Chennai, Apr 28 (): The Consortium of Indian PetroleumDealers have for the second time written to the three majoroil companies, seeking a stimulus financial package, saying itis very challenging to operate as fuel sales have dropped morethan 10 per cent from normal due to the COVID-19 outbreak.<p>CIPD President M Narayana Prasad said the Oil MarketingCompanies HPCL, IOCL, BPCL had neglected to revise the dealermargins since August 2017 which subsequently led to retailoutlet operations becoming 'exceptionally challenging'.</p><p>CIPD had already written a similar letter to the OMCs onApril 11.</p><p>While salaries and operational costs for the quarterending March 2020 amid the difficulties emerged due to thecoronavirus outbreak, "the sales of motor spirit and highspeed diesel have dipped no more than an average of 10 percent of normal sale,"  Prasad said.</p><p>The financial challenges faced by retail outlets inabsence of sales volume have rendered operations 'unviable'since dealer margins were based on volumetric liter sales, hesaid.</p><p>Noting that the retail outlets have taken up variousmeasures in keeping the surroundings clean and hygiene as partof the measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, he saidexpenses also need to be 'immediately re compensated'.</p><p>A further delay in release of a stimulus financialpackage would render future operations to miserably fail andcollapse, he said.</p><p>"In the absence of liquidity and funds to keep retailoutlets operational from May 2020 or until the completelifting of lock-down period, daily funds have dried up fromthe last quarter of March 2020 till date without the muchneeded relief forthcoming from oil marketing companies", hesaid.</p>In Tamil Nadu, all fuel outlets have been directed tooperate between 8 AM and 12 noon due to the lockdown in force. Petrol pumps may observe nationwide strike on Nov 15th, here’s why

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The pandemic shifted attitudes toward sick leave, emphasizing health and mental well-being.</li><li>BI spoke to two HR experts on how sick leave habits have changed.</li></ul><p>Americans are well-known for being hard workers. The midday siestas and monthlong vacations so beloved in Europe don't cut it with bosses stateside.</p><p>According to the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bls.gov/ebs/latest-numbers.htm">US Bureau of Labor Statistics</a>, nearly one in four US workers isn't entitled to a paid sick day. But despite their industrious reputation, there is evidence that the predominantly white-collar Americans who do receive PTO <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-sick-leave-pto-mental-health-work-from-home-2024-8">are taking more sick leave</a> than ever before.</p><p>HR platforms <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-sick-leave-pto-mental-health-work-from-home-2024-8">Dayforce and Gusto, for example,</a> have both reported a jump in the amount of sick leave people are taking, based on companies they surveyed.</p><p>The pandemic changed workers' <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/paid-sick-leave-coronavirus-states-barred-local-governments-prevent-spread-2020-3">attitudes to sick leave</a>, raising awareness about the importance of staying home to avoid infecting coworkers and the need to care for mental health.</p><p>But human resources experts also say there's another major shift affecting attitudes to sick leave: the arrival of Gen Z in the office.</p><p>Rue Dooley, HR knowledge advisor at the Society for Human Resource Management and a Gen Xer, said that his generation had been socialized and conditioned for decades to think that the more you work, the better you are as a human.</p><p>"That behavior doesn't change overnight," said Dooley. "But Gen Z has a different way of thinking and communicating."</p><div type="image" title="Low angle view of three people using their mobiles." height="1500" width="2000" msid="113168696" hostid="261" sizebytes="198804"></div><p>The young workers Dooley speaks to feel entitled to sick leave as if it's a cultural norm. Their ideas are having an impact because the generational differences<strong> </strong>between Gen Z and millennials are far greater than they usually are between generations, he said.</p><p>"Younger workers are behaving in such a way that it is an entitlement. I should get time off when I need it without having to get special permission or feeling judged or condemned."</p><p>Improved technology and connectivity also make their demands more feasible — they can be online anywhere and anytime. The downside is that the boundaries around work are blurring, Dooley added.</p><p>"But if you are strategic, conscientious, and you have access, you can be much more efficient, and you can have this work-life balance," he said. And if employers don't give in to it, the labor market won't respond favorably to them.