<keyword id="664247" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="CNR-RAO">CNR Rao</keyword>, the eminent Indian scientist who was awarded the Bharat Ratna for his work in the field of chemistry and currently heads the Scientific Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India, has said that 90% of the Indian universities and higher educational institutions have outdated curriculum. According to Rao, this is the reason why Indian institutes are not listed in the top institutes of the world. 
 "90 per cent of the universities in our country have outdated curriculum. We talk about increasing funds, increasing infrastructure but there is no improvement in the content we are teaching in our hi-tech classrooms," Rao was quoted saying during the <keyword id="3127703" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Visitors-Conference">Visitor's Conference</keyword> at the Rashtrapati Bhawan yesterday. 
 
"One of the major reasons behind why Indian institutions don't make it to the top 100 universities in the world. There are lot of Indian students abroad who want to study in our country and come back but there are no quality colleges to offer them the same kind of environment and education," he added. 
 
"Talent search in our country has always been marginal. We teach our students what Newton and Faraday did but there is no mechanism to look out for similar talent in interiors of the country," he said. 
 
Talkimg about the bureaucratic hassles in the education system, he said that, "You want to introduce a course, institute a fellowship, establish an exchange programme, utilise the already allocated funds... there are so many laws, too many bureaucratic rooms. I think that process should be simplified." 
 The conference, which started yestersay, has the Heads of 114 institutions, including President <keyword id="6359124" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Pranab-Mukherjee">Pranab Mukherjee</keyword>. The subjects that will be deliberated upon during the conference include creating inter-linkages of Industry-Academia, interfacing with ranking agencies, providing impetus to research and innovation in educational eco-system, establishing international networks and workforce sustainability, among others. 
 Nobel laureate <keyword id="377475" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kailash-Satyarthi">Kailash Satyarthi</keyword> and renowned geneticist <keyword id="96510" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="MS-Swaminathan">MS Swaminathan</keyword> are also a part of the conference. 
 
Talking about the Right to Education, Satyarthi said, "Though the introduction of Right to Education (RTE) has contributed to a significant progress in the sector but lack of three things - inclusion, quality and equity, are still roadblocks in ensuring progress at the ground level." 
 
Swaminathan, known as 'Indian Father of Green Revolution', called for developing courses in "Sustainability Science" in all the institutions.

Indian universities need to improve, says Bharat Ratna CNR Rao

India’s 11th President, Dr <keyword id="2972752" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Avul-Pakir-Jainulabdeen">Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen</keyword> (APJ) <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Destiny-always-has-a-different-plan-Dr-APJ-Abdul-Kalam-planned-an-assignment-which-he-couldnt-give-to-IIM-Shillong-students/articleshow/48248849.cms">Abdul Kalam</a>, who died on Monday at the age of 83, addressing students at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IIM+Shillong">IIM Shillong</a>, wanted to be remembered as “teacher”. 
 
Kalam’s adviser <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Srijan+Pal+Singh+">Srijan Pal Singh</a> was on the same stage with him in Shillong when he collapsed and was taken to hospital where he later died. 
 
The <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IIM+Ahmedabad+">IIM Ahmedabad</a> alumnus, Singh, paid tribute to the ‘<keyword id="445273" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Missile-Man">Missile Man</keyword>’ on Tuesday. He has also co-authored two books with the former President. 
 
He posted on Facebook: Once Kalam asked me, “You are young, decide what will like to be remembered for?” 
 
Singh kept on thinking for impressive answers and then one fine day he counter-questioned him. He asked Kalam: “First you tell me, what you would like to be remembered for? President, Scientist, Writer, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Missile+Man">Missile Man</a>, India 2020, Target 3 billion…What?” 
 
Kalam replied: “Teacher”. 
 

	In his touching post on Facebook, Singh said two weeks back they had a long discussion about his missile days. He was worried about the way children behave with their parents. The former President said: “Children need to take care of their parents. It is sad that sometimes this is not happening.”
 
Singh quoted Kalam as advising parents: “Two things. Elders must also do. Never leave wealth at your deathbed – that leaves a fighting family. Second, one is blessed is one can die working, standing tall without any long drawn ailing. Goodbyes should be short, really short.” 
 
