New Delhi, The <keyword id="19895782" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="election-commission" source="keywords">Election Commission</keyword> Thursday directed the Centre to immediately stop delivering bulk WhatsApp messages to people under the "<keyword id="21003206" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="viksit-bharat-sampark" source="keywords">Viksit Bharat Sampark</keyword>" initiative to highlight the government's achievements. The direction was issued to the Secretary, <keyword id="19959928" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-electronics-and-information-technology" source="keywords">Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology</keyword>, after the <keyword id="19933395" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="commission" source="keywords">Commission</keyword> received complaints about the matter. "The move is a part of a series of decisions taken by the Commission to ensure a level-playing field," the Commission said. Asking the government to ensure there is "no further delivery" of the bulk WhatsApp messages to people, the Commission sought an "immediate" compliance report on the matter from the ministry. The ministry had informed the Commission that the messages along with a letter from Prime Minister <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="narendra-modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword> were sent before the Model Code of Conduct came into force on March 16 with the announcement of Lok Sabha poll schedule. The Congress and the <keyword id="19968095" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="trinamool-congress" source="keywords">Trinamool Congress</keyword> had raised objections to the message and requested the Election Commission to act against this "blatant violation" of the Model Code of Conduct. On Tuesday, the Chandigarh Chief Electoral Officer had referred to the Election Commission for "appropriate action" a complaint regarding bulk WhatsApp messages. According to an official statement on Tuesday, after examination of the complaint, the district media certification and monitoring committee found prima facie evidence of a violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The Mark-III Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) is meant for coastal security. Out of the 16 Mk-III helicopters, HAL delivered three to Indian <keyword id="42407" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Navy">Navy</keyword> Chief Admiral Karambir Singh at Aero India. The helicopters are fully loaded multi mission helicopter is fitted with an array of advanced sensors. This will augment the Navy's responsibility for coastal security placed on it by the government after 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks that claimed the lives of 166 people and left 300 others injured. The helicopter features a full glass cockpit with HAL's Integrated Architecture Display System (IADS), more powerful "Shakti" (Safran Ardiden 1H1) <keyword id="240487" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="engines">engines</keyword>, and a host of new systems. The Indian Navy had ordered 16 Mk-III to supplement its ageing and depleting fleet of Alouettes (Chetaks) - from HAL. The Mk-III ALH are also equipped with an indigenous low frequency dunking sonar (LFDS) developed by Kochi-based Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory. Indian Navy receives three Advanced Light Helicopters from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited

US-based <keyword id="10577949" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="triton-electric-vehicle">Triton Electric Vehicle</keyword> on Monday said it aims to introduce N4 sedan in India with price starting at Rs 35 lakh. The electric sedan, which would be manufactured in the US, is going to be available in four different variants and a high-performance limited edition in the country, the company said in a statement. Only 100 units of the limited edition version -- N4-GT -- would be produced, it added. The N4 model comes powered by 75Kwh and 100 Kwh battery options giving the vehicle a range of up to 523 km and 696 km respectively, it added. "The base model will be priced at Rs 35 lakh thus, showing the amount of market research that has been put by the company to cater the requirements of the Indian market," Triton Electric Vehicle said. The company added that it has commenced the pre-launch bookings of the model for the Indian customers on its website. "As we are heading towards a new era of commitment towards our environment, EVs are going to make a definitive contribution in building a future ready society. We aim to make our sincere contribution towards ensuring a future ready society with environmentally friendly clean energy practices," Triton Electric Vehicle Founder and CEO Himanshu B Patel said. Our satellite programmes were completely dependant on these cells and without the tech to make more indigenously, there was little else to do but to count wholly on the transaction. Producing a small remote-sensing satellite requires about 1,500 solar cells, while big satellites like <keyword id="483986" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="GSAT">GSAT</keyword> or geosynchronous satellites, which are communication satellites, needs 10,000 to 15,000 cells. Each of these cells had to be imported and therefore the whole process cost a lot. However, the cost is expected to go down several times once mass production begins in India. <keyword id="6425802" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharat-electronics">Bharat Electronics</keyword> Limited has been given the contract to mass-produce solar cells at an ISRO facility in Bengaluru under the supervision of the organisation’s scientists. These satellites, once launched in space, open up their wings, that have the solar cells, to absorb sunlight and turn solar power to electricity. The satellite is kept up and functioning by these cells and will maintain power and working capacity unless the cells last. Once the cells die out, the satellite powers down, stops functioning and becomes space debri.

