In a boost to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘<keyword id="6354869" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="make-in-India">Make in India</keyword>’ campaign, <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) is planning to launch CBR650F bike by July 2015. The bike, which has been manufactured in India, will be the two-wheeler manufacturer’s debut in the premium motorcycle segment. 
 
"We are planning to introduce CBR650F sometime in July. It will be completely assembled in our plant. It is part of the ‘Make in India’ concept promoted by the government...," said Keita Muramatsu, president and CEO, HMSI. 
 
The bike would cost about Rs 8 lakh. Muramatsu also added that HMSI will come up with seven brand new models this year. 
 Currently, HMSI manufactures <keyword id="2719592" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="CBR150cc">CBR150cc</keyword>, <keyword id="2719593" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="CBR250cc">CBR250cc</keyword>, CB Unicorn, <keyword id="1710693" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="CB-Trigger">CB Trigger</keyword>, CB Shine, Dream Yuga, Dream Neo, Activa and Deo. 
 
Talking about the sales target for 2015, Muramatsu asserted that the company aims to sell about 45 lakh units this year as against 37 lakh units sold last year. 
 
HMSI operates three plants in Haryana, Rajasthan and Karnataka, and it has a capacity of 4.60 million units. Its fourth plant, which is coming up in Gujarat, is likely to begin production in 2016.

It comes as Rishi Sunak, the British chancellor, stood accused of <a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/coronavirus-start-ups-facing-funding-collapse-v0fbwwkqz">leading startups "to the slaughterhouse"</a> by some, after investments made through the UK government's founder-friendly investment scheme tanked by 70%. SeedLegals, which claims to oversee around 10% of early-stage investment rounds in the UK, said that although fewer VCs were now taking part in such rounds, the overall number of deals being closed had risen 19% since January, as backers and founders try to settle their accounts ahead of the new tax year in April. Speaking to Business Insider, Anthony Rose, the cofounder and CEO of SeedLegals, said: "The world has changed." He added: "Broadly speaking, there are two key things happening at the moment: First, some investors - angels and other firms - are getting cold feet. They feel uncertain about the future, and they are doing their best to keep their own house in order. "Second - and the sad reality of it is - some companies are just less investible today than they were a few weeks ago." According to data from CB Insights, seed funding has dropped 22% globally since January, as investors come to terms with this new reality. 'The world has changed': A third of investors pulled seed deals this month amid fears coronavirus could trigger a global recession

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The firesale of Credit Suisse to UBS is putting the banking world on high alert.</li><li>Shiny fintechs that disrupted banking will need to reassure investors about their business models.</li></ul>The swallowing of Credit Suisse after a historic week for the banking sector should raise the question for a batch of highly valued startups that want to disrupt finance: Am I next?The saga that culminated last week in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/credit-suisse-ubs-offers-up-to-billion-rescue-deal-report-2023-3">the $3.25 billion rescue of Switzerland's second largest bank</a> by rival lender UBS all started after an off-hand remark from Saudi National Bank, Credit Suisse's largest shareholder, suggesting it had little intent of upping its holding.A crisis in confidence ensued, sparking a huge share and bond price drop and customer outflows. <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-03-17/credit-suisse-investors-see-bail-in-risk-for-82-billion-bonds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">A $54 billion loan</a> from the Swiss National Bank wasn't enough to keep Credit Suisse afloat, and UBS stepped in.It is the latest sign of a financial system that is cracking, after the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/insider-today-svb-silicon-valley-bank-rokt-oil-2023-3">collapse of Silicon Valley Bank</a>.Credit Suisse suffered idiosyncratic problems, such as <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/credit-suisse-ceo-tidjane-thiam-steps-down-after-spying-scandal-2020-2">a spying scandal involving former CEO Tidjane Thiam</a>, as well as crises relating to its relationships with hedge fund Archegos Capital and financial group Greensill Capital. Its delayed annual accounts showed it was around $8 billion in the red, and ultimately it fell after a collapse in investor confidence.But it is clear <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/svb-decimated-24-hours-digital-banking-trump-regulatory-rollbacks-2023-3">that sentiment can make or break a bank</a>. And that should have lessons for the shiny, fast-growing companies that want to be banks, and have only known an era of easy venture capital money and low interest rates."There's already a lot of soul searching about what fintech business models are," says Paul Rolles, an ex-Morgan Stanley managing director and cofounder of money-management service HyperJar.