(DICV), which is the 100% Indian subsidiary of Daimler AG, world’s leading truck manufacturer from Germany, has announced today that it has started selling the <keyword id="3180528" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mercedes-Benz-coach">Mercedes-Benz coach</keyword>. 
 
The coach is named Super High Deck SHD 2436, and the first set of buses has been handed over to a customer in Chennai. The luxury coach is manufactured out of its plant in Oragadam, on the outskirts of Chennai, and offers a high seating capacity of upto 61 pushback seats. The coach has a luggage space of 14 cubic meters, and is built with a unique aluminique body, making it the lightest in its class offering ultra -fuel efficiency. 
 
Mr. Erich Nesselhauf, the MD and CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles and Mr. Markus Villinger, MD of Daimler Buses India handed over the keys to Mr. KPN Raajesh, owner of KPN Travels, one of the largest luxury coach operators in South India with a fleet size of over 330 intercity buses. 
 
 
 
“This product, being the longest coach in the country built with strong features, is sure to set benchmarks in ultra-luxury travel. We are excited to be offering a state-of-the–art vehicle concept to the Indian market. Inter-city travel becomes more safe, comfortable and modern,” Villinger stated. 
 
The luxury coach has an active steerable tag axle, resulting in low turning circle diameter so that sharp turns and bends can be navigated effortlessly. It also boasts of an advanced braking system and a strategically positioned fuel tank for added safety. 
 The bus plant at Oragadam was started with an investment of INR 425 crore and produces <keyword id="565514" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="BharatBenz">BharatBenz</keyword> and Mercedes-Benz buses. Within its premises, it also houses Wrightbus, the body manufacturer based in Ireland. The plant manufactures buses with gross vehicle weight range of 9, 16 and above 16 tons. The plant presently has a capacity of 1,500 units per year which can be scaled to 4,000 units per year. 
 BharatBenz has a network of over 80 dealerships, which has been ramped up to offer tailor-made service packages and 24X7 after-sales support for the new Mercedes-Benz coach. It is backed by <keyword id="3180523" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="bharatbenz-financial">BharatBenz Financial</keyword>, a captive financing unit offering full coverage vehicle insurance.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles starts the sale of luxurious Mercedes-Benz coach

Navi Mumbai, Jan 27 ( ) Commercial vehicles maker Daimler India on Monday showcased its new BSVI-compliant range of trucks and buses. 
 The new product portfolio is available for pre-bookings and will be introduced depending on the fuel availability in each region, the company said. 
 "BharatBenz's new commercial vehicle range offers customers the solution they need for the future, setting new benchmarks for medium and heavy duty trucks with improved fuel efficiency, safety and connectivity," Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Satyakam Arya said. 
 Going forward, BharatBenz will move away from tonnage and focus on customised solutions for different applications, he said. 
 Daimler India Commercial Vehicles is a 100 per cent subsidiary of the Daimler AG of Germany. 
 Its plant at Oragadam near Chennai manufactures trucks with a payload of 9-49 tonnes besides buses and coaches under the brand name BharatBenz trucks and Mercedes-Benz buses.

Daimler India showcases new BSVI-compliant range of trucks, buses

Mumbai, Jan 27 () Daimler India, which unveiled its all-new range of BSVI-compliant BharatBenz brand of trucks and buses on Monday, said it expects MHCV segment to clock 2.20 lakh units this year as against 2.49 lakh units in 2019.
 The company also said that though the January-March quarter of the 2020 is expected to do a little bit better for the segment, the market may be on a lower trajectory once the BSVI norms come into effect from April 1.
"The Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle market went down by 34 per cent to 2.49 lakh units in 2019 as compared to 2.78 lakh units in 2018. That is a massive drop. We are looking the market of the size of 2.20 lakh this year," Daimler India Commercial Vehicle Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Satyakam Arya, said at the event.
The 10 per cent expected contraction in volume will be on account of the BS-VI implementation. There is as much as 25 per cent excess capacity in the market as per the fleet owners and there will be some advanced buying in the January-March quarter, he added.
If all the measures which the government is taking and the budget is really friendly for boosting consumption, "We expect that the market will then return to recovery somewhere in the July or October quarter," he said.
 He, however, sounded confident that the full recovery will take place in 2021.
Arya said that BharatBenz has lines up 42 launches for the Indian and other markets as against 52 variants last year.
"Year-on-year, we look at which variant do we have, which don't make sense any longer and which ones we need to add. We slowly expanding our portfolio and we will continue to do," he added.
He said BharatBenz is hopeful that the finance minister will bring up a budget which is friendly for boosting consumption and investments.
"We have also seen a lot of emphasis on infrastructure, investments in infrastructure and we have already started to see that on ground. Of late, the fleet owners have come back to buy trucks. So, all in all looks positive," Arya said.
 The company plans to expand the dealership network to 300 this year from 237 at present, he said. 
 The new BS-VI compliant product portfolio is available for pre-bookings and will be introduced depending on the fuel availability in each region, the company said.
 "BharatBenz's new commercial vehicle range offers customers the solution they need for the future, setting new benchmarks for medium and heavy duty trucks with improved fuel efficiency, safety and connectivity," Arya said.
 Arya, however, did not disclose the prices of the new offerings and left it for the launch time, they are likely to be 10-15 per cent higher compared to existing range.
 Going forward, BharatBenz will move away from tonnage and focus on customised solutions for different applications, he said, adding its trucks are 10 per cent more fuel-efficient and offer up to 20 per cent longer service intervals, there by giving an up to six per cent cost advantage over other trucks.
 Besides, the new range of trucks will come with a standard warranty of up to 6-years and an extended warranty of eight years.