</p><h2 id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">Pressure to keep working</h2><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">In the UK, where legislation has entitled all workers to sick pay since 1983, the issue of sick leave isn't as pertinent. But that doesn't mean it's not changed since the pandemic.</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">Some data shows that the Brits are taking more time off — the average number of days British workers took off for sick leave increased from 5.8 days in 2019 to 7.8 days in 2023,<strong> </strong>according to UK-based HR body the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.cipd.org/uk/views-and-insights/thought-leadership/cipd-voice/sickness-absence-rate-jumps/">Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development</a> (CIPD).</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">But Cary Cooper, a professor of organizational psychology at the University of Manchester in the UK said the numbers don't reflect the full picture.</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">That's because <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/resenteeism-quiet-quitting-recession-jobs-inflation-labor-shortage-2023-2">presenteeism</a>, where employees log on but cannot function well, is also increasing, said Cooper, recently president of the CIPD.</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">"People that abuse the system are very small, and with jobs so insecure at the moment, they want to work and deliver for their bosses," said Cooper.</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">Hybrid workers feel pressure to be seen as reliable. So, where a common cold may have previously stopped them from commuting to the office, they now feel they can log on from home and work through their symptoms.</p><div type="image" title="Roughly ten passengers sit in the carriage of a London tube." height="683" width="1024" msid="113168697" hostid="261" sizebytes="69050"></div><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">That's an advantage for minor ailments where you can answer a few emails and avoid falling behind, but where serious mental health concerns or exhaustion from illness builds up, the autonomy that hybrid work provides workers is detrimental, he said.</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">"If you're very poorly, I don't think people should be working. Even if they can do a few emails here and there, you really need recuperation."</p><h2 id="25ad47fe-a582-4d1f-b99f-f82ce8a1f008">How to treat a sick employee</h2><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">Though some evidence suggests US workers are taking more sick days, they are hardly becoming slackers — a 2023 <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/08/10/more-than-4-in-10-u-s-workers-dont-take-all-their-paid-time-off/">Pew Research</a> survey of nearly 6,000 workers who are offered PTO found that 46% didn't take all that was owed to them.</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">Both Dooley and Cooper said that the responsibility for finding a balance around sick leave lies with managers.</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">"True leaders grasp that in terms of productivity, it's better in the long term to allow people that time for their well-being over short-term productivity," said Dooley.</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">However, the issue here, Cooper pointed out, is that people are promoted to managerial roles based on their technical skills, not their people skills.</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">"The old euphemism applies: people don't leave a job, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/when-to-quit-your-job-for-new-boss-career-growth-2024-2">they leave a boss</a>. Somebody with good emotional intelligence, who has got social and interpersonal skills, would say, 'Oh, just take the day off.'"</p><p id="e338b862-99e2-4a45-adaa-3f2b3cda997d">If that's not a boss's natural tendency or their priority is meeting quarterly targets rather than the team's welfare, then executives should emphasize that keeping people engaged and feeling valued is more important. If that's not happening, then raise it in your performance review, he advised.</p><p id="a6f0a734-df30-4abe-9195-81dd0a5ec5f8">New legislation is also forcing the issue in some states. In January, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/california-new-laws-abortion-lgbtq-marijuana-2024-1">California</a> increased the minimum number of days of sick leave you can take from three to five, for example.</p><p id="a6f0a734-df30-4abe-9195-81dd0a5ec5f8">"The fact that there are states that are doing that suggests to me that there's more to come," said Dooley. "It's an easy win for politicians."</p>