<h2>The party times are over </h2>The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/27-top-fintech-startups-in-europe-according-to-vcs-2023-2">fintech sector</a> has been something of a darling of the startup world post-2008. The promise of technology-led businesses to shake up a staid, failed industry attracted huge amounts of investment.But now these startups — worth $158.9 billion in 2022, <a href="https://www.imarcgroup.com/fintech-market" target="_blank" rel="noopener">per data firm IMARC Group</a> — face their first real questions about the viability of their business models.A vigorous chase for customers during the low-interest rate boom years of the 2010s allowed fintechs to focus on growth without too much focus on profit. Recent developments might sharpen investors' minds, as they have elsewhere in the tech world.Rolles believes the banking issues of the past couple of weeks are as much about confidence as intrinsic issues. "Back in 2008, the whole bank run was triggered off by US subprime mortgages but actually the amount of crap in the US subprime market wasn't that big," Rolles said. "It was the fact that it triggered a lack of confidence and therefore a bank run."An <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/silicon-valley-bank-svb-first-social-media-bank-run-2023-3">SVB-style bank run</a> on neobanks, whose central customer base has been consumers, is unlikely. Some of these newer players <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/svb-rivals-pitch-startups-on-moving-money-out-bank-2023-3?r=US&amp;IR=T">have benefited from the SVB collapse</a> by seeing new demand from startups seeking to diversify where they hold their money.Even so, there's a huge difference between being "a really good consumer marketing company" that attracts users and a fully regulated bank that acts as a massive lender. Firms such as <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/444e9971-16f0-48ba-b4b6-ad970cc116c1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">buy-now, pay-later firm Klarna</a> and neobank Monzo <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/ec37b0b9-58da-4bd6-9b15-4ad176dfbb97" target="_blank" rel="noopener">are not recently profitable</a>, for example. Though global investment into fintech hit $75.2 billion last year, <a href="https://www.cbinsights.com/research/report/fintech-trends-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">per data from CB Insights</a>, it marked a 46% drop in funding levels seen in 2021. In a 2022 funding round, Klarna took an 85% valuation haircut. Dutch VC firm Finch Capital predicted in October 2021 that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/european-fintech-is-breaking-records-but-clouds-on-the-horizon-2021-10?r=US&amp;IR=T">the fintech bubble was set to burst</a>."Everyone knows it's quite expensive to run a digital neobank," Rolles said. "The business model is what, exactly? Is it deploying deposits really effectively and lending? I don't think a lot of them have done much lending yet."As Rolles notes, "actually building a lender" by dealing with a regulator, managing liquidity, hedging derivatives and overseeing short and long-dated assets is hard work. "Maturity transformation is an art and a very complicated game," he added. "It's never been clear that those skills are being developed in the fintech sector." What's at stake for the next wave of coronavirus vaccines

<ul class="summary-list"><li>During quarantine, people with means have turned to obsessive health tracking as a hobby.</li><li>Fitness tech startups raised a record $2.3B in 2020, <a href="https://www.cbinsights.com/research/">per CB Insights</a>, and connected fitness raised nearly $900M.</li><li>As people learn more about their bodies, they're letting the apps make lifestyle choices for them. </li></ul>When Adeline Cheng wakes up, she checks the app on her phone that's synced with the chunky titanium <keyword id="9121422" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="oura-ring">Oura ring</keyword> she wears to bed. While she slept, the ring measured her breathing, heart rate, body temperature, sleep quality, and movement. The Oura app displays her "readiness" score, meant to indicate how prepared her body is for activity that day. Combined with her "sleep" score and her "activity" score, Cheng is hoping for what's called a triple crown, meaning all three scores are above 85. Sometimes she gets it, she said."I do work out quite a bit, so sometimes my body says I'm not ready," she said. "And I'm not the greatest sleeper. That's why I got the ring."This data-heavy morning routine is a relatively new one for the 40-something Toronto bank executive. In the last year, she said she was looking for a way to redirect the energy she previously focused on office life and social gatherings. Like more than <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/pelotons-high-customer-satisfaction-cemented-its-cult-status-2020-9">4 million other people</a>, Cheng also picked up a <keyword id="240276" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Peloton">Peloton</keyword> habit."I think for a lot of people, health and wellness have become an important aspect of how they see themselves," Cheng said.The practice of tracking health metrics this closely, and purchasing the accessories to do so, has moved from locker rooms to living rooms over the last year. A category of apps, wearables, content, and workout equipment make up what's known as the <a href="https://insider.fitt.co/high-performance-lifestyle/">high-performance lifestyle (HPL) market</a>, which has seen a boom during the pandemic as people with disposable income increasingly turned to tech to optimize their performance.The last year has upended the the fitness industry's status quo. Companies scrambled to keep up with the surge in at-home fitness, using artificial intelligence (AI) to offer personalized workouts and real-time feedback.Fitness tech startups got the chance to snag a permanent foothold in the market. In 2020, they raised a record $2.3 billion, <a href="https://www.cbinsights.com/research/">per CB Insights</a>, a 30% increase from 2019. Several companies, such as fitness tracking app ​Strava​ and virtual training app Swift, hit unicorn status. The connected fitness equipment category has been one of the main drivers behind this boom, raising nearly $900 million in 2020 alone, Jake Matthews, senior intelligence analyst at CB Insights, told Insider.