<ul class="summary-list"><li>Adam Neumann is trying to buy back WeWork, the now-bankrupt company he cofounded.</li><li>He's being aided by lawyer Alex Spiro, who helped Elon Musk take over Twitter in 2022.</li></ul><p>Adam Neumann is <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/wework-cofounder-adam-neumann-is-trying-to-pull-a-steve-jobs-2024-2"><u>trying to buy back WeWork</u></a> – with the help of a lawyer close to Elon Musk.</p><p>The New York Times' DealBook published a <a target="_blank" href="https://static01.nyt.com/newsgraphics/documenttools/dc0a03694446d7d0/99f95f8d-full.pdf"><u>letter</u></a> Tuesday that said Neumann has met several times with the company he cofounded since December to discuss buying it or its assets, or providing it with financing.</p><p>The letter was sent by Alex Spiro, a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart &amp; Sullivan who's perhaps best known for working with Musk on his <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-twitter-reach-agreement-to-close-acquisition-deal-2022-10"><u>2022 takeover</u></a> of the company then known as Twitter (now called X).</p><p>Spiro became Neumann's counsel at the end of 2023, <a target="_blank" href="https://news.bloomberglaw.com/business-and-practice/elon-musk-lawyer-alex-spiro-aids-neumann-bid-to-buy-back-wework"><u>Bloomberg Law</u></a> reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.</p><p>After Musk bought Twitter, the Quin Emanuel attorney ended up working side-by-side with the multi-billionaire and gave his input in layoff discussions, <a target="_blank" href="https://news.bloomberglaw.com/business-and-practice/musks-outside-lawyer-spiro-now-on-inside-of-twitter-overhaul"><u>Bloomberg Law reported</u></a> in November 2022.</p><p>Spiro has also represented Musk — the owner of Tesla, X, and SpaceX — in at least five other cases, including in a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-50695593"><u>2018 defamation lawsuit</u></a> brought by Vernon Unsworth, a British caver whom Musk called a "pedo guy."</p><p>Musk subsequently hired him to fight the Securities and Exchange Commission, JPMorgan Chase, Alameda County health officials, and a Tesla skeptic named Randeep Hothi who also had sued Musk for defamation.</p><p>Jeanine Zalduendo, an attorney in Los Angeles who worked with Spiro on several cases, told <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alex-spiro-attorney-elon-musk-jay-z-bobby-shmurda-2022-06"><u>Business Insider</u></a> in 2022 that the two men seemed to share a sense of humor.</p><p>"The practice of law can be so dry and boring," she said. "We're not there laughing all the time, but someone who's lighthearted and can give a joke, take a joke — it's that kind of energy on teams."</p><p>"I've seen [Musk and Spiro] in a room together," Zalduendo added. "They get along very well."</p><p>Spiro's other clients include the rappers Jay-Z, Megan Thee Stallion, and Bobby Shmurda, the New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, the right-wing political commentator Dinesh D'Souza, and the former NBA player Thabo Sefolosha.</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>The <keyword id="6361805" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="NBA">NBA</keyword> is hosting a fan-less All-Star Weekend in <keyword id="85701" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Atlanta">Atlanta</keyword> on March 6-7.</li><li>Despite Atlanta's mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and NBA Commissioner <keyword id="288273" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Adam-Silver">Adam Silver</keyword> discouraging partying, there are promotions for parties throughout the city during the weekend.</li><li>Brookhaven, a suburb of Atlanta, extended pouring hours for bars and restaurants until 4 A.M. for the weekend.</li></ul><p>As the NBA prepares for its All-Star Weekend in Atlanta, Georgia, many fans don't seem to be heeding Adam Silver's words about avoiding parties.</p><p>The NBA is going forward with its All-Star Game and skills competition, <a href="https://www.insider.com/lebron-james-all-star-criticism-players-opt-out-2021-2">despite player objections</a>, but will be holding the event without fans or public events during the weekend due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players will be flying in on private planes and under strict quarantine rules.</p><p>Silver told ESPN on Wednesday that this year's event is a "television-only" event.</p><p>"The message within the NBA community is that we're going to be operating in a mini-bubble," Silver said. "There will be no NBA functions [for fans] to participate in. We appreciate their support and hope they'll watch our All-Star Game on television ... This is a television-only event in Atlanta."</p><p>However, the discouragement doesn't seem to be working. <a href="https://www.eventbrite.com/d/ga--atlanta/%23allstarweekend/?page=1">Eventbrite is flooded with listings for All-Star Weekend parties</a> in the Atlanta metro area. <a href="https://frontofficesports.com/newsletter/nba-cant-stop-all-star-game-parties/">According to Front Office Sports</a>, over 700 parties this weekend are found under a search for "All-Star Game Party."</p><p>The city of Brookhaven, a suburb of Atlanta, recently extended pouring hours for bars for the weekend, allowing them to stay open until 4 A.M.</p><p>"I think in terms of the nightlife in Atlanta, the state of Georgia has made a decision to keep its restaurants and clubs open," Silver said. "That's their right to make that decision. All we can do, on behalf of the NBA, is commit to them that we will not be participating in any way, in that nightlife.</p><p>"Our players are going to be in a work-quarantine protocol while they are in Atlanta."</p><p>Some of the weekend's parties include big names. Still, police are reportedly concerned about parties becoming super-spreader events.</p><p>Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has repeatedly discouraged people from partying.</p><p>"I have shared my concerns related to public health and safety with the NBA and Atlanta Hawks," Bottoms said in February. "We are in agreement that this is a made-for-TV event only, and people should not travel to Atlanta to party."</p>