While there are not many counter-drone technology makers in India, few of these players include state-owned Defence Research &amp; Development Organisation (DRDO), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), ideaForge and Big Bang Boom Solutions. According to media <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/bsf-it-ministry-companies-border-security-drone-attack-7386310/">reports</a>, there are over 500 companies that can help the country find a solution to its drone problem. All these companies may not make devices to harm or kill drones, but can certainly help in tracking them. There are also several military tech private companies in the country, including Adani Defence &amp; Aerospace and Kadet Defence Systems that make drones for surveillance and technology for other combat purposes; Atindriya Systems provides electronic systems and software solutions for defense, and Trijatta that develops radars and encryption devices for the military. The government of India has been aware of the potential threat that rogue drones could pose in the security of the nation and issued a <a href="https://www.civilaviation.gov.in/sites/default/files/Counter_rogue_drone_guidelnes_NSCS.pdf">National Counter Rogue Drone Guidelines </a>two years ago. The policy highlights that the drone factor should be taken seriously as unmanned aircrafts, consumer drones and do-it-yourself (DIY) drones are readily available over the internet. The policy, referring to the Israel-Lebanon war of 2006, highlights "In certain incidents, the small drones were also armed with explosive ordnance, to convert them into potentially lethal guided missiles, thus demonstrating the growing sophistication with which these potent warriors have found relevance in combat zones." Yet it has found itself short of any large scale counter-drone system. The Jammu attack in itself did not cost much, but it did highlight the urgency to invest in a counter-drone system that could prevent bigger attacks in the long run. In the coming months, the government of India wants to sign multi-million dollar [who’s saying this?] contracts with both domestic and foreign firms to procure these technologies. <div type="image" title="India has limited options for weapons that can take down enemy drones" msid="84836842" hostid="261"></div> The anti-drone technology has a massive headroom to cover Kruthi Aramanamada, head of marketing at ideaForge, explained to Business Insider that counter-drone technology is expensive and fairly new as it came into existence only a decade ago. The technology is not fully matured and there is still a lot of scope of research and development (R&amp;D) in this segment, she added. Meanwhile, Anshuman Tripathi, a drone technology expert who is also a member of the National Security Advisory Board, <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/india/story/combating-the-drone-menace-india-needs-to-pick-up-pace-with-anti-drone-measures-1823517-2021-07-03">said</a>, "Drones are still evolving and solutions to handle them are incomplete. It's a matter of a few years when the technology matures and you can standardise equipment as you go forward." Even developed countries like the US, Russia and Israel are <a href="https://theprint.in/opinion/brahmastra/india-needs-to-shop-for-anti-drone-systems-we-are-already-late/688517/">pumping billions</a> of dollars into research and development of both drones and counter-drone systems. However, they have not found a foolproof system for both hard and soft kill as yet. Indian armed forces on a look out for counter-drone systems In June 2020, IAF floated a Request for Information (RFI) for Indian vendors for Counter Unarmed Aircraft System (CUAS), which can be used to bring down the rogue drone. Apart from that, other ministries and departments are also looking to sign such contracts. However, there have not been many insights on who may end up getting such contracts. One of the possible beneficiaries of this spree is likely to be Israel-based company Smart Shooter, a company that has been developing systems to help militaries track and engage moving targets. Indian Navy had placed an order to <a href="https://theprint.in/defence/navy-orders-israeli-smash-2000-plus-systems-to-tackle-drones-more-contracts-in-offing/562955/">procure </a>an unspecified number of Smart Shooter’s SMASH 2000 Rifle Sights in December 2020. However, the Indian Army wasn’t quite impressed with it after their trials in January 2021. They found that the system may work well for the Navy as they work in open terrain, but it is not feasible for other terrains. This highlighted another major challenge among the counter-drone technology — use cases. The counter-drone system is not a ‘one size fits all’ type of solution and has to be customised based on the criticality of the situation, Aramanamada added. The debate between indigenous or foreign technology remains Prof. P B Sujit, adjunct faculty at School of Engineering and Technology at BML Munjal University, said that the current counter-drone tech is limited and mostly sourced or licensed from other countries. He also noted that there are few Indian startups in the segment as well, but the quality of those solutions is undetermined at the moment. “The trust in Indian developed tech is low. With the history of India importing from Israel, it's natural to import this. Moreover Israel has good tech which has been field tested with Palestine stuff... So the confidence levels are right with the Israel tech,” he added. Apart from the Israeli plan, the government is also on a look out for the technology developed by domestic players and foreign public as well as private sector units, drone original equipment manufacturers, defence tech firms and Defence Research &amp; Development Organisation (DRDO). New Delhi, Mar 21 () Cement maker Dalmia Bharat Ltd on Saturday said its board has approved a proposal to buy back shares worth up to Rs 500 crore.The company further said it intends to buy not more than 71,42,857 shares at a maximum price of Rs 700 per unit.The shares will be bought back from the open market by using the electronic trading facilities of National Stock Exchange of India Limited and BSE Limited, the company said in a statement."The Board of Directors, at its meeting held on March 21, 2020, has approved buyback of the company's fully paid-up equity shares having a face value of Rs 2 each for an aggregate amount not exceeding Rs 500,00,00,000 excluding buyback tax, brokerage, costs, fees, turnover charges, taxes such as securities transaction tax, goods and services tax (if any) and income tax, stamp duty, advisors fees, filing fees and other incidental," it said.Dalmia Bharat Ltd currently has a cement manufacturing capacity of 26.5 million tonne per annum. The company's 12 cement manufacturing units are spread across nine states. Dalmia Bharat board approves Rs 500-cr share buyback proposal

