In a list of honorary British awards unveiled by the UK Cabinet Office, <keyword id="20134935" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mittal" source="keywords">Mittal</keyword> receives a KBE under the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire - one of the highest honours conferred by a British monarch. The 66-year-old entrepreneur said in a statement that he was "deeply humbled" by the gracious recognition from King Charles. "The UK and India have historical relations, which are now entering a new era of increased cooperation and collaboration. I remain committed to working towards strengthening the economic and bilateral trade relationships between our two great nations," Mittal said. "I am thankful to the government of the UK, whose support and keen attention to the needs of business has been critical in making the country an attractive investment destination," he said. The KBE, conferred for a pre-eminent contribution in any field of activity, is awarded in an honorary capacity to foreign nationals. While the Knighthood conferred on UK nationals gives them the title of Sir or Dame, non-UK nationals awarded the honour add KBE (or DBE for women) after their name. Previous Indian recipients of the Honorary KBE include Ratan Tata (2009), Ravi <keyword id="20006262" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shankar" source="keywords">Shankar</keyword> (2001) and Jamshed Irani (1997), conferred by the late Queen Elizabeth II. The investiture ceremony will be conducted by the British High Commissioner to India at a later date, when he will formally hand over the royal insignia to Mittal. The honour recognises Bharti Enterprises' work within the India-UK space, including with the UK government in the field of satellites. Sunil Bharti Mittal led the revival of OneWeb (now Eutelsat), leading a consortium with the UK government and other strategic investors to offer satellite broadband services globally, a company statement notes. Mittal has a strong connection with the UK, as a member of the India-UK CEO Forum and has previously been awarded the Honorary Doctor of Civil Law from Newcastle University and an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Leeds. He is also a member of the Vice Chancellor's Circle of Advisors at the University of Cambridge. Additionally, Sunil Bharti Mittal has served on the Governing Body of the London Business School (LBS) and as a Member of the India Advisory Group at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). In 2019, Bharti's Airtel Africa was listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE100 Index.

Bharti Realty to set up leisure destination near Delhi Airport’s Aerocity

In a bid which would be a big boost to Narendra Modi’s Clean Energy campaign, Japan's telecom and Internet major <keyword id="163404" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Softbank">SoftBank</keyword>, Bharti Enterprises and Taiwan-based <keyword id="168792" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Foxconn-Technology-Group">Foxconn Technology Group</keyword> have Monday formed a joint venture, SBG Cleantech which will invest around $20 billion over 10 years into green energy projects. 
 "Our eyes are trained on India, given the vast potential that the country offers. We have already made considerable investments in the technology sector here. With this partnership, our goal is to create a market-leading clean energy company, to fuel India's growth with clean and renewable sources of energy," <keyword id="357983" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Masayoshi-Son">Masayoshi Son</keyword>, Chairman &amp; CEO of SoftBank, said in a joint statement. 
 
SoftBank will own a majority stake in the Renewable energy project, while Bharti and Foxconn will take minority stakes, subject to certain conditions, in the venture which will bid for solar and wind energy projects across different states. 
 SBG Cleantech will have Manoj Kohli, a Bharti veteran, as Executive Chairman and <keyword id="231092" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Raman-Nanda">Raman Nanda</keyword>, as the CEO and will be headquartered in Delhi. 
 "At Bharti, we believe in projects that have a transformational impact on society. In line with this vision, we are participating in a renewable energy venture with SoftBank and Foxconn which has the potential to transform the Indian economy," Sunil <keyword id="272096" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Bharti-Mittal">Bharti Mittal</keyword>, Chairman, Bharti Enterprises, said. 
 
Son and Mittal will be visiting Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan over the next two days to talk to state government officials about potential projects, Mittal said at a news conference. He said that subject to winning project bids, land and other clearance, the first project should get off the ground in 12 to 18 month, adding that land acquisition should not be an issue since the venture will be using arid, non-cultivable and non-irrigable land. 
 