Calling in sick is now a lot more complicated  

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Around 40% of UK employers have given counteroffers to staff looking to job hop in the past year, a survey found.</li><li>Employers are hoping to retain staff for their knowledge, and skills, and to avoid replacing them. </li></ul><p>Workers looking to job hop may be in luck because companies are keen to retain talent and are even offering higher salaries just to keep them there, a survey found. </p><p>A <a href="https://www.cipd.org/uk/about/news/employers-turning-to-counteroffers-reports-cipd-labour-market-outlook/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new report</a> by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development released Monday surveyed 2,003 HR professionals and decision-makers in the UK from June to July 2023, and found that employers are giving counteroffers at a higher rate than in  previous years. </p><p>Around 40% of employers have given a counteroffer in the past 12 months and just over half said they've offered a higher number of counteroffers than in previous years. A quarter of employers expect to give even more counteroffers in the next year. </p><p>Almost half of employers say counteroffers are effective in retaining employees for at least 12 months. Some 40% say they do this by exceeding pay offers given by other employers, while 38% said they match the offers of other employers. </p><p>Half of employers are planning to use counteroffers in the next year to retain staff for their company knowledge and technical skills, the CIPD's survey found. 38% say they do it to avoid the hassle of finding a replacement. </p><p>A <a href="https://investor.ajg.com/news/news-details/2023/Employee-Retention-Outranks-Revenue-and-Sales-Growth-as-Employers-Top-Operational-Priority-New-Gallagher-Study-Finds/default.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">similar report from Gallagher in the US</a> found that employers currently see retaining employees as their number one priority right now, and said that "employers are adjusting compensation and benefits to improve retention rates."</p><p>"When employees leave a business, they take their experience, expertise and contacts with them, and it takes a considerable amount of time and money to hire and train new employees," Yoko Spirig, the CEO of equity management platform, Ledgy, said in an email to Insider.</p><p>"The challenging macro environment has also heightened the importance of carefully managing cash flow and staff retention is a great way to ease spending." </p><p>In the US <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/layoffs-sweeping-the-us-these-are-the-companies-making-cuts-2023?r=US&amp;IR=T#deloitte-1200-jobs-18">layoffs have swept hundreds of companies</a> including Google, Meta, Ford, Spotify, JPMorgan, Lyft, and more. </p><p>Workers are realizing that often their loyalty to companies is going unrewarded and many are now applying to jobs in the hopes of bringing counteroffers to their current employer to win a pay rise or better benefits, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/salary-raise-controversial-tactic-job-interview-counteroffer-employer-2022-11?r=US&amp;IR=T">Insider's Aki Ito reported</a> in November 2022. </p><p>"Candidates are shopping more now than they ever have," Michelle Reisdorf, district director at staffing firm Robert Half told Ito.</p><p>"They're looking out for themselves, and because they have so many options, they really can explore and use what they know about other companies to get more in their current work situation."</p>

Companies are increasingly making counteroffers to staff who have been offered new jobs — often because they can't be bothered to find replacements — UK survey finds

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Employers are mulling pay cuts for remote workers with reduced living costs.</li><li><keyword id="6355629" type="DEFINITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="google">Google</keyword>, Facebook, and UK government departments have all suggested cutting pay for remote workers. </li><li>But with a labor shortage and more workers willing to change jobs, it's not clear many firms will really risk it.</li></ul><p>Workers who permanently choose not to commute into the office face a new sting: A pay cut from employers who argue their living costs are lower.</p><p>This latest conflict comes after white-collar workers took on employers over returning to the office <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/in-war-over-work-from-home-remote-wfh-is-winning">and (mostly) won</a>, and as employers gear up to mandate vaccines for returning workers.