Thai Police has taken into custody two Indians for questioning as they were seen in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=CCTVs+">CCTV</a> footages talking to a foreign suspect wanted in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Raghuram-Rajan-is-doing-good-work/articleshow/48712160.cms">Thailand's deadliest bombing</a>, which killed more than 20 people last month, at a <keyword id="412527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Brahma-temple">Brahma temple</keyword>. 
 
"Nothing is really known so far about the Indians and it is not clear what the questioning is about," sources told PTI. 
 
The name of the two Indians has not been disclosed so far. They were taken away for questioning after Assistant Police Commissioner General Prawut Thawornsiri led 20 police and troops to search the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Raghuram-Rajan-is-doing-good-work/articleshow/48712160.cms">Maimuna Garden Home apartment in Minburi</a> at 9 p.m. on Sunday night. 
 
Two Indians were staying in the room next to the one where police found bomb making materials. 
 
A foreigner who lived at the room and a Thai woman who rented the room for him are also wanted in the case. 
 
Thai Police is closely combing areas in search of people behind the August 17 bomb blast at the popular Erawan Brahma Shrine which also injured more than 100 others. 
 
On Sunday, a combined force of police and army officers raided several buildings and rented houses in Min Buri district. 
 
The raid was part of crime suppression measures as many foreigners rent apartments and houses in the area, said Coloner Wattana Yichin, deputy commander of the Metropolitan Police overseeing Min Buri police station. 
 
Police so far have issued <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/indiainsider">arrest warrants</a> for ten suspects in connection with the case. 
 
Two foreign suspects have been arrested. One of them was carrying a Chinese passport. 
 
Meanwhile, a suspect who was arrested near the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/indiainsider">Cambodia</a> border identified as Yusufu Meralli, told military interrogators he assembled the bomb for the actual bomber, who is yet to be nabbed. 
 
The first man arrested, Adem Karadak, also known as Bilal Mohammed, has been shifted from military custody to prison. 
 Meralli admitted he assembled the bomb before handing it to a yellow-shirted suspect who was seen on <keyword id="6354857" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="CCTV">CCTV</keyword> at the shrine leaving behind a backpack which would have had the explosive device.

Thai bombing case: Two Indians taken into custody for interrogation

NEW DELHI: PM <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> will look to cement strategic and defence cooperation with Japan when he meets his counterpart <keyword id="590894" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Shinzo-Abe">Shinzo Abe</keyword> on Monday for crucial summit talks. In a move not likely to go unnoticed in Beijing, India is all set to ink an agreement for supply of rare earth metals to Japan and another MoU for defence exchanges. 
 
Japan, which depends on China for most of its supply of rare earth metals, has been looking to diversify its supply sources. It sought cooperation from India over rare earths in 2012 after a fracas with China over Senkaku/Diaoyu islands which saw Beijing temporarily halting rare earth exports to Japan. 
 
The two countries are expected to announce a joint partnership for infrastructure development in India with a major contribution from Japan. They are also likely to upgrade their 2+2 dialogue over overlapping security and defence issues to the ministerial level. India will also look to announce some progress in its negotiations with Japan for nuclear cooperation. 
 Modi arrived in <keyword id="4741" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tokyo">Tokyo</keyword> on Sunday evening after a Kyoto heritage tour. Modi's visit is already being hailed as an outstanding success after Abe's gesture of flying to Kyoto to receive him there on Saturday. Modi on Sunday visited two ancient Buddhist temples in Kyoto in Abe's company.

Dressed in an all-white kurta pyjama, sleeveless jacket and white sandals, Modi offered prayers at the two prominent Buddhist temples in Kyoto — Toji and Kinkakuji. Official sources said Modi wearing white was a statement about peace and tranquility associated with Buddhism, an Indian “connect'' to Japan. 
 
He first went to Toji temple, which is inspired, as Modi told Abe, by the trinity of Hindu gods Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Modi was at the temple complex for about half-an-hour during which he enquired about the history of the eighth-century Buddhist pagoda. 
 