<ul class="summary-list"><li>In the first episode of "Bel-Air," there's a scene where a group of white students rap a racial slur.</li><li>Olly Sholotan, who plays Carlton, says one of his co-stars felt uncomfortable doing the scene.</li></ul><p>"Bel-Air" star Olly Sholotan told Insider that one of his co-stars was reluctant to film a scene in the first episode where a group of white students sings a song containing a racial slur.</p><p>Sholotan plays Carlton in the Peacock reboot that reimagines "<keyword id="13254102" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="fresh-prince" source="Orion">Fresh Prince</keyword> of Bel-Air" as a drama. In the first episode, Carlton has a confrontation with the series' protagonist, the fictional Will Smith (Jabari Banks), after Smith stumbles on his cousin dancing and rapping in a locker room with a group of white students.</p><p>The song they were singing, a viral Bobby Shmurda song from 2014 which inspired the vine "Shmoney Dance" trend, contained the N-word and the group could all be heard saying the derogatory term that has been used to insult the Black community. After Smith berates them, Carlton comes to their defense and in the following scene says that his cousin is "flipping out" over a word.</p><p>In an interview with Insider, the Carlton actor said that his co-star Tyler Barnhardt, who was one of the white students in the locker room scene, felt uncomfortable saying the slur.</p><div type="image" title="Bel Air" height="2000" width="2666" msid="89870060" hostid="261"></div><p>"We approach these really tough subjects with a lot of delicacy," Sholotan said. "But I remember the first few takes Tyler was actually nervous slash uncomfortable saying that word. Rightfully so. He's the nicest person on the planet. I don't think that's a word he's ever said."</p><p>He continued: "I'm not gonna speak for him, but I can imagine it feels icky. We all made sure we were on the same page and the scene that we were shooting is so important."</p><p>Insider has reached out to representatives of Tyler Barnhardt for comment.</p><p>The argument between Carlton and Smith brings up a common debate on whether white people should be able to use the slur when it's used in popular songs by Black artists.</p><p>In 2018, <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-44209141">Kendrick Lamar stopped his performance of "M.A.A.D City"</a> during his set at the Hangout Festival in Alabama to tell a white woman, who he had asked to perform with him on stage for the song, to "bleep" the N-word after she repeatedly used it in the song.</p><p>When asked what he thought about his white co-stars saying the N-word, Sholotan said that when the slur is used in art it should be "in service of something greater." </p><div type="image" title="Jabari Banks will play Will in the new &quot;Fresh Prince&quot; reboot." height="1500" width="2000" msid="89870061" hostid="261"></div><p>"Once you start looking deeper and deeper into it you realize that he's just trying to survive," Sholotan said. What's he gonna, do?"</p><p>He continued: "I think this is so important because that's so integral to the Black experience. This idea of making the choice. Whether to assimilate into white spaces or whether to stand up for what you believe in and it's a tough decision, especially if you're a 16-year-old kid who deals with anxiety." </p><p>Sholotan also said that this scene worked because it was a common microaggression rather than an "outlandish" racist scenario.</p><p>New episodes of "Bel-Air" are out on Thursdays on Peacock TV.</p>

Case in point: The mysterious, handcuffed woman who captured the internet's heart this week when a minute-long clip of her being detained by police went viral. In the video, which has not been verified as real, an officer holds onto her arm while she playfully ribs and questions him. </p><p>"I don't wanna be detained for no goddamn reason," the woman is seen asking the officer. "Yeah, that's how the f-ck I act, naturally. Ask anybody who know me."</p><p>The officer responds, mildly: "What you in school for?"</p><p>"The fuck are you talking about?" the woman replies. "Why are you detaining me? You about to lose yo job."</p><p>Taking the officer's silence as an invitation to reiterate her word of warning, the woman then turned "you about to lose yo job" into a freestyle rap. </p><p>"You about to lose your job," she repeats to an imaginary beat, twerking. "Get this dance. You about to lose your job 'cause you are detaining me for nothing." </p><p>The woman, who remains unidentified outside of her Instagram handle (<a href="https://www.instagram.com/getthisdance/">@getthisdance), </a>even managed to get the officer who was restraining her to reluctantly crack a smile.