</p><p>The pay debate centers on whether those no longer commuting into city centers or other expensive hubs deserve to receive their current wages.</p><p>On Wednesday, news emerged that Google employees who work remotely full-time <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-salary-calculator-work-from-home-pay-cut-technology-2021-8">might face a salary haircut</a> of as much as 25%.</p><p>And Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/zuckerberg-facebook-salary-employees-moving-out-of-silicon-valley-2020-5">has indicated</a> that employees looking to "flee to lower-cost cities" could expect to have their compensation adjusted. </p><p>In the UK, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/aug/09/civil-servants-in-london-could-see-pay-cut-if-they-resist-office-return">The Guardian</a> reported that several government departments were mulling whether to remove an approximately £4,000 ($5,500) top-up for civil servants who live in London and faced higher living costs.</p><p>The news came the same week UK chancellor of the exchequer Rishi Sunak said working from home could hurt the career of younger workers.  </p><p>The FDA Union, which represents the UK's civil servants, said the "insulting and cowardly attacks" had caused anger, and underappreciated the roles played by its members - 81% of whom already live and work outside of London. </p><h2>Is this really the start of a new battle between firms and staff?</h2><p>There are two sides to every story, and each argument holds its merits.</p><p>Companies such as Google and Facebook have invested vast sums in large, fancy campuses and want to see a return on their investment by having employees in the building. </p><p>It's also not uncommon for companies to vary pay, with <a href="https://www.cipd.co.uk/Images/reward-management-base-pay_tcm18-91392.pdf">49% of UK employers already determining salaries by location</a>, according to the Chartered Institute of Professional Development (CIPD).</p><p>But workers argue that they shouldn't be penalized for cutting their living costs, and that their employers may make savings in the long term.</p><p>It isn't clear how many businesses will risk the fight right now.</p><p><a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/the-great-resignation-pandemic-fuels-career-shifting-motives-study-shows-66-of-american-workers-are-on-the-move-1030713695">More workers are open to reassessing their careers and purpose than ever</a>. During a tight labor market, employers attempting to reassess pay could drive away talent.</p><p>Given that it's still early in the days of hybrid work, it would be a rash action to take right now, a CIPD spokeswoman told Insider.</p><p>It could also lead to "an employment law minefield for businesses", said Malcolm Gregory, employment lawyer and partner at UK firm Royds Withy King.</p><p>"If they want all staff to work from an office, they may face an increase in formal requests to <keyword id="123591" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Work-from-home">work from home</keyword> that cannot be ignored. If they offer fully remote working and wish to reduce <keyword id="6402851" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="salaries">salaries</keyword>, they will need to gain consent. That may not always be given."</p><p>British staff with protected characteristics under UK employment law - such as age, disability, and pregnancy - who find it difficult to commute could be able to bring claims against their employer.</p><p>However Gregory added that US workers could face more aggressive workforce strategies from their employers, due to the fact that most employment is at will.</p><p>Legal or HR headaches may be why few companies have cut pay so far.</p><p>Neither Google, nor Facebook have actually cut workers' pay. And a spokesperson for UK prime minister Boris Johnson said civil servants would not be punished for continuing to work remotely.</p><p>According to CIPD data, just 7% of companies are changing pay to reflect home working or have plans to.</p><p>In reality, decisions around pay and location will vary between sectors and businesses - but it will stay a point of public discussion for the foreseeable future.</p>