<div type="image" title="Peloton" height="632" width="696" msid="81379504" hostid="261"></div>Consider the popularity of Peloton, which saw monthly visits to its US site soar from two million in March 2020 to 10 million in November 2020, per Bank of America Research. An Oura spokesperson told Insider that ring sales doubled in the last year to a total of 300,000 since the company's launch in 2018."Looking forward, as these devices, along with wearables and fitness apps, collect more data on consumers' health and wellness, those that can use that data to create a more personalized, engaging, and effective fitness experience will be positioned to win," he said.This vast array of fitness companies collectively comprises the HPL sector. It spans several <keyword id="31671" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="markets">markets</keyword>, according to Anthony and Joe Vennare, who are brothers, investors, and cofounders of <a href="https://insider.fitt.co/">Fitt Insider:</a> The $13.5 billion self-improvement market, the $60 billion wearables market, the sports medicine market which is expected to surpass $9 billion by 2024, and the alternative medicine market which is poised to reach $296 billion by 2027. He catches flak for getting better sleep than his friends, despite going to bed later. "According to the Oura, I'm getting three hours of deep sleep every night," he said. "And they're like, 'How is that possible? You're going to bed after midnight, and I go to bed at like 11:00.'"Though Wanfang Wu, 28, said he uses the Oura mainly to track his sleep quality, he originally bought it to <a href="https://www.marketplace.org/2021/02/22/wearable-tech-shows-promise-early-covid-19-detection/?utm_campaign=20210223_Marketplace&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=sfmc_&amp;utm_content=&amp;utm_term=138951430m_term=138951430">detect early signs of COVID</a>. "My current hypothesis is I need a more comfortable bed and probably a more standardized sleep schedule," said Wu, who created an Excel spreadsheet to track how certain behavior changes affected his sleep. So far, he's tried dimming his lights after sunset, wearing blue light-blocking glasses for two hours before bed, using blackout curtains, drinking Yogi bedtime tea, and, most recently, a new mattress topper. "The glasses have helped me fall asleep faster," he said. "The curtains help me stay asleep longer, but my sleep efficiency has stayed the same - at 70. I am waiting to see if there are durable results from the mattress topper."Schneider-Sikorsky, who in addition to his Oura ring wears a Keyto breath meter, an Apple Watch, and an Abbott continuous glucose monitor, said he's noticed the days-long domino effect one evening of drinking alcohol has on his glucose levels, which in turn increases his hunger. "I didn't make those connections in normal real time, because I wasn't getting a hangover," she said. "I was ready for work the next day." Now, she said, the Oura data will tell her that even though she may feel okay, her body is still struggling to recover."My ring told me this morning that I was delayed in readiness. And it said, 'Did you have a late meal?' I did. "It allows me to see how certain activities help me or hinder me for the day ahead," she said. <h2>The quantified self as a status symbol</h2>Optimizing health through tech has unwittingly become a pandemic status symbol.Tech-health hobbies are something a small number of fortunate people have been able to do, said Elizabeth Currid-Halkett, author of "The Sum of Small Things," which charts <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/discreet-wealth-new-status-symbol-rich-people-2018-11">the rise of inconspicuous consumption</a> among the aspirational class.She told Insider that while many people have been under enormous anxiety and stress during the pandemic, turning to the Calm App to meditate during this time is very different than a grocery store worker not being paid enough and risking their life on an hourly job, without the time to zen out for 20 minutes a day."Weirdly, even those things that we've taken for granted as just simply keeping us sane in this time are still luxuries of being well off," she said. "They're very discreet pandemic-focused lifestyle choices, to be in your best health."It's a trend Currid-Halkett doesn't see going anywhere post-pandemic. "Those are things that people have turned to that will remain helpful in our lives," she said.Cheng, the Canadian bank executive, recognizes this and admits she's self-conscious about the Peloton bike, Oura ring, and Larq bottle she bought during the pandemic. "I do feel privilege guilt," she said. "I appreciate that I've become a walking cliche for upper-middle-class people."

