprised if you get tempted to stomp the throttle all the way to the firewall every time when starting off at a signal. And yes, succumbing to that temptation is so very addictive! The i20 carves corners like a knife cutting through butter. But surprisingly, despite its rather sporty aspirations, the ride quality is quite good. Only the worst potholes overwhelm the i20’s suspension, but then again, those craters can make SUVs tremble! The i20 has gone through several changes through the years, and it safe to say that with every evolution, it has only got better. The current version is the best there ever has been and this proves that sometimes, even perfection can improve.

On Thursday, Japanese car maker <keyword id="1381889" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Honda-Cars-India">Honda Cars India</keyword> announced a <keyword id="54643" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="recall">recall</keyword> of 64,428 units of diesel variants of Honda City manufactured from December 2013 to July 2015 and 25,782 units of diesel variants of Honda Mobilio manufactured from June 2014 to July 2015 to voluntary replace the Fuel Return Pipe of these vehicles. 
 
With this recall of Honda, the recalls in India have crossed 1.7 million units ever since the government came out with the voluntary recall scheme a few years back 
 There is a possibility that in some of these cars, the Fuel Return Pipe may come out, resulting in fuel leakage and leading to engine stoppage, <keyword id="6374147" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Honda-Cars">Honda Cars</keyword> India said in a statement. 
 
The Fuel Return Pipe and related parts will be replaced free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India from 19th December 2015 in a phased manner and the owners will be contacted individually. 
 
The customers alternatively can also check whether their car is covered under this campaign by submitting their 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special micro site which has been created on the company's website. 
 
This is Honda Cars India's fourth recall in 2015, taking the overall recall numbers to 3.3 lakh units. ' 
 
Apart from the current recall of over 90,000 units, The company had recalled 3879 units of CVT variant of Honda City to update CVT control software in October. There was a recall of 223,578 units to replace air bag inflators in September of 2015 in CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz and in May 2015 -- Honda Cars India had recalled 575 units of CRV and 10,805 units of Accord to replace air bag inflators.

It was a refreshing return to form for the Civic after the steady selling, but critically panned, 9th-generation model. Last year, Honda sold nearly 367,000 10th-gen Civics in the US - making it the second-best-selling car in the country. And for good reason- it's comfortable, roomy, loaded with tech, and incredibly fuel efficient. In fact, a few of my friends were among those who bought new Civics last year and are absolutely head-over-heels in love with their cars. However, I for one, was never truly smitten with the new model. Perhaps its the lackadaisical continuously variable transmission (CVT) that muffles any and all dynamism from the driving experience or the infuriatingly ill-conceived infotainment system or even the oddly proportioned rear end styling. You see, when it comes to Civics, I'm a traditionalist. "Baleno is a real global model to satisfy our customers not only in India but also across global markets," said MSI Managing Director and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa, adding “the model comes with sophisticated design and advanced technology.” 
 
MSI and its supplier partners have raked in Rs 1,060 crore in Baleno’s development. 
 
Around 5-5.3 lakh compact segment cars are sold every year in India. 
 
Maruti Suzuki plans to launch several models this fiscal and has set a target of achieving two million sales annually by 2020.

Maruti Suzuki launches the Baleno, its most ambitious yet at Rs 4.99 lakh

India's <keyword id="1647723" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="premium-hatchback">premium hatchback</keyword> segment is getting increasingly popular, thanks to the salaried middle class who prefer its features and the convenience it offers in terms of city drivability. The launch of the new <keyword id="45915" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Honda-Jazz">Honda Jazz</keyword> today has further fleshed out. 
 While players like Volkswagen Polo and Punto Evo populate the market, the segment leader has been <keyword id="2452931" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Hyundai-Elite-i20">Hyundai Elite i20</keyword>. What more, the Korean motor company is expected to fit its new touch-screen multimedia system on the Elite i20 to make it a sweeter deal. While the Jazz had impressed Indian auto lovers, its only drawback was that it was available with a petrol engine. Now that it has a diesel variant, the scuffle for your attention just got bloodier. Sit back and enjoy the match. 
 
Engine: 
The Honda Jazz now offers a meatier 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel variant that churns out 100PS of power and 200Nm torque. There is also the 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine. Yeah, the same that is at the core of the Amaze and Brio. It generates 90bhp and 110Nm of torque at 4,800rpm. 
The Elite i20 also offers two options. Its 1.2 Kappa Petrol offers 83PS power and 114 Nm of torque. The 1.4 litre CRDi diesel comes with 90PS of power and 220 Nm peak torque. 
 
Features: 
The top variant of the new Jazz boasts of a 6” touch screen infotainment system, complete with navigation, Bluetooth, AUX and USB. Add to that a reverse parking camera, touch-screen climate control, and a height adjustable driver seat. There is also ABS and front airbags. What is lacks is keyless entry and a push button start. 
 
The Hyundai scores where the Jazz misses. It gets reversing parking camera with sensors, push button start and keyless go. However, the navigation and touch-screen climate control would be missed. 
 
Fuel Efficiency: 
While the petrol Elite i20 gives a mileage of 18.24 kmpl, the new Honda Jazz is tuned to give a mileage of 19.0kmpl. The diesel variant of Elite i20 claims to deliver 21.76 kmpl, whereas the diesel Jazz promises a mileage of 27.3kmpl. 
 
The New Jazz has upped the level with its fuel efficiency figures. It has claimed an overall 27.3kmpl, with the petrol returning 18.7kmpl and the CVT bettering it ever so slightly at 19kmpl. The Elite i20 was never quite efficient. It claims 22.54kmpl and18.6kmpl for diesel and petrol respectively. The Jazz has a clear advantage here in terms of numbers. 
 
Price: 
The new Jazz is priced between Rs. 5.3-7.85 lakhs for the petrol and Rs. 6.49-8.59 lakhs for the diesel variants. It is up against the Elite’s numbers that start at Rs 5.30 lakhs and peak at 8.05 lakhs.
