CarDekho founder Amit Jain offers ₹5 crore for a pitch on 'Shark Tank India'

The Health Ministry intends to roll out <keyword id="102327" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="hpv" source="Orion">HPV</keyword> vaccine against cervical cancer in the national immunisation programme for girls aged 9 to 14 years in June for which a global tender is likely to be floated in April, official sources have said. Serum Institute's made-in-India HPV vaccine "CERVAVAC" was launched by Union Home Minister <keyword id="6355521" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="amit-shah" source="Orion">Amit Shah</keyword> on January 24, in presence of the Pune-based firm's CEO <keyword id="383467" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="adar-poonawalla" source="Orion">Adar Poonawalla</keyword> and Prakash Kumar Singh, its Director-Government and Regulatory Affairs. "The ministry is likely to float in April a global tender for 16.02 crore doses of HPV vaccine, which will be supplied by 2026. Apart from domestic manufacturer <keyword id="95879" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="serum-institute-of-india" source="Orion">Serum Institute of India</keyword>, global vaccine manufacturer Merck is also likely to participate in the tender," an official source said. In July last year, <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>'s drug regulator granted market authorization to Serum Institute of India's indigenously developed HPV vaccine. It has also been cleared by government advisory panel National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) for use in the public health programme. Prakash Kumar Singh, on the sidelines of a South Asia meet on HPV last month, had said that the price of CERVAVAC will be affordable compared to the international HPV vaccine available in India. India, at present, is fully dependent on foreign manufacturers for HPV vaccines. Globally, three foreign firms manufacture HPV vaccines out of which two sell their doses in India. Each dose of the vaccine available in the market costs more than Rs 4,000, sources said. In September 2022, Poonawalla had said that each dose of its "CERVAVAC" vaccine would cost Rs 200 to Rs 400. India, which is home to about 16 per cent of the world's women, accounts for about a quarter of all cervical cancer incidences and nearly a third of global cervical cancer deaths. Indian women face a 1.6 per cent lifetime cumulative risk of developing cervical cancer and a one per cent cumulative death risk from cervical cancer, according to officials. Recent estimates state that every year almost 80,000 women develop cervical cancer and 35,000 die in India due to it. On what prevented India from introducing the HPV vaccine till now, NTAGI chief Dr N K Arora had said that the vaccine supply has been a limiting factor globally. Fortunately, over the last five years, the global supply of the HPV vaccine has been improving gradually. India has taken a lead in this direction. Serum Institute of India, one of the major Indian vaccine manufacturers, with support from the Centre's Department of Biotechnology has developed four valent HPV vaccine. The vaccine has received regulatory approval and cleared by NTAGI for use in public health programmes. "We are given to understand that three other Indian vaccine manufacturers are also in various stages of developing the HPV vaccine," an official had said.

We switched to an intra city bus service soon after,” Amit Singh, CEO and co-founder, Shuttl told Business Insider. However, there’s also news about another round of funding. While reports say that Shuttl has closed its series B round of funding for $7 million, the company has not commented on it. Answering Business Insider India’s questions in April, Singh had said, “We are in the process of raising capital. The response from potential investors has been encouraging. There is a lot of interest in the massive underserved market we're going after with our unique approach to shared mobility. Our existing investors continue to believe in us and are impressed by the good work team has been putting in and have already made some commitments.” But profitability is not close, in fact, it is a moving goal post for the company. “There’s always a tradeoff between growth and profitability. When we are close to it, we add more buses, more routes which moves profitability farther away,” he said.

