HCL chief Vijayakumar, other sr executives join USIBC

IT firm <keyword id="30331" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Technologies">HCL Technologies</keyword> on Monday posted a 9.9 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 3,214 crore for the June 2021 quarter, and said it expects double-digit growth in constant currency revenue in FY22. The IT major had registered a net profit of Rs 2,925 crore in the April-June 2020 quarter (as per US GAAP), <keyword id="28126" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL">HCL</keyword> Technologies said in a regulatory filing. Its revenue grew 12.5 per cent to Rs 20,068 crore in the quarter under review, from Rs 17,841 crore in the corresponding period last year. "We posted 11.7 per cent year-on-year revenue growth in constant currency and 29 per cent y-o-y growth in Mode 2 services in constant currency headlined by <keyword id="11674205" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="cloud-and-digital">Cloud and Digital</keyword> transformation deals. "We remain very confident of a good quarter-on-quarter growth for the rest of this year, enabled by 37 per cent y-o-y growth in bookings and 7,500-plus net hiring this quarter," HCL Technologies President and CEO <keyword id="819570" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="C-Vijayakumar">C Vijayakumar</keyword> said. In constant currency terms, HCL Tech's revenue in the June 2021 quarter grew 11.7 per cent year-on-year, the filing said. "Revenue (is) expected to grow in double digits in constant currency for FY'22...EBIT margin (is) expected to be between 19 per cent and 21 per cent for FY'22," it added. The company's first-quarter TCV (total contract value) of new deal wins was at USD 1,664 million, up 37 per cent year-on-year. In dollar terms, HCL Technologies' net income was up 12.8 per cent at USD 43 million in the June 2021 quarter, while revenue was higher by 15.5 per cent at USD 2,719.6 million in the reported quarter over the year-ago period. The <keyword id="136326" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Board-of-Directors">Board of Directors</keyword> has declared an interim dividend of Rs 6 per equity share for the financial year 2021-22. The Record date of July 28, 2021, has been fixed for the payment of the interim dividend. At the end of the June 2021 quarter, HCL had 1,76,499 employees with a net addition of 7,522 people. Its attrition for IT services (on last 12-month basis) was at 11.8 per cent. HCL remains confident on 'good' quarterly growth for the rest of this financial year, declares a dividend of ₹6 per share

New Delhi, Jan 19 () IT services firm HCL Technologies is betting on strong demand across sectors, including manufacturing and retail, to continue its growth momentum in the coming quarters.
 The company, which posted 15.5 per cent rise in revenue in the December quarter, is also seeing strong growth in the European and US markets.
 "Our pipeline is very strong. And we're also pretty confident of the conversion rates. As we speak, we're looking large deals. So overall, I'm positive," HCL Technologies President and CEO C Vijayakumar told .
 He added that sectors like manufacturing, retail and CPG (consumer packaged goods) look quite strong.
 "On financial services, we are a little bit cautious because European banks...there is still some decline in spends in some of our customers," he said, adding that Europe overall is performing well for the company.
 On the back of the strong growth, the company has narrowed its revenue growth outlook to 16.5-17 per cent for 2019-20 in constant currency terms from its previous forecast of 15-17 per cent top line growth.
 In the December quarter, growth was led by manufacturing at 38.1 per cent year-on-year, energy, utility and public services at 31.3 per cent, retail CPG at 16.9 per cent, financial services at 16.8 per cent, and telecom and media at 13.6 per cent.
 In terms of geographies, the US, Europe and Rest of World (RoW) experienced double digit growth on a year-on-year basis in constant currency.
 RoW lead the growth with 27.3 per cent year-on-year growth in constant currency.
 Vijayakumar pointed out that the company is also expanding its presence in geographies like Canada, South Africa and Middle East.
 Talking about deal sizes, he said, "I think, in 2019, we had a lot of large deals where billion dollar deals were coming".
 "I don't see that but maybe still quite large, say USD 200 to 500 million," he added. SR RVK

HCL Tech expects strong demand across sectors in coming quarters

New Delhi, Jan 17 () IT major HCL Technologies on Friday posted a 13 per cent rise in its consolidated net profit at Rs 2,944 crore for the December 2019 quarter.
 The company had registered a net profit of Rs 2,605 crore in the year-ago period as per Indian Accounting Standards, HCL Technologies said in a statement.
 Its revenue from operations grew 15.5 per cent to Rs 18,135 crore in the quarter under review, from Rs 15,699 crore in the year-ago period.
 The company has revised its revenue growth outlook to 16.5 -17 per cent for 2019-20 from its previous forecast of 15-17 per cent topline growth in constant currency terms.
 HCL Technologies' board has declared a dividend of Rs 2 per share.
 "We continue our stellar performance over the years and have now crossed a revenue run rate of USD 10 billion this quarter. Our revenues have grown 16.4 per cent year-on-year in constant currency and we have delivered a strong 20.2 per cent earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT)," HCL Technologies President and CEO C Vijayakumar said.
 He added that within two quarters of its inception, HCL Software has already onboarded 4,600 customers.
 "I am pleased that our results continue to validate and reinforce our growth, profitability and investment strategies," Vijayakumar said.
 In dollar terms, the net profit grew 17.2 per cent to USD 426.5 million for the December 2019 quarter, while revenue surged by 15.5 per cent to USD 2.5 billion as compared to the year-ago period, as per the US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
 The company added 11,502 employees (gross) during the quarter to take its total head count to 1,49,173 at the end of the December 2019 quarter. Attrition on last 12-month basis stood at 16.8 per cent.

