The Chinese application has gathered 800 million users worldwide in less than five years, one in eight of them from the USA. A storm broke out in the American social media, because the application has around 100 million users in the United States alone and is extremely popular. According to information from the Reuters agency, Trump was supposed to come to the conclusion that battles with young influencers just before the November elections were a bad idea. He gave TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, an ultimatum to sell its company. TikTok itself was to be blocked at the end of September. However, Donald Trump withdrew from the idea as a result of an agreement between ByteDance, Oracle and Walmart. This deal will create a Texas-based TikTok Global in the USA, in which 12.5% of shares will be held by Oracle and 7.5% by Walmart. The rest will still belong to the Chinese company ByteDance. Approximately 25,000 jobs will be created and a fund will be set up, under which USD 5 billion will be allocated to education.<br /><br /><strong>Blake Chandlee - fintech expert for difficult times</strong><br /><br />Blake Chandlee, TikTok's Vice-President for Global Business Solutions in Europe and the US, pointed out in August that Trump's charges discredited his administration and were unfounded.<br /><br />TikTok is clearly an independent company. We have already given our customers many examples confirming this. We have built the company outside China. The data are also outside China: in the United States and Singapore," said Chandlee.<br /><br />Blake Chandlee was previously associated with Facebook, where he spent a decade overseeing business cooperation in Europe, Latin America and the USA. Bloomberg recalls that he broke up with Mark Zuckerberg's company in 2017 and moved on to the Outcome Health start-up, which was sued by investors. Last year, he joined the Chinese company Bytedance – the owner of TikToka. Blake Chandlee was not the only manager poached by the Chinese at the time. Previously, the company acquired Vanessa Pappas, previously associated with YouTube, who was appointed general manager at TikTok. Prior to joining the Facebook team, she was the Sales Director at Yahoo in the UK.<br /><br /><strong>Blake Chandlee - expert on new products</strong><br /><br />What is TikTok? Users of the application can record short videos in it and synchronize the video with music. All this can also be enhanced with video filters and various types of stickers. In conjunction with a crowd of nearly 800 million users, it gives a huge sales potential.<br /><br />Blake Chandlee revealed a few months ago that TikTok wants to launch a brand new purchasing tool, something similar to the one that already functions on Instagram today. At the same time, TikTok offers less detailed information about who its users are. It is not a typical social media network.<br /><br />Chandlee also believes that “hashtag challenges” can be an asset for advertisers, since they can turn a marketing campaign into a viral, thus encouraging users to make films on a particular topic.<br /><br /><strong>TikTok - apolitical</strong><br /><br />Blake Chandlee wrote on his blog last October that TikTok does not allow paid advertising that speaks “for” or “against” any candidate, leader or political party. Chandlee stresses that advertisements and political content do not serve the application created for entertainment purposes.<br /><br />Our mission is to inspire creativity and build joy. We want to make sure that we create a place where our community - users, creators and brands - can show creativity, create trends and have fun," wrote Chandlee.<br /><br />The statement was issued during the ongoing protests in Hong Kong. TikTok critics pointed out that the majority of searches featuring “Hong Kong” indicated a rather positive picture of reality, while riots continued on the streets. Some also pointed out that TikTok censors content not only in China but also in Turkey. Now, the decision on the ban will be delayed <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tiktok-ban-injunction-court-hearing-after-election-day-donald-trump-2020-10">until at least after Election Day 2020</a>.</p><p>Chandlee came in at the beginning of 2020 to head up TikTok's global business solutions, the <a href="https://digiday.com/media/tiktok-blake-chandlee-techlash-trump-whitehouse-microsoft-bytedance/">division working with brands</a> to advertise on the growing platform, Business Insider previously reported. Under Chandlee, TikTok's ad product offerings have expanded dramatically, to include opportunities for sponsored hashtags and challenges, in-feed videos, and branded AR effects.</p><p>TikTok has nearly 800 million users. TikTok VP Blake Chandlee to speak at the Business Insider Global Trends Festival 2020