While leaving the complex, Modi thanked Abe for accompanying him to the temple and spending time with him. Abe, on his part, told Modi that this was only the second time that he had visited Toji temple, the last being during his student days. 
 
In Kinkakuji, Modi mingled with tourists and visitors, shook hands, pulled the ears of a child and posed for photographs with groups of people.

Abe lauds deep India-Japan historical ties 
 
Lauding Japan's deep historical ties with India, Abe said he was looking forward to the summit meeting with Modi after they spent time together visiting Buddhist temples. “Looking forward to seeing PM Modi again in Tokyo tomorrow,” the Japanese PM tweeted. 
 
In a series of tweets on Sunday, Abe spoke about his nation's “deep historical ties” with India. “I am very glad that PM Modi enjoyed the cultural heritage of Japan's ancient capital, Kyoto,” Abe tweeted.

When Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Toji temple on Sunday morning, a lotus attached to a statue of Lord Buddha stood out, much to his amusement. 
 
Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, who was accompanying Modi during the tour of the ancient temple, wanted to explain the significance of the lotus. 
 
He started detailing the significance and was midway when an amused Modi pointed out that he knows about it. “I know its significance. It is the symbol of my party (BJP),” he told Abe and both had a laugh. 
 Modi did not elaborate but during the campaign for <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> polls, he left no stone unturned in advertising the symbol. In the end, BJP got a landslide victory in the elections.

On the day of the counting, the strong rooms will be opened in the presence of candidates, their authorized representatives, Returning Officers (ROs)/Assistant Returning Officers (AROs), and ECI observers, with videography conducted. Mobile phones will not be allowed inside the counting centres. During the process, only authorized individuals, officials, or staff will be permitted inside and around the counting centres. People and political party representatives have been requested not to crowd the counting centres and check the results at home. The results will be available on the Election Commission of India's website http://results.eic.in/ and through the Voter Helpline App. Exit polls have predicted that Congress is poised to win Haryana and that the National Conference-Congress alliance has an edge in Jammu and Kashmir. Activities like singing the praises of Lord Shiva, listening to the glorious stories of Shiva, walking barefoot to the Shiva temple over long distances, visiting as many Shiva temples as possible in one night, and many other activities take place during Shivratri. Shivratri puja can be performed at homes. If Shivling is available at home, one can douse it with water from the Ganges; rose water, sandalwood paste, turmeric, sacred ash, coconut water, panchamrit, honey, fragrant materials, milk, curd and others. The whole night can be divided into segments and holy bath can be performed. At the end of the puja, specially prepared dishes are offered to Shiva. Garlands, flowers, coconut, fruits, dry fruits, and others are offered to Lord Shiva. The puja concludes with an arati and distribution of prasad to the invitees and family members.