There are also messages about colonialism, gender roles, and police brutality hidden beneath the bloody plot points. </p><p>Even though it premiered in late May, here's why you shouldn't sleep on the quietly revolutionary new Netflix series "Betaal."</p><p><div type="image" title="betaal 2 netflix" height="2016" width="2688" msid="76520751" hostid="261"></div></p><h2>'Betaal' focuses on a group of Indian soldiers and civilians as they try to escape from colonial-era British zombies</h2><p>The central conflict of the show starts between the soldiers from CIPD and the villagers of Adivasi. </p><p>The corrupt CIPD has been sent to Adivasi to excavate a tunnel dating back to colonial India that runs through the nearby mountain Betaal. Not only would this displace the villagers, but the villagers also warn that doing so would release an evil spirit called Betaal. </p><p>Of course, because this is a horror show, the villagers are ignored. Things quickly take a turn for the worse for the CIPD officers when they discover the construction has released British colonial zombies who are out for blood.</p><p>The villagers and CIPD squad must face off against the reanimated colonizers and defeat Betaal over the show's four episodes. </p><p><div type="image" title="patrick graham BTS betaal" height="2331" width="3108" msid="76520755" hostid="261"></div></p><h2>Writer and director Patrick Graham called the show a tongue-in-cheek 'hate letter to England' and the memory of the British empire</h2><p>The references to colonialism in "Betaal" are pretty obvious from the start. A British lieutenant in the East India Trading Company is revealed to have sacrificed his son and the remains of his regiment in order to harness the powers of the Betaal and become emperor of India.</p><p>And in fighting the Betaal and his zombie army, the CIPD and other survivors are, in a way, recreating the battles between Indians and British soldiers hundreds of years before. </p><p>According to Graham, himself a white British man, he wanted the show's portrayal of colonialism to be a stern rebuke to those in Britain who might be nostalgic for the days of empire while also centering the Indian experience. </p><p>"Even in the most liberal English person, you often find this kind of glimmer of nostalgia, even though it was just a series of terrible atrocities," he told Insider. "And you can see in British fiction, a lot of the time they're still making stuff which glorifies the empire." </p><p>"I like the idea of making 'Betaal' my hate letter to England because Britain might be in their false delusion that they have a glorious past, but no one else thinks so — and particularly not the Indian population," Graham said. </p><p>"I was kind of hoping — I'm not sure if I quite managed it — that the show would be almost like a cathartic experience," he continued. "With people experiencing this band of Indian soldiers just decimating these undead British troops in the same way that it might be fun to watch the Nazis getting shot in 'Inglourious Basterds.'" </p><p><div type="image" title="betaal 3" height="2331" width="3108" msid="76520757" hostid="261"></div></p><h2>Co-writer Suhani Kanwar used the show to give voices to female and indigenous characters, in addition to touching on issues like colonialism</h2><p>Kanwar told Insider she was interested in exploring India's "postcolonial identity" in the show and said her collaboration with Graham allowed her to re-examine the decades-old story of the Betaal. </p><p>"Of course I'm aware of the fact that he's literally a foreign gaze, but he brought me this myth of the Betaal, which we grew up with over here," Kanwar said. "It's just part of our childhoods, it's everywhere. But what Patrick made me do is relook at it."</p><p>"And now in my adulthood, when I've revisited the story, it's actually a story of moral and ethical conundrums," she added. </p><p>According to Kanwar, a key part of the story for her was the role the indigenous villagers play, especially as they're confronted and murdered by law enforcement. </p><p>"I was thinking about police brutality, about this obsession that we have with ideas of national security. Who are we attacking? What are we defending?" Kanwar said of her mindset during writing the interactions between the CIPD and the villagers. </p><p>"We give those armed forces special powers. We give them immunity and we hope that what will happen will develop the nation, but tribal people are paying for it," she said.</p><p><div type="image" title="suhani kanwar betaal_edited 1" height="900" width="1200" msid="76520760" hostid="261"></div></p><h2>The strong female characters in 'Betaal' were a result of Kanwar's experience with sexism</h2><p>While some horror movies feature women as mere victims, there are unforgettable female characters in "Betaal," including Ahlu, the CIPD lieutenant; Puniya, a ruthless and resilient villager; and little Saanvi, a young girl who proves to be the key to defeating the Betaal. </p><p>Kanwar told Insider that her experiences as a woman in the film and TV industry led her to create such memorable women characters. </p><p>"It's coming from a very conscious place. I wish I could say it's organic, but it's been an adrenaline rush and kind of wish fulfillment to write these characters, Puniya especially," Kanwar said of her mindset while writing the show's female characters.