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="11894125" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tiktok" source="Orion">TikTok</keyword> has begun laying off staff as part of a company-wide restructuring, Wired reported Monday.</li><li>Before these cuts, execs at TikTok had projected strength despite a broader downturn in the tech and ads sectors.</li></ul><p>TikTok has started laying off staff as part of a company-wide restructuring, <a href="https://www.wired.co.uk/article/tiktok-layoffs-company-wide-restructuring">Wired reported Monday, citing "five people with knowledge of the process."</a></p><p>David Ortiz, a US-based TikTok staffer who listed his title as "monetization product leader"on LinkedIn, <a href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/davidmatthewortiz_tiktok-bytedance-layoffs-activity-6954853958813110272-MT9u?utm_source=linkedin_share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop_web">wrote in a post on Monday</a> that his job was "being eliminated in a much larger re-organization effort."</p><p>Wired's report did not say how many TikTok staff had been let go, or the total number of jobs that were at risk as part of the restructuring. But one TikTok staffer, who was not identified by name, told Wired that the number of <keyword id="12651442" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="layoffs" source="Orion">layoffs</keyword> would be less than 100. TikTok did not respond on the record to multiple requests for comment from Insider.</p><p>Before these cuts, execs at the company had projected strength despite a broader downturn in the tech and advertising sectors. The company's head of global business solutions, Blake Chandlee, <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/16/tiktok-were-an-entertainment-app-not-a-social-network-like-facebook.html">told CNBC</a> in June that the platform had neither seen an ad market slowdown nor some of the headwinds that other companies were facing.</p><p>"I've heard there's going to be a slowdown in the ad market, anywhere from 2% to 6%, but we have not seen it," Chandlee said. "We're not seeing the headwinds that some others are seeing."</p><p>Layoffs have spread through the Chinese tech sector in recent weeks including at TikTok's parent company <keyword id="11955998" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="bytedance" source="Orion">ByteDance</keyword>, <a href="https://affiliate.insider.com?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wsj.com%2Farticles%2Ftencent-bytedance-implement-fresh-layoffs-amid-chinas-economic-pains-11656590596">The Wall Street Journal previously reported</a>.</p><p>Other <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/creator-economy-startups-layoffs-employees-cameo-substack-jellysmack-2022-7">creator economy</a> and ads-focused companies have also laid off employees or slowed down hiring recently. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/leaked-facebook-memo-details-hiring-freeze-negative-business-impacts-2022-5">Meta Platforms, which owns Facebook and Instagram, put a hiring freeze</a> in place in May as it sought to reprioritize its business. And Snapchat-maker Snap Inc. issued a profit warning the same month that dragged down advertising and social-media stocks at the time.</p><p>The layoffs also come as<a href="https://africa.businessinsider.com/local/lifestyle/the-top-downloaded-apps-in-q1-2022/"></a> TikTok faces a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/fcc-tiktok-letter-experts-say-ban-unlikely-despite-political-pressure-2022-7">new wave of political attacks</a> in the US. Officials in Congress and the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tiktok-fcc-commissioner-interview-apple-google-response-2022-7">FCC have questioned</a> in recent weeks whether the company is effectively guarding US user data from the Chinese government. A <a href="https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/emilybakerwhite/tiktok-tapes-us-user-data-china-bytedance-access">BuzzFeed News report</a> from June revealed that engineers from TikTok's parent company ByteDance had repeatedly accessed US user data from within China.</p><p><em>This story is developing.</em></p>

TikTok has reportedly begun laying off staff as part of a company-wide restructuring