We are in the midst of <keyword id="43763" type="EVENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="General-Elections">general elections</keyword> and if you have already voted or are about to vote, you must have had a fair idea about the <keyword id="6367487" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="electronic-voting-machines">electronic voting machines</keyword> or EVMs. The EVMs were introduced by the Election Commission of India, in alliance with Bharat Electronics (Bangalore) and Electronics Corporation of India (Hyderabad), for casting and counting votes. 
 
Business Insider India knows that you must be feeling inquisitive about how this little machine operates and consequently plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of the world’s largest democracy. You need not wonder any more – here is the detailed information about the EVMs and how they work. 
 These machines were first used on an experimental basis during the 1998 general elections. A total of 16 assembly constituencies used the <keyword id="59035" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="evm">EVM</keyword>s – there were 5 each in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, and 6 in the NCT of Delhi. An EVM includes a control unit and a balloting unit, connected by a 5m cable. The presiding officer of the booth, who is generally a central government employee trained to operate these machines, is in charge of the control unit while the balloting unit is used by the voters to cast their votes. 
 
An EVM runs on a 6 volt alkaline battery. So it is possible to use them in rural booths with no electricity connections. Also, it is easier for the illiterate people to press a button rather than putting the stamp mark on or near the symbol of the chosen candidate. A maximum of 3,840 votes can be cast through one EVM. But that is not an issue as the number of voters in a polling station will not exceed 1500. 
 
If an EVM goes out of order, a spare EVM can be provided to the booth by the designated officer. However, the votes already cast by the voters are safely stored in the control unit kept with the presiding officer, thus avoiding the near-impossible task of asking the voters to vote again. 
 
One EVM can cater to 16 candidates at a time and 4 such EVMs can be placed next to each other in one polling station to cater to a maximum of 64 candidates for one constituency. In case more than 64 candidates are contesting the polls from a single constituency, traditional paper ballots and ballot boxes will have to be pressed into service. 
 
EVMs can also prevent malpractices like booth capturing to a great extent. As these machines can register only 5 votes per minute, miscreants can only cast a limited number of votes before they get caught. This is an advantage over the traditional ballot boxes where the frauds can put in a huge number of illegally marked ballot papers. 
 
With the EVMs in place, the principle of ‘one man, one vote’ is easily taken care of as the machine gets locked after one has cast his/her vote, making it impossible for the same person to vote again, as new ballot number is needed once a vote is cast. 
 
To avoid any malpractice, the presiding officer presses the ‘close’ button after the last vote. The EVMs are designed in such a way that the machines won’t accept any vote after being detached from the control unit. 
 