DaimlerDaimler's battery-powered Fuso eCanter truck can drive for 62 miles on a single charge.Just a month after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company was pursuing an electric truck in his "<a href="https://www.tesla.com/blog/master-plan-part-deux" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Master Plan, Part Deux</a>," Daimler revealed a stylish one of its own.During a German trade show for electric vehicles last September, a Daimler trucking unit showed off its eCanter: a light-duty, electric truck that has since undergone over 60,000 kilometers (roughly 37,000 miles) of testing on public streets in Germany and Portugal.Daimler is launching a limited series production run of the eCanter later this year in Tokyo, Lisbon, and New York. The ultimate goal is to begin mass production in 2019, around the same time Tesla plans to reveal its semi-truck."In trucks, of course [Elon Musk's] stepping into it, but we don't see him as someone who is threatening us because you need a whole infrastructure," Marc Llistosella, Head of Daimler Trucks Asia, told Business Insider. "You need dealerships, you need infrastructure, you need maintenance.""It's not so easy like a consumer good, it's an industrial good, so it will be very difficult for him," he continued.<h2>'The game is just starting'</h2>DaimlerAn inside shot of the Urban eTruck, an electric truck being developed by Mercedes-Benz Trucks.The move is a natural progression for a company that has sought to diversify its portfolio with investments in trucking since the early 2000s. Daimler's truck unit now oversees four different brands: Mercedes-Benz Trucks, Freightliner Trucks, Mitsubishi FUSO, Western Star, and BharatBenz.Freightliner Trucks, Daimler's heavy duty trucking division, has secured 40% market share in the US. Mitsubishi FUSO, which has <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-04-11/daimler-reports-surge-in-first-quarter-profit-on-mercedes-sales" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">struggled with declining demand</a>, sells light-, medium-, and heavy- duty trucks to 172 markets."In class 8, with freightliner, we are the number one in America, so we have something to defend," Llistosella said. "In the smaller ones, the game is just starting."The eCanter is being developed by FUSO, which Daimler acquired a majority stake of in 2004. Llistosella is also the president and CEO of Mistubishi FUSO.Llistosella said FUSO will lease a total of 150 trucks to municipalities and private companies this year. Convenience chain 7-eleven bought 25 trucks in Tokyo, but Llistosella declined to name other buyers. Daimler will begin full-scale series production in 2019.The eCanter has an expected range of over 100 kilometers (62 miles) and can carry between two to three tons (4,000-6,000 pounds). It can charge in under an hour with a DC fast charger.Daimler's ultimate goal is to launch an entire line of electric trucks, including a heavy-duty truck, as battery tech improves over time.The truck industry is ripe for massive disruption in the next decade as companies look to electrify and automate trucks.Within Daimler, Mercedes-Benz Trucks is currently testing its battery-powered <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/mercedes-electric-truck-photos-2017-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Urban eTruck</a> in Germany and plans to bring it to market in 2020. Mercedes' parent company is building a truck that will rival Tesla - and an exec says Elon Musk isn't a threat

India's largest automobile company by sales, <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> will see its first high-profile exit this year as <keyword id="1387239" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vinod-Sahay">Vinod Sahay</keyword>, head of sales and marketing for intermediate and medium and heavy commercial vehicles division, has resigned. He will join <keyword id="6357096" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahindra-Mahindra">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</keyword>'s two-wheelers division in July as <keyword id="136383" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Chief-Operating-Officer">chief operating officer</keyword>, according to an Economic Times report. 

	A Tata Motors spokeswoman has confirmed the resignation and said he would be replaced by Rajesh Kaul, business head of CVLCV &amp; SCV Cargo. 
 

	Sahay is currently serving his notice period and the last working day for him at Tata Motors will be June 30. He is set to take up a senior position at Mahindra &amp; Mahindra's two-wheelers division, people familiar with the development told the financial daily. 
 

	Moreover, a Mahindra &amp; Mahindra spokesman said Sahay will join its two-wheelers as chief operating officer in July and will be responsible for sales, marketing, product planning, exports, manufacturing and quality. 
 