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Select businesses can now sign up for TikTok Shop US if they're interested in selling their products to TikTokers.</li><li>The feature is only available in the US, UK, and seven regions of Asia.</li></ul><p>Americans may be closer to getting the TikTok Shop feature just in time for the holidays.</p><p><a href="https://seller-us-accounts.tiktok.com/account/register">US merchants are now able to sign up for TikTok Shop</a> if they're interested in selling products directly to consumers through the video-sharing app.</p><p>"TikTok Shop is an innovative new shopping feature which enables merchants, brands and creators to showcase and sell products directly on TikTok through in-feed videos, LIVEs, and the product showcase tab," a message on the official site reads.</p><p>The shopping feature is currently only available in the UK and seven regions of Asia.</p><p>Although the site to register a business to sell on the platform is up and running in the US, it's not available to every business owner. Currently, those attempting to register must provide an "invitation code" to access the application.</p><p>According to the TikTok sign-up site, merchant corporations must provide a US company registration document to apply while individual sellers need a US-issued passport or driver's license. Applicants can expect a response a day or two after submitting.</p><p><a href="https://www.semafor.com/article/11/11/2022/tiktok-launches-e-commerce-feature-in-app-to-compete-with-amazon">A report from Semafor</a> said the app is only inviting select businesses to sign up, but it's unclear which companies received the invitation.</p><p>The Bytedance-owned app advertised "higher quality traffic," "better consumer experience," and "seamless creator collaboration" to merchants who register.</p><p>Although it costs nothing to apply, TikTok takes a commission from each sale, the site reads.</p><p>"The commission fee for each product sale is 5%. This is reduced to 1.8% for the first 90 days after successful registration, and then the commission rate reverts back to 5% after the 90 days," the site explains.</p><p>The app began testing a "Shop" feed tab in Indonesia, according to a <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2022/06/30/tiktok-dedicated-shop-feed-that-highlights-products-buy-now/?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuYnVzaW5lc3NpbnNpZGVyLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAALQyGzXyOiHwwjwtVHnlnyDZ5LMeZnxNFxlYw-pyi8NDa0JBiNlGCDzPN_8S4MmoVTgf0DSQIe_1-cE_p9IY7CP4bGJ6Uf9oNGVMUrbeNFGD2LnavHAUU8GfO_QyyEPqtX3pnHgPuwW_AUCfEDfslfOFxJNx4sU9ShwZBFPvltkK">June report from Techcrunch</a>, and previously <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tiktok-in-app-shopping-with-shopify-2021-8">partnered with Shopify</a> to allow users to shop in-app in 2021.</p><p>On Tuesday, <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/e70316fa-bae2-4b3a-989f-d761e078b7a0">Financial Times reported</a> the restructuring of TikTok's US Operations to place former North America general manager Sandie Hawkins at the helm of TikTok Shop US.</p><p>"She will be a valuable partner . . . as (e-commerce) becomes a critical part of our client needs and TikTok builds on many of the native behaviours we already see on the platform," global solutions executive Blake Chandlee said in a Monday note to staff, FT reports.</p>

TikTok's venture into e-commerce continues as US American merchants can now apply to sell on TikTok Shop

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="11894125" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="tiktok" source="Orion">TikTok</keyword> unveils a new in-app shopping feature in its latest partnership with <keyword id="11949117" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="shopify" source="Orion">Shopify</keyword>.</li><li>TikTok users can now purchase items from sellers directly from videos and retailer profiles.</li><li>Since the pandemic, <keyword id="11894549" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="e-commerce" source="Orion">e-commerce</keyword> has increased, creating ways for social platforms to get involved.</li></ul><p>TikTok users can now shop directly in the app.</p><p>The new TikTok Shopping feature, announced Tuesday, lets Shopify merchants with a TikTok For Business account add a shopping tab to their TikTok profiles and sync their product catalogs to the app and creating a direct link to their online store.</p><p>Sellers can also link directly to their products in their videos by tagging them, allowing TikTok users to shop directly from videos, the company said in a press release.</p><p>Kylie Cosmetics, a beauty brand owned by Kylie Jenner, is one of the first adopters of this new feature.</p><p>"I built my business on social media; it's where my fans go first to look for what's new from Kylie Cosmetics," Kylie Jenner said in a statement released by Shopify. "I have so much fun creating TikTok videos, and I love sharing posts of my fans using the products. That's why I'm excited for Kylie Cosmetics to be one of the first to let customers shop directly on our TikTok!"</p><p>TikTok and Shopify first unveiled their <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tiktok-partnered-with-shopify-to-help-merchants-with-advertising-2020-10">partnership</a> last October to US merchants with advertising on the app. Trying to develop its <keyword id="11949116" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="social-commerce" source="Orion">social commerce</keyword> and e-commerce strategy, the partnership first allowed merchants to create and manage TikTok campaigns.