<ul><li>While the co-working spaces had to stop operations during the initial phase of the lockdown, things are now slowly getting back to normal.</li><li>In fact, the lockdown could have given a boost to the industry as more and more organizations are now looking at cost-efficiency, flexibility and people are increasingly looking for spaces near their houses.</li><li>Most players from the industry are confident that the co-working space will see resurgence soon, and that it has a good growth opportunity in the future.</li></ul>Before the world was hit by the pandemic that led to offices shutting down and people working from home, co-working spaces had started becoming the place for small businesses, entrepreneurs and start-ups to set up shop. Often bustling with people from varied background, all working at the same place, co-working spaces had a lot of pros. Apart from the cost-efficiencies and the increased flexibility for people working at their own pace and time, these spaces were also great places to network and build connections. However, with the lockdown, the functioning of these spaces was brought to a halt, atleast in the initial months, when people were stuck at homes. However, with things opening up, there has been a visible change in how people work. According to recent industry reports, the Indian flex space market witnessed a supply boom which resulted in a significant rise in the total stock of flex spaces, which nearly tripled from 9.9 million sq ft. in 2017 to 29.5 million sq. ft. in 2020 over a period of close to 3 years. Since most of our clients are large enterprises with long-term leases, we did not see substantial impact on our revenues. Also, as majority of our business falls under the profit-sharing (managed aggregation) model, the strength of our relationship with our landlords has played a significant role in helping us steer through this time. We also took this challenge head on to understand the changing needs of our customers, innovate and come up with new solutions to cater to the evolving work landscape.” Meanwhile, the pandemic also led to a lot of the players to re-invent and innovate, to address consumer problems. Two months into the pandemic, Awfis launched its work-from-home product - Awfis@Home. It provided employees the flexibility to work efficiently from their homes while replicating the setting of a productive office work environment, including the Physical infrastructure, IT infrastructure and Tech integration. “We have received a great response for the product, for instance, 1000 units of Awfis@Home have been sold till now via direct sales as companies are providing allowances to employees for a comfortable work from home experience. We also created win-win partnership models like ‘Powered By Awfis’, which continue to help companies optimize costs by creating flex workspaces out of their unutilized or underutilized real estate. This in turn generates an additional revenue source for them and while allowing us to add to our existing footprint,” shared Ramani. The post lockdown scenario is bringing in a wave of new opportunities for the co-working players. While the work-from-home model would have worked well in the lockdown, many companies may not want it as a culture and many business verticals and functions still require employees to work in an office setting. Work-from-home may co-exist, but office space will not lose its importance. Many companies, even pre-pandemic, have had to deal with the burden of long-term, lock-in leases with heavy security deposits, which take away the ‘business cashflow’ ability to respond to changes in the economy quickly. Now, more than ever, flexibility is crucial and hence co-working spaces, with their natural flexibility and inherent readiness to add value are best positioned to adapt and redefine the future of work and workspace,” explained <keyword id="2439294" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manas-Mehrotra">Manas Mehrotra</keyword>, Founder, <keyword id="9435040" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="315work-avenue">315Work Avenue</keyword>. A recent report by JLL stated that the current market penetration of flexible workspaces in total office space stands at 3% and this percentage is expected to go up to 4.2% by 2023. The report further stated that irrespective of some short-term disruptions and challenges, increased demand from large enterprises will help the industry grow to more than 50 million square feet by 2023. The flexible spaces segment is expected to grow by an average of around 15-20% per annum over the next three-to-four years, even though the trajectory might not be linear. Meanwhile, <keyword id="10635247" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="rajiv-bathla">Rajiv Bathla</keyword>, Chief Operating Officer, <keyword id="10635246" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-circle-work">The Circle.Work</keyword> said that while there has been an incremental increase every month since things started opening, it’s still sometime away from normalcy. “With every subsequent un-lock, operation of public transport and the metro, incremental business volumes are certainly coming in. The occupancy levels still at best are 35% with larger enterprises still waiting it out. I feel apart from the financial aspect, there’s still fear around what’s safe and what’s not. Meanwhile, 315Work Avenue is also not leaving any stone unturned to make sure people feel comfortable in their spaces. “We have put in the best practices in place by consulting a vast panel of experts on our board which also includes several doctors. As companies look to resume business, redesigning and restructuring of existing real estate will pose yet another challenge, however co-working spaces will be able to respond to design changes required post-COVID-19 quicker and more efficiently than traditional office spaces,” he said. Earlier this year WeWork India received $100 million in a fresh round of funding and the organization already has a plan in place focusing on long-term sustainable growth across all its spaces. “We want to pivot our energies towards attaining profitability for sustainable long-term growth. His friend who would board the same bus midway, would call him to track its ETA. Today, with co-founder Deepanshu Malviya Singh, runs a technology-enabled, seat-based, demand-adaptive bus mobility service – Shuttl. With Shuttl, a user can select from prefixed routes and schedules to commute from home to work. The service, popular with millennials and working professionals, is operational in eight cities and has marked over 20 million rides so far. Its biggest market is Delhi-NCR with women making up 38% of its customers. Singh, an IIT-Delhi graduate, had earlier worked on the <keyword id="6366797" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Metro">Delhi Metro</keyword> and later at investment firms, before going on to work at Jabong. Having gained experience in both transportation and consumer internet, Singh knew that he had to bring both these industries together. “We were supremely impressed with Uber as a product. However, there was a trade-off between affordability and comfort,” he said. The Mathematics behind transportation Singh has a simple equation for comfort in transportation. Comfort = assured seat + a direct route + an AC vehicle. “Buses are the most cost efficient way of moving people. They have been there for ages, except that there was no technology involved. The white space was between cabs which offered extra seats at a price and a public transport which assured no seat at a cheaper price,” said Singh. So, they took buses – unbundled the seats, rebundled them and offered with a subscription model. “In India, there are three factors – high population density, low purchasing power, solutions and developing infrastructure – that gave us the opportunity to come and build something,” said Singh. The original commute When in 2015, Singh and Malviya started working on Shuttl, it was an intercity service providing bus routes between Delhi and Jaipur. On April 6, 2015, they realised that they weren’t solving a day-to-day problem. By April 7, Malviya built an app where users can put an origin and a destination without any payment gateway. On April 8, they stood at HUDA city centre in Gurugram, and convinced two people to use the app. By evening, those two people got five more along, thus taking it to nine bookings in a day. “Retention and referral are big things. We didn’t sell to nine people, we sold only to two, yet our phones were ringing with orders,” said Singh. Within four months, they gained the attention of one of India’s marquee funds – Sequoia Capital. By September, they had reached 10,000 users.

