Thirty-six-year-old Saurabh Turakhia was always inclined towards <keyword id="1105" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="art">art</keyword> while he was growing up, like any other child. He looked as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=art&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">art</a> as nothing but just another hobby. 
 
That notion changed when a neighbourhood teacher, Mrs Soparkar started to teach him and some of his friends how to draw. 
 
“It was under her guidance that art began to grown on me,” Turakhia claims. 
 
For years later, he tried keeping up with his hobby as much as possible, but it was only in 2007 that he gave art a permanent room in his daily life. 
 
 
 
“I was recovering from a terrible setback at that time and found it very difficult to reconcile with the situation at hand. Even though I had a full-time job, surviving the lonely hours after work was over was a struggle. I soon realised that I couldn’t depend on friends to meet everyday and I really needed to let go of angst and it was then that I decided to turn my hobby into a passion.” 
 
Since then he’s been actively sketching and finally took to painting in 2010. 
 
 
 Living in a <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> country like India and consuming Bollywood movies by the minute, choosing to draw portraits of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bollywood&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Bollywood</a> celebrities was an obvious decision. 
 
“Despite the criticism that the Hindi film industry faces now and then for the kind of movies it churns out, Bollywood’s charm has always worked on me since childhood. Moreover I’m deeply inspired by movies like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=amar+akbar+anthony&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Amar Akbar Anthony</a>, Meri Jung and Karma,” he explains. 
 
 
He soon started putting his work on social media and garnered accolades from across the country. Getting recognition from the media and receiving praises for his work from stalwarts like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=amitabh+bachchan&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Amitabh Bachchan</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=vidya+balan&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vidya Balan</a>, <keyword id="6533" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anupam-Kher">Anupam Kher</keyword> among others on Twitter gave him enough motivation to continue his calling. 
 
“In a way, I felt vindicated,” he tells me. 
 
 
 
As luck would have it, his social media popularity also got him the opportunity of learning the art of caricature from none other than Vivek Thakkar, the famous caricature artist whose work appeared in Cineblitz. 
 
Turakhia who is a full-time writer wishes to take up art full time once he retires, with the aim to break the myth that art can’t be considered as a full-time occupation. 
 
 
 
“The main reason I want my art to make money is so that anyone who’s inclined to take this path as his career should not face any hesitation from his parents whatsoever,” he concludes.

The viral video starring <keyword id="598" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deepika-Padukone">Deepika Padukone</keyword> is the third in line for the <keyword id="2785822" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vogue-Empower">Vogue Empower</keyword> campaign by <keyword id="214428" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vogue-India">Vogue India</keyword>. The first two videos for the campaign had a sense of connection attached with them, which was why we were really looking forward to the third instalment. 
 
‘Going Home’ starring Alia Bhatt and directed by Vikas Bahl got us thinking about a perfect society where a woman is not afraid of asking for a lift from a group of strangers in the late hours of the night. 
 
Similarly, ‘Start With The Boys’ starring Madhuri Dixit and directed by Vinil Mathew touched the right chords when it asked the parents to raise boys who don’t make women cry, instead of raising boys who don’t cry. 
 The third video by <keyword id="27704" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Homi-Adajania">Homi Adajania</keyword> however, talks about the same old topic of liberating women from the cages that our society has created for them. The idea behind the video was to show 99 women in from different walks of life in a 2-minute video. As far as that is concerned, the video looks okay, like many others that have been made on or around the same topic, but if you listen too closely, the video wouldn’t make much sense to a common Indian woman. 
 The video starts with a sans-makeup Deepika and her frizzy hair, talking about the spirit that can’t be bound in clothes, and the many faces of privileged women dancing contemporary. We also see some known faces, like Adhuna Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, Scherezade Shroff and <keyword id="6366186" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nimrat-Kaur">Nimrat Kaur</keyword>. 
 
The makers have talked about women voicing their choice for equality, be it social, political, economic, sexual, and it sounds acceptable if we don’t go in the details, which unfortunately we have to because of Deepika’s constant voice-over in the background without which the video is nothing but a collection of some 90 portraits. 
 