He said in his post: “Today, I look back – he took the final journey, teaching, what he always wanted to be remembered doing. And, till his final moment he was standing, working and lecturing.” 
 
“He left us, as a great teacher, standing tall. He leaves the world with nothing accumulated in his account but loads of wishes and love of people. He was a successful, even in his end,” he added. 
 
“Will miss all the times you surprised me with your humility and startled me with your curiosity, will miss the lessons of life you taught in action and words, will miss our struggles to race to make into flights, our trips, our long debates…The man is gone, the mission lives on. Long live Kalam,” he concluded. 
 Kalam was awarded the <keyword id="100256" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bharat-Ratna">Bharat Ratna</keyword> in 1997, the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and the Padma Bhushan in 1981.

The group of Padma Awards that includes Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri is known as the highest awards given by the Republic of India. They were all instituted together in the year 1954 and they are announced year on year on the Republic Day. The objective of these awards is to recognize, highlight and appreciate the ‘work of distinction’. They are given to persons or organizations that make some exceptional contribution or service in any field or discipline including Art, Medicine, Literature, Civil Service, Sports, Education, Social Work, Public Affairs, Science and Engineering, Trade and Industry etc. Participation in this venture Nominations are invited from the departments and ministries of the central government, state and the Union territory governments, awardees of the Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan awards, Institutes of Excellence and also from many other agencies, bodies, enterprises and organizations, so that the sample available for the consideration is as wide as possible. ‘Daughter of the nation’ Lata Mangeshkar turns 90 and here’s taking a look at her career of 77 years

The theme decided for this year is "Women in Science." Commemorating the National Science Day, the country will see a number of programs organized at schools and colleges, and other higher education, research and technical institutions based on the theme earmarked for the year. National Science Day is an annual feature celebrated year on year right from 1987. Going to the roots National Science Day Commemorates the discovery of Raman Effect by Sir C V Raman, a renowned physicist and a thinker hailing from Tamil Nadu, India. On February 28, 1928, Raman discovered what was later labelled as Raman Effect, a wonderful light scattering phenomenon which created strides in the physics of Light. This notable discovery won him the Nobel Prize in 1930, a couple of years later. After serving for several years with the government in the department of Accounts, he founded several organizations like Indian Science Academy, Current Science Association and Raman Research Institute and journals like Journal of Physics, Current Science, and others. In 1954, he was honored by the Government of India during his life time itself with the highest civilian award of the country Bharat Ratna. What is Raman Effect? A path breaking discovery in spectroscopy, Raman Effect refers to the change of wavelength of light when a light ray is deflected by molecules. C V Raman found that a fraction of the incident light is scattered when a light beam traverses through a dust-free, transparent sample of a chemical compound. While much of this scattered light has the same wavelength, a small part is found to have a different wavelength than the incident light. This feature is known as the Raman Effect, named in honor of the renowned scientist C V Raman, the brain behind this momentous discovery. Theme of National Science Day The National Science Day is celebrated with a wide range of events and programs like special programs on TV and Radio, science exhibitions, science movies, debates, quizzes, public speeches, live projects, and several other activities. Year on year, the theme of the National Science Day would be announced much in advance so that the programs can be tuned to the given concept. The theme of the NSD in 2020 is "Women in Science."

"After (PV's regime) that, we have been achieving eightper cent from time to time. But we have not improved on thereforms that Narasimha Rao brought in.We need to do it now. Your question is will we be aneconomic superpower by 2030 in 10 years? Dr. Ambedkar’s contribution to the Constitution of India Once India became independent on August 15, 1947, the nation appointed Dr. Ambedkar as the chairman of the constitution drafting committee on August 29, 1947. Dr. Ambedkar strongly opined that the government in a democracy must be a responsible government formed by the representatives of people. He never wanted to impose a constitution on the Indians, rather he submitted that the opinion of the masses on how they wished to be governed must be accepted. He said, “The best government rests on the people, and not on the few on persons and not on property, on the free development of public opinion and not on authority.” Dr. Ambedkar strongly believed that the unity and solidarity of the country can be maintained in the long run only when the gaps between the different classes were equalized. Dr. Ambedkar highly emphasized the religious, caste and gender equality. The reservation system we find in the Indian constitution was purely the brainchild of Dr. Ambedkar who thought of it as a means to create a social balance among the different classes of the population in India. While drafting the constitution, Dr. Ambedkar envisioned a strong India administered by a federal government. When he sought to give the central government more powers, some members of the constituent assembly criticized him saying the idea goes against his own view that the rights and values of every individual in the country and the interests of every province and each village must be ensured. From this point of view, it was contradictory to make the center a strong entity. However, justifying his stand on the strong central government, Dr. Ambedkar said the center must be strong to “save minorities from the misrule of majority” and also “for it is only the center which can work for a common end and for the general interests of the country as a whole.”