 "Success in India is a global priority for us," Uber <keyword id="5645" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CEO">CEO</keyword> Travis Kalanick told the <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword> in an email. "(Amit's) experience as an operator, building and scaling world-class teams will be invaluable as we enter the next phase of Uber India's growth." 
According to a news report by The Economic Times, the taxi-hailing firm's India revenue run rate - an annualized projection extrapolated from the latest revenue numbers - is close to Rs 1,100 crore ($200 million). "Uber expects this to increase by 35% at the end of July," said a source directly familiar with the matter, declining to be identified. 
 
"Uber continues to see phenomenal steady growth of 40% every month in India as we increase our presence and reliability in the 11 cities across India where we are operational," Allen Penn, head of Asia operations at the company told the ET. 
 
 In December last year, Uber was in a bad pitch, after one of its drivers raped a passenger in <keyword id="222693" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-National">the national</keyword> capital. 
 Trouble for the taxi aggregator began in India after one of the drivers on its network allegedly raped a passenger in Delhi in December. Since then, Uber as well as Ola have come under greater regulatory scrutiny for their safety procedures and business models - the <keyword id="6354952" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Government">Delhi government</keyword> wants cab aggregators to operate under radio taxi licences. 
 Ola, which is backed by Softbank, DST Global and GIC, plans to expand to at least 200 cities by the end of this year. The company's revenue spurt has been aided by its $200-million acquisition of rival <keyword id="1428790" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="TaxiforSure">TaxiForSure</keyword>, whose revenue has doubled since the deal closed in March. Ola still accounts for over 80% of the combined revenue. 
 
According to a Goldman Sachs report titled 'India rising internet', the domestic online car rental market is expected to reach $1.4 billion by 2030. 
 "(Taxi aggregators) are looking at aggressive marketing campaigns and deep discounts as a tool to retain or attract new customers. It is (also) important to address the larger issues like congestion, parking, air pollution, safety and connectivity," Jaspal Singh, cofounder of <keyword id="2569185" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Valoriser-Consultants">Valoriser Consultants</keyword>, which provides market research services for transportation companies told the financial daily.

Redseer Consulting, in a recently released report, has found that 27 startups that appeared on season 1 of the show secured funds from external investors. ”Most startups that appeared on the show secured deals 6 times greater in value from outside investors within a span of 1.5 years. Their current valuation is also 2.5 times greater than what they were valued on <keyword id="15913368" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shark-tank-season-1" source="Orion">Shark Tank season 1</keyword>,” said Kanishka Mohan, partner at Redseer Consulting. In season 1, as many as 117 pitches were made, out of which 65 of them accepted deals on the show, 20 rejected deals and 32 were not offered a deal at all. All these sections of startups, received a fair amount of interest from external investors. Six startups which were not offered a deal on the show like — On2Cook, Theka Coffee, Good Piggy Bank, Sabjikothi and Nushka were able to secure deals outside. “In all, most startups that appeared on the show fared well afterward, securing better deals and increasing valuations,” the consulting firm said. Who’s the biggest shark? As much as ₹100 crore was invested in startups that pitched their ideas on Shark Tank season 1 and 2 by eight sharks. And the shark with the most appetite is Aman Gupta, the founder of BoAt who invested ₹24.6 crore across 70 deals. He is followed closely by Peyush Bansal, the co-founder and CEO of Lenskart who invested ₹21.5 crore across 67 deals. The most active shark of season 1 who missed the second season is Ashneer Grover, the co-founder of BharatPe, who invested ₹5.3 crore in 21 deals. Sharks loved to invest in startups pertaining to the food and beverage sector .