</p><p>Now, by giving users a new way to shop, TikTok hopes to attract new customers.</p><p>"TikTok is uniquely placed at the center of content and commerce, and these new solutions make it even easier for businesses of all sizes to create engaging content that drives consumers directly to the digital point of purchase," Blake Chandlee, president of global business solutions at TikTok, said in a statement. "We're thrilled to be expanding our partnership with Shopify and making TikTok more accessible than ever for their merchants."</p><p>Currently, this feature is only available in the US and the UK. Canada will be adding in the oncoming weeks, according to TikTok and Shopify.</p><p>Since the pandemic, 70% of Americans are shopping more online, according to data from ESET, a global cybersecurity company, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/half-of-retailers-plan-digital-makeover-amid-e-commerce-boom-2021-1">Insider</a> reported. Experts expect this trend to stay.</p><p>Last year, Facebook also added an <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-launches-shops-ecommerce-feature-businesses-2020-5">online shopping featur</a>e for its users. Earlier in 2021, the <keyword id="11895013" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="social-media" source="Orion">social media</keyword> company also partnered with Shopify to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-expands-social-commerce-efforts-with-shopify-2021-2">expand the accessibility of social commerce</a> by integrating Shopify's Shop Pay buy button into Instagram and Facebook Shops.</p>

<ul><li>The company said that it was scaling down its employee size in India, as there has been no intimation from the government regarding a possible solution to the ban. </li><li><keyword id="6762469" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="TikTok">TikTok</keyword> was banned in late June by the Indian government in the middle of rising tensions at the India-China border.</li><li>Even with all the ups and downs in its businesses across the globe, <keyword id="3749909" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bytedance">Bytedance</keyword> has reportedly raked in $37 billion in revenue in 2020, including $7 billion in profit.</li></ul>Chinese giant ByteDance has fired hundreds of employees in India, as the ban on Chinese apps including the company’s popular app TikTok remains banned in the country. <br /><br />In an email to its employees on Wednesday morning, the company said that it was scaling down its employee size in India, as there has been no intimation from the government regarding a possible solution to the ban. <br /><br />“We initially hoped that this situation would be short-lived, and that we would be able to resolve this quickly. Seven months later, we find that has not been the case. Many of you have patiently waited to hear how this would play out, which has been very stressful. Thank you for your continued belief and trust in us,” wrote TikTok CEO Vanessa Pappas and VP of Global Business Blake Chandlee in an email to India employees today, as reported by <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2021/01/26/bytedance-to-cut-jobs-in-india-amid-tiktok-ban/">TechCrunch</a>.<br /><br />TikTok was banned in late June by the Indian government, as were 58 other Chinese apps in the middle of rising tensions at the India-China border. Soon after, over hundred other Chinese apps were banned in the country over privacy and data concerns. <br /><br />“We have worked steadfastly to comply with the Government of India order issued on June 29, 2020. We continually strive to make our apps comply with local laws and regulations and do our best to address any concerns they have. It is therefore disappointing that in the ensuing seven months, despite our efforts we have not been given a clear direction on how and when our apps could be reinstated. It is deeply regretful that after supporting our 2000+ employees in India for more than half a year, we have no choice but to scale back the size of our workforce. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Courtesy of Jordan Jones</span></p><p class="caption">Jordan Jones, founder of Packed Party.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>Packed Party started as a side hustle for founder Jordan Jones and has since raised $2 million in funding without a single unprofitable year - but it wasn't without struggles.</li><li>Business Insider chatted with the 29-year-old female founder to learn about the biggest mistake she's made in her career and how it affected her business.</li><li>Jones said that the one mistake that sticks out is how quickly she chose to hire for certain roles.</li><li>Here's how she's changed her mindset and operations based on this experience to further grow her brand.