At-home kits that let patients sample their stool offer an alluring promise: insight into what's going on inside our guts.Here, at the final stop on a highway of nerves that links our brains to our stomachs, are believed to lie the keys to new treatments for everything from digestive diseases like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) to mental illnesses like depression. Those treatments are focused on the microbiome, the massive community of bacteria in our guts. If the data from the microbiome can be turned into a useful health product, entrepreneurs and investors believe they could be onto the next big wellness trend, similar to the way genetic insights have been turned into a range of hot consumer products by the likes of 23andMe and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ancestry-ceo-margo-georgiadis-on-launch-of-health-dna-tests-2019-10">Ancestry</a>. But testing poop isn't quite as simple as spitting in a tube for a genetic test. Several startups including uBiome and Arivale tried and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ubiome-bankruptcy-ceases-operations-liquidates-chapter-7-2019-10">failed</a> to create microbiome-based health products. For the average healthy person, knowledge of the kinds of bacteria that live in their gut doesn't offer much in the way of practical use. And the insights, which can cost thousands of dollars per person, can be of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ubiome-poop-testing-startup-problems-science-microbiome-2019-8">highly variable quality</a>.But some investors see the promise of the microbiome as too great to abandon.High-profile venture capitalists including Vinod Khosla, Marc Benioff, and the venture arms of well-known healthcare companies including the Mayo Clinic and Johnson &amp; Johnson are all placing bets on microbiome startups that combine microbiome analysis with digital tracking.Unlike uBiome or Arivale, which targeted the everyday consumer, most of the new startups are narrowly focused on people with chronic diseases. For these people, who live with conditions like diabetes or irritable bowel syndrome, daily tracking is a must, and <a href="https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(15)01481-6">custom diets appear to help</a>.So the companies take the insights from the microbiome and combine them with digital monitoring tools to tell people how they're likely to respond to various foods. One goal is coming up with <a href="https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(15)01481-6">personalized diets</a> that significanly curb or completely eliminate their symptoms.<h2>Using digital health tools 'for what they were designed for'</h2><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Courtesy Kimon AngelidesKimon Angelides previously founded Livongo, the first digital health startup to go public in three years.</div></div></div>For Kimon Angelides, the cofounder and CEO of one such microbiome company called <a href="https://vivantehealth.com">Vivante Health</a>, the way to digestive health is through our phones.A serial entrepreneur with a PhD in biochemistry, Angelides previously helped start Livongo, a company that uses a suite of digital tools to help people with diabetes manage their condition. This summer, Livongo became the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/livongo-stock-price-digital-health-ipo-2019-7">first digital health startup to go public</a> in three years. It raised more than $350 million in its IPO, and has a market value of about $1.8 billion.Just as Livongo uses phones and computers to help people manage their diabetes symptoms, Vivante wants to use our devices to help people handle a broader class of digestive illnesses. That includes helping to eliminate the symptoms of hard-to-treat conditions like Crohn's and ulcerative colitis."Here we can actually help and use digital health therapeutics for what they were designed for," Angelides, who launched Vivante in 2016, told Business Insider. Like uBiome and Arivale, Vivante requires customers to submit a poop sample as part of its protocol to see whether certain strains of bacteria may be linked with certain digestive diseases. But where uBiome used a simple method to analyze the sample called 16S, Vivante uses a more consistent method known as shotgun analysis, Angelides said.Vivante has raised $8 million from investors including digital health venture firm Rock Health and Johnson &amp; Johnson's venture ecosystem, JLabs. It was recently valued at $27 million, according to Angelides. Overall, the digital health industry has seen $36.3 billion invested since 2011, <a href="https://rockhealth.com/reports/2019-midyear-digital-health-market-update-exits-are-heating-up/">Rock Health says</a>."You can't do anything about digestive health without looking at the microbiome," Angelides said.