A special <keyword id="6354572" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cbi" source="Orion">CBI</keyword> court in Mumbai is likely to announce the verdict in the suicide case of actress, <keyword id="19566" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="jiah-khan" source="Orion">Jiah Khan</keyword> on Friday. Actor <keyword id="1623055" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sooraj-pancholi" source="Orion">Sooraj Pancholi</keyword>, who is facing charges of abetting the suicide of actress Jiah Khan, reached CBI Court along with his mother on Friday morning. Jiah Khan was found dead in her suburban home on June 3, 2013. Sooraj <keyword id="968" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pancholi" source="Orion">Pancholi</keyword> is accused of abetting the suicide of Jiah Khan based on a letter seized on June 10, which the 25-year-old actor purportedly wrote, Mumbai Police booked Pancholi under section 306 (abetment to suicide) and arrested him. Sooraj, son of actors <keyword id="966" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aditya-pancholi" source="Orion">Aditya Pancholi</keyword> and Zarina Wahab, was allegedly in a relationship with Jiah. Here is a timeline of Jiah Khan's suicide case: on June 3, 2013, Jiah Khan's body was found in flat number 102 of Sagar Sangeet Society in Mumbai On June 7, 2013, Mumbai police recovered a six-page suicide note from Jiah's house. On June 10, 2013, Sooraj Pancholi was arrested by the Juhu police after allegations of abetting Jiha for suicide. On July 2, 2013, the Bombay High Court granted bail to Suraj Pancholi and he got released after spending 22 days in jail. In October 2013, Jiha's mother, Rabia Khan, moved to the Bombay High Court demanding a CBI probe. In July 2014, the case was handed over to the CBI. In December 2015, the CBI submitted a report before the court and termed the case as an abetment to suicide. A few days later, Rabia demanded for an SIT to probe the matter. In February 2017, the High Court rejected the demand for the formation of the SIT. The trial court also rejected Rabia's demand for further investigation in 2018. On 15 March 2019, the trial began in the Jiah Khan case. In the year 2021, the case was reassigned to the Special CBI Court because the sessions court said that the jurisdiction of the CBI case is not with the sessions court. On March 21, 2023, the government side closed its case with the statement of 21 witnesses. On April 20, 2023, both sides presented their final arguments after which the court fixed 28 April to announce the verdict. Actor <keyword id="1623055" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sooraj-pancholi" source="Orion">Sooraj Pancholi</keyword> shook off the controversy clouding his life and career on Friday with a special <keyword id="6354572" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="cbi" source="Orion">CBI</keyword> court acquitting him in the 2013 <keyword id="6356238" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="suicide" source="Orion">suicide</keyword> case of his girlfriend <keyword id="19566" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jiah-khan" source="Orion">Jiah Khan</keyword>. Pancholi, 32, the son of actors <keyword id="966" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="aditya-pancholi" source="Orion">Aditya Pancholi</keyword> and Zarina Wahab, hasn't really been able to make a dent after his promising debut as the lead in the remake of "Hero" opposite Athiya Shetty in 2015. The film, which won him a Filmfare Award for best debut, was backed by Salman Khan and Subhash Ghai. It didn't do well and Pancholi's career has been moving in fits and starts since then. He has since worked in the little-known "Satellite Shankar" and "Time to Dance". Pancholi, who has also worked as assistant director on films such as Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Guzaarish" and Salman Khan-starrer "Ek Tha Tiger", hit the headlines when he was accused of abetting Jiah Khan's suicide. He was charged on the basis of a six-page letter purportedly written by Khan, who was found hanging in her Juhu home on June 3, 2013. In an interview to PTI in 2015, Pancholi had said, "My name will always be associated with her and I have no guilt for that. I am happy that something at least stays with me. I am sad that she ended her life. But at least her name is with me and I have no problems with it." On Friday, Pancholi was there with his mother when the judge read out the verdict. Special CBI judge A S Sayyad called him to the witness box and asked his name. When the actor said Sooraj, the judge asked him to state his full name. The actor then replied, "Sooraj Aditya Pancholi." The judge then said, "Due to paucity of evidence, this court holds you (Sooraj) not guilty... acquitted." Sooraj nodded with his head down and stepped out of the witness box. He didn't speak to reporters. A special court hit out at the CBI in <keyword id="1703444" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jiah-Khan-suicide-case">Jiah Khan suicide case</keyword>, asking how did media get to know about parts of the chargesheet filed in the case. 
 