The average numbers last year were 6% at offshore and 2.5% onsite. This is a step up from last year when the company added around 8,100 freshers overall. In the second quarter, HCL Tech added an overall 2,798 employees to its roster between July and September, of which 1,578 were freshers. “This is lower than what we anticipated because of COVID-19 situation and the low availability of people,” said Apparao. In the first quarter, the number of freshers added was around 1,200. Many students in line with offer letters were not onboarded yet since their final exams were postponed during the lockdown. Nonetheless, it still means there’s still a deficit of around 9,000 freshers before HCL Tech can meet its target. Yesterday, the Forbes fourth annual list of the ‘Forbes best employers’ ranked HCL Tech as the 30th best employer globally in 2020. This puts it among the top multinationals headquartered in India for employees. Vijayakumar lauded the company’s employees for being one of the five primary factors that led to the IT services behemoth’s growth despite the impact of COVID-19.

<ul><li><keyword id="141968" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Tech">HCL Tech</keyword> is encouraging its employees to come into the office for work, at least one day a week over the next three months. </li><li>By the end of December, they hope to achieve 20% workforce occupancy in their offices. </li><li>In an exclusive interview with Business Insider India, <keyword id="30331" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Technologies">HCL Technologies</keyword> CHRO Apparao VV explains who can come back to work, precautionary measures, and whether or not the canteen will be open. </li></ul>COVID-19 may still be looming large but HCL Technologies believes it has the right tools in place to help its employees come back to offices — one day a week at a time. “We’re telling employees to come at least once in a week to start with, and probably by December, you can do one or two days in a week,” Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Apparao VV told Business Insider in an exclusive interview. The company is currently operating with around 5% to 6% of its staff in office. By December, they hope to bring the overall number up to 20%. Not everyone is being asked to come back to work HCL Tech may be looking to get its offices hustling with activity again, but they’re not asking everyone to come back to work. Employees who have children below the age of five, or parents older than 50 years old can continue to work from home. And employees who are older than 50 to 55 years are also exempt. Apparao explained that this plan will be implemented in phases. And, on no given day will any of the company's development centres exceed 20% capacity. Floor marshalls and pre-ordered meals In preparation for people returning to work, HCL Tech has removed chairs to ensure that at least 3 feet of distance is maintained. Common rooms are getting cleaned up, cabs are being arranged and even ‘floor marshalls’ have been designated to ensure enforcement of discipline. “We won’t be leaving anything to chance,” said Apparao. Even when it comes to eating food, employees have to log in the previous night, and share their preferences. Because of the pandemic, only vendors will provide the food. The options may be a little limited, but it’s a necessary precaution. <ul><li>TCS and HCL Tech said that they have over a 100 <keyword id="17930214" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="genai" source="Orion">genAI</keyword> opportunities in the pipeline.</li><li>They also won a few projects, most of which are in the proof-of-concept or pilot stages.</li><li>Tech companies said they built large-scale genAI capabilities, and are ready to take on projects. </li></ul>Less than a year after ChatGPT was launched, Indian tech majors have started bagging generative AI projects. Even in times when demand is slow, discretionary spends are elusive, the new-age technology is bringing work as well as excitement into the IT outsourcing market. Although the size of the deals is small at the moment, genAI has ‘captured the imagination’ of clients, say top executives of Indian IT companies. TCS and HCL Tech said that most of their <keyword id="19151325" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="genai-projects" source="Orion">genAI projects</keyword> are proof-of-concept or pilot stages. “Deal sizes are small and are mostly under $1 million where clients are trying them out. But there is potential to convert a part of our Jaguar Land Rover with AI and ML capabilities,” said N Ganapathy Subramaniam, COO of TCS at the company’s Q2 earnings press conference. HCL Tech’s MD C Vijayakumar too shared that most of the genAI deals they are bagging are either half a million or sub-$1 million deals. But they are currently working on a hundred such opportunities. “We have been selected as a partner by this very large software major for their product testing and sustenance efforts. We are providing GenAI on a private language model to improve resolution rate and speed efficiency,” said Vijayakumar. Infosys CEO Salil Parekh also shared that they are working on some proprietary large language models (LLMs). “AI is a part of almost every deal we do. And, GenAI is getting there. As it expands and more and larger enterprises get into it, it will be very exciting,” he added. A catalog of AI opportunities A few months back, all tech majors announced big moves in the generative AI space. Wipro announced that it will spend as much as $1 billion over three years to build capabilities. TCS, HCL Tech partnered with software major NVIDIA to skill their employees. As of September end, TCS said that they have 100,000-strong GenAI-ready workforce. They said they also have as many as 250 Gen AI opportunities in the pipeline. “When we started generative AI, they were all about knowledge discovery. As clients understand more, the genAI is getting more complicated. We are now working for a co-pilot for a financial advisor on what advice to give clients, help underwriting policies,” explaining K Krithivasan, CEO of TCS. TCS said that it has identified opportunities across various verticals, identified use cases and cataloged them per vertical. With that it says that it’s planning to go and engage with clients and have conversations on the same. “With this, we can have conversations with our clients – be in CRM or payments space and wealth advisory and other use cases,” explained Ganapathy. HCL Tech too is working on use cases related to banking and financial sector. “We signed a generative AI deal with a to improve their risk and compliance efforts – which is a very big effort in financial services. There are a lot of transactions happening on this front, and we have discussed how we can help,” said Vijayakumar. The buzz for cost optimization and automation deals has gone up in the last few months. Clients are looking to ramp down their expenses and intend to use tech to help with their overall cost reduction efforts. As automation gains ground, AI and ML will find more use cases – and most tech companies are confident that a little of it can spill into the new and emerging area of GenAI as well.