	According to industry experts, his exit will leave a big void for Tata Motors to fill as Sahay, apart from heading the bigger truck division, was also leading several other strategic initiatives of the commercial vehicles business unit, such as key account management, analytics project, scenario planning, sectorial as well as telematics and loyalty programmes. 
 His exit happens at a critical time for Tata Motors as the company faces intense competition from the world's top two truck makers, <keyword id="86015" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Daimler">Daimler</keyword> through its Indian subsidiary <keyword id="1489658" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bharat-Benz">Bharat-Benz</keyword> and <keyword id="6359474" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Volvo">Volvo</keyword> through its joint venture in India with Eicher, as well as the Hinduja group's <keyword id="6357085" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ashok-Leyland">Ashok Leyland</keyword>. Tata Motors has already seen its overall <keyword id="34527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="market-share">market share</keyword> fall by 10% in the last few years. However, the company has creditably held on to its high share of 55% in the medium and heavy commercial vehicles space in the past one year. 

	Sahay successfully led the creation and execution of Tata Motors' turnaround strategy for the light commercial vehicles business in 2003-2005. He is also being credited for insulating the largest region of North from the shock during the recession years of 2008-09. 
 

	An alumnus of Symbiosis Institute, Sahay has more than 15 years of experience in the automobile industry in areas of strategy, business management, sales and marketing, product management, and channel management.

Tata Motors’ strategist Vinod Sahay gets poached by Mahindra & Mahindra

If you are planning to junk your old car, there is a possibility that the government will offer discount up to 15% on new vehicles. 
 
The road transport and highways ministry has prepared a policy under which anyone voluntary scrapping their four-wheelers older than 12 years (pre-Bharat stage II vehicle) will get up to 15% discount (including manufacturer discount and rebate on excise duty) on new vehicles. 
 
This proposal comes amid automakers are hiking car prices after <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=arun+jaitley">Finance Minister Arun Jaitley</a> announced a ‘green tax’ in his <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=budget+2016">Budget 2016-17</a>. 
Under the proposed policy, commercial and passenger vehicles will be covered and while junking, a certificate will be issued. 
 
Reportedly, there are more than 40 lakh Pre BS-II four-wheeler vehicles in both commercial and passenger segment in India. 
 
This is a plan under modernisation of fleet as Pre-BS II vehicles are almost 10 times more polluting than BS V vehicles. 
 Meanwhile, <keyword id="44883" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki">Maruti Suzuki</keyword> India, Mercedes Benz, Honda Cars India, <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> Motors and <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> are hiking their car prices due to green tax.

However, smart hybrid models are exempted from the tax net. 
 
Honda Cars India also plans to raise prices in a range of Rs 4,000 to Rs 80,000. 
 
The infrastructure cess of 1-4 per cent proposed in the Budget will make cars pricier by Rs 2,000-80,000 for the mainstream models and up to Rs 4-5 lakh for luxury vehicles. 
 
Hyundai Motor is also raising prices from Rs 3000 on small car Eon to Rs 80000 on SUV Santa Fe. 
 
The government is going to impose 2.5 percent cess on diesel vehicles of length not exceeding 4 metre and engine capacity not exceeding 1,500 cc, while a cess of 4 per cent was imposed on higher engine capacity SUVs and bigger sedans.

 Between July and September 2019, Tata Motors reported a net loss of ₹216.5 crore but that was still a massive improvement from the same quarter in the previous year⁠— when the loss was nearly five times more. For the quarter ending in September, Jaguar Land Rover retail sales nearly the same (down 0.7%) as a year earlier⁠— but the losses were less because the company had cut costs. Jaguar Land Rover saw a 24.3% jump in its sales in China, which is a big market for the company. “JLR’s volume is showing signs of bottoming-out on a low base in China and the ramp-up of the recently upgraded Evoque model—the start of defender sales in 4QFY20 should provide a further boost,” the CLSA report said. Earlier this year, global rating agencies Fitch Ratings and Moody’s both had downgraded Tata Motors with a negative outlook. In June 2019, Jaguar Land Rover retail sales was down by 9.6% as compared to the same month the previous year. In May 2019 too, the company had seen a 12% decrease as compared to the same month in the previous year. “Against challenging market headwinds, for the third consecutive month we have achieved double-digit growth in China, benefitting from our local turnaround plan and performing ahead of the broader market. We have also outperformed shrinking markets in other regions,” said Felix Brautigam, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Commercial Officer in a statement. JLR cheer is spreading The market excitement is visible not just with Tata Motors’ share price but that of many ancillary companies in the business. For the <keyword id="34478" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-industry">auto industry</keyword> which has been hit by a slowdown for a year now, the comeback of Tata Motors and JLR is a positive sign for many others. Stocks like Bharat Forge, Motherson Sumi, and Exide, which make parts for automobiles, are also celebrating what they believe is a light at the end of the tunnel. Motherson Sumi, the largest manufacturer of automotive wiring harnesses and mirrors for passenger cars, too saw its stock trading at a 10% jump on Tuesday afternoon.

New entrants like MG Hector delivered 700 cars on Dhanteras while luxury car Mercedes Benz delivered 600 cars on the festive day. “Passenger vehicle sales, which were in the doldrums since late last year, have shown positive sales trajectory this year in comparison to the off-take witnessed during Dhanteras 2018”, reported IANS. "In terms of passenger vehicle sales, we have witnessed a similar off-take pattern to last year's Dhanteras day," Vinkesh Gulati, Vice President of the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) told IANS.