<h2>The microbiome is a lucrative challenge that companies are lining up to tackle</h2>Besides Vivante, several other startups are also using digital tools to tackle digestive illness, a generally <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/researchers-launch-marijuana-cbd-company-katexco-inflammatory-diseases-2018-10">overlooked disease area</a> with few good treatments. They include <a href="https://www.viome.com/">Viome</a>, which was founded in 2016 and counts Vinod Khosla and Marc Benioff among its backers, and and Mayo Clinic-backed <a href="http://www.daytwo.com/">DayTwo</a>, founded in 2015.Since 2014, 73 microbiome companies across five countries have raised $2.4 billion, according to <a href="https://cbinsights.com/research/microbiome-health-startups-market-map-expert-intelligence/%20">data</a> from the analytics firm CB Insights. While the US is the current market leader for microbiome startups, Canada, France, Israel, and the UK, are each home to at least four recently-founded microbiome companies.Johnson &amp; Johnson's venture ecosystem, the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/marijuana-drugs-fda-pharma-studying-marijuana-2018-3">JLabs Innovation network</a>, is leading the charge, according to CB Insights. It's backed both Vivante and DayTwo, along with 11 other microbiome startups.Microbiome patents are heating up too: while fewer than 20 microbiome patents were filed in 2013, 140 were filed in 2017, CB Insights says.Big pharma is showing interest in digital approaches to digestive health as well.In August, Lilly, known for making Viagra competitor Cialis and blockbuster depression drug Prozac, launched an open innovation challenge for digital health approaches to treat inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which includes Crohn's and ulcerative colitis. It's so sensitive to small tweaks in diet and exercise, in fact, that <a href="https://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/7/1/17">some studies have shown that</a> the <a href="https://www.mdpi.com/2076-2607/7/1/14">makeup of bacteria in the microbiome can change</a> on a daily basis.To uBiome and Arivale, the constant fluctuation of the microbiome was a problem. Both companies struggled to create sustainable business models and to prove the role the microbiome played in disease.But to Vivante's Angelides and to the team at DayTwo, the microbiome's wavering nature is a big opportunity.Since <a href="https://www.cell.com/cell-host-microbe/pdfExtended/S1931-3128(19)30250-1">each person responds to foods differently</a>, the platforms look at which foods worsen or improve someone's symptoms - what the companies call a food-as-medicine approach.Users track their symptoms alongside the foods they're eating, get paired with a licensed medical professional, and come up with a <a href="https://www.cell.com/cell/fulltext/S0092-8674(15)01481-6">personalized diet that's designed to help</a>."Almost every diet I've come across in my life is about saying 'no' to foods," Yonatan Machado, a director of ventures in Israel for Samsung Next, the technology company's venture arm, told Business Insider. But DayTwo isn't like that, he said.Instead, the platform helps him stay healthy by pointing out the right combinations of foods for his microbiome."It's about saying yes to food, but the right kind of food," Machado said. "That to me is [DayTwo's] 'aha' moment."<h2>'The next new wave' of consumer health innovation?</h2>In contrast to previous microbiome startups, Vivante and DayTwo market their tools narrowly to people with chronic conditions. This strategy helps the companies in several key ways, according to Machado and Angelides: it provides a clear benefit to customers, who can use the information they get from the platforms to immediately change what they eat, and it helps the companies bring in revenue while they build up a microbiome database for future uses."DayTwo has managed to find a single use case" - people with diabetes - "that's very valuable," Machado said.For his part, Angelides sees the microbiome as holding the keys to the "next new wave" of health innovation for consumers, after genetics. While DayTwo sells most of its products through health practitioners, Vivante goes through employers. Vivante has roughly 2,000 customers, Angelides said, and plans to start marketing its tools directly to consumers next year. DayTwo has 40,000 customers, Tread Childs, the director of DayTwo's health practitioner program, told Business Insider.For both Angelides and Machado, using Vivante or DayTwo have changed the way they think about food.As someone with IBS, Angelides was constantly trying to figure out which meals or snacks might trigger symptoms like