</p><p>According to the screenwriter, when she attended film school in Bombay, things were much different for women than they are today. </p><p>"You come in with your youthful optimism, of joining the workforce in film," Kanwar explained. "But the odds are stacked against you. The system is designed to keep you out and you feel that discrimination every step of the way." </p><p>"The only way to be a writer a few years ago was to be able to 'write like a man' in Bombay. But that is changing, I am very happy to report," Kanwar said.  "The playing field is much wider. It's much more level. And I can actually write characters like Puniya, like Saanvi, like Ahlu." </p><p><div type="image" title="betaal trailer" height="1436" width="1915" msid="76520762" hostid="261"></div></p><h2>Despite the engaging plot and timely undertones, most Indian critics weren't fans of 'Betaal'</h2><p>"'Betaal' routinely undermines its own timely themes with an over-reliance on needless gore, cheap jump scares, and plot contrivances," Rohan Naahar <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/tv/betaal-review-shah-rukh-khan-s-netflix-zombie-show-is-dead-on-arrival/story-7utjRc9n4OwqOGlk0O93rJ.html">wrote in his review  for the Hindustan Times</a>, while reviewer Poulomi Das <a href="https://silverscreenindia.com/streaming/reviews/betaal-review-an-awful-netflix-zombie-horror-that-has-nothing-to-say/">said the show</a> "somehow manages to be too long, repetitive and needlessly convoluted, stretching its one-line plot, glaringly under-written, way too thin." </p><p>Naahar and Das weren't alone in their dislike for the show — numerous other critics from India also <a href="https://www.filmcompanion.in/streaming/betaal-netflix-review-deafening-and-dead-foray-into-zombie-horror-shah-rukh-khan/">slammed "Betaal" in their reviews</a>. </p><p>Graham and Kanwar had their own thoughts on why the show was received negatively in India. </p><p>"They might not be familiar with this kind of genre, but I think there's so much more stuff at play," Graham told Insider. "I think that they might have an issue with Netflix, because it's seen as like an American entity that's coming in and trying Westernize certain things. They probably see the show isn't as a kind of Western show."</p><p>But Graham was adamant that "Betaal" isn't a Western show, despite what critics might say. </p><p>"I'm the only Westerner working with a crew of hundreds of Indian people. And I had an Indian co-director and an Indian co-writer Suhani — we both came up with the story together," Graham said. "So it's very much an Indian story for an Indian audience, and it's an Indian show first and foremost." </p><p>Kanwar, for her part, didn't have a clear explanation as to why critics had such an intense dislike for show. </p><p>"I wish I had an answer to that question," she said when asked by Insider about the critical response. "I guess all I can do is write about things that I care about and that interest me. Brexit is 'a significant change for the worse' for Britain's jobs market

 Car owners can now breathe a sigh of relief as the petroleum dealers who had earlier planned a two-day nationwide no-purchase strike today and tomorrow have called it off. They have decided to halt the agitation programmes as oil companies have promised to look into their demand for hiking commission before December 31.<br />

The Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers (CIPD) said they would go on a full-fledged strike on November 15 to press for their demand to increase commission.<br />
<br />
Besides, the dealers had said petrol pumps will be selling fuel for limited hours from Saturday and will not operate on Sundays or Government holidays, according to a report by news agency.<br />
<br />
However, they decided not to go ahead with these programmes after holding talks with representatives of oil companies in Mumbai.<br />
<br />
"Our discussions with oil companies yielded results. They promised to address our issues (hike in commission) before December 31. So we are calling off our agitation programmes," CIPD Joint Secretary Rajiv Amaram told the news agency.<br />
<br />
The CIPD has demanded implementation of the recommendations made by the Apoorva Chandra Committee in 2011.<br />
<br />
The committee recommended commissions of over Rs 4 for petrol and about Rs 3 for diesel per litre. The then UPA Government hiked the commission on petrol to Rs 2.15 and diesel to Rs 1.28 from Re 1 and Re 0.70, respectively.<br />

Amaram said the dealers are supposed to get the arrears also from 2011. The dealers had stopped purchase of fresh stocks of petrol and diesel at 54,000 fuel outlets across the country from oil companies from yesterday. In Telangana alone, over 1,400 truckloads of petrol and diesel were not lifted yesterday and today by petroleum dealers in the State.