Talking of the details, she demands the equality of having sex without marriage, outside of marriage or not having sex at all. 
“Just because you are a woman doesn't mean you can make choices that please you without caring a zilch about people around you. We have never taken responsibilities to protect and provide off men's shoulders so this whole freedom of choice to women just because they are women is nothing but asking freedom to do things that have always been labelled "wrong" when done by men. The effort seems to compete with men at any cost possible. Men and women are differently equal and never completely equal. Choices come with responsibilities. Hope young women realize that. Sex outside marriage isn't a choice but a mockery of relationship you "chose" to get into,” says Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, a young journalist and independent movie maker associated with the issue of fake charges under Section 498A, and we couldn’t agree more. 
 
While we appreciate the sentiments behind women independence, we believe that the video could have actually featured women from all walks of life, and focusing on real problems rather than the controversial demand that we discussed above. To add the portraits of 3-4 tribal women to hint their involvement (and approval) in the demands put forward in the video is misleading to say the least. 
 
Deepika has been winning hearts recently, with her powerful performances on screen and acceptance of suffering from depression in real life. In this video too, she has looked and spoken good, which was all she could have done on her part. Whatever lacks in the video demands a better attempt from the makers the next time, if not an explanation of sort for points like the ones we discussed above.

OPPO India rolls out new film with brand ambassador Varun Dhawan

The year was 1975. 
 
At that time, 19-year old <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=sweden">Swedish</a> resident <keyword id="3173810" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Charlotte-Von-sledvin">Charlotte Von Sledvin</keyword> was studying in London. While, Dr <keyword id="3173809" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Pradyumna-Kumar-Mahanandia">Pradyumna Kumar Mahanandia</keyword> from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=india">India</a> had just started making a name for himself as a gifted artist and gained popularity for his portraits, after having joined the College of Art in Delhi and overcoming his poor background and the dreaded caste system so prevalent in the country. 
 Sledvin having heard of this gifted artist traveled all over to <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> to get PK (as he was fondly called then) to make her portrait. As luck would have it, both of them fell in love with each other during the course of him making her portrait, She, with his simplicity and he with her ethereal beauty. 
 
What happened next sounds like it’s right out of a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bollywood">Bollywood </a>movie plot. 
 
The duo who were madly in love with each other by the time Charlotte had to leave decided to get married with her taking the Indian name Charulata. 
 
 
As time for her departure neared, she asked her husband to join her, however PK wanted to finish his studies first. When she offered to send air-tickets later, he refused saying he would come on his own. And, after she left, the duo kept in touch through letters. 
 
After PK completed his studies, the realization dawned on him that even though his heart made the promise of going to see his wife, his financial condition wouldn’t allow for the promise to become a reality. 
 
But, not one to give up, he sold all his belongings and used the money to buy a second hand cycle- his weapon of choice. 
 
 
 
 
In 1978, PK set out on his voyage to the far west to meet the love of his life. During the course of the next four months, he crossed Amritsar, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Germany, Austria and Denmark. His cycle broke down many times on the way and he even had to go on without food for days. But nothing could break his will. 
 When he finally reached Gothenburg, <keyword id="23050" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Sweden">Sweden</keyword>, he was quizzed by Swedish immigration officers regarding his visit. 
 
When PK told them his reason and produced photographs of his marriage with Charlotte, he was informed that Charlotte belonged to the royal family. 
 
When Charlotte on the other hand heard about the man from Indian who cycled for more than four months, she immediately drove to Gothenburg and received her husband with unbridled happiness. Her family accepted him as one of their own. 
 
 
 
And, now after 40 years of marriage, Dr PK Mahanandia serves as the Odiya Cultural Ambassador of India to Sweden and is a renowned artist and lives with his wife Charlotte and 2 children in Sweden. 
 
 
 
Love indeed had no boundaries for this couple.

The story of having <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Pakistan-on-hanging-spree-Terrorism-still-remains-unaddressed/articleshow/46675568.cms">zero terrorist incidents</a> is over now.

 For example, sometimes safety measures can have their own collateral damage too. After <keyword id="43510" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="9/11">9/11</keyword> more people died of road accidents as there was a sharp escalation of road travel. This was because people were terrified to fly. The purpose of terrorism is to terrorize. If you choose not to get terrorised, then terrorist attack has no value. 
 
But it is not easy. Human being human will be terrorised if people start killing and kill without logic? 
 