gas and bloating, but he could never spot a pattern until he started tracking things consistently. Sales have been <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/liquidity-crunch-higher-insurance-costs-impact-two-wheeler-sales-in-dec/article25891881.ece">subdued</a> in recent months - an indication of rural distress since the bulk of <keyword id="6359451" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="motorcycle">motorcycle</keyword> and <keyword id="6359452" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Scooter">scooter</keyword> sales in the country come from outside urban areas. The market is also extremely heated -- incumbents are trying to outperform each other in terms of prices and product launches. But one company, TVS Motor Co, has overcome these hurdles with relative ease, posting a revenue growth of 26% in the quarter ended December 2018. That is well above the industry average of 8%, according to the company’s FY19 estimates shared over a recent conference call. The uptick is largely attributable to the Chennai-based motorcycle manufacturer’s improved product mix and a surge in export volumes, due in part to the rupee’s weakness and consolidation in markets like The Philippines, which it also serves. The company has also been rolling out a number of new models -- the Radeon motorcycle, the Jupiter Grand and Ntorq scooters as well as the latest version of the Apache motorcycle, which was a play at the growing premium segment. The fuel-efficient Radeon, in particular, was launched to meet the needs of commuters in rural India. Sales of the 110cc motorcycle, which currently clocks in 11,000 units a month, are expected to double, the company said on the analyst call. Priced at around ₹50,000, it is also a value play for cost-conscious commuters between the age of 25 and 35. When compared to other popular mid-sized commuter bikes like the <keyword id="7029" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hero">Hero</keyword> Splendor Plus and <keyword id="6358511" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bajaj">Bajaj</keyword> Platina, which are similarly priced, the Radeon stands out because it’s the latest entrant to the segment, it’s comfortable and boasts a better design, according to Sanjay Sharma, who runs KK Automobiles, a dealership in the Najafgarh on the outskirts of New Delhi. While its other models fare well for different reasons: At ₹86,000, the updated Apache was priced below its immediate competitors in the premium racing category - The Yamaha FZ and <keyword id="20630" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda">Honda</keyword> CB Hornet, both of which are a little under ₹1 lakh. Meanwhile, its smart scooter brand, the Ntorq, which was launched last February and is priced at a little over ₹60,000, carries a premium as it also India’s first smart scooter, meaning it allows pairing with smartphones. TVS has reportedly <a href="https://www.carblogindia.com/tvs-ntorq-sales/">sold over 20,000 </a>units of the scooter per month in the second half of the year, according to Car Blog India. Clearly pricing has been a strong selling point for TVS in recent months. However, going forward, it may be difficult to keep these products as affordable as they are. The company has already raised prices by an average of 0.9% between April and December 2018. TVS may have to contend higher raw material prices and marketing costs to stay ahead of rising competition, which could potentially trigger a price hike or crimp margins. A government regulation mandating the installation of an anti-lock braking system that comes into force in April could escalate costs further. This caused some discomfort and resistance in the beginning," Jin Jia, a professor of brain science at Ningbo University told the Post. "After a while they got used to the device... They wore it all day at work."Jin also said that employees' brainwaves can be enough for managers to send them home."When the system issues a warning, the manager asks the worker to take a day off or move to a less critical post. Some jobs require high concentration. There is no room for a mistake."Another type of sensor, built by technology company Deayea, is reportedly used in the caps of train drivers on the high-speed rail line between Beijing and Shanghai. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div>Deutsche Bank just announced a massive write down and the stock is down 7% after hours.The bank expects a third quarter loss of 6.2 billion euros ($6.96 billion).The board will recommend a cut and possible elimination of the dividend for the full year of 2015.The bulk of the write down is based on goodwill impairments driven by the impact of regulation on the bank.There is also a 600 million euro write down based on the value of Hua Xia Bank in China.In June, Deutsche Bank purged its leadership and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/deutsche-bank-just-purged-its-leadership-and-appointed-a-new-ceo-2015-6">appointed a new CEO, John Cryan</a>. He replaced then-co-CEO Anshu Jain, who resigned on June 30, and will become the sole CEO when the other co-CEO, Juergen Fitschen, steps down next year. <div>Here's <a href="https://www.db.com/ir/en/download/Adhoc_7_Oct_2015.pdf">the statement</a> from the bank:</div>Deutsche Bank (XETRA: DBKGn.DE/NYSE: DB) expects to incur charges that will materially impact third quarter 2015 results: - An impairment of all goodwill and certain intangibles in Corporate Banking &amp; Securities (CB&amp;S) and Private &amp; Business Clients (PBC) of approximately EUR 5.8 billion. This is largely driven by the impact of expected higher regulatory capital requirements on the measurement of the value of these segments as well as current expectations regarding the disposal of Postbank. - An impairment of the carrying value of Deutsche Bank's 19.99% stake in Hua Xia Bank Co. Ltd. of approximately EUR 0.6 billion. This reflects an updated valuation triggered by a change of the intent of the holding as Deutsche Bank no longer considers this stake to be strategic. - Litigation provisions of approximately EUR 1.2 billion, the majority of which are not expected to be tax deductible. Final litigation provisions in the quarter may be affected by further events before we finalize and report third quarter results. The impairment of goodwill and intangibles and of the Hua Xia investment will have no significant impact on Deutsche Bank's regulatory capital ratios. Deutsche Bank currently expects to report a fully-loaded CRR/CRD4 Common Equity Tier 1 ratio for the third quarter of approximately 11%, which includes the impact of European Banking Authority Regulatory Technical Standards ("Prudential Valuation") that were adopted in the quarter. Based on these charges, Deutsche Bank expects to report a third quarter income before income taxes (IBIT) loss of approximately EUR 6.0 billion and a net loss of EUR 6.2 billion. Year-to-date results through the third quarter are expected to be an IBIT loss of approximately EUR 3.3 billion and a net loss of EUR 4.8 billion.Excluding the impact of the impairment of goodwill and intangibles, the third quarter IBIT loss would be approximately EUR 0.2 billion and the net loss would be approximately EUR 0.4 billion, largely reflecting the litigation provisions and Hua Xia impairment. On the same basis, Deutsche Bank expects to remain profitable year-to-date through the third quarter with IBIT of approximately EUR 2.5 billion and net income of approximately EUR 0.9 billion. As part of the planning for the implementation of Strategy 2020, the Management Board will recommend a reduction or possible elimination of the Deutsche Bank common share dividend for the fiscal year of 2015. All the aforementioned amounts are estimates. Deutsche Bank just announced a massive write down and the stock is getting crushed

<div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image on-image"><a href="http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gustav_III,_King_of_Sweden,_and_his_brothers.jpg">Wikimedia Commons</a></div></div>Wall Street economists and strategists are revising their views on the <keyword id="6355253" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Federal-Reserve">Federal Reserve</keyword>'s most likely start date for tapering down its <keyword id="112402" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Quantitative-easing">quantitative easing</keyword> program in light of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/why-october-fomc-statement-is-hawkish-2013-10">surprise delivered by the October FOMC policy statement</a> released today.
Here's what they are saying.
Kevin Cummins, UBS: Today's statement also cut the reference to a "tightening in financial conditions observed in recent months", a reference we had trouble squaring with reality unless "financial conditions" was simply code for "mortgage rates". Presumably, officials are now happier with the recent decline in interest rates, especially mortgages. All in, there was nothing here to contradict our outlook for policy. With data likely to be muddied by collection difficulties, the first QE taper seems to be a question for Q1(14), with the Jan. 28-29 <keyword id="136502" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="FOMC">FOMC</keyword> meeting somewhat more likely than the March 18-19 meeting. (Note: A January announcement would likely mean the start of tapering in March, as the Fed's purchase schedule is announced in advance, so that the schedule for February purchases will likely exist by the Jan 30 Fed meeting.)