“Dream is not that which you see while sleeping, it is something that does not let you sleep.” Dr APJ Abdul <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=kalam">Kalam</a>, India’s 11th President who taught the youth of the country to weave beautiful dreams to attain success in life, passed away while delivering lecture at <keyword id="698776" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Management-Shillong">Indian Institute of Management Shillong</keyword> on Monday evening. 
 
Popularly known as ‘the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=MISSILE+MAN">Missile Man</a> of India’, Kalam suddenly collapsed while delivering a lecture on 'Livable <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=planet">Planet</a>' at the management institute. The 83-year-old was immediately wheeled into Bethany hospitals' ICU in a critical condition and was confirmed dead after more than two hours. 
 
The country’s first bachelor President, who was a career scientist turned reluctant politician, ruled over a million hearts as he was one amongst the most respected people of the country. 
 
Kalam was born and raised in Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram; and after studying physics and aerospace engineering, he had spent the next four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=drdo">DRDO </a>and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=isro">ISRO</a>. 
 He played a major role in India's civilian space program and military missile development efforts, and that is why he was regarded as ‘the <keyword id="1502002" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Missile-Man-of-India">Missile Man of India</keyword>.’ Kalam also played a pivotal organisational, technical and political role in India's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=POKHRAN">Pokhran</a>-II nuclear tests that was conducted in 1998. And for his stupendous work, he received several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna which is India's highest civilian honour.

​India mourns the demise of 'People's President'

<keyword id="6354267" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sachin-Tendulkar">Sachin Tendulkar</keyword> once again proved he is more than cricket. The iconic Sachin Tendulkar today celebrated his 43rd birthday by playing cricket with children from the ‘Make-A-Wish India’ organisation in the city, even as the fraternity wished him and waxed eloquence. 

	Tendulkar spent some time with the children, teaching them the basics of batting, bowling and fielding at the MIG Club. He posted the same on his official Facebook page.
 

	Tendulkar retired from all forms of cricket in November 2013 during the Test match against West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium.
 

	Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer in Tests and ODIs. He is the only cricketer to have hit 100 international centuries, and the first to score a double century in ODIs.
 

	Tendulkar received India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna from the President Pranav Mukherjee in 2014. He is the youngest recipient to date and the first ever sportsperson to receive the award.
 

	As he stepped into his 43rd year, wishes started to pour in on Twitter.
 “Many happy returns of the day champion @sachin_rt have a blessed year!” former India captain and long-time teammate <keyword id="6364325" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anil-Kumble">Anil Kumble</keyword> wrote on his Twitter handle. India opener <keyword id="17805" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shikhar-Dhawan">Shikhar Dhawan</keyword> said, “Happy Birthday Paaji! 	The Indian Super League said, “Best wishes to @KBFCOfficial owner and cricketing great, @sachin_rt on his birthday!”
 Celebrities like <keyword id="6357912" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="amitabh-bachchan">Amitabh Bachchan</keyword>, <keyword id="671" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vir-das">Vir Das</keyword> and Dhanush took to social media to wish Tendulkar. 

	Bollywood’s megastar Amitabh shared that the cricketing icon “makes us so proud”.

	Calling himself a “true fan”, the “Dum Laga Ke Haisha” star Ayushmann Khurrana tweeted: “It’s Sachin Tendulkar’s birthday. True fan! When he used to get out, I used to stop eating food.”
 

	Actor and comedian Vir Das not only wished the batting legend, but also highlighted how the star has taught the world about humanity. He posted: “There’s very few athletes who teach you as much about humanity as they do about the sport. Happy Birthday Sachin Tendulkar”.

	After wrapping up stupendous innings on the cricket pitch, master blaster Tendulkar will be making a splash on the film scene with the upcoming film “Sachin The Film”.