</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/prime?module=article&amp;area=summary">Click here for more BI Prime stories.</a></li></ul><p>What started as a side hustle out of a 500-square-foot San Francisco apartment for founder Jordan Jones has since become a fast-growing lifestyle brand with $2 million in funding - from <a href="https://www.statesman.com/news/20181123/statesman-interview-meet-jordan-jones-founder-of-packed-party">angel investors like Steve Hicks and early Facebook executive Blake Chandlee</a> - operating out of a 9,000-square-foot warehouse in Austin, Texas. </p><p>Jones founded <a href="https://www.packedparty.com/">Packed Party</a> with the idea of themed party packages, and has since evolved the brand to include cheerful, colorful, and bold products, including accessories, bags, drinkware, home and office supplies, and more.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Courtesy of Jordan Jones</span></p><p class="caption">Packed Party hasn't had a single unprofitable year.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>At the time she started Packed Party, Jones was 23 and working in marketing for a data analytics company, but was summarily fired after the firm noticed press coverage about Packed Party and realized Jones probably had other priorities.</p><p>And yet, six years later, the brand has 15 employees, has grown its total customer base by 80% in the last year, recently announced a <a href="https://www.packedparty.com/blogs/journal/whole-foods-x-packed-party">partnership with Whole Foods</a>, and has had over 200% annual revenue growth since its inception. What it hasn't had is a single unprofitable year.</p><p>But even the most successful startup founders make mistakes. Jones shared with Business Insider the No. 1 mistake she's made as a young female founder and what she wishes she'd known when starting her company.</p><h1>The biggest mistake I made was hiring too quickly and too soon</h1><p>Because Packed Party has grown quickly in its six years of business, and because Jones started the company without much in the way of formal management experience, she initially felt pressure to put hires in place to fill an immediate void.</p><p>"I've never made a good hire that has propelled the company forward by plugging what felt like an exploding leak from the floor in a survival-type moment," she said. "Once the ball gets rolling with your business and you have thousands of customers needing things, it's easy to reach for a resume that feels like a B+ rather than wait for an A player to come through the door."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Courtesy of Jordan Jones</span></p><p class="caption">Packed Party offers bold products, including accessories, bags, drinkware, home and office supplies, and more.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>The "good enough" hire Jones made, in one particular case, said "yes" to too many tasks and then had trouble completing them. They missed a purchase order deadline, and the resulting chargeback hurt Packed Party's bottom line. "Communication in our business is key," explained Jones. "A lack thereof always ends in financial issues when you're dealing with tight deadlines and inventory."</p><p>Another hire made it difficult for Jones to build processes, which, in turn, affected the morale of future A-plus hires. "A few people today on our team walked into a couple of operational nightmares early on that they've been amazing at sorting through," she said. "For me, the quicker we closed the door on relationships not serving the company, the better off we were financially and culturally."</p><h1>Now I've removed myself from the hiring process entirely</h1><p>Jones recognized she was part of the problem, typically hiring candidates based off gut feelings and instincts, similar to how she approached the brand's design process. "I put a lot of emotion into it," she said. "I was asking people about their mom, dog, cousin, and their favorite product."</p><p>And, because she's young, early hires often saw her as less of a boss and more of a friend. "Our brand is so fun, so there was - and still is - an expectation for me to stay in this playful, creative light," said Jones. "You can be friendly at work but, at the end of the day, you're both there to get the job done. If it's not getting done, it isn't going to work."</p><p>Jones has since passed the responsibility of hiring and management to Packed Party's president and HR representative, both of whom handle recruitment and serve as employees' direct managers. She stills meets candidates to say "hi" and to ensure they're a cultural fit, but tries to primarily focus on her strengths: design and partnerships.</p><p>"Our president and HR person ask the hard-hitting questions and leave emotion at the door," said Jones. "Today, as a multimillion-dollar brand, it actually runs a lot smoother not having my hands gripping the wheel.