Navratri is celebrated for nine nights and ten days during autumn across India. The Hindu festival is celebrated for various reasons in different parts of the country. However, the one thing it has in common is celebrating Maa Durga and her power. Navratri always occurs in the months of Ashvin or Ashvina, which generally falls between September and October as per the lunar calendar. In 2020, Navratri will kick off on Saturday, October 17, and come to an end on Sunday, October 25 — typically celebrated as Dussehra or the tenth day. The first day is indicated by Amavasya, or a new moon, which marks the beginning of the Navratri puja. The last day of Navratri is also known as Vijayadasami. Navratri puja deities In most parts of the country, the nine nights of Navratri are dedicated to worshipping the nine forms of Ma Durga — Shilaputri, Brahmacharni, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalratri, Maha Gauri, and Siddhidatri. However, some divide the days between Ma Durga, Lakshmi — the goddess of wealth and prosperity — and Saraswati, revered for knowledge, music, art, wisdom, and nature. The first three days of Navratri are dedicated to worship Goddess Durga, the next three days are reserved to worship Goddess Lakshmi, and the third set of three days for Goddess Saraswati. How to celebrate Navratri Navratri puja is usually done daily during the nine days of Navratri, most often in the evenings after sunset. The first Navratri puja is usually the Ganpati puja. Following this, the presiding deities of Navratri puja are worshipped on various days, depending on different traditions. The underlying commonality between all forms of the puja is honoring Maa Durga. During the puja, devotees honor the goddess by performing rituals and worshipping an idol or picture of her. Different dishes are prepared and offered to the deity on each day. At the end of the daily puja, prasad is offered, and aarti is conducted — a form of puja where lights/Diya is offered to the deity. Some choose to perform the puja within their homes, while others participate with the community at a temple. This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the imposed norms of social distancing, it's likely that most devotees will avoid leaving the house. The biggest and grandest puja of them all happens on the last day of Vijayadashami. It marks the culmination of Navratri. In pre-COVID times, Navratri's ten-day-long celebrations included dancing, music programs, dramas, fairs, and other events. Navratri fasting During Navratri, some people choose to observe a fast for all the nine days in honour of the deities. The fasting starts in the morning and lasts till the evening. After the daily puja, people break the fast by partaking in the prasad offered to the deity. Navratri Kolu In some regions, Navratri Kolu or the dolls of gods and goddesses are arranged on a multi-tier pedestal made during Navratri. The number of steps in the whole arrangement can be three, five, seven, or nine. These steps are covered with decorative clothes and dolls of goddesses, gods, humans, heroes, animals, toys, and others in a hierarchical order and decorated for the event. The Kolu is arranged on the first day of Navratri with a Kalash or Purna Kumbh. The set up remains in the puja room for nine days and dismantled after the Vijayadashami puja. The story of Navratri The legend goes that once upon a time, there was a demon called Mahishasura who had the face of a buffalo. This resulted from a powerful boon he received from Lord Brahma, according to which a male human or animal could not defeat Mahishasura. Because of that clause, Maa Durga was the only one who could defeat him and end the atrocities done by the demon to save the world. Maa Durga fought with the demon for nine days, and these nine days are known and celebrated as Navratri. On the final day of Vijayadashami, Maa Durga defeated the demon and saved the world. This is a festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil.

There are at least 20 Hindu deities that are regularly worshiped in Japan, even as some of them have long been forgotten in India. Amongst the deities worshipped in Japan, one can see the idols of Saraswati, Lakshmi, Indra, Brahma, Ganesha, Garuda and others. 
 A unique photo exhibition of art-historian Benoy Behl that is being held at the Indian Museum of Japan would throw light on the India’s long lost history surviving in the faraway land. These photographs reveal the importance that the Indian heritage holds in <keyword id="414952" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Japanese-culture">Japanese culture</keyword>. 
 
To name some of these references, the 6th century Siddham script which has disappeared from India is preserved in Japan. Along with this, 'Beejaksharas' (or etymology of alphabets) of Sanskrit in this script are also revered in the Japanese culture. 
 
Similarly, some Japanese tombs are adorned with the Sanskrit alphabets and even though people there don’t understand it, they worship them nonetheless. 
 
Behl's research revealed that there is a school in Koyasan where Sanskrit is taught in the Siddham script. 
 
A good number of Japanese words originate from Sanskrit, a major brand of Japanese milk products Sujata, finds its name from Buddha’s story. 
 
"In many ways, this philosophic understanding is most well preserved in Japan. Japan has not had the breakdown of cultural norms which India suffered when a colonial education system was created. Therefore, most Indians learnt about our own culture from the Western point of view. The dominant and admired language was English, which it remains till today," Indian Museum education officer Sayan Bhattacharya told TOI. 
 
The exhibition is all set to explain the unique relationship that India has with Japan. 
 
"The deep-rooted spirit of the Buddha's teachings energizes the Japanese people. Buddhist temples are numerous and vast numbers of people visit these every day. Besides the Buddha, many ancient Indian deities and practices (prevail) in their temples. An Indian feels quite at home in Japan," Behl wrote in his research.