The court said this was "very serious" and asked the probe agency to be careful in future. 
 
Meanwhile, accused Sooraj Pancholi appeared before a Special Women's court which adjourned the matter till January 18. 
 
As he collected the copy of the chargesheet and left, Special Judge A S Shende adjourned the case observing, "How come the contents of the charge sheet is known to media even before I got to know about it." 
 
"CBI is the only source from where it got leaked. This is a very serious thing. Be careful about it in future," she warned. 
 
Meanwhile, outside the court, Jiah's mother Rabiya Khan told reporters that she was not satisfied with the charge sheet. 
 
"I am not happy with the charge sheet, there is much more to be revealed," she said. 
 
As per the chargesheet filed in a court here, it is alleged that on June 3, 2013, when Jiah was found hanging by her mother at her residence, she had left the house of Sooraj in the morning. Sooraj and Jiah had the been staying together for two days. 
 
According to CBI, Sooraj had hidden facts and fabricated information during questioning, the forensic analysis of his statements has indicated.

CBI gets rapped for leak of chargesheet details in Jiah Khan case

The Bombay High Court in July 2014 had handed the special crime division of the CBI the task to investigative whether actress Jiah Khan;s death was suicidial or homicidial, and although there was found to have been no concrete evidence to make it a case for homicide, new information submitted by the CBI may make a case for the abetment to <keyword id="6356238" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Suicide">suicide</keyword> against <keyword id="1623055" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sooraj-Pancholi">Sooraj Pancholi</keyword> a wee bit stronger. 
 The CBI charge sheet, submitted to a sessions court on Wednesday, describes Khan's <keyword id="6357791" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="abortion">abortion</keyword> and Pancholi's role in it in graphic detail. A source gave details of the charge sheet to Mumbai Mirror stating that Jiah was four weeks pregnant when she informed Pancholi about it. The couple then approached a physician who prescribed some medicines for medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) but that didn't help. The couple then approached another doctor and finally a gynaecologist who prescribed a stronger and more effective combination of drugs. 
"After taking the medicine, Khan started haemorrhaging and called Pancholi for help. She was in pain and needed immediate medical attention but Pancholi allegedly asked her to wait and called up the gynaecologist for guidance. He was asked to rush Khan to hospital as the foetus had probably aborted but had not been expelled from the body, which is probably what led to the hemorrhaging," the charge sheet says. 
It adds that Pancholi was afraid that if Khan got hospitalised, their relationship would become public knowledge and his career could grind to a halt even before taking off. Sooraj then decided to take matters in his own hand rather than risk going to a hospital. He extricated the foetus and disposed of it in the toilet, the charge sheet alleges. 
 
This allegedly left a deep emotional scar on Khan as she was very possessive about Pancholi and the latter started avoiding her, possibly for the sake of his acting career. "This added to her depression which finally drove her to suicide," the charge sheet states. 
The earlier charge sheet filed by the Juhu police after Khan's suicide does not mention this incident and it came to light only when the CBI recorded the statement of doctors, who are among the 11 new witnesses examined. 
 
Officially, the CBI was tight-lipped about the contents of the charge sheet and only said that a case under Section 306 of the IPC was made out against a "private person". 
 
Section 306 of the IPC deals with abetment to suicide and carries a maximum imprisonment of 10 years and also a fine.