Yes. I agree. 
 
Is enough being done by the Indian Intelligence and the Government to prevent a repeat of <keyword id="6426476" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="26/11">26/11</keyword> in 2015? 
 
It is a wrong question. Just 10 months before<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Is-India-better-prepared-for-an-ISIS-led-Mumbai-like-attack-The-answer-is-a-resounding-No/articleshow/49805008.cms"> 26/11</a>, France faced one of the most brutal terrorist attacks in its history. But that doesn’t mean we are to sack the entire France intelligence. 
 
If you want a guarantee, you buy a toaster. The Indian Intelligence is putting in best efforts. Out of 10 attempts, they will trap maybe nine. One will get through and that one will be a much more subdued version than the ones they have stopped. The government can take steps only up to a certain limit. As a democracy we should have certain checks and balances which would allow dissidents to express their dissent in private. But protecting one’s privacy would limit the access of data by the intelligence. These are prices we pay for being a democracy or for not being a police state. 
 
When you demand that we need better intelligence, you forget that better intelligence means access to more data. They are basically going to extend their tentacles into places where radicalisation is being done. 
 
They are doing more than they can do with the resources that they have. Every lakh rupee you take and put in combating terrorism, you are taking that rupee from healthcare, education, employment etc. A balance has to be made and in that balance terrorist attacks will happen and will kill every 100 people in a year. 
 
The Indian Armed Forces is often accused of being hypocrite, especially as it supports military junta in Myanmar. What is your say on this? 
 
In Myanmar, the Indian Government wants to support Aung-San-Suu-Kyi as her democratic values are like our democratic values. The Indian Armed Forces believes in democracy and yet they are supporting military junta. One fails to see the reason here. If they do not support Myanmar, she will seek help from China. Most of our neighbours have come under the influence of China and we cannot let Myanmar become another China. 
 
Personal opinion is often shaped by very shallow knowledge. What people do not understand is if you have an environment surrounded by hostile entities that is far bigger trouble. 
 
In the wake of the increasing Chinese incursions along our borders, the Indian Armed Forces is blamed. Where has the Indian army failed? 
 
It has not failed. It has areas, resource crunches and moral issues. They are doing their best. 
 
But for the Indian Armed Forces mistakes are permanent. How do they work in such an environment? 
 
No plan survives the first contact with enemy. Your plan is a general line of direction. Hence, plans have to be flexible enough and that is why the Indian Armed Forces need junior leadership who can make decisions and changes to the plans on the fly as per the situation changes. 
 
In such circumstances, sometimes the decisions fail and cost them their lives. 
 
The Indian Armed Forces faces death. From where do you get your courage? 
 
It is a mixture of many things. A sense of belonging to a regiment and rigorous training instil that within the people. There is a sense of nobility that pushes people to go beyond what their limits are. 
 
What made you join the army? 
 
You would find it funny but my story is quite similar to the movie ‘Lakshya’. I was in Delhi and I was in a fairly protected area. The first time world came crashing around us was 1984 riots. It was the first time we were exposed to an extreme kind of violence and mayhem. I had direct exposure and it racked me quite a bit. After three days of mayhem, the army brought order into the area. While I was still in that daze, I found that the army was the only institution that can bring order in complete chaos. I decided this is an organisation I want to join. 
 
It may sound like a corny Bollywood movie but I was actually standing in the crowd as a young boy and waiting for the army to bring some order to the chaos and to relieve the people who are so scared at that point of time. Just the sight of an olive green uniform was making people calm. 
 
Aren’t you scared of death at all? 
 
I think anybody who says that they are not afraid of death is a fool. It’s one thing to say I am not scared of death and it is another thing to see death coming. When you see deaths around you, there is no doubt that you are scared. 
 
Yes, the honest answer is, I am scared. And, I think any soldier is scared. But more than that, soldiers are scared of being handicapped. 
 
What are the things that you want to change within the Indian Armed Forces? 
 
More than the change within the Indian armed forces, I want a change in the fundamental thinking of the citizens. I want the Indian citizens to know more about their Indian Armed Forces. 
 
How accurate is the portrait of Indian Security Forces in Indian cinemas? 
 
I won’t say it is not in good light. It is not in an accurate light. Although ‘Prahaar’ was a good example.