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Screenshot/YouTube</span></p><p class="caption">The CIPD said government initiatives like apprenticeships levies were limiting wage growth.</p></div><p></p></div></div>The "jobs-rich, pay-poor" economy will continue until at least the end of the decade, according to the professional HR body <a href="http://www.cipd.co.uk/pressoffice/press-releases/lmo-160516.aspx" target="_blank">Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)</a>.</p><p>Most employees are unlikely to see a boost in real terms to their pay anytime soon, with the CIPD's latest Labour Market Outlook forecasting an average pay rise for employees of 1.7% next year. 1,000 employers responded to the survey.</p><p>This marks the second quarter in a row that surveyed employers have predicted a pay rise below the government's official target of 2%.</p><p>The CIPD report highlights "low inflation, expanding labour supply, and the lack of productivity growth working in combination to reduce the economic pressure for employers to pay their staff more."</p><p>Government-imposed increases in labour costs, such as apprenticeships levies and increases in the National Living Wage are also blamed for low pay boosts.</p><p>Despite limited wage growth, there are still jobs out there. The survey notes that 49% of employers have roles that are proving hard to fill.</p><p>Mark Beatson, CIPD Chief Economist, said that although hiring intentions remained strong, the pay situation probably wasn't going to get better anytime soon. He says:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">For now, there's no sign of the economy running out of jobs, or out of people to fill those jobs. However, the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> is now in its eighth year of productivity 'go-slow' which continues to limit the scope for employers to pay more and recruitment and retention problems have so far proved manageable without across-the-board pay rises.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">Simply making low-paid labour more expensive is not the answer and the Government shouldn't be surprised if some employers choose easier options, such as reducing hours, chipping away at other benefits or making a less generous pay award the next time pay is reviewed.</p><p>The report comes as the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) <a href="http://news.cbi.org.uk/news/cbi-predicts-slower-growth-as-dark-cloud-of-uncertainty-looms/" target="_blank">cut its 2016 economic growth forecast</a> from 2.3% to 2%. Most workers won't see a pay boost until 'at least the end of this decade'

However, it does say that private sector companies are more likely to consider relocation than public sector or voluntary sector ones, which you would expect.</p><p>Several large corporations have made noises about relocating some or all of their <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword> staff overseas in the wake of the Brexit vote. <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/brexit-goldman-sachs-vodafone-moving-uk-jobs-eu-referendum-2016-6">Vodafone</a> and <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/post-eu-referendum-brexit-report-easyjet-considering-moving-headquarters-out-of-the-uk-2016-7">easyJet</a> have both said they are considering relocating their headquarters elsewhere.</p><p>JPMorgan has <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/jpmorgan-ceo-jamie-dimon-on-brexit-referendum-speech-uk-jobs-economy-2016-6">repeatedly said it may have to move thousands of jobs</a> while <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/brexit-goldman-sachs-vodafone-moving-uk-jobs-eu-referendum-2016-6">Goldman Sachs has also said it expects banks to move roles overseas.</a> <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/confidential-deutsche-bank-briefing-where-banks-post-brexit-2016-7">A leaked Deutsche Bank briefing obtained by Business Insider</a> also shows it thinks banks are likely to move to places like Ireland, France, Germany, and Luxembourg.</p><p>In total, the CIPD and Adecco survey found nearly one in six employers is considering either relocating or cutting back on overseas expansion as a result of Brexit.</p><p>The report says:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"We cannot conclude for certain that there will be a net loss of business to the UK from relocation because we do not know if there will be an increase in foreign investment into the UK post-Brexit. It seems likely that the UK will experience some increase in net investment outflows as a result of Brexit in the short to medium term.</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;">"The impact of deciding to expand in the UK rather than overseas is more ambiguous. While it has the advantage of boosting domestic UK investment and employment, it may be sub-optimal in terms of business development. Here are the countries British businesses are most likely to move to post-Brexit