Steven Englander, Citi: The statement did not change much from September and in absolute terms there was no hawkish bias. However the market had moved far beyond the reaction to the September non-tapering surprise to pricing in tapering beginning no early than March and ending in end-2014 or early 2015. To justify this pricing you needed far more aggressive language than the Fed delivered. If anything, they lowballed on the disappointing incoming numbers (except a brief nod to weaker housing) and continued to use September language that emphasized the medium term economic improvement. Hence a dovish and pessimistic market was confronted by a Fed looking at the bright side of life. If anything, with Beige Book having characterized growth as 'modest to moderate', the unadorned 'moderate' in the Statement comes across as confident.
Chris Rupkey, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ: In September they tacked on a caveat to the diminished risks sentence saying tighter financial conditions, "higher mortgage rates," if sustained, could slow the pace of improvement in the economy and labor market. That must mean something, that they dropped that warning. They must be somewhat more confident about the outlook. Net net, we are not going to buy in to the idea that the Fed will wait to taper until March or June next year. The economy is not going to go off the rails because of the uncertainty down in Washington. We have two more monthly employment reports before the December meeting and if even one is a 200K jobs number, we think they taper in December. Again, they dropped the reference to tighter financial market conditions, that's got to mean something. They must be somewhat more confident about the outlook.
Aneta Markowska, Société Générale: Overall, the FOMC seems satisfied with recent progress, and is relieved that some of the risks have failed to materialize. The committee sees the underlying growth (ex fiscal restraint) as having strengthened gradually since the launch of QE. Their bias is clearly towards tapering, the only question is when. The Fed has once again decided to wait for more evidence that progress will be sustained before reducing the pace of asset purchases. We now see the March meeting as the most likely timeframe for the first tapering announcement. December is not out of the question, but with the October data distorted by the government shutdown, it is unlikely that the Fed will have enough clarity before year-end.
Jan Hatzius, Goldman Sachs: The October FOMC statement was just a bit more hawkish than expected. The FOMC's overall assessment of the economy was only marginally changed in the face of recent events, tighter financial conditions were no longer listed as an explicit worry, and there was no shift in language to more directly indicate a later expected date of the first reduction in asset purchases.
Paul Ashworth, Capital Economics: The latest policy statement from the Fed today is remarkable for what it omits rather than includes. Despite the wall-to-wall coverage in the financial markets and media of the two-week Federal government shutdown, particularly what impact it had on the economy, and the new uncertainty over whether a second shutdown could be triggered early next year, the FOMC statement doesn't make a single clear reference to it. Not one. It's like the whole thing never happened. The only cryptic reference is to the "available data" when assessing the recent incoming economic data...But if officials are trying to downplay the impact of the shutdown and are happier with the level of long-term interest rates, then perhaps a December taper isn't quite as out of the question as we had previously thought. We still think sometime early next year is the most likely outcome, but the balance of risks just shifted a little.
Kit Juckes, Société Générale: Fears about what happens as a result of higher bond yields have gone, but the housing market recovery has stalled. This is 'dovish' I suppose but I don't suppose there is a single economist, strategist, journalist, trader or barman who expected anything less dovish. The market therefore, sees this is a slightly hawkish light and the DXY rebound continues...But honestly folks, this is the most dovish CB out there simply failing to surpass expectations. For choice I look for the dollar rebound to go a bit further, and long USD/CAD is my favourite way to express that, while receiving USD and EUR rates after a day of soft inflation numbers which will slowly filter down into folks' rate expectations in the coming days.
Andrew Wilkinson, Miller Tabak: The message from the Fed is that the economy remains on course for recovery and that it sees the downside risks to the outlook for the economy and the labor market as having diminished, on net, since last fall. The Fed is on hold, but the tone of the statement and the failure to bend on account of the government shutdown is very likely to bring forward the market's timetable of tapering from March where we feel the pendulum has swung too far. It would seem the Fed's approach is extremely balanced and that members are taking a level-headed view of the impact of interruptions to the economy. We believe that the central bank does not want to confuse the market by chopping and changing its view at a micro level. A bigger change might come for example should their be failure to agree on budget measures that would threaten further the ability of the government to remain open.