Mittal added that this project will immensely contribute to the Hon'ble Prime Minister's vision of meeting the country's energy demands through clean sources. "Just as mobile phones have connected every Indian, renewable power has the potential to provide every Indian with access to electricity; SBG Cleantech underlines our commitment to India's growth plans not only by eliminating energy deficit but also providing clean environment to the future generations of India." Son said that the venture will initially import equipment for the projects but as and when it gets sufficient land, it will look to manufacture in India. 
 SBG Cleantech will be a harbinger of solar and wind energy. Following the Indian Prime Minister's 100GW solar and 60GW wind target by 2022, the venture will invest in and develop renewable energy plants across India. The company intends to participate in the 2015-16 round of solar power plant tenders under the <keyword id="73669" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="national-solar-mission">National Solar Mission</keyword> (NSM) program and state-specific solar programs. 
 
"Harnessing renewable energy is a key pillar in our SER strategy and we are excited to join our industry partners, SoftBank and Bharti, in championing clean energy solutions in India through SBG Cleantech, and supporting the country's efforts to grow its renewable energy industry," Terry Gou, Founder and CEO, Foxconn Technology Group, said.

Project SBG Cleantech to boost Modi’s Clean Energy Mission

At the announcement for the national roll out of <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> payments bank, <keyword id="6442632" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunil-Bharti-Mittal">Sunil Bharti Mittal</keyword> talked about the challenges faced by the company with the entry of <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>. Airtel has moved TDSAT on Reliance Jio's free services. <keyword id="6367997" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mittal">Mittal</keyword> said it is unfair competition if any player is providing services for free for such a long time. He said Airtel has put all matters concerning the unfair practice of Jio in the TDSAT including issues regarding <keyword id="6356988" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="TRAI">TRAI</keyword>. Airtel has called TRAI a mute spectator. Mittal believes DoT has set up a committee to look into the matter and is waiting to hear from the telecom department and the regulator. Mittal said Jio's entry in the market has impacted both revenues and margins of telecom players however Airtel is not as impacted by the entry of other players. 
 Mittal said Reliance Jio's entry has impacted the telecom industry. Ever since <keyword id="3522120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="mukesh-ambani-led-reliance-jio">Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio</keyword> launched its commercial services telecom operators of the country have been sparring over the free services provided by Jio which now through its 'Happy New Year' plan extends until March 2017.

Telecom giant Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> will invest $1 billion a year in <keyword id="12925" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Africa">Africa</keyword> over the next few years. 
 "Airtel will invest $1 billion in Africa per annum over the next few years," Bharti Enterprises founder and chairman <keyword id="6442632" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunil-Bharti-Mittal">Sunil Bharti Mittal</keyword> stated on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. 
 
Airtel operates in 17 African countries and provides 3G services in 14 of them. 
 
Mittal also said that the company would focus more on existing operations instead of expanding to new markets. 
 Airtel had ventured into the African market in 2010 after acquiring <keyword id="79798" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Zain-Telecom">Zain Telecom</keyword> for about $10.7 billion. It had made capital expenditure of $635 million in FY2013-14. Airtel’s total investment amounted to $14,388 million in the continent at the end of 2013-14. 
 
Airtel Africa saw 2% growth in revenues for the last of quarter of 2013-14. It registered a net loss of $124 million, compared to a net loss of $91 million in the corresponding quarter of 2012-13. 
 
For Airtel, the average revenue per user in the African continent saw a decline of 7% to $5.5. 
 
However, the number of data customers in Africa during the last quarter of 2013-14 increased 53.5% to 22.3 million, which is now 32.1% of the total customer base.

 Mittal also added that the company is looking for typical quintessential technical roles — including front-end engineers, backend engineers, ML scientists, UX designers. However, he emphasised that they hire very ‘selectively.’ “We are looking to expand our team but we hire very selectively. That’s because we like running small teams. We will at maximum add 50 people in 2020 — taking the total headcount to 200 employees,” he said. The seven-year old chatting platform is now set to launch its new feature with enhanced user experience called HikeLand. The company is also looking to experiment with revenues this year — to trade off between what can be offered free and what has to be kept as a paid service.