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Getty</span></p><p class="caption">The National Minimum Wage could lead to misery for lots of consumers</p></div><p></p></div></div>Nearly a fifth of companies say that they're going to have to put prices up next year when Chancellor George Osborne introduces the new national living wage, according to a major new study.</p><p><a href="http://www.resolutionfoundation.org/media/press-releases/half-of-all-employers-expect-to-be-affected-by-the-new-national-living-wage/">The survey, created by think-tank the Resolution Foundation and the CIPD</a>, asked more than 1,000 employers how they would cope with the new wage, which will <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-living-wage-nlw">legally require companies to pay all employees over 25 at least £7.20 per hour</a>.</p><p>It showed that when asked about how they would cope with the likely increases in their wage bills, 15% of companies said that they would put prices up; a further 15% said they'd be forced to make redundancies, or slow recruitment; and 16% said they'd trip bonuses and overtime given to staff.</p><p>22% of respondents said they'd just have to accept lower profits, and most popular way of coping with the national living wage was to try and increase productivity. 30% of employers said they will do this come April.</p><p>Of the companies surveyed, 54% said that the Chancellor's new living wage would increase their total wage bill, with the worst affected industries being retail and hospitality, where 79% and 77% of companies said that wages would have to go up overall.</p><p>Numerous companies have already complained that changes to the minimum employers can pay their staff will hurt their ability to make money.</p><p>In September, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/wetherspoons-results-uk-tax-on-pubs-versus-supermarkets-and-the-national-living-wage-2015-9">Wetherspoons boss Tim Martin</a>, who has been an outspoken critic of the wage increase, said: "By pushing up the cost of wages by a large factor, the government is inevitably putting financial pressure on pubs, many of which have already closed." A few weeks later, <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/wetherspoons-quarterly-results-margins-down-by-15-2015-11">the pub chain reported a narrowing of profit margins</a>, as it increased wages to comply with the new rules.</p><p>Whitbread, which owns Costa Coffee and Premier Inn, <a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/retailandconsumer/leisure/11850173/Costa-owner-Whitbread-warns-living-wage-could-hit-prices.html">has also previously said it will need to put up prices to cope with wage increases.</a></p><p>In a statement on Wednesday, CIPD chief economist Mark Beatson said that he thought the changes to minimum wage might have caught employers by surprise: "The national living wage was a bombshell for most employers when it was announced in July. It comes into force next April, which does not give employers a lot of time to prepare. The National Minimum Wage is going to cause job losses and price increases

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.paimages.co.uk/image-details/2.28050858">AP Photo/Claude Paris</a></span></p><p class="caption">France is welcoming British finance firms with open arms.</p></div><p></p></div></div>France's financial regulators are offering to "simplify and speed up" the licensing process for British firms looking to move to France in the wake of the Brexit vote.</p><p>Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution (ACPR), which monitors banks and insurers, and the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), which safeguards investments and the stock market, issued a joint statement on Wednesday saying they are "getting ready to welcome British-based institutions that wish to locate their business in France."</p><p>The regulators flag the risk of British institutions losing passporting rights if there's a "hard Brexit" and suggest they should set up a French business to guard against this risk.</p><p>The joint statement says:</p><p style="padding-left: 30px;" align="">"For existing activities that are already supervised by the competent authority in the home country, the licensing procedure may be simplified and speeded up. This will be done by using documents already available in English such as forms that have been submitted to the supervisory authorities in the home country and papers concerning a branch whose business will be taken over by the subsidiary firm."</p><p>Companies will also get an English-speaking contact point who can hold the firms' hands throughout the licensing process. The new fast track is open to insurance companies, investment firms, payment institution, or electronic money institutions, but not credit providers.</p><p>It's looking increasingly unlikely that Britain will retain its passporting rights after it officially leaves the European Union. Leading Brexiteers such as <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/boris-johnson-hard-brexit-change-britain-2016-9">Boris Johnson are pushing for a so-called "hard Brexit"</a> that would <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/pressure-on-theresa-may-building-for-a-hard-brexit-2016-9">see Britain cut all formal ties with the EU and reclaim control over immigration</a>. Top EU officials say they also <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/jens-weidmann-warns-city-of-london-could-lose-financial-passport-after-brexit-2016-9">won't negotiate a special deal with the City of London if this happens.</a></p><p>Passporting rights are vital for London's success as an international finance hub. Under EU rules, companies licensed in Britain are free to "passport" that license across the EU and operate in all member states.
