It also said it would be "reviewing the EU ban on markings and sales in imperial units and legislating in due course, none of which were possible within the EU."Under the EU, supermarkets in the UK were required to list measurements for fruits and vegetables in the metric system, such as grams and kilograms, starting in 1994. However, the EU allowed Britain to use imperial measurements alongside metric, according to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/17/world/europe/imperial-measurements-pounds-ounces-return.html">The New York Times</a>.Most of the world uses the metric system of weights and measurements. It’s just a few hours left for the final voting on '<keyword id="6355333" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Brexit">Brexit</keyword>' (Britain's exit) from the European Union, and the Indian government has said that it is prepared for all results, given that we have strong economic fundamentals and enough foreign exchange reserves. 
 "We are living in times where all countries which are globalised have to bear the impact," <keyword id="3438438" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indias-Finance-Secretary">India’s Finance Secretary</keyword> <keyword id="124932" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ashok-Lavasa">Ashok Lavasa</keyword> said. 
 
Most of the polls conducted in the UK showed a tough race, however, the 'remain' camp has come out to be marginally ahead of the 'exit' group, while a sizeable proportion also remained undecided. 
 
The results of the final votings will most likely be available by late Thursday night. 
 
"We will take whatever measures are required. We need not be duly alarmed. If it happens we must learn to deal with it," Lavasa told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/policy/india-prepared-to-face-brexit-verdict-says-government/articleshow/52876584.cms">ET</a>. 
 <keyword id="6359111" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shaktikanta-Das">Shaktikanta Das</keyword>, the Economic Affairs Secretary, stated that there are indications that Brexit won't happen; however, if that happens, India is well prepared for the results. He went ahead to give three reasons behind India’s ability to bear the expected global financial turmoil which is bound to happen if Brexit happened. These are: sufficient foreign exchange reserve of $360 billion, India continuing to be an attractive FDI destination globally and minimal likely impact on India's trade. 
 
"If there is any currency volatility, we should be able to deal with that situation," Das added. 
 
India's current account deficit narrowed to 1.1% of GDP in 2015-16 from 1.3% from a year ago. 
 
Talking of India’s relations with the UK, we exported $8.8 billion worth of goods to the UK last fiscal and imported goods worth $5.2 billion. British companies have invested big in India; however, the recent years have seen these inflows slowing down, since in 2015-16, UK invested less than $1 billion in India.

But we can only make progress through negotiations if the EU are willing to change the protocol itself — at the moment they aren't."Speaking earlier the same day, Johnson insisted the proposals were "not a big deal," telling broadcasters that legislation was a way to remove "bureaucratic barriers" hindering trade from Britain to Northern Ireland. As well as creating a "red lane" for goods destined for the EU and a "green lane" for those remaining in Northern Ireland, the bill would end the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice on trade disputes. Both of these have been key demands unionist in Northern Ireland, led by the DUP. But the move has been met with widespread opposition, most significantly from officials in Brussels, who are now considering three different types of legal action. Maros Sefcovic, the vice president of the European Commission and Brussels' chief negotiator, <a href="https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/STATEMENT_22_3698">said the UK's move was of "significant concern"</a>, and that the UK's "unilateral action is damaging to mutual trust."He said the commission would consider restarting an "infringement procedure" that had been on hold since September, and would take unspecified new action "protect the EU Single Market from the risks that the violation of the Protocol creates".Sefcovic warned that if the UK pushed ahead with the legislation, it would undermine "the trust that is necessary for bilateral EU-UK cooperation within the framework of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement" — a veiled threat signalling a potential trade war.