These EVMs are easy to operate and quite economical as they help save a lot of money we would otherwise require for paper, printing, transportation, storage and distribution. They have also cut down on the time required for counting votes. It now takes 2-3 hours to complete the counting, compared to 30-40 hours taken during the traditional procedure.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>India and China's rivalry will likely intensify in the Indian prime minister's third term in office.</li><li>Both countries have self-reliance as a policy priority — which means they will both go big into manufacturing.</li></ul><a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/indian-election-results-shocking-blow-narendra-modi-2024-6">Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi</a> this week secured a historic third term in office — and it's likely to intensify India's economic rivalry with China.As David Lubin, a senior research fellow at London-based think tank <a target="_blank" href="https://www.chathamhouse.org/2024/06/achieve-developed-india-modis-new-government-will-prioritize-manufacturing-sector-better-or">Chatham House,</a> wrote on Thursday, the rivalry is likely to heat up because Modi and Chinese leader Xi Jinping have the same obsession for their country: self-reliance.Modi has a vision for <a target="_blank" href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/policy/mission-2047-india-charts-road-to-a-developed-economy/articleshow/108953808.cms?from=mdr">Viksit Bharat, or "Developed India,"</a> that sets a pathway for the South Asian giant to become a developed economy by 2047.Meanwhile, Xi's vision for China is <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-10-26/xi-s-vow-of-world-dominance-by-2049-sends-chill-through-markets">global dominance by 2049.</a>"Competition for economic leadership in Asia is in the air," wrote Lubin.<h2 id="a2dd3c88-d3f0-4b03-a2a9-5ef7ac76ad48">Both India and China will be focused on manufacturing</h2>To reach its goal, Modi's India will likely be going big on manufacturing."The pursuit of national greatness is, essentially, a relative game, and for India, the comparison that matters is with China," wrote Lubin.Since self-reliance is a policy priority for both India and China, "an obsession with manufacturing is likely to accompany it," Lubin wrote.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.imf.org/external/datamapper/profile/IND">India's GDP</a> of $3.9 trillion is far behind <a target="_blank" href="https://www.imf.org/external/datamapper/profile/CHN">China's $18.5 trillion GDP</a>. And China has served as the world's factory floor for the last four decades — but the tides are changing.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-trade-war-covid-companies-moving-supply-chains-2022-12">Companies are diversifying their operations </a>outside China to avoid over-relying on one country, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-india-supply-chain-covid-sanctions-manufacturers-relocating-tariffs-options-2022-12">India is aiming to be the new China.</a>Given that India is now the world's most populous nation — with <a target="_blank" rel=" nofollow" href="https://www.spglobal.com/en/research-insights/special-reports/look-forward/india-s-demographic-dividend-the-key-to-unlocking-its-global-ambitions">65% of its population</a> under the age of 35 — there are huge opportunities for the South Asian nation.However, with Modi's party losing its parliamentary majority, this means it will be <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/india-election-results-complicates-plans-unseat-china-modi-bjp-2024-6">much harder for his adminstration</a> to push through much-needed land and labor reforms to supercharge growth.In addition, as Raghuram Rajan, a former head of the Central Bank of India, told <a target="_blank" rel=" nofollow" href="https://www.npr.org/sections/planet-money/2024/06/04/g-s1-2226/india-election-democracy-china-economy-manufacturing">NPR's "Planet Money",</a> India is wading into a crowded space with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-trade-war-covid-companies-moving-supply-chains-2022-12">other emerging nations</a> such as Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Malaysia with their skin in the game.Rajan said India would do better to focus on the service industry, since the country already has a large English-speaking population.But Delhi is throwing big money to catch up with China, including over $20 billion worth of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.investindia.gov.in/production-linked-incentives-schemes-india">incentives and subsidies</a> to encourage output in 14 key sectors including electronics, automobiles, and EV batteries.It's also provided <a target="_blank" href="https://www.reuters.com/world/india/india-renews-process-10-bln-semiconductor-incentive-scheme-bloomberg-news-2023-05-10/">another $10 billion</a> for the semiconductor chip industry — a hot strategic sector that Taiwan has an <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/asml-tsmc-semiconductor-chip-equipment-kill-switch-china-invade-taiwan-2024-5">outsized presence in.</a>India has been trying to woo <a target="_blank" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-04-26/india-woos-intel-and-tsmc-to-set-up-local-semiconductor-plants">Taiwan's chip plants</a> to invest in the country and has had <a target="_blank" href="https://www.reuters.com/technology/india-approves-three-chipmaking-units-worth-152-bln-2024-02-29/">some success.</a><h2 id="421605ca-e5e5-4946-afcf-cf011993a870">India's rocky relationship with China</h2>Given India's ongoing rivalry with China and the Modi government's eagerness to attract Taiwan investments, the Delhi-Beijing relationship is also off to a rocky start as the Indian leader kicks off his new term.On Tuesday, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/modi-straight-from-reelection-anger-china-taiwan-india-2024-6">Modi angered China</a> — which claims Taiwan as its own territory — when he accepted Taiwanese President William Lai's congratulations following India's elections."China opposes all forms of official interactions between the Taiwan authorities and countries having diplomatic relations with China," Mao Ning, the spokesperson for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.fmprc.gov.cn/eng/xwfw_665399/s2510_665401/202406/t20240606_11405886.html">China's foreign ministry,</a> said at a scheduled press conference on Thursday.India's foreign policy toward China is unlikely to change following Modi's re-election, Ivan Lidarev, an Asian security scholar at King's College London, told <a target="_blank" href="https://www.channelnewsasia.com/watch/what-does-modis-weakened-mandate-mean-indias-rivalry-china-4391006">Channel NewsAsia.</a>"India has pursued a very active foreign policy of kind of getting closer with the West and counterbalancing China for many years," he told the network. "There is a very strong consensus within India about this."China, meanwhile, will try to limit India's influence on the global stage, he said."I think India has strived to position itself as a leader of the global south, and of course, China wants this position," added Lidarev. "So we think that this competition is going to increase and I think that Beijing will do a lot to limit any Indian attempts to be seen as the natural leader of